2. Aerodynamics
Fields of
Study
Aerodynamics is a sub-field of fluid dynamics and is often used synonymously
with gas dynamics, with the difference being that "gas dynamics" applies to
the study of the motion of all gases, not limited to air.
3. Aeronautics
Fields of
Study
Aeronautics is the science or art involved with the study, design, and
manufacturing of airflight-capable machines, and the techniques of
operating aircraft and rockets within the atmosphere.
5. Anatomy
Fields of
Study
Anatomy is the branch of biology concerned with the study of the
structure of organisms and their parts. Human Anatomy is one of the basic
essential sciences of medicine.
6. Anthropology
Fields of
Study
Anthropology is the study of humans, past and present. Anthropology draws and
builds upon knowledge from the social and biological sciences as well as
the humanities and physical sciences.
7. Apiology
Fields of
Study
Apiology is the scientific study of honey bees. Honey bees are often chosen
as a study group to answer questions on the evolution of social systems.
8. Archaeology
Fields of
Study
Archaeology is the study of human activity in the past, primarily through the
recovery and analysis of the material culture and environmental data that
has been left behind by past human populations, which includes artifacts, architecture,
biofacts and cultural landscapes.
9. Astrogeology
Fields of
Study
Planetary geology or Astrogeology is a planetary science discipline concerned
with the geology of the celestial bodies such as the planets and their
moons, asteroids, comets, and meteorites.
10. Astrology
Fields of
Study
Astrology is the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial bodies
interpreted as having an influence on human affairs and the natural world.
11. Astrophysics
Fields of
Study
Astrophysics is the branch of astronomy that deals with the physics of the
universe, especially with the nature of the heavenly bodies, rather than
their positions or motions in space.
12. Bacteriology
Fields of
Study
Bacteriology is the study of bacteria. This subdivision of microbiology involves
the identification, classification, and characterization of bacterial species.
15. Cryptology
Fields of
Study
Cryptology is the practice and study of techniques for secure communications in the
presence of third parties. Various aspects in information security such as
data confidentiality, data integrity, authentication, and non-repudiation are central to
modern cryptography.
17. Ecology
Fields of
Study
Ecology is the scientific analysis and study of interactions among organisms and their
environment, such as the interactions organisms have with each other and with their
abiotic environment.
19. Epidemiology
Fields of
Study
Epidemiology is the science that studies the patterns, causes, and effects of health and
disease conditions in defined populations. It is the cornerstone of public health, and
informs policy decisions and evidence-based practice by identifying risk factors for disease
and targets for preventive healthcare.
21. Ethnology
Fields of
Study
Ethnology is the branch of anthropology that compares and analyzes the
characteristics of different peoples and the relationship between them.
23. Felinology
Fields of
Study
Felinology is the study of cats. Felinology is concerned with studying
the anatomy, genetics, physiology, and breeding of domestic and wild cats.
24. Gemology
Fields of
Study
Gemology is the science dealing with natural and artificial gems and gemstones. It is
considered a geoscience and a branch of mineralogy. Some jewelers are academically
trained gemologists and are qualified to identify and evaluate gems.
25. Geology
Fields of
Study
Geology is the science devoted to the study of the Earth, particularly the
solid Earth and the rocks that compose it.
26. Geomorphology
Fields of
Study
Geomorphology is the scientific study of the origin and evolution of topographic
and bathymetric features created by physical or chemical processes operating
at or near the earth's surface.
27. Glaciology
Fields of
Study
Glaciology is the study of ice in the environment. Important components are
seasonal snow, sea ice, glaciers, ice sheets and frozen ground. The extent of
these types of ice reflects the present and past climate.
30. Horology
Fields of
Study
Horology is the art or science of measuring time. In current usage, horology refers
mainly to the study of mechanical time-keeping devices, while chronometry more
broadly includes electronic devices that have largely supplanted mechanical clocks
for the best accuracy and precision in time-keeping.
31. Hydrology
Fields of
Study
Hydrology is the scientific study of the movement, distribution, and quality of
water on Earth, including the hydrologic cycle, water
resources and environmental watershed sustainability.
