Young Frankenstein Play Analysis
Young Frankenstein was a musical that the UA Theatre & Dance put on November 17–20 and 22,
2015. The play focuses on the grandson of Victor Frankenstein, Frederick, after he inherits his
grandfather's large estate in Transylvania due to his grandfather's death. Once arriving in
Transylvania, Frederick gains his side–kick Igor and his assistant Inga. Frederick travels to his
grandfather's estate with the intent to close the place down and head back to New York so he can
return to his fiance and continue teaching. However he suddenly finds himself following in the
footsteps of his crazy grandfather to bring someone back to life. This musical continues to follow

And 2.) that I thought was going to see the traditional story line of Frankenstein. My perceived
stereotypes before seeing the play were based on ones that I had from reading the novel
Frankenstein last year. I was stereotyping the setting of Transylvania, the townspeople, and that
Doctor Frankenstein would be a little psychotic. My expectations to see the traditional story was far
from accurate, infact I was almost completely wrong. This play did not follow the life of Victor
Frankenstein, rather it was the story of his grandson hence the title Young Frankenstein. Also, I
learned about the young doctor from a big city who did not want to be affiliated with his families
name; however, after visiting his grandfather's estate in Transylvania and seeing how truly genius he
was, things changed. The musical depicts cultures of a big city (New York) and a small town
(Transylvania). The audience can see clearly how different these two cities are just by the
surrounding characters in these scenes. Many of my views were changed throughout this play. The
comedy through the actors influenced my attitude towards the townspeople of Transylvania. It also
made me see how in different places people do things in various ways and can be at different

Traditions and Customs in Romania
Romania is situated in the southeast of Europe, to the north of the Balkan Mountains. It has a
population of about 23 million inhabitants. Most of its people are of Roman origin–in fact,
"Romania" means "land of the Romans". But there are also Hungarians, Germans, Serbs, Tartars,
and Russians who make up the rest of the population. The official language is Romanian, the only
language of Latin origin in Eastern Europe. Brought up to respect religious traditions, the majority
of Romanians is Orthodox (nearly 87 percent). Protestants are the next largest denomination at 6.8
percent with Catholics making up 5.6 percent of the population. A small number of Muslims also
live in Romania. Romanian Orthodox Church, in common with all Eastern ... Show more content on

The white blouse is also a basic item in male costume, tightened at the waist with a woolen sash or
leather belt. This is usually worn with narrow, white trousers. A typical piece of headgear for men is
the hat made of lambskin, black felt, or straw–depending on the time of year and the local tradition.
Romania preserved a significant number of traditional customs and celebrations manifest within the
strong community of the village. Ceremonies dedicated to the significant moments of one's life
(birth, wedding, death), to natural cycles (such as solstice, equinox, harvest, springtime) or to the big
religious celebrations, follow the same archaic mythical rituals they did a thousand years ago. Even
though preformed in 21st century in villages marked by modernization, such traditional rites haven't
diminish their prestige. They still provide viable answers to how to live in harmony with the
environment and community, that the present social and economical system cannot furnish.
During winter solstice, when the sun is weak and frost and dryness take over, Romanian peasants
conceived ceremonies to help the Sun and Nature to overcome this "temporary crisis." For 12 days
between Christmas and St. John on January 7th, all Romanian villages have specific celebrations,
starting with children's caroling on Christmas eve: "Mos Ajun" or "Buna Dimineata" (Good
Morning).

centrally located in Europe and has a population of over 20 million. There is much more to Romania
than the mysterious Transylvania. This country is rich in food, culture, and history.
Romania is located in eastern central Europe. Romania's neighboring countries are Ukraine,
Hungary, and Serbia. Romania also borders the Black Sea. The land is beautifully sculpted by
mountains, hills, plateaus, and plains. The Carpathians Mountains spread from north to southeast
Romania. The mountain covers one–third of the country's land. Transylvania is located in the eastern

The Victorian Era Exposed In Dracula By Bram Stoker
The Victorian Era is regarded as very impactful time in terms of literature. It incorporated the
elements of Gothic principles such as isolation, fascination of the past, and decay. All of the listed
characteristics appear in the infamous novel Dracula and play a significant role in how the book is
transcribed. But perhaps the most significant attribute would be the concept of othering or
foreigners. In Bram Stoker's Dracula, Stoker provides a thorough perspective in to the British fear of
the other. He utilizes the main character, Dracula, to convey how society portrays foreigners or
immigrants as aggressors. Dracula highlights the British fear of the other and all that is foreign. He
comes from somewhere other than England, Transylvania, to symbolize his exclusion from society
and to represent his status as an immigrant. Dracula also does not have anything in common with the
Transylvanian citizens. "They also express a great deal of superstition about Dracula when Jonathan
Harker arrives. When I asked him if he knew Count Dracula, and could tell me anything of his castle,
both he and his wife crossed themselves, and, saying that they knew nothing at all, simply refused to
speak further" (Stoker 7). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Transylvania was mainly inhabited by people who believed in fallacy and illusion. In comparison,
England had a rational way of thinking and often denounced anything that was considered
supernatural. This directly correlates with Dr. Seward's frustration with Van Helsing. Dr. Seward
refuses to believe that Lucy is undead and assumes that Van Helsing is crazy. "Good God,
Professor!' I said, starting up. 'Do you mean to tell me that Lucy was bitten by such a bat, and that
such a thing is here in London in the nineteenth century?" (Stoker

The Vampire Is A Dark And Ominous Creature Of The Woods Of...
When thinking of the word "vampire" most people would think that "the vampire is a dark and
ominous creature of the woods of Hungary or Transylvania" (Wilson 577). They would possibly say
that the vampires in the stories that they heard of or imagined may live in caves or castles. The
vampires may turn into bats and that they drain humans of their blood. Vampires have to invited into
a home by an owner and they cannot go anywhere near garlic. If you try to take a picture of them
they will not show up on the film. They might believe that vampires are completely uncivilized and
animalistic. In many stories and films this was the story that was told of vampires and now it is
known as "stereotypical vampires". Today, to keep the vampire genre fresh and new, authors and
screenwriters turned the genre around and created new histories and descriptions of vampires. Some
vampires are now known as attractive to lure in their victims, the term "vegetarian vampire" was
introduced in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight for vampires that do not drink human blood. So many
other things have changed in the "new vampire genre".
The incredibly vivid and colorful world of Vampire Academy novels differs in some ways from the
very basic stories and descriptions of vampires that everyone knows. Vampire Academy emerged in
the midst of the young adult vampire phenomenon that began several years ago. However, it
distanced itself from the others, like Twilight, with very different themes and elements. While

The Role Of Johnathon In Bram Stoker's Dracula
Dracula is a horror novel is set in London and Transylvania in the mid 1800's. The book starts with
Johnathon Harker heading to Transylvania on a business trip to sell Dracula, a wealthy count in
Transylvania, some real estate in London. After some strange incidents of Count Dracula attempting
to suck Johnathon's blood, and imprison him, Johnathon escapes. The novel then switches to Mina
Murray, Johnathon's fiancé's, and her friend, Lucy Westenra's, points of view through their letters.
Its mostly just gossip, but there are several references to Johnathon. Next, it shifts to Dr. John
Seward, sometimes referred to as Jack's, dairy with a description of Renfield who is a patient at
Jack's asylum. After this, it alternates points of view, with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She is throughout the book described as both intelligent and compassionate. In many ways
Johnathon becomes Mina's foil because after he comes back Johnathon is paranoid and
superstitious, whereas Mina is level headed and calm. Mina also becomes Dracula's victim and is
hence left in the dark about how close the group is to catching Dracula, because Dracula can read
her mind.
Dr. John Seward, sometimes called Jack by his friends, is a doctor who runs a lunatic asylum. He is
a scientific person, so he does not believe in vampires at first. He is largely motivated by his love of
Lucy, Dracula's first Victim, who is already engaged to someone else. Seward struggles with
believing in van Helsing's stories of vampires, until he come face to face with the undead Lucy.
Afterwards, Jack is seeking revenge whilst trying to find Renfield, a patient in his asylum's
connection to Dracula.
Dr. van Helsing is a medical doctor and the group's expert on vampires, he has multiple contacts that
he makes use of throughout the book. He knows many superstitions and the occult. He is a major
member of the group, yet not much is known about his personal life, he has multiple different
doctorates, seems to have some previous connection to Jack, and may love Mina. This general
mysteriousness about him is amplified by the fact that the book is almost never told from his

At Transylvania University, One Area That Is Frequented
At Transylvania University, one area that is frequented by students is the common space on the

students' rooms branching off on either side. A window on the other side overlooks "back circle," as
it is called by the students, a greenspace area in the middle of this residential area. In the warmer

Clearly, many students have taken the mix of furniture to be a benefit, instead of the contradiction
that it seems to imply. The common area is also quite large and students use all the space available
to them by spreading out far from each other. When first entering the area, most students would
never think to sit immediately next to someone or even at the table over. Even I do this myself when
entering, never considering sitting close to someone already there. For example, on one day while I
was studying there, there were also three other students were using this space to study and we were
all separated into four different corners. However, there is some socialization that does take place
there. The most common social interactions that I have witnessed are between students passing
through and stopping to talk with those studying in the common area. One of the main facets of the
common area is its open design, leading directly to hallways of students' rooms on the side and the
elevator. As a result, the traffic of students is a frequent experience of being in this space. Usually,
these spontaneous conversations are kept limited to small talk as both people are working on
separate activities. These social interactions are also short because it is primarily a place for
studying, so people do not want to be disruptive. Although this is not a formal rule, it is implied
because of the activities taking place there. The students

Romanians will go to the utmost extreme of providing extravagant food, entertainment, and
ceremonies. Before the wedding, the groom will visit the house of the bride to bring her to the place
where the wedding will be held. All of the many people involved in the wedding then proceed in
their cars to the wedding. Typically, they will drive leisurely and will honk at pedestrians to cheer
for the couple. Once the procession reaches the place of the wedding, which will usually be an
Orthodox church, the priest will lead the people into the main auditorium for the ceremony. The
ceremony itself, which is comprised of the priest blessing the couple, reading from the Bible, and
singing, could take up to three hours. After the ceremony, the couple drinks from the same glass of
wine and eat the same piece of bread to symbolize unity. After the couple is unified, they proceed to
visit the numerous pictures of Jesus and the saints and kiss them. Once the entire ceremony is over,
the bride and groom normally take their guests to a restaurant of some sort to have refreshments and
entertainment. Some weddings go as far as buying fireworks and lighting them after midnight
symbolizing the first day of being married. This time of refreshing and entertainment could last

Haunted
"The castle is on the very edge of a terrible precipice. A stone falling from the window would fall a
thousand feet without touching anything! As far as the eye can reach is a sea of green tree tops, with
occasionally a deep rift where there is a chasm. Here and there are silver threads where the rivers
wind in deep gorges through the forests.
But I am not in heart to describe beauty, for when I had seen the view I explored further; doors,
doors, doors everywhere, and all locked and bolted. In no place save from the windows in the castle
walls is there an available exit.
The castle is a veritable prison, and I am a prisoner!"
Stoker's use of visual imagery demonstrates how Stoker's style differs from others. Painting a
beautiful picture of the skyline of the magnificent castle, with trees towering the earth, with breaks
of rivers that "wind in deep gorges through the forest.", the reader gets an image of peace and
nature. Then immediatly after, we see a complete 180 from what the beautiful picture of the castle
and landscape to a place of depression and internal conflict, Harker feels trapped and no longer feels
like a guest in Dracula's castle. Stoker's use of imagery and shift in tone, from beauty and peace to
imprisonment and fear shows his style, a form of uneasy peace and beauty in this quote.

Analysis of Bram Stoker's 'Dracula'
DRACULA BY BRAM STOKER The epistolary form of the novel consists of a narrative based on
letters, diary entries, newspaper clippings and other documentary records. It helps to bring realism
into the narrative by lacing it with personal and historical references. It helps to add believability by
incorporating a variety of perspectives on the events and characters in the novel. This form works
for Dracula because the log of the ship captain and the diary entries of Jonathan Harker provide
personal witness accounts to prove that the events are real as opposed to imaginary. Daddy–Long–
Legs by Jean Webster are a novel composed nearly entirely of letters by the orphan Jerusha Abbott
to her benefactor John Smith. The form helps to record the growth of the character over the years.
The novel is set during the Victorian era and explores the social norms, beliefs and values of popular
Victorian society. The setting alternates between the east European Transylvania which represents
the world as it was before the scientific and Industrial Revolution, and Victorian London where the
effects of science and technological progress are evident in the social and intellectual zeitgeist of the
period. Count Dracula lives in a Gothic period castle in Transylvania. He is an aristocratic nobleman
who possesses gentlemanly manners but uses it to conceal his evil intentions of regaining feudal
power over people. Jonathan Harker is a young and intelligent lawyer from London who visits

This is a very common theme in the works of Gothic authors.
Throughout this novel there are many different gothic elements that are very common in about all of
the gothic works of literature which include the mentioning of "moonlight", and having a small
source of light such as a lamp or a candle. These features show the evidence of the gothic elements
which help to interlink with the gothic genre because it crosses boundaries, it is the usual symbolism
of representing light versus the dark side. The dark and ominous light creates a very creepy setting
that is a trademark of Gothic Works.
Finally a sense of death and destruction and lifelessness also adds to the gothic elements where in
this context, when we read the book states, "hinges had fallen somewhat". This indicating that the
place is old, rustic, run down, and out of the time period in which that main character lives in. This
creates an atmosphere of old age and history which gives the setting a significance to both time and
the gothic elements and mystery which gives the impressions of the unknown environment. So
throughout the novel with the use of language techniques it is seen that the literature is in fact of
gothic genre and the feelings and emotions felt in this novel through the use of gothic literature
helped to create the effects throughout the

Advisor For Earl Grey 's The Fight For Transylvania 's 7th...
Hunter Garrison GVPT473: 0102 12/18/15 Final Paper: Advisor for Earl Grey In the fight for
Transylvania's 7th District, two candidates have a tough campaign to lead, however Republican Earl
Grey has a slight upper hand in a couple different ways. He already has the quest of bringing jobs to
his district, while Democrat Jack Wolfman seems unclear about his definitive goals. Grey also has
recorded evidence to him going in a different direction than the Tea Party, which can help him claim
the moderate votes. Additionally, being the incumbent has tremendous perks through the resources
available to Grey throughout the course of his term. Some preliminary disadvantages he has is that
he is not connected well with his district and Wolfman has significant influence over some of the
Republican base through his work with the veterans. The failing automotive industry would appeal
well to Grey's campaign assuming that he plays his cards right. There are some advantages Wolfman
seems to have over Grey. First, because the district having some urban areas with large minority
populations, Wolfman will probably have aligned ideology with these areas because of how
Democrats tend to perform in urban cultures. Second, Wolfman's historic alliance with the labor
unions will help him with the working middle class. Third, the state as a whole seems to be moving
towards a stronger Democratic voter base. These are not all the advantages each candidate have over
the others, however they will play a

The Influence and Meaning of Gothic Literature
The Influence and Meaning of Gothic Literature Gothic is termed in the dictionary with crude and
barbaric, this definition coincides with gothic literature. Gothic literature was said to be born in
1764 when Horace Walpole published The Castle of Otranto, which is considered to be the first
gothic novel ever written. Gothic literature explores the aggression between what we fear and what
we lust. The setting of these gothic stories were usually in some kind of castle or old building that
showed human decay and created an atmosphere of mystery and suspense. The words chosen in
these novels and short stories were very descriptive they tended to "blend the idea of the exotic and
the familiar" (The Balkans, 75).Supernatural and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Dracula, Jonathan Harker notes with a similar attitude "I read that every known superstition in the
world is gathered into the horseshoe of the Carpathians, as if it were the centre of some sort of
imaginative whirlpool." These quotations both bring about the fear of the unknown and the idea of
the fear of the other, creating an ideal setting for a gothic novel. Gerard's article also provided Stoker
with some of the folklore surrounding Dracula and his castle: St. George's Day, "the eve of which is
still frequently kept by occult meetings taking place at night in lonely caverns or within ruined
walls"; hidden treasures and "the light they give forth, described as a bluish flame"; and the wolf
that "continues to haunt the Transylvanian forests" (Transylvanian superstitions). Gerard was not the
only influence on Stoker choosing Transylvania as his setting some other influences were a
collection of tales by Alexandre Dumas (père), Les Mille et un Fantomes (1849), includes a story
about a vampire who haunts the Carpathians; in "The Mysterious Stranger" (anonymous, 1860), a
vampire Count terrorizes a family in this area. Best–known may be Jules Verne's romantic
adventure, The Castle of the Carpathians (1892), in which the narrator cites the prevalence of beliefs
in a host of supernatural creatures, including vampires that quench their thirst on human blood.

Money – The True Force Behind Dracula
In Dracula (1897), Bram Stoker explores the "wonderful power of money" (Stoker 341). Through
the actions of Van Helsing and the "Army of Light" Stoker ponders "What can it not do when it is
properly applied; and what it might do when basely used!" (341) through Dracula's machinations.
Though one does not usually associate a vampire with a bank statement, Dracula utilizes the power
of money as well as his abilities to turn into dust and bats. By granting Dracula the same influence
of the "blessed buck" that the Army of Light uses to acquire information, Stoker augments the
Count's threat to British society and allows him to function as not only a creature of the night but as

In his search for Dracula's boxes, Harker bribes nearly everyone he encounters; "A half–crown tip
put the deputy's knowledge at my disposal" (252) and another man provides information because
Harker treats him "wery 'an'some" (251) and gives him half a sovereign. Harker's behaviour during
this pursuit of Dracula differs greatly from the beginning of the novel when he travels to
Transylvania. While journeying to Dracula's castle, Harker does not bribe the local "peasants" for
information about the Count, even when they begin acting suspiciously whenever Harker mentions
to where he travels. He only receives his money in the middle of the book, so perhaps Harker does
not feel as though he may control the lower–class people as he does later in the novel.
Dracula, however, does wield this kind of power in Transylvania. When Harker arrives at his hotel
in Bistritz he discovers that Dracula has all ready paid for his room. Even though the owners of the
hotel know the stories of Count Dracula and believe them, the old couple still cooperates with his
plans because he pays them enough. Dracula also has a "...great heap of gold in one corner – gold of

When you think about Romania, the first thing that probably comes to your mind is the tale of
Dracula. Fictional character who sprang through the homonymous novel by Irish author Bram

Since I was in Bucharest, I decided to visit Transylvania and see the homeland of "Dracula"

castles, historic medieval cities and little cute villages.

Or else Dracula's Castle!! We were so excited, the half hour drive from Peles to Bran felt like
hours!!
Much more simple and rugged, our very well informed tour guide told us that this rangy castle was
built in the 13th century by the Teutonic Order especially for battles as it is located on the border of
Wallachia with Transylvania and was suffering from attacks all the time. Its narrow corridors, the
low tunnel staircases and its complex construction like a labyrinth, allowed Romanians to fight the
enemy with ease.
In the following years, the castle was used as customs office as it is conveniently located on the Silk
Road until it was taken by royal family in 1920. It initially became the residence of Queen Mary and
after her death it was given to her daughter, Princess Iliana. It functioned as a hospital during World
War II and then came into the possession of the communist regime with the eviction of the royal
family in 1948.
Although the locals insist that there is no connection of Bram Stoker's novel with the castle or with
the figure of Vlad III the Impaler, ruler of Wallachia, a whole floor is devoted to recounting the
legend, showing the movies filmed based in this myth and an extended homage to

The Story Of Bram Stoker
The story of Dracula consists of many genres that it can be classified as, some of them being
adventure, fantasy, horror and gothic fiction. The writing style of Bram Stoker is unique and he uses
any word to his advantage, describing the novel and painting a picture for the reader. The graphic
description helps readers to imagine the place and make it seem as if they were there in person. The
time–period of which this story was written and based upon, was in the mid–Victorian era (1850–
1870). In the novel, the setting changes a lot over the course of the story, but it is predominantly set
in Transylvania, which is now inside the country of Romania.

Why were the Habsburgs unable to consolidate their power...
The seventeenth century was undeniably a period of great division, war and turmoil for Hungary.
After the events of the previous century, Hungary remained divided into three distinct areas. The
largest was Ottoman Hungary, under the direct control of Constantinople, which encompassed the
south and south–east of Hungary. Second, there was the Eastern Hungarian Kingdom founded by
János Zápolyai in 1526, who after the defeat of the Hungarian forces at the First Battle of Mohács
sought the support of Sultan Suleiman I to be crowned King of Hungary by a rival faction of the
nobility and became the Sultan's vassal. After 1571, with the coronation of István Báthory, this

Due to Louis being connected to the Habsburgs through his own marriage and that of his sister
Anne, the Habsburg Archduke of Austria Ferdinand I was elected King of Bohemia. He moved to
secure his title as King of Hungary and was crowned King by a minority group of nobles on
December 16th 1526. However, he was not uncontested. János Zápolyai was also elected King by
the majority of the nobility on November 11th. In order to cement his rule, Zápolyai was encouraged
by a Polish noble and the French ambassador to Poland to enter an agreement with the Ottoman
Sultan. As a result, Suleiman I supported Zápolyai and had him become his vassal. Suleiman then
moved to expand further into Hungary and marched west, reaching Vienna in 1529. After the siege,
heavy snowfall forced the Ottomans to retreat on October 14th, while Ferdinand secured the western
province of Hungary. It was this division which remained the status quo until our period being
studied, due to the exhaustion of the Ottoman machine of expansion. The result was the split of
Hungary by the seventeenth century into the Habsburg controlled Royal Hungary in the west, the
rival Principality of Transylvania in the east and the Ottoman controlled lands of the south and
centre. This made sure that the Habsburg could consolidate power in Hungary while it was so
divided. It should next be argued that a substantial factor in the restrictions

Round characters are throughout the story and all play a significant role during the story. Jonathan,
Mina, and Dr.Seward are all round characters that make a significant impact on the story. The round
characters play a significant and impactful part, throughout the story. For example, when Mina
Harker was in the process of becoming a vampire in Chapter 26 she guides and helps the group
consisting of Jonathan, Mina, Seward, Vanhelsing, Arthur, and Quincey Morris track down Dracula
so they can have the jump on him. "All day long we have traveled..." (Stoker 393). This shows that
Mina has given them information on Dracula and join them in the journey. They find and kill him to
set Mina soul free. Dr. Seward was a Doctor who helped Mina and Lucy to save one of their lives.
The quote shows that round characters play a big part in the story. Jonathan develops throughout the
story. It proves round's play a major role throughout the book even though some may not even

Education and the World Citizen
Education seems to be becoming more and more of a controversial subject not only among
government, but also with school boards, teachers, parents, and even the students. Some of this
controversy is attributed to the normal routine things such as starting times, funding for clubs and
sports, and more recently the rise of violence in the schools, as well as outcries from the church for
the return of religion in the schools. However, people of today's society are even more confused by
the recent additions of new subjects not only the college curriculum but also in the curriculum of

Nussbaum proves this to be true when she tells us about the University of Chicago and how the

According to the World Citizen Organization, a world citizen is "an inhabitant that embraces all

Effects Of Xenophobia In Hungary
The root of this continuing and constantly high level of xenophobia can be found in the country's
historical legacy. As Pál Nyíri (2003) points out when talking about the possible systemic sources of
xenophobia in the country, xenophobia can have economic and cultural factors, where economic the
historical factors refer to previous incidents ethnic or religious conflicts (p. 30). Neményi and
Takács's (2005) findings relate to this idea: in their study they found that historical experiences can
have an influencing effect on the extent of xenophobia (p. 51).
From a historic point of view these theories are supported in the case of Hungary, as the country has
experienced being taken over by other nations more than one time, which can explain the current
fear of being occupied and the authority being taken out of Hungarian hands again. The most
important and longest of these occupations were the Ottoman occupation that lasted 150 years and
the Soviet occupation that lasted nearly 50 years. These invasions are particularly important because

Hutter's Role In The Novel Dracula By Bram Stoker
Women in the 1920s were gaining rights, but were still far behind where women are today. World
War I took place at the time when Nosferatu was being filmed, this is significant because it was with
World War I that women worldwide gained respect and had their ability to perform tasks apart from
caring for the home recognized. Nosferatu is based upon the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker, but has
many variations in characters and events. The character of Johnathan is now Hutter, Count Dracula

their relative importance. As Hutter's role in the fight against Orlock is reduced compared to that of

To start, the book Hutter has on the subject of vampires calls Nosferatu the bird of death. By calling
Nosferatu a bird, Orlock is degraded to a less harmful being. Another reference to animals is Hutter's
belief that the puncture wounds on his neck originated from mosquitos, when in reality Orlock is
responsible for the wounds. Mosquitos are generally regarded as bothersome insects; therefore by
comparing the wounds caused by Orlock to mosquito bites, Orlock is made to appear somewhat
negligible. Another distinction that can be made between Dracula and Orlock is the effects of their
drawing blood from their victims. When Dracula feeds on his victims they become "Un–Dead" and
"prey on their kind" (Stoker 178). However Orlock's victims only die and are not subject to living on
as Un–Dead. This difference means that Orlock is less harmful to his victims than Dracula. In
addition, the townspeople believe that the plague is responsible for the multitude of deaths that are
occurring. By calling what Orlock does a regular, known illness, the horror associated with the
unknown disease caused by Orlock is diminished. Therefore although the plague is a horrible
illness, the fear of the unknown is removed, making Orlock seem less monstrous. Finally, Orlock
can be killed by sunlight unlike Dracula who is only weakened. This mortality makes it easier for

even though some may not even notice. But they play a role that can change up the whole story. The
round character has to develop like Mina did.

Return To Learn Policy Essay
We are writing to you on behalf of Transylvania University's special topics class on concussions as
taught by Dr. Bethany Jurs. During this semester, we have learned the chemical processes of a
concussion, the cognitive, psychological, and physical impacts that follow, and treatment options to
help those who have suffered or are still managing the symptoms of a concussion. We are writing to
you today to address another topic of investigation, Transylvania University's Return to Learn
policy. Upon assessing the existing Return to Learn policy, we have noticed some positive qualities
in this policy. However, there are areas that could be strengthened in order to better educate and
serve the faculty and students of Transylvania University.
To begin, we would like to acknowledge the many positive aspects of Transy's current Return to
Learn policy. As a class, we analyzed the NCAA's Return to Learn policies and were pleased to see
that Transy's policy follows similar aspects. The policy includes a step–by–step ... Show more

We noticed differences between how a concussion is handled when it concerns student athletes
versus non–student athletes. Concerning athletes, when one receives a head injury, they are
evaluated on site for a concussion by an athletic trainer. From there, it is up to the athletic trainers to
report the case to disability services. For non–student athletes, upon receiving a head injury, a note
is required from a medical professional, such as an off–campus doctor, before they can register with
disability services. If there is a delay in receiving medical treatment, there will also be a delay for
the necessary help to recover. While the disability services office certainly does need medical proof
of a concussion so that they can offer the best treatment possible, this does put an extra burden on
concussed non–student

Nature Of Nature In Dracula
Meanwhile, not only characters can represent the monstrous–feminine. Creed, for instance, points
out how one of the space ships in Alien resembles "open legs," leading the characters through a
"vaginal" opening into the nesting place of the monsters ("Horror and the Monstrous–Feminine"
56). In Dracula, untamed nature itself represents the monstrous–feminine. The rural areas of
Transylvania are set in stark contrast with the urban England that represents the world of men and
order. Jonathan describes the foreign land as "one of the wildest and least known portions of
Europe" (Stoker 10). However, although the country's nature poses dangers in some regards (for
instance in the form of wolves) (Stoker 18), it is also "a country which was full ... Show more

Like these other characters, Transylvania plays second fiddle to the "normal" occidental England.
Transylvania represents the East and therefore also the "colonial other" in contrast to Britain's male–
dominated modern cities. The female vampires represent the monstrous–feminine women that are
contrasted with the submissive and docile Mina. Dracula himself is contrasted with the male heroic
protagonists of the novel. It is also noteworthy that we never get Dracula's perspective on the story
just like we never get the vampire women's perspective. What is more, the story is largely focused
on England's view whereas Transylvania becomes the oriental other. All these "others" (characters
and country alike) are marginalised through the narration, which is only told through the dominant
Western characters. Lucy is the only one to become part of the monstrous–feminine discourse, and
the reader never gets insight into her thoughts after her change into a

Good Vs. Evil In Bram Stoker's Dracula
The story of Dracula begins with journey of an english solicitor, Jonathan Harker, to Transylvania
on behalf of his mentor to inform Count Dracula of his latest purchase, an estate in london. During
his stay at Castle Dracula Jonathan notice some odd behavior of the Count, but ignores his
seemingly unfounded fears––until he discovers he has become a prisoner in the Castle and escape is
futile. Meanwhile thousands of miles away in England Mina murray awaits the return of her fiance,
Harker, from his business trip. She is staying at the home of her dearest friend Lucy Westenra;
however, Mina observes odd occurrence at the home, Lucy begins to experience several episodes of
sleepwalking, lethargy, even after a great deal of sleep, and have odd puncture wounds on her neck.
Lucy steadily worsen and a friend of a friend is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Van Helsing, Morris, Seward, Holmwood, Harker and Mina all align with side of Good; while the
Count and his horde of vampiric women . On the side of evil, Stoker characterizes vampire as sinful
beings who look and act in sexaully explicit ways, the acts of vampirism such as sucking blood and
it's transformation are paralleled with sexual acts, and in accordance with time period where "sexaul
reppression and evasion"(Wolf, 392) were societal standards, Dracula and his debauched women
represent evil in all its immorality. Van Helsing and co. wield christian and catholic holy items to
defeat their immoral opposition in their righteous crusade, "Thus are we ministers of God's own
wish: that the world, and men for whom His Son die, will not be given over to monsters, whose very
existence would defame Him" (294). Stoker has the group constantly referencing scripture and re–
asserting their belief that this is their holy mission and Van Helsing compares it to christians in the

Young Frankenstein Play Analysis Musical Insights

  • 1. Young Frankenstein Play Analysis Young Frankenstein was a musical that the UA Theatre & Dance put on November 17–20 and 22, 2015. The play focuses on the grandson of Victor Frankenstein, Frederick, after he inherits his grandfather's large estate in Transylvania due to his grandfather's death. Once arriving in Transylvania, Frederick gains his side–kick Igor and his assistant Inga. Frederick travels to his grandfather's estate with the intent to close the place down and head back to New York so he can return to his fiance and continue teaching. And 2.) that I thought was going to see the traditional story line of Frankenstein. My perceived stereotypes before seeing the play were based on ones that I had from reading the novel Frankenstein last year. I was stereotyping the setting of Transylvania, the townspeople, and that Doctor Frankenstein would be a little psychotic. My expectations to see the traditional story was far from accurate, infact I was almost completely wrong. This play did not follow the life of Victor Frankenstein, rather it was the story of his grandson hence the title Young Frankenstein. Also, I learned about the young doctor from a big city who did not want to be affiliated with his families name; however, after visiting his grandfather's estate in Transylvania and seeing how truly genius he was, things changed. The musical depicts cultures of a big city (New York) and a small town (Transylvania). The audience can see clearly how different these two cities are just by the surrounding characters in these scenes. Many of my views were changed throughout this play. The comedy through the actors influenced my attitude towards the townspeople of Transylvania. It also made me see how in different places people do things in various ways and can be at different education ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most of its people are of Roman origin–in fact, "Romania" means "land of the Romans". But there are also Hungarians, Germans, Serbs, Tartars, and Russians who make up the rest of the population. The official language is Romanian, the only language of Latin origin in Eastern Europe. Brought up to respect religious traditions, the majority of Romanians is Orthodox (nearly 87 percent). Romania preserved a significant number of traditional customs and celebrations manifest within the strong community of the village. Ceremonies dedicated to the significant moments of one's life (birth, wedding, death), to natural cycles (such as solstice, equinox, harvest, springtime) or to the big religious celebrations, follow the same archaic mythical rituals they did a thousand years ago. Even though preformed in 21st century in villages marked by modernization, such traditional rites haven't diminish their prestige. They still provide viable answers to how to live in harmony with the environment and community, that the present social and economical system cannot furnish. During winter solstice, when the sun is weak and frost and dryness take over, Romanian peasants conceived ceremonies to help the Sun and Nature to overcome this "temporary crisis." For 12 days between Christmas and St. John on January 7th, all Romanian villages have specific celebrations, starting with children's caroling on Christmas eve: "Mos Ajun" or "Buna Dimineata" (Good Morning). It incorporated the elements of Gothic principles such as isolation, fascination of the past, and decay. All of the listed characteristics appear in the infamous novel Dracula and play a significant role in how the book is transcribed. But perhaps the most significant attribute would be the concept of othering or foreigners. In Bram Stoker's Dracula, Stoker provides a thorough perspective in to the British fear of the other. He utilizes the main character, Dracula, to convey how society portrays foreigners or immigrants as aggressors. Dracula highlights the British fear of the other and all that is foreign. He comes from somewhere other than England, Transylvania, to symbolize his exclusion from society and to represent his status as an immigrant. Dracula also does not have anything in common with the Transylvanian citizens. "They also express a great deal of superstition about Dracula when Jonathan Harker arrives. When I asked him if he knew Count Dracula, and could tell me anything of his castle, both he and his wife crossed themselves, and, saying that they knew nothing at all, simply refused to speak further" (Stoker 7). ... • 13. The Vampire Is A Dark And Ominous Creature Of The Woods Of... When thinking of the word "vampire" most people would think that "the vampire is a dark and ominous creature of the woods of Hungary or Transylvania" (Wilson 577). They would possibly say that the vampires in the stories that they heard of or imagined may live in caves or castles. The vampires may turn into bats and that they drain humans of their blood. Vampires have to invited into a home by an owner and they cannot go anywhere near garlic. If you try to take a picture of them they will not show up on the film. They might believe that vampires are completely uncivilized and animalistic. In many stories and films this was the story that was told of vampires and now it is known as "stereotypical vampires". Today, to keep the vampire genre fresh and new, authors and screenwriters turned the genre around and created new histories and descriptions of vampires. Some vampires are now known as attractive to lure in their victims, the term "vegetarian vampire" was introduced in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight for vampires that do not drink human blood. So many other things have changed in the "new vampire genre". The incredibly vivid and colorful world of Vampire Academy novels differs in some ways from the very basic stories and descriptions of vampires that everyone knows. Vampire Academy emerged in the midst of the young adult vampire phenomenon that began several years ago. However, it distanced itself from the others, like Twilight, with very different themes and elements. While ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dr. John Seward, sometimes called Jack by his friends, is a doctor who runs a lunatic asylum. He is a scientific person, so he does not believe in vampires at first. Even I do this myself when entering, never considering sitting close to someone already there. For example, on one day while I was studying there, there were also three other students were using this space to study and we were all separated into four different corners. However, there is some socialization that does take place there. The most common social interactions that I have witnessed are between students passing through and stopping to talk with those studying in the common area. One of the main facets of the common area is its open design, leading directly to hallways of students' rooms on the side and the elevator. A stone falling from the window would fall a thousand feet without touching anything! As far as the eye can reach is a sea of green tree tops, with occasionally a deep rift where there is a chasm. Here and there are silver threads where the rivers wind in deep gorges through the forests. But I am not in heart to describe beauty, for when I had seen the view I explored further; doors, doors, doors everywhere, and all locked and bolted. In no place save from the windows in the castle walls is there an available exit. The castle is a veritable prison, and I am a prisoner!" Stoker's use of visual imagery demonstrates how Stoker's style differs from others. Painting a beautiful picture of the skyline of the magnificent castle, with trees towering the earth, with breaks of rivers that "wind in deep gorges through the forest.", the reader gets an image of peace and nature. Then immediatly after, we see a complete 180 from what the beautiful picture of the castle and landscape to a place of depression and internal conflict, Harker feels trapped and no longer feels like a guest in Dracula's castle. Stoker's use of imagery and shift in tone, from beauty and peace to imprisonment and fear shows his style, a form of uneasy peace and beauty in this quote. • 34. Analysis of Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' DRACULA BY BRAM STOKER The epistolary form of the novel consists of a narrative based on letters, diary entries, newspaper clippings and other documentary records. It helps to bring realism into the narrative by lacing it with personal and historical references. It helps to add believability by incorporating a variety of perspectives on the events and characters in the novel. This form works for Dracula because the log of the ship captain and the diary entries of Jonathan Harker provide personal witness accounts to prove that the events are real as opposed to imaginary. Daddy–Long– Legs by Jean Webster are a novel composed nearly entirely of letters by the orphan Jerusha Abbott to her benefactor John Smith. He already has the quest of bringing jobs to his district, while Democrat Jack Wolfman seems unclear about his definitive goals. Grey also has recorded evidence to him going in a different direction than the Tea Party, which can help him claim the moderate votes. Additionally, being the incumbent has tremendous perks through the resources available to Grey throughout the course of his term. Some preliminary disadvantages he has is that he is not connected well with his district and Wolfman has significant influence over some of the Republican base through his work with the veterans. The failing automotive industry would appeal well to Grey's campaign assuming that he plays his cards right. There are some advantages Wolfman seems to have over Grey. First, because the district having some urban areas with large minority populations, Wolfman will probably have aligned ideology with these areas because of how Democrats tend to perform in urban cultures. Gothic literature was said to be born in 1764 when Horace Walpole published The Castle of Otranto, which is considered to be the first gothic novel ever written. Gerard's article also provided Stoker with some of the folklore surrounding Dracula and his castle: St. George's Day, "the eve of which is still frequently kept by occult meetings taking place at night in lonely caverns or within ruined walls"; hidden treasures and "the light they give forth, described as a bluish flame"; and the wolf that "continues to haunt the Transylvanian forests" (Transylvanian superstitions). Since I was in Bucharest, I decided to visit Transylvania and see the homeland of "Dracula" (associated with Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia also known as Vlad the Impaler) in person. Transylvania is maybe the most famous part of Romania offering great mountain views, impressive castles, historic medieval cities and little cute villages. There are several ... Much more simple and rugged, our very well informed tour guide told us that this rangy castle was built in the 13th century by the Teutonic Order especially for battles as it is located on the border of Wallachia with Transylvania and was suffering from attacks all the time. Its narrow corridors, the low tunnel staircases and its complex construction like a labyrinth, allowed Romanians to fight the enemy with ease. In the following years, the castle was used as customs office as it is conveniently located on the Silk Road until it was taken by royal family in 1920. It initially became the residence of Queen Mary and after her death it was given to her daughter, Princess Iliana. It functioned as a hospital during World War II and then came into the possession of the communist regime with the eviction of the royal family in 1948. Although the locals insist that there is no connection of Bram Stoker's novel with the castle or with the figure of Vlad III the Impaler, ruler of Wallachia, a whole floor is devoted to recounting the legend, showing the movies filmed based in this myth and an extended homage to ... The writing style of Bram Stoker is unique and he uses any word to his advantage, describing the novel and painting a picture for the reader. The graphic description helps readers to imagine the place and make it seem as if they were there in person. The time–period of which this story was written and based upon, was in the mid–Victorian era (1850– 1870). In the novel, the setting changes a lot over the course of the story, but it is predominantly set in Transylvania, which is now inside the country of Romania. After the events of the previous century, Hungary remained divided into three distinct areas. The largest was Ottoman Hungary, under the direct control of Constantinople, which encompassed the south and south–east of Hungary. Second, there was the Eastern Hungarian Kingdom founded by János Zápolyai in 1526, who after the defeat of the Hungarian forces at the First Battle of Mohács sought the support of Sultan Suleiman I to be crowned King of Hungary by a rival faction of the nobility and became the Sultan's vassal. After 1571, with the coronation of István Báthory, this Kingdom became the Principality of Transylvania which was semi–autonomous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to Louis being connected to the Habsburgs through his own marriage and that of his sister Anne, the Habsburg Archduke of Austria Ferdinand I was elected King of Bohemia. He moved to secure his title as King of Hungary and was crowned King by a minority group of nobles on December 16th 1526. However, he was not uncontested. János Zápolyai was also elected King by the majority of the nobility on November 11th. In order to cement his rule, Zápolyai was encouraged by a Polish noble and the French ambassador to Poland to enter an agreement with the Ottoman Sultan. As a result, Suleiman I supported Zápolyai and had him become his vassal. Suleiman then moved to expand further into Hungary and marched west, reaching Vienna in 1529. After the siege, heavy snowfall forced the Ottomans to retreat on October 14th, while Ferdinand secured the western province of Hungary. It was this division which remained the status quo until our period being studied, due to the exhaustion of the Ottoman machine of expansion. The result was the split of Hungary by the seventeenth century into the Habsburg controlled Royal Hungary in the west, the rival Principality of Transylvania in the east and the Ottoman controlled lands of the south and centre. This made sure that the Habsburg could consolidate power in Hungary while it was so divided. It should next be argued that a substantial factor in the restrictions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 70. Effects Of Xenophobia In Hungary The root of this continuing and constantly high level of xenophobia can be found in the country's historical legacy. As Pál Nyíri (2003) points out when talking about the possible systemic sources of xenophobia in the country, xenophobia can have economic and cultural factors, where economic the historical factors refer to previous incidents ethnic or religious conflicts (p. 30). Neményi and Takács's (2005) findings relate to this idea: in their study they found that historical experiences can have an influencing effect on the extent of xenophobia (p. 51). From a historic point of view these theories are supported in the case of Hungary, as the country has experienced being taken over by other nations more than one time, which can explain the current fear of being occupied and the authority being taken out of Hungarian hands again. The most important and longest of these occupations were the Ottoman occupation that lasted 150 years and the Soviet occupation that lasted nearly 50 years. To start, the book Hutter has on the subject of vampires calls Nosferatu the bird of death. By calling Nosferatu a bird, Orlock is degraded to a less harmful being. Another reference to animals is Hutter's belief that the puncture wounds on his neck originated from mosquitos, when in reality Orlock is responsible for the wounds. Mosquitos are generally regarded as bothersome insects; therefore by comparing the wounds caused by Orlock to mosquito bites, Orlock is made to appear somewhat negligible. Another distinction that can be made between Dracula and Orlock is the effects of their drawing blood from their victims. When Dracula feeds on his victims they become "Un–Dead" and "prey on their kind" (Stoker 178). However Orlock's victims only die and are not subject to living on as Un–Dead. This difference means that Orlock is less harmful to his victims than Dracula. In addition, the townspeople believe that the plague is responsible for the multitude of deaths that are occurring. By calling what Orlock does a regular, known illness, the horror associated with the unknown disease caused by Orlock is diminished. Therefore although the plague is a horrible illness, the fear of the unknown is removed, making Orlock seem less monstrous. Finally, Orlock can be killed by sunlight unlike Dracula who is only weakened. This mortality makes it easier for Ellen to defeat the vampire compared to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
