2. What’s new? Text-based communication in a chatroom
• The second set of rounds is identical to the previous rounds except
for ONE change.
• Now, every User can communicate with other Users using a chat
window.
• In addition, one of the Users (User 1) and the Provider can talk to
each other using the chat window.
• But the remaining two Users (Users 2 and 3) cannot talk to the
Provider.
• You can send text messages about any aspect of the exercise at the
beginning of each round. However, there are two restrictions:
1) You are NOT allowed to promise the other players side-
payments or threaten them with any consequence after the
experiment is finished.
2) You are NOT allowed to reveal your real identity.
• Note that chat conversation does NOT affect neither the Users’
nor the Provider's earnings.
3. Next, you and 3 other players will play the second set of rounds.
Editor's Notes
The second set of rounds is identical to the previous rounds except one change – there is a third option for Users.
That is, just like before, Users pay their 10 tokens and then take water from the public irrigation infrastructure to grow crop. This is the first option.
The second option is that Users hold payment and just keep their 10 tokens.
The THIRD option is that each User does not pay to the provider and instead, invests to an alternative water source that is privately owned. Users then take water from this private ALT to grow crop.
It is important to note that because an ALT is privately owned, it is not affected by the decisions of other players.
