2. What’s New? (1) Group chat and (2) Observe others’ decisions & earnings
• The second set of rounds is identical to the previous rounds except
for two changes.
• First, Users and the Provider can chat/communicate with each
other about any aspect of the exercise for some time at the
beginning of each round.
• Each user can communicate with the Provider
• The Provider can also communicate with the three Users.
• However, a User cannot communicate with other Users.
Note that chat conversation does NOT affect neither the Users’ nor the
Provider's earnings.
• Second, a User can now observe the Provider’s decisions and
earnings. The Provider can also observe the decisions and earnings
of each User.
• However, a User still cannot observe other Users’ decisions and
earnings.
Prohibited during group chat: You are NOT allowed
to promise the other players side-payments or
threaten them with any consequence after the
experiment is finished. You are also NOT allowed to
reveal your real identity.
3. Next, you and 3 other players will play the second set of rounds.
Editor's Notes
The second set of rounds is identical to the previous rounds except one change – there is a third option for Users.
That is, just like before, Users pay their 10 tokens and then take water from the public irrigation infrastructure to grow crop. This is the first option.
The second option is that Users hold payment and just keep their 10 tokens.
The THIRD option is that each User does not pay to the provider and instead, invests to an alternative water source that is privately owned. Users then take water from this private ALT to grow crop.
It is important to note that because an ALT is privately owned, it is not affected by the decisions of other players.
