The second set of rounds allows for text-based communication in a chatroom between three farmers and the provider. Participants can send messages for 60 seconds at the beginning of each round to discuss any aspect of the exercise except promising side payments or revealing identities. As in the previous rounds, farmers can choose to hold or pay and the provider can choose to keep or invest, with earnings determined solely by these choices.
2. What’s new. Text-based communication in a chatroom
• The second set of rounds is identical to the previous rounds except one
change – there is a text-based chatroom.
Two options are still available to Farmers: HOLD and PAY
Two options are still available to the Provider: KEEP and INVEST
The ways of calculating earnings are the same as in the previous rounds.
• However, three Farmers and the Provider are allowed to communicate with
each other in a text-based chatroom.
When and how long? 60 seconds at the BEGINNING of each round
How? You can send text messages to the other participants
What can be discussed? Any aspect of the exercise with two important
exceptions:
1) You are NOT allowed to promise the other participants side-
payments or threaten them with any consequence after the
experiment is finished.
2) You are NOT allowed to reveal your real identity.
• Note
Group chat does NOT affect both the Farmers' and the Provider's
earnings. Your earnings are determined ONLY by what three Farmers and
the Provider choose among their available options.

3. Next, you will take a short quiz about the decision exercise.
After that, you and 3 other players will play the 2nd set of rounds of this decision exercise.
Editor's Notes
The second set of rounds is identical to the previous rounds except one change – there is a third option for farmers.
That is, just like before, farmers pay their 10 tokens and then take water from the public irrigation infrastructure to grow crop. This is the first option.
The second option is that farmers hold payment and just keep their 10 tokens.
The THIRD option is that each farmer does not pay to the provider and instead, invests to an alternative water source that is privately owned. Farmers then take water from this private ALT to grow crop.
It is important to note that because an ALT is privately owned, it is not affected by the decisions of other players.
