Taken
I chose to analyze a film called Taken which was written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen. It
was directed by Pierre Morel and released in 2008. This movie is a thriller with the sub genres of
crime, action and drama. The main character is Kim, who is seventeen and goes to Paris with her
friend, who is nineteen, and gets captured while talking on the phone with her father. Her father is
an ex government employee. He uses his intelligence to pinpoint her location by recording the
conversation. The action in the film is based around his battle with the people that were involved in
the kidnapping of his daughter. He later finds her being prostituted to a pimp. The kidnappers try to
hide her from her father as he fights to find her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brian is a character which the audience can relate to as he has many sides to him and that he is a
lonely man, divorced from the mother of his daughter. He is often confined in his dark apartment
where he sits glancing at photos of his beloved daughter.
The audience begins to feel sorry for his character because they can emphasize with his feelings; For
example when he goes to his daughter's birthday even though he wasn't allowed. His behavior
around those who have rejected him seem very forced and desperate. In the action part of the film he
does not have many weaknesses because of his previous job but this is a contrast between his softer
sides. However, how much he loves his daughter is seen as a weakness by the enemy and leaves him
vulnerable, this leads to him getting hurt while trying to fight off the people who have his daughter.
An enigma was created around the character from the beginning of the film as he spoke to his
daughter's kidnapper he says, "I have a various set of skills that I have acquired from a long career".
These skills are not seen until later in the film when he uses his forensic skills to locate his daughter
but this alerts the audience that this man is not normal. One

The Road Not Taken
The Road Not Taken By: Robert Frost Imagine that your making a decision and you are stuck to
choose between two things that could change and impact your life greatly. What would you do?
What pathway would you take? Robert Frost wrote 'The Road Not Taken' in 1916 at the age of 42 in
New England, Massachusetts. 'The Road Not Taken' is one of his most popular works due to the
ideology of choices that people would have to face in their life. In the early 20th century, Robert
Frost based the majority of his poems from rural life in New England, where he grew up. Robert
Frost was highly regarded for his deep, realistic understanding of rural life and using elaborate
social and philosophical themes in his works. This poem explores a ... Show more content on

For the second stanza, the traveller is describing that both pathways are equally the same through
the used of extended metaphors, personification and metaphors. On third stanza, the poet is
providing additional information on the season by "And both that morning equally lay, in leaves no
step had trodden black". This imagery of the season autumn symbolises the perfect layers of yellow
leaves on the path as for a long period of time no one has walked on it yet. On third line,
onomatopoeia was used which is "oh" that illustrates an emphatic tone for the decision that he made.
The traveller is now regretting the decision that he made. On the last two lines, an extended
metaphor was used, "Yet knowing how way leads on to way", "I doubted if I should ever come
back". These last two lines of the third stanza, heightens the attention of readers that he hopes that
he could try the other path as the traveller knows 'how one road can lead to another'. Also, the
traveller is having doubts as it is impossible to retrace steps as other choices or decisions can lead to
other options in life. The third stanza raises the awareness to readers as he decided to stick with the
decision that he made but still with a bit of regrets. The last stanza, Robert Frost uses a number of
poetic techniques, in order to demonstrate the fear and regrets as he already made which path to go
and now, there's no turning back. In the first line onomatopoeia was used and

A Road Not Taken
Robert Frost was one of the most well known American poets in the modernist era. One of his most
famous poems is titled "A Road Not Taken". Frost was born on March 26, 1874, in San Francisco
California. He then passed away on January 29, 1963, in Boston Massachusetts.
On March 26, 1874, a man named Robert frost was born. Like all famous artists and poets, he
started off as a nobody. As a child, Frost lost his father at the age of 11. After that he went on to live
with his mother and sister. As time went on, frost met his wife, Elinor White. Going on to college,
frost later began studying at Dartmouth College. After a short amount of time, Frost left college and
began working. He went by in many different unsatisfying jobs. As Frost began to

The poem my group and I chose to annotate was Robert Frosts "The Road Not Taken". We chose
this poem because it is one of the most widely recognized poems of all time. The assignment was a
bit complex in my opinion, especially when it came to part two the write up part. Part 1 was a good
experience being that it was a group assignment. I had a fantastic team, and we each shared a part in
annotating the poem. We each had a role in the annotation of the poem, we took two parts of speech
each to identify in the poem and we rotated roles as well. The difficult part was trying to identify
main verbs from adverbs, and adverbs from adjective. In our poem, we managed to find all the parts
of speech listed that we have been working with over the last few weeks of class. The poem yet
simple as it seems, it is a bit more complex than it appears to be. It poem uses symbolism and
metaphors, the ability to say one thing and mean another. The poem has four stanzas, twenty lines,
three sentences and it uses simple words but has a complex structure. The poem uses the metaphor
of a path that can be compared to life, and a similar path that represents choice. Both paths appear to
be tempting to the speaker in the second line ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I especially had a difficult time figuring out the complex sentences. The first sentence in the poem is
a bit long, it is about twelve lines and I did not know one sentence could be that long and still be
considered a sentence. It took me a while to dissect and really get the understanding of the poem
itself. Stanzas 1 and 2 were the most difficult structures to mark. The hardest part of speech to
identify was the adverbs when doing this activity/ assignment. Adverbs and adjective identification
can sometimes be difficult, but in this particular poem, it was the main verb and adverbs. In the first
line of stanza one, "diverged" was a word I was not sure if I it was a main verb or an

The movie Taken, directed by Pierre Morel, illustrates how young girls are often targeted and fall
victim to sex trafficking. Kim, a seventeen year old female, goes to Paris with her friend Amanda
with the intention of spending a nice vacation together (Besson, 2009). Despite the fact that Kim's
father, Bryan, does not feel comfortable with the idea of the girls' vacation, Kim disregards his
concerns and proceeds to go anyway. Unfortunately, on the first day of the vacation, Kim and
Amanda are kidnapped by a group of Albanian sex traffickers. Kim's father, a retired CIA agent,
quickly finds a way to rescue his daughter by using his professional skills. In the process of trying to
find Kim, the retired CIA agent is also faced with the shocking realities of the sex trafficking
market. This movie illustrates how young girls are especially vulnerable to kidnapping and sex
trafficking and how important a parent or loved one's resilience is to help these victims. ... Show

Even after learning his daughter had been kidnapped by Albanian sex traffickers, Bryan never
ceased in his pursuit to find his daughter. Bryan portrays a father who will do whatever it takes to
protect and keep his only daughter safe. As soon as Kim notified him about her friend Amanda being
taken and that there was a great possibility that the same thing would happen to her, Bryan
immediately stepped into action. He became proactive by covering any loose ends, asking her
questions, and recording previous phone conversations with the traffickers. This was a key strategy
he used to pick up any clues as to where Kim was to ensure her safety. Unlike Bryan, Kim's mother,
Lenore, was less proactive and vulnerable. She did not show resilience after being told that her
daughter was taken. Instead, she cried and relied on Bryan to find Kim and bring her

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; (5)
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, (10)
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. (15)

Diction is the poet 's choice of words to create meaning based on the denotation and connotation of
any given word. The word "sorry" in the "and sorry I could not travel both" (2) has a strong meaning
of regret; it shows that the persona was regretful before he even made the choice. He knows that he
can only choose one or the other. Then, the word "sigh" in the "I shall be telling this with a sigh"
(16) expresses regretful and sadness. The persona tells his decision he made at the past time with a
facial expression of regret. Next, the word "difference" in the "and that has made all the difference"
(20) has a meaning of changing in his life.
From the poetry devices, we can see the literariness and the meaning of the poem. The choice that
the persona made in front of the two diverging roads impacts the rest of his journey. Same as the
persona, people are just like that traveler, traveling on the journey of life. The journey consists of
many roads. Different choices on different roads lead to different destination and impact the rest of

The Step Not Taken
Have you ever been through a situation where it changed your perspective on how you see things?
Or even changed you as a person? This is called an 'archetype.' This is seen to shape the behaviour,
belief, and identity of an individual and community. This can also be called an 'epiphany' which is a
moment of sudden understanding, clarity, insight, or illumination that has a lasting impact on an
individual and shapes his or her identity. That is exactly what happened in the essay, "The Step Not
Taken" by Paul D'Angelo.
There are three stages in the Monomyth; Separation, Struggle or Initiation, then Return and
Reintegration. The narrator of the essay, Paul D'Angelo, went through all three stages. ... Show more

Robert Frost's, "The Road Not Taken", addresses challenges every human must face. The poem
describes a man in the woods who has come upon two trails. The man is faced with a decision. The
poem explains that the paths look very similar, but each leads to a different outcome. The poem is a
direct represents facing or two choices. Choices define people. Frost sheds light on the difficulty and
curiosity that comes with making decisions and how people will allow pre–determined regret to
affect the choices they make. (Secondary source) The traveler studies the paths, looking down each
as far as he can. After noticing the trails are quite similar, he takes one. He states that he would save
the other trail for another day, yet he knows that trails lead to more trails, and he doubts that he will
ever come back. The poem closes with the man imagining himself looking back on his decision with

When Frost writes, "And sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked
down one as far as I could" (lines 1–3). It describes a problem all people must face: making
decisions without knowing exactly where those decisions will lead. Much like the man in the poem,
people want to know as much as possible about both options; still, however, knowing they can only
choose one. Zeelenberg concludes, "... people are motivated to make choices that shield them from
threatening feedback on foregone courses of action. Thus, people are motivated to avoid post–
decisional regret. This regret aversion has a profound influence on their decisions, because the
possibility of regret is anticipated and subsequently taken into account when making decisions"
(101). This means that people use the fear of regret to determine their choices. They want to learn
everything they can about the two choices so they do not end up regretting the choice they made.

In Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken" he uses imagery of the road to represent choices. This
poem's lesson can be used in life every day. The first stanza represents the idea that life has choices,
the second and third stanzas represent the good and bad of the choices we make, and the persona of
the poem chooses the harder choice that wanted wear. First, life has choices. Every day we have to
make choices. Whether it be what to wear or what to eat for breakfast. Those are not very important
choices. An important choice would be which college to attend or what you decide you want your
job to be. As with the persona in the poem, we "cannot go in both directions" (Lee 11). Just like you

The poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, is a poem that has many meanings depending on
the reader. The poem was published in 1916 and it is a very interesting poem. It's a fairly short poem
consisting of only 20 lines, and it is full of metaphors and imagery and it has many ways that it can
be interpreted. The poem's use of imagery leaves the reader trying to figure out what Frost meant
when he wrote the poem. Since it is a poem, it generally has no correct way to interpret it, but it
usually has a similar meaning for everyone. This is my analysis of "The Road Not Taken" by Robert
Frost. The poems dramatic situation is that there are two roads diverged in the woods. A traveler

"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood", since leaves change colors in the fall they could be yellow
and orange, but It could also be a type of tree, or just the appearance from the morning sunrise. The
speaker stands where the two roads diverge because the speaker of the poem is the traveler. I believe
that the poem is just one big metaphor for life and the choices along the way. The paths are the
different decision that are made along the way. No path is the right path, each person gets to go their
own way through life. "one traveler" shows that the choice is only for that one individual, no one
else has a say and that he is alone in this journey. The roads diverging are symbol for 2 different
ways that your life can go, and one choice can make the difference between what happens in life. I
think the roads are also symbols of the choices you make throughout life. That it's one or the other,
and not both. You can experience one path and dream about what the 2nd road would have been
like. The poem has multiple themes. I found a few possible themes including: life, choices, and
regret are all possible themes I thought of. The themes life, and choices appear to be the biggest
themes throughout it. The theme of regret appears towards the end of the poem with the line, "I shall
be telling this with a sigh." This makes me think that he regrets the decision he made to follow one
road, and that he missed an opportunity for the other road, he wonders of what

In Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken," the narrator of the poem analyzes his situation thoroughly
prior to choosing his path. His process can be seen in several lines of the poem. For example, his
decision begins, "And be one traveler, long I stood." Similar to making any life altering decision, the
narrator takes time rather than rushing in to his path. He weighs the options of each path (decision)
as he "looked down one as far as [he] could...Then took the other, as just as fair." Upon realizing
how long each path is, the narrator realizes that once a decision has been made, it will be too late to
come back for the second option, "Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever
come back." Once the narrator has made his decision,

The Road Not Taken
In Robert Frost's poem, "The Road Not Taken," we are never told specifically who the speaker is.
When reading this poem, most people automatically assume that it is being told from a guy's
perspective, but we have no indication of that being true. The only information that we are given is
that he or she is in the woods, and has to make a decision on which path to take. He or she has come
to a crossroads, and the path's are splitting. Not knowing what stage of life he or she is in, there is a
possibility that once the decision is made, there will be no time to turn back. In stanza four, the
speaker tells us how he will be talking about his decision in the future, saying it made a big
difference in his life. With that being said, it must be a major decision whereas, a simple everyday
decision. We can assume that the speaker is a nature lover and is very spontaneous. Not very many

"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood", this is the first line of the poem (line 1). The speaker
automatically starts off with a metaphor. Once we continue reading on through the second stanza,
we see that the roads are being compared to a choice having to be made. We are also given plenty of
imagery. For example, we know that the woods are yellow. This means that it must be around the
time of fall, and the leaves are beginning to change. In line eight, the speaker tells us that one path
appears more green and grassy than the other. Also, in stanza three, along the way of their chosen
path, he or she fell asleep. The speaker wakes up telling us that it is morning, and it appeared that no
steps had been made on their path chosen. Personification is also a device used throughout this
poem. In line eight, the speaker describes the path as, "grassy and wanted wear." Using the word
"wanted" gives the path a sort of a human like characteristic. This is also an example of an

Taken For Granted
Throughout time, what comes too easy for us is usually taken for granted. What we take for granted
is trust we receive from a friend, a gift from a loved one, or power to help people are usually given
freely. One such example that we can see in history is when Winston Churchill abused his freely
given power when controlling a British army. With his stubbornness and power, that army was led to
their destruction. To a lesser degree, people like me have taken some items for granted. What we
esteem too cheap, we esteem to lightly which can be seen to be true with myself, my friend and my
cousin. When I was younger, my father decided to give to me his old Game Boy. When he gave it to
me, I played with it every day. One day I left it where I had played it last. When I returned the next
day, I discover that it was gone. I was upset for a long period but earlier last year, we found it in our
shed. To this day, I am taking better care of it and I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When my cousin was about a three years younger, he received a PSP from his parent. He loved
playing on it, but he left it where his brother could reach it. He told me one day he left it on the

had broken it. He told me he wished that he left it in a higher place so his little brother would have
no chance of breaking it.
In the future if people continue to abuse what has been given to them freely there will be no ground
for any respect. Several people today believe that if something happens to a certain item they can
just get a new one. These such items are phones, gaming consoles, or any other object given freely.
People in this generation fail to see that even though we get things freely does not mean the objects
that have an emotional factor cannot be replaced; once it is gone or broken, it is gone

Carter, being an outsider, grew very popular with the American people. His lack of insider

The media had a direct effect on America's view of the hostage situation. Americans were unaware
of the growing power of Islamic forces in Iran and that President Carter was at their mercy and

the Persian Gulf. The media was very influential in the rising disapproval of Carter. Everyday
Americans were reminded that the hostages were still being held because of Carters unsuccessful
attempts at freeing them. Farber also writes about the media in Iran. Controlled by Russia, Iran

American government. Farber deeply discussed the American and Iranian reactions to the crisis.
Americans started to pay more and more attention to the news media. The longer the hostages were

My own Analysis of the poem "The Road Not Taken"
The poem "The Road Not Taken" is a piece of literature written by the American poet Robert Frost.
Its genre is poetry. It is considered poetry because of its structure. It has a distinct numbered group
of lines in verse normally called stanza.
The structure used in Robert Frost poem varies with different types of poetry and can be seen in the
structural elements that it includes the line, couplet, and stanza. It is a straight forward series of five
line stanzas and each stanza presents a single idea. Its form is a traditional poetry which is iambic
pentameter, where each stanza has the same amount of lines. In the poem, it has five lines in every
canto with twenty lines in all. This form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It shows here how our decision would affect us in the later years. If I am twenty two now and
whatever road I take will probably impact my life as I reach thirty. "The Road Not Taken" reminds
us of the consequences of the principle of selection in all aspects of life, namely that all choices in
knowledge or in action exclude many others and lead to an ironic recognitions of our achievements.
There are three tenses of verbs used in the poem; the present, past, and future. The poem leads us to
travel from present, going to the past after the present situation and directing us to the future. It
started from a person who travels to take one road out of the two roads, going on to the experience
of 'what' when the road to take was chosen and directs us to 'what' of next afterwards.
In the final stanza, the use of the word 'shall' signals the change of tense to future, we hear a
different story, one that will be told "with a sigh" or one that will set out a deep audible breath of
weariness or sorrow and "ages and ages hence" which means sometime or somewhere a long time
later . At that imagined time and unspecified place, the voice will have nobly simplified and exalted
the whole impetuous matter into a deliberate one of taking the "less travelled"

A reader must consider the words of Robert Frost in "The Road Not Taken" as carefully as the
individual must consider every choice that finds them as the paths of life intersect (Kirszner &
Mandell, 2012, p.624). An individual can get analysis paralysis when they think about each and
every choice too much. People can "analyze something to death" (Lewis, 2014, p. 517).The
individual applies Newton's third law of motion, "to every action there is always opposed and equal
reaction" and this consideration can render them into a state of confusion and indecisiveness as they
consider the next step (Sharma, 2016, p. 23). Everything we do is a choice and every action has a
reaction, therefore as individuals with free will, we are aware that we are the navigator on our
individual path, and not making a choice has consequences just as surely as making an active
choice. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the end of a day, a week, or a life, the end result is very different based on each individual road,
accordingly, every choice is pivotal and final. The "road not taken" may haunt the individual to
ponder and consider how their life would be different, save that one small choice (Kirszner &
Mandell, 2012, p.624). Not only will the individual never gets back to the original path, they will
have lost all of the opportunities the alternate path would open up for them. The individual considers
a choice, takes responsibility for a decision and therefore, chance does not determine the outcome,
but instead, the individual determines the

Robert Frost wrote the poem "The Road Not Taken" in 1915. This poem was a part of the collected
poems. It was called the collected poems. The poem is about a man or a woman that is faced with a
decision that could change their life. Even though he/she makes a decision he/she is not completely
satisfied. And he/she soon realizes that they may have made the right decision. As the poem
continues, there are an abundance of themes that develop. Perhaps one of the themes that develop is
the circle of life. Everyone has to make decisions in their lifetime that will define who they are, one
day as part of the circle of life that begins as a young person until as an older person, life comes to
an end. At the beginning of the poem, it says that

The poem, "The Road Not Taken," by Robert Frost clearly demonstrates the use of the theme,
growing up is a challenge for everyone. The narrator relates to people growing up by facing issues
with making a decision he is uncertain about, and he ultimately regrets the choice he made. To
begin, Frost writes "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both, And be
one traveler, long I stood" (Frost 1–3). These lines of the poem are an analogy to a difficult decision
the narrator had to make. As you can tell, he had two choices, not two roads precisely, and he was
sorry he had to make this decision. This line supports the theme because part of growing up is being
faced with a demanding problem where you ultimately make a choice. When you realize you have to
choose, this leads to uncertainty. Continuing, the narrator elaborates on his issue by saying "Though

Within these lines, the narrator is hinting that both of these choices he had to choose from were
alike. One was simply not better than the other to his eye. As much as he tried to compare them by
their beauty and appeal, they were simply identical. This line supports the theme because when you
make decisions in your youth, you realize that occasionally one choice isn't better than the other,
which causes the uncertainty of your final decision. No matter the choice you make, when there is
uncertainty, there will always be a hint of regret. Lastly, the narrator gives us a glimpse into his
emotions by saying, "I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence" (Frost 16–
17). The author is foreshadowing that after the fact of choosing a path, he feels regret. He says he
will be sighing when he tells this story, which gives us the idea that he isn't happy with the choice he
made. The theme of the story can be proved by this because when growing up, there will regrets,
especially when the decision is

meaning. Such a meaning is a lie told by the narrator that he says to himself to make himself feel

about you, the reader. In addition, Robert Frost uses symbolism to mark the different life choices by
making them into two roads.
The narrator in this poem creates a feeling of confusion about the travelers choices. He uses actions
to move the plot along as well as imagery to create a picture in the reader's mind. Due to the fact that
there are two roads there has to be a decision made between them. By being confused and not

certain elements in various ways, so that Taken is also not a typical "action" film in many ways.
Overall, Taken is largely a "progressive" action film, which deviates from many generic conventions
in typical action films. However, different aspects of the film can be considered either "status quo"
or "progressive", depending on the characteristics that are analyzed and considered. For the purposes
of this paper, three specific dimensions will be considered in how Taken fits into, or diverges from,
the action genre: characterization of race/ethnicity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, his character prefers to think through steps in a logical manner to solve problems. A good
example is when he arrives in Paris, and instead of frantically looking through the apartment where
his daughter was kidnapped, he slowly and methodically retraces what must have happened when
she was taken (through mental flashback images, with action), similar to examining a crime scene.
This scene could then be interpreted as recognizing that violence is there in the film, but elsewhere,
while Bryan takes an calm, thoughtful approach in line with his character. Another example would
be when Bryan is on the phone with Kim before she was about to be taken hostage. While the scene
was frantic on her end of the conversation, Bryan did not panic, and actually told Kim that she
would be taken. Again, while most action films would most likely have the main character
panicking and rushing to action, Bryan seems to thoughtfully think out each step, and does not lose
his cool. This is a good example of how the character of Bryan, and the film more generally, do not
engage in spectacle for the sake of it, but take a collected approach toward events that could

Another poem I chose to go with my theme was "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost. This poem
explains how choices are like a fork in the road. There are two paths that you have the option of
taking but each one will lead to a different place. It shows that depending on your actions and what
you choose to do, each path will lead to something different from the other. This poem also shows
that there is a choice everyone makes. You can either make your own choice and follow your path or
you can follow the path that everyone else takes and not be yourself. The theme I chose is shown in
this poem because, everyone makes a choice, whether its to be themselves, follow the designated
path that everyone has taken, or which path to take, everyone has

The Road Not Taken
Although most haven't read it in its entirety, Robert Frost's poem, "The Road Not Taken," is one of
the most popular American poems of the twentieth century. The story is often misremembered as the
tale of an adventurer who chooses the path where fewer have been. Frost begins his poem with
juxtaposing two roads diverging in a wood. He cannot see very far ahead on either path. The
narrator is a quintessential nonconformist when he, theoretically, "choose[s] the one less traveled
by." (19) Frost presents a classic conflict: the decision between the common, easy path and the
exceptional, challenging path. The road less traveled is more challenging to travel because the
reader assumes there is a reason he road more traveled is more traveled for ... Show more content on

The speaker says that both roads are equally beautiful, and also equally worn. He says he will leave
the first path for another day, then admits to himself: "Yet knowing how way leads on to way, / I
doubted if I should ever come back." (14–15) The speaker never fully rules out taking the road less
traveled, and never officially denies that he will come back. Yet, he admits to himself that one
choice leads to another and most likely he will never journey back to the fork and be faced with the
same decision. The speaker anticipates the regret he will feel when "telling this with a sigh" (16)
based on his decision no matter which path he takes. But in the last stanza the speaker argues he
should not feel any regret because it does not matter either way. The narrator says how he will
someday look back and claim "with a sigh" that choosing the "one less traveled ... made all the
difference." He knows that he will comfort himself by saying that the choices he has made have lead
to the place he is in his life, when, in reality, his position is a combination of his choices and chance.
He knows that his choice was really arbitrary, and his destiny will likely not be impacted his
outcome either way. In this last stanza, the speaker acknowledges the stereotype of the

Essay On The Road Taken And Not Taken
The Road Taken and Not Taken Response I had to choose between playing a full–time summer sport
or going on family vacations in the summer. Sports enriched my life in many ways such as creating
more memories with my friends, allowing my pitching to improve, and gaining valuable team
experience. Family vacations also could have changed my life as it allows for more family time,
memories, and adventures. In the end, I chose to play a summer sport because it increased my games
per year, practices per year, and a significant increase in game experience. I am happy with my
decision because it gave me lifelong experiences.

By working with girls with varying levels of athleticism and knowledge, I was taught how to be a
team player who builds off everyone's skills. I also learned how to continue fighting even when you
are losing the battle. I learned many lessons from games. I think the most important lesson I learned
is you should never give up. Never giving up is important in sports as you can always come back
and win. In light of all my reasons I chose to play a full–time summer sport, travel softball, instead
of going on family vacations.
The road I chose to not take was to go on family vacations in the summer. Had I gone on family
vacations I would have experienced more family time, created more memories, and had the
adventures of a lifetime with my family. Being able to experience more family time would allow me
to make more lasting memories with my grandparents. I could have made family memories with my
relatives which could last me lifetimes. The family adventures could have been memorable and
possibly sparked a new career interest.
My life could be very different had I made this choice. Possible changes could have been having
more family time, more family memories, and more family adventures. Having more family time
could be being able to meet up every Sunday afternoon to eat dinner. Weekends are traditionally
monopolized by tournaments, round robins, and practices. Or family time could be being able to go

Do We Self Impose Right and Wrong?
Most people do not know how far they will go, until they are tested by a situation. The actions taken
by one person could be the opposite of another. Factors such as Morals, background, reward, and
how personal it is contributes to how far the person is willing to go. Are there limits that a person
would self–impose to right a wrong? A person's background can have a huge effect on the actions of
an individual. If a recluse loses his daughter he will most likely not go as far as a retired soldier
simply because he doesn't have the training or experience. In Taken, Bryan Mills (retired spy) has
his daughter stolen by criminals, which causes him to torture and kill anybody who has information
on his daughter's location (Taken Pierre Morel). Bryan a formal soldier has training and experience
on torturing and killing to get what he wants, allowing himself to take matters into his own hands
instead of relying on the police to do it. Having a background on a subject means the same thing as
experience. Edward Dolnick said, "Though Hill disliked and distrusted Ulving, he had no doubt that
he could win them over (pg.99). Hill would have not been able to "know that he could win them
over" unless he had experience at winning people over like Ulving. Charley Hill went with his prior
knowledge on working with criminals, even though he said he "disliked and distrusted Ulving".

The Path It is a fact of life that decisions must be made in order for a person to progress through life.
One cannot simply make the decision to sit in an infinite state of neutrality. The simplest daily
processes are decisions that have been made, whether they are conscious decisions or unconscious
decisions. It does not matter if the decisions are right or wrong. That in itself is not important
because right and wrong is entirely subjective. The only important motion in play is that a decision
has been made. Robert Frost captivates with his poem "The Road Not Taken." Frost, in few words,
brings to light the decisions that all functioning humans will be faced with. When Frost says, "Two
roads diverged in a yellow wood," (1) these roads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It happened and is now a small log in the history book of one's life. Frost says, "Oh, I kept the first
for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I shall ever come back" (13–
15). Here, the traveler excitedly expresses a decision to take the second path with intentions to
return to and travel down the first; however, he quickly realizes that this is not a choice that his life
will likely allow. As decisions go, life will rarely allow for a redo of sorts. It seems that the traveler
did not anticipate coming to this fork in the road, but nevertheless he did. Reasonably, he has
understood that he must take a path knowing that he will not return to the other path. One must use
this logic when making the most difficult of decisions in life because it is reasonable to believe that
choice is permanent. Decisions are simply that, decisions. The lesson and story learned from a
decision is the most valuable piece of the puzzle of life. It is important never to forget the other
choice that was not made. If one remembers the choice they made, they can help their loved ones
navigate the rough waters of life. "I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence"
(16–17). The traveler knows he will hold on to this fork in the road long into his future. He wishes
to tell the story of the fork that came to, and let it be known of the path he took. Perhaps, this part of

In the article, "Frost's 'The Road Not Taken'" William George illustrates three different stages of life
used in the poem. The narrator being a middle–aged man who looks back on his younger self and
ahead of his older self. The younger and older version being very much alike and poised choose the
same road, the more traveled path. The speaker faces a more or less traveled road. The middle age
man being the only one that sees the dilemma takes the road of truth and the non–chosen road is
deception. George states that Robert holds up an earlier, less wise version of himself for gently
mockery, attacking his older self. Attributing to sorrow, claims, and choices all three made that lead
to being himself. George asserts complexity of the attack

16 March 17 The Road Not Taken The Road Not Taken was written by Robert Frost. The poem was
first published in 1916 in Mountain Interval. This poem is one of Frost's most popular poems. The
speaker in this poem is at a crossroads, and is choosing which path they should take. Knowing his
choice will determine his future he chooses which path will take. The speaker then imagines himself

Introduction
Robert Frost has made a poem named The Road Not Taken constructed of language features,
conventions and stylistic features; these techniques help to convey main message of the poem being
regret and provide the audience with a comfortable and smooth read.
Language Features
Robert Frost describes the life and decisions of a man who has not made some of the correct
decisions throughout his life and would like to take some new unexplored paths. The use of
language features communicate to the audience that the narrator is feeling regretful. Robert Frost
displays personification throughout the poem 'Because it was grassy and wanted wear'
communicating that the area has not been used. The audience would be curious about this area
because there has been little explanation to what the area looks like, the phrase 'wanting wear'
indicates that the path is lonely and wants use, it compares an inanimate object to a human feeling to
provide the audience with an idea of what the road is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through the use of conventions Robert Frost has implied that the narrator is feeling regret about the
decisions he has made in the past. There is an A–B–A–A–B rhyme pattern structure and with the use
of a similar syllable pattern throughout each stanza, the first line consists of the same number of
syllables. The entire poem comprises of a similar syllable pattern considering the range of syllables
is from 8 to 10 throughout all four stanzas. The usage of the A–B–A–A–B structure supports the
audience to read and interpret the poem as a whole because the structure provides a nice flowing
read. Robert Frost conveys the narrator's regret about decisions he has made during previous
occasions throughout his life; the use of a similar syllable count of makes the reader further induced
to read until the end and to interpret the real message of the poem being

The Road Not Taken
"The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost is about a choice, and when we are faced with making a
decision we have to choose one, but that also means that we have to give up on the other opportunity
to do something else. That one decision can determine our entire lives. When the speaker chose "the
one less traveled by," the speaker says, " has made all the difference." The poem begins with a
dilemma, the need to come up with a decision and solve the problem. When out walking, the
speaker comes to a fork in the road and has to decided which path in the woods to choose and
follow. A fork in the road symbolizes choices in life.
We don't know much about the speaker, but we know that the speaker has to make a huge decision
that would change his life.

Interpretation of The Road Not Taken
For many years "The Road Not Taken" has been misinterpreted from the irony Frost's tone takes in
this poem. This is one of Frost's earlier poems. The way Frost words this poem makes people feel
like there is a hidden life lesson within it. After doing the literal paraphrase I noticed that Frost plays
up on the fact that the reader's will feel like there was a hidden message within his poem so he
continues with the tone and idea of building up his decision. Frost decides to build up the excitement
and experience years after he "took the one less traveled by" to make it seem as if that was the
reason he is where he is today. From the beginning of the poem to the end of it, the decision to take
that road changes in not only an ironic way, but also a contradicting way, having the reader feel like
it was not that big of a decision, to having the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The irony of Frost saying that the paths were practically the same in the 1–3rd stanza, and then to go
and say that it was such a great decision makes the reader feel confused as to how that description
could have changed so drastically throughout the years. This ties back with the beginning of this
essay when I stated that Frost worded this pome in a way that makes his reader's feel as if he gained
wisdom, and a life experience from taking the path he took that morning, although he knows it was
just another path. Frost continues throughout the poem with the contradictions of saying the paths
are different, and then stating that they are practically the same until he felt that saying the path he
took was completely different to get the reader wondering what that path offered and what
difference it made in his life for the sake of telling a

Life is made of decisions. In The road not taken, Robert Frost emphasizes the importance of
different decisions and how those choices impact peoples' life. The text examines the struggle
people run into when comes a time of their lives that they need to make an important choice,
regarding their future. The author define the idea of individualism as a self–evaluation that we
practice when we make choices that construct our lives. Accordingly, the main message of the poem
is the importance of our lives choices. The author finds himself in doubt of taking two roads. The
two roads, represent the difficulty that we face in our lives, in which for many times, people get
scared to take the risks or make the wrong choice. The reason is that, when people

In Robert Frost's poem, "The Road Not Taken," literary devices create meaning. The theme of this
poem is making choices and is shown through the author's use of symbolism, imagery, and
metaphors. The main symbol in this poem is the two paths that the speaker arrives at during his
walk. These paths are described two times in this poem, once at the beginning and once at the end,
using the line, "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood". The fork in the path symbolizes the choices
you have to make in life. The second literary device that helps to create meaning in this poem is
visual imagery. These lines from the passage help describe the two paths: "Because it was grassy

Nature of the Crisis
The movie that I chose to review is entitled "Taken", which stars actor Liam Neeson as he plays the
part of Bryan Mills. The "crisis" of the movie is that Mills' daughter is abducted, drugged, and sold
into sexual slavery. Mills, who is a former government operative, begins the longest 96 hours of his
life, as he hunts for the gruesome organization that has taken his daughter Kim. Mills ... Show more

Before he electrocutes the last abductor, Mills finds out that Amanda has died from being shot up
with drugs, and his daughter is about to be sold, as a virgin, for $500,000.00. Mills then tracks down
his daughter's buyers, kills them, and then fulfills the promise he made during the abduction to
rescue Kim. Mills then returns Kim to her mother and step–father in the United States.
Steps for Alleviating the Crisis
Mills remained surprisingly calm and focused throughout the ordeal. This was most likely do to the
training and background that he came from. Given the fact that Mills learned from his contacts, that
these abductors are able to make these girls disappear within 96 hours, he moved very quickly. I
would have recommended that Mills get the local police involved, but in reality he was much more
qualified to work this particular crime. Mills did attempt to illicit the help of his old government
contacts while in Paris, only to find out that they were involved in the girl smuggling. Mills was able
to quickly refocus his attention from an intense fear to a passionate search, due to the fact that he
was trained to handle stress. I would have recommended that Mills take one of his close
friends/colleagues, from the U.S., with him, as he could have greatly benefited from the colleagues'
support during those trying times. Instead, Mills worked completely alone. I would have also
recommended that Mills

Luiza De Vasconcelos
It takes a lot to find the real meaning in a book or piece of text; or does it? Sometimes finding the
thesis of a piece of text is as easy as just reading the text once or maybe twice. For example, The
Road Not Taken by Robert Frost has a lot more meaning than the literal meaning. An important
topic in this piece of poetry is choosing your path. The author is taking himself on a journey, and
this poem shows his struggles as he tries to find out what he wants to do and where he wants to go.
It shows how choosing your life is not easy because you see a clear path of what other people are
doing, but you know that is not who you are. The strongest piece of evidence to support this theory

The poem is named after the path that was ultimately not chosen, leaving the reader to believe to
think it was written with regret. In stanza 4 the regret is brought to light with a metrical device.
"Sigh" is an onomatopoeia that emphasizes the characters regret or relief. That one word makes the
reader want to go back and reread the poem to make sure the theme is understood. The traveler is
either regretting his decision that he made or he is relieved that he made the best choice for himself.
It is left up to the reader's interpretation to discover what the poet was trying to say. Some other
metrical devices used are imagery, symbolism, personification, rhyming, alliteration, and allegory.
The reader is presented with imagery in "two roads diverged in a yellow wood" and again in "And
both that morning equally lay in leaves no step had trodden black". This gives the reader something
to visualize. Personification is used in "because it was grassy and wanted wear." A road cannot
produce a feeling to want wear. The rhyme scheme of ABAAB in this poem produces interest and
makes for an entertaining read. Alliteration is used when the poet writes "wanted wear". Allegory
presents itself when the poet writes about the two paths when his ulterior message is about choices.
All of the devices used in the poem support the poets overall theme. Out of all of the "roads" faced
in life the roads not chosen to take have just as much impact as the roads that are chosen.

"The Road Not Taken", by Robert Frost, which deals with decision making, a concept that can be
inferred from the title. The poem begins by describing the setting, a forest in which there are two

speaker then moves on to speak about how they chose the road that seemed less traveled by. They
then finish by saying that as they think forward to when they are on their deathbed they do not
believe they will regret this decision. In reality, the forest in the poem is not an actual forest but a
symbol for a decision that must be made. By the describing the setting in a way that gives off an
uncertain feeling, Frost manages to mirror how decisions also bring

  • 1. Taken I chose to analyze a film called Taken which was written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen. It was directed by Pierre Morel and released in 2008. This movie is a thriller with the sub genres of crime, action and drama. The main character is Kim, who is seventeen and goes to Paris with her friend, who is nineteen, and gets captured while talking on the phone with her father. Her father is an ex government employee. He uses his intelligence to pinpoint her location by recording the conversation. The action in the film is based around his battle with the people that were involved in the kidnapping of his daughter. He later finds her being prostituted to a pimp. The kidnappers try to hide her from her father as he fights to find her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brian is a character which the audience can relate to as he has many sides to him and that he is a lonely man, divorced from the mother of his daughter. He is often confined in his dark apartment where he sits glancing at photos of his beloved daughter. The audience begins to feel sorry for his character because they can emphasize with his feelings; For example when he goes to his daughter's birthday even though he wasn't allowed. His behavior around those who have rejected him seem very forced and desperate. In the action part of the film he does not have many weaknesses because of his previous job but this is a contrast between his softer sides. However, how much he loves his daughter is seen as a weakness by the enemy and leaves him vulnerable, this leads to him getting hurt while trying to fight off the people who have his daughter. An enigma was created around the character from the beginning of the film as he spoke to his daughter's kidnapper he says, "I have a various set of skills that I have acquired from a long career". These skills are not seen until later in the film when he uses his forensic skills to locate his daughter but this alerts the audience that this man is not normal. One ... • 3. The Road Not Taken The Road Not Taken By: Robert Frost Imagine that your making a decision and you are stuck to choose between two things that could change and impact your life greatly. What would you do? What pathway would you take? Robert Frost wrote 'The Road Not Taken' in 1916 at the age of 42 in New England, Massachusetts. 'The Road Not Taken' is one of his most popular works due to the ideology of choices that people would have to face in their life. In the early 20th century, Robert Frost based the majority of his poems from rural life in New England, where he grew up. Robert Frost was highly regarded for his deep, realistic understanding of rural life and using elaborate social and philosophical themes in his works. This poem explores a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the second stanza, the traveller is describing that both pathways are equally the same through the used of extended metaphors, personification and metaphors. On third stanza, the poet is providing additional information on the season by "And both that morning equally lay, in leaves no step had trodden black". This imagery of the season autumn symbolises the perfect layers of yellow leaves on the path as for a long period of time no one has walked on it yet. On third line, onomatopoeia was used which is "oh" that illustrates an emphatic tone for the decision that he made. The traveller is now regretting the decision that he made. On the last two lines, an extended metaphor was used, "Yet knowing how way leads on to way", "I doubted if I should ever come back". These last two lines of the third stanza, heightens the attention of readers that he hopes that he could try the other path as the traveller knows 'how one road can lead to another'. Also, the traveller is having doubts as it is impossible to retrace steps as other choices or decisions can lead to other options in life. The third stanza raises the awareness to readers as he decided to stick with the decision that he made but still with a bit of regrets. The last stanza, Robert Frost uses a number of poetic techniques, in order to demonstrate the fear and regrets as he already made which path to go and now, there's no turning back. In the first line onomatopoeia was used and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Road Not Taken The poem my group and I chose to annotate was Robert Frosts "The Road Not Taken". We chose this poem because it is one of the most widely recognized poems of all time. The assignment was a bit complex in my opinion, especially when it came to part two the write up part. Part 1 was a good experience being that it was a group assignment. I had a fantastic team, and we each shared a part in annotating the poem. We each had a role in the annotation of the poem, we took two parts of speech each to identify in the poem and we rotated roles as well. The difficult part was trying to identify main verbs from adverbs, and adverbs from adjective. In our poem, we managed to find all the parts of speech listed that we have been working with over the last few weeks of class. The poem yet simple as it seems, it is a bit more complex than it appears to be. It poem uses symbolism and metaphors, the ability to say one thing and mean another. The poem has four stanzas, twenty lines, three sentences and it uses simple words but has a complex structure. The poem uses the metaphor of a path that can be compared to life, and a similar path that represents choice. Both paths appear to be tempting to the speaker in the second line ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I especially had a difficult time figuring out the complex sentences. The first sentence in the poem is a bit long, it is about twelve lines and I did not know one sentence could be that long and still be considered a sentence. It took me a while to dissect and really get the understanding of the poem itself. Stanzas 1 and 2 were the most difficult structures to mark. The hardest part of speech to identify was the adverbs when doing this activity/ assignment. Adverbs and adjective identification can sometimes be difficult, but in this particular poem, it was the main verb and adverbs. In the first line of stanza one, "diverged" was a word I was not sure if I it was a main verb or an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Taken By Pierre Morel The movie Taken, directed by Pierre Morel, illustrates how young girls are often targeted and fall victim to sex trafficking. Kim, a seventeen year old female, goes to Paris with her friend Amanda with the intention of spending a nice vacation together (Besson, 2009). Despite the fact that Kim's father, Bryan, does not feel comfortable with the idea of the girls' vacation, Kim disregards his concerns and proceeds to go anyway. Unfortunately, on the first day of the vacation, Kim and Amanda are kidnapped by a group of Albanian sex traffickers. Kim's father, a retired CIA agent, quickly finds a way to rescue his daughter by using his professional skills. In the process of trying to find Kim, the retired CIA agent is also faced with the shocking realities of the sex trafficking market. This movie illustrates how young girls are especially vulnerable to kidnapping and sex trafficking and how important a parent or loved one's resilience is to help these victims. ... Bryan portrays a father who will do whatever it takes to protect and keep his only daughter safe. As soon as Kim notified him about her friend Amanda being taken and that there was a great possibility that the same thing would happen to her, Bryan immediately stepped into action. He became proactive by covering any loose ends, asking her questions, and recording previous phone conversations with the traffickers. This was a key strategy he used to pick up any clues as to where Kim was to ensure her safety. Unlike Bryan, Kim's mother, Lenore, was less proactive and vulnerable. She did not show resilience after being told that her daughter was taken. Instead, she cried and relied on Bryan to find Kim and bring her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Diction is the poet 's choice of words to create meaning based on the denotation and connotation of any given word. The word "sorry" in the "and sorry I could not travel both" (2) has a strong meaning of regret; it shows that the persona was regretful before he even made the choice. He knows that he can only choose one or the other. Then, the word "sigh" in the "I shall be telling this with a sigh" (16) expresses regretful and sadness. The persona tells his decision he made at the past time with a facial expression of regret. Next, the word "difference" in the "and that has made all the difference" (20) has a meaning of changing in his life. From the poetry devices, we can see the literariness and the meaning of the poem. The choice that the persona made in front of the two diverging roads impacts the rest of his journey. Same as the persona, people are just like that traveler, traveling on the journey of life. This is called an 'archetype.' This is seen to shape the behaviour, belief, and identity of an individual and community. • 15. The Road Not Taken Robert Frost's, "The Road Not Taken", addresses challenges every human must face. The poem describes a man in the woods who has come upon two trails. The man is faced with a decision. The poem explains that the paths look very similar, but each leads to a different outcome. The poem is a direct represents facing or two choices. Choices define people. Frost sheds light on the difficulty and curiosity that comes with making decisions and how people will allow pre–determined regret to affect the choices they make. (Secondary source) The traveler studies the paths, looking down each as far as he can. After noticing the trails are quite similar, he takes one. He states that he would save the other trail for another day, yet he knows that trails lead to more trails, and he doubts that he will ever come back. When Frost writes, "And sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could" (lines 1–3). It describes a problem all people must face: making decisions without knowing exactly where those decisions will lead. Much like the man in the poem, people want to know as much as possible about both options; still, however, knowing they can only choose one. Zeelenberg concludes, "... people are motivated to make choices that shield them from threatening feedback on foregone courses of action. Thus, people are motivated to avoid post– decisional regret. This regret aversion has a profound influence on their decisions, because the possibility of regret is anticipated and subsequently taken into account when making decisions" (101). This means that people use the fear of regret to determine their choices. They want to learn everything they can about the two choices so they do not end up regretting the choice they made. • 17. The Road Not Taken In Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken" he uses imagery of the road to represent choices. This poem's lesson can be used in life every day. The first stanza represents the idea that life has choices, the second and third stanzas represent the good and bad of the choices we make, and the persona of the poem chooses the harder choice that wanted wear. First, life has choices. Every day we have to make choices. Whether it be what to wear or what to eat for breakfast. Those are not very important choices. An important choice would be which college to attend or what you decide you want your job to be. As with the persona in the poem, we "cannot go in both directions" (Lee 11). • 19. The Road Not Taken The poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, is a poem that has many meanings depending on the reader. The poem was published in 1916 and it is a very interesting poem. It's a fairly short poem consisting of only 20 lines, and it is full of metaphors and imagery and it has many ways that it can be interpreted. The poem's use of imagery leaves the reader trying to figure out what Frost meant when he wrote the poem. Since it is a poem, it generally has no correct way to interpret it, but it usually has a similar meaning for everyone. This is my analysis of "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost. "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood", since leaves change colors in the fall they could be yellow and orange, but It could also be a type of tree, or just the appearance from the morning sunrise. The speaker stands where the two roads diverge because the speaker of the poem is the traveler. I believe that the poem is just one big metaphor for life and the choices along the way. The paths are the different decision that are made along the way. No path is the right path, each person gets to go their own way through life. "one traveler" shows that the choice is only for that one individual, no one else has a say and that he is alone in this journey. The roads diverging are symbol for 2 different ways that your life can go, and one choice can make the difference between what happens in life. I think the roads are also symbols of the choices you make throughout life. That it's one or the other, and not both. You can experience one path and dream about what the 2nd road would have been like. The poem has multiple themes. I found a few possible themes including: life, choices, and regret are all possible themes I thought of. The themes life, and choices appear to be the biggest themes throughout it. The theme of regret appears towards the end of the poem with the line, "I shall be telling this with a sigh." This makes me think that he regrets the decision he made to follow one road, and that he missed an opportunity for the other road, he wonders of what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Road Not Taken In Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken," the narrator of the poem analyzes his situation thoroughly prior to choosing his path. His process can be seen in several lines of the poem. For example, his decision begins, "And be one traveler, long I stood." Similar to making any life altering decision, the narrator takes time rather than rushing in to his path. He weighs the options of each path (decision) as he "looked down one as far as [he] could...Then took the other, as just as fair." Upon realizing how long each path is, the narrator realizes that once a decision has been made, it will be too late to come back for the second option, "Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back." • 25. The Road Not Taken In Robert Frost's poem, "The Road Not Taken," we are never told specifically who the speaker is. When reading this poem, most people automatically assume that it is being told from a guy's perspective, but we have no indication of that being true. The only information that we are given is that he or she is in the woods, and has to make a decision on which path to take. He or she has come to a crossroads, and the path's are splitting. Not knowing what stage of life he or she is in, there is a possibility that once the decision is made, there will be no time to turn back. In stanza four, the speaker tells us how he will be talking about his decision in the future, saying it made a big difference in his life. With that being said, it must be a major decision whereas, a simple everyday decision. We can assume that the speaker is a nature lover and is very spontaneous. The speaker automatically starts off with a metaphor. Once we continue reading on through the second stanza, we see that the roads are being compared to a choice having to be made. We are also given plenty of imagery. For example, we know that the woods are yellow. This means that it must be around the time of fall, and the leaves are beginning to change. In line eight, the speaker tells us that one path appears more green and grassy than the other. Also, in stanza three, along the way of their chosen path, he or she fell asleep. The speaker wakes up telling us that it is morning, and it appeared that no steps had been made on their path chosen. Personification is also a device used throughout this poem. In line eight, the speaker describes the path as, "grassy and wanted wear." Using the word "wanted" gives the path a sort of a human like characteristic. This is also an example of an ... • 27. Taken For Granted Throughout time, what comes too easy for us is usually taken for granted. What we take for granted is trust we receive from a friend, a gift from a loved one, or power to help people are usually given freely. One such example that we can see in history is when Winston Churchill abused his freely given power when controlling a British army. With his stubbornness and power, that army was led to their destruction. To a lesser degree, people like me have taken some items for granted. What we esteem too cheap, we esteem to lightly which can be seen to be true with myself, my friend and my cousin. When I was younger, my father decided to give to me his old Game Boy. When he gave it to me, I played with it every day. One day I left it where I had played it last. When I returned the next day, I discover that it was gone. I was upset for a long period but earlier last year, we found it in our shed. To this day, I am taking better care of it and I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He told me he wished that he left it in a higher place so his little brother would have no chance of breaking it. In the future if people continue to abuse what has been given to them freely there will be no ground for any respect. Several people today believe that if something happens to a certain item they can just get a new one. These such items are phones, gaming consoles, or any other object given freely. People in this generation fail to see that even though we get things freely does not mean the objects that have an emotional factor cannot be replaced; once it is gone or broken, it is gone ... The media was very influential in the rising disapproval of Carter. Everyday Americans were reminded that the hostages were still being held because of Carters unsuccessful attempts at freeing them. Farber also writes about the media in Iran. Controlled by Russia, Iran media was loaded with anti–American propaganda that only fueled Iranians hatred towards the American government. Farber deeply discussed the American and Iranian reactions to the crisis. Americans started to pay more and more attention to the news media. The longer the hostages were held, the more people disapproved of Carter. Americans hung yellow ribbons everywhere throughout the country to show support of the hostages. Iranian students at U.S. universities held protests at schools and outside of the White House demanding for the return of the Shah as well as requesting the freeze on Iranian assets to be released. Farber describes the Iranian students plan for the hostage. What turned into a 444–day hostage was meant to only be a three–day sit–in. However with President ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is considered poetry because of its structure. It has a distinct numbered group of lines in verse normally called stanza. The structure used in Robert Frost poem varies with different types of poetry and can be seen in the structural elements that it includes the line, couplet, and stanza. It is a straight forward series of five line stanzas and each stanza presents a single idea. Its form is a traditional poetry which is iambic pentameter, where each stanza has the same amount of lines. In the poem, it has five lines in every canto with twenty lines in all. This form of ... If I am twenty two now and whatever road I take will probably impact my life as I reach thirty. "The Road Not Taken" reminds us of the consequences of the principle of selection in all aspects of life, namely that all choices in knowledge or in action exclude many others and lead to an ironic recognitions of our achievements. There are three tenses of verbs used in the poem; the present, past, and future. The poem leads us to travel from present, going to the past after the present situation and directing us to the future. It started from a person who travels to take one road out of the two roads, going on to the experience of 'what' when the road to take was chosen and directs us to 'what' of next afterwards. In the final stanza, the use of the word 'shall' signals the change of tense to future, we hear a different story, one that will be told "with a sigh" or one that will set out a deep audible breath of weariness or sorrow and "ages and ages hence" which means sometime or somewhere a long time later . • 35. The Road Not Taken Robert Frost wrote the poem "The Road Not Taken" in 1915. This poem was a part of the collected poems. It was called the collected poems. The poem is about a man or a woman that is faced with a decision that could change their life. Even though he/she makes a decision he/she is not completely satisfied. And he/she soon realizes that they may have made the right decision. As the poem continues, there are an abundance of themes that develop. Perhaps one of the themes that develop is the circle of life. Everyone has to make decisions in their lifetime that will define who they are, one day as part of the circle of life that begins as a young person until as an older person, life comes to an end. • 37. The Road Not Taken The poem, "The Road Not Taken," by Robert Frost clearly demonstrates the use of the theme, growing up is a challenge for everyone. The narrator relates to people growing up by facing issues with making a decision he is uncertain about, and he ultimately regrets the choice he made. To begin, Frost writes "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both, And be one traveler, long I stood" (Frost 1–3). These lines of the poem are an analogy to a difficult decision the narrator had to make. As you can tell, he had two choices, not two roads precisely, and he was sorry he had to make this decision. This line supports the theme because part of growing up is being faced with a demanding problem where you ultimately make a choice. When you realize you have to choose, this leads to uncertainty. Continuing, the narrator elaborates on his issue by saying "Though as for that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within these lines, the narrator is hinting that both of these choices he had to choose from were alike. One was simply not better than the other to his eye. As much as he tried to compare them by their beauty and appeal, they were simply identical. This line supports the theme because when you make decisions in your youth, you realize that occasionally one choice isn't better than the other, which causes the uncertainty of your final decision. No matter the choice you make, when there is uncertainty, there will always be a hint of regret. Lastly, the narrator gives us a glimpse into his emotions by saying, "I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence" (Frost 16– 17). The author is foreshadowing that after the fact of choosing a path, he feels regret. He says he will be sighing when he tells this story, which gives us the idea that he isn't happy with the choice he made. The theme of the story can be proved by this because when growing up, there will regrets, especially when the decision is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are two paths that you have the option of taking but each one will lead to a different place. It shows that depending on your actions and what you choose to do, each path will lead to something different from the other. This poem also shows that there is a choice everyone makes. You can either make your own choice and follow your path or you can follow the path that everyone else takes and not be yourself. The story is often misremembered as the tale of an adventurer who chooses the path where fewer have been. Frost begins his poem with juxtaposing two roads diverging in a wood. He cannot see very far ahead on either path. The narrator is a quintessential nonconformist when he, theoretically, "choose[s] the one less traveled by." (14–15) The speaker never fully rules out taking the road less traveled, and never officially denies that he will come back. Yet, he admits to himself that one choice leads to another and most likely he will never journey back to the fork and be faced with the same decision. The speaker anticipates the regret he will feel when "telling this with a sigh" (16) based on his decision no matter which path he takes. But in the last stanza the speaker argues he should not feel any regret because it does not matter either way. The narrator says how he will someday look back and claim "with a sigh" that choosing the "one less traveled ... made all the difference." He knows that he will comfort himself by saying that the choices he has made have lead to the place he is in his life, when, in reality, his position is a combination of his choices and chance. He knows that his choice was really arbitrary, and his destiny will likely not be impacted his outcome either way. In this last stanza, the speaker acknowledges the stereotype of the ... Never giving up is important in sports as you can always come back and win. In light of all my reasons I chose to play a full–time summer sport, travel softball, instead of going on family vacations. Factors such as Morals, background, reward, and how personal it is contributes to how far the person is willing to go. Are there limits that a person would self–impose to right a wrong? A person's background can have a huge effect on the actions of an individual. If a recluse loses his daughter he will most likely not go as far as a retired soldier simply because he doesn't have the training or experience. In Taken, Bryan Mills (retired spy) has his daughter stolen by criminals, which causes him to torture and kill anybody who has information on his daughter's location (Taken Pierre Morel). Bryan a formal soldier has training and experience on torturing and killing to get what he wants, allowing himself to take matters into his own hands instead of relying on the police to do it. Having a background on a subject means the same thing as experience. Edward Dolnick said, "Though Hill disliked and distrusted Ulving, he had no doubt that he could win them over (pg.99). Hill would have not been able to "know that he could win them over" unless he had experience at winning people over like Ulving. • 55. The Road Not Taken The Path It is a fact of life that decisions must be made in order for a person to progress through life. One cannot simply make the decision to sit in an infinite state of neutrality. The simplest daily processes are decisions that have been made, whether they are conscious decisions or unconscious decisions. It does not matter if the decisions are right or wrong. That in itself is not important because right and wrong is entirely subjective. The only important motion in play is that a decision has been made. Here, the traveler excitedly expresses a decision to take the second path with intentions to return to and travel down the first; however, he quickly realizes that this is not a choice that his life will likely allow. As decisions go, life will rarely allow for a redo of sorts. It seems that the traveler did not anticipate coming to this fork in the road, but nevertheless he did. Reasonably, he has understood that he must take a path knowing that he will not return to the other path. One must use this logic when making the most difficult of decisions in life because it is reasonable to believe that choice is permanent. Decisions are simply that, decisions. The lesson and story learned from a decision is the most valuable piece of the puzzle of life. It is important never to forget the other choice that was not made. If one remembers the choice they made, they can help their loved ones navigate the rough waters of life. "I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence" (16–17). This is one of Frost's earlier poems. The way Frost words this poem makes people feel like there is a hidden life lesson within it. After doing the literal paraphrase I noticed that Frost plays up on the fact that the reader's will feel like there was a hidden message within his poem so he continues with the tone and idea of building up his decision. Frost decides to build up the excitement and experience years after he "took the one less traveled by" to make it seem as if that was the reason he is where he is today.
