• The concept of working for two
companies/organisations is referred to as
moonlighting.
• US Legal defines it as "a term used to
refer to holding a second job outside of
normal working hours."

• Moonlighting by employees
means that the full-time employee
of a company takes up an extra
job, usually without the
employer’s knowledge at night.
• Moonlighting is the practice of taking
up a second job or multiple other
work assignments apart from one’s
full-time job and typically without the
primary employer’s knowledge.
• Example one: a person who is a teacher
of a school during the day but runs a
tuition centre in evening
Moonlighting causing compliance
problems and much focus in recent
years as it has become common
among white-collar professionals
after work-from-home business
model introduction.

When employees find it difficult and fails
to manage two jobs in a day it is called as
blue moonlighting.
Failed efforts at moonlighting is called
blue moonlighting
When employees work for part-time after a
regular job it is called as quarter
moonlighting.

When employees spend more than 50
percent of their available time after
regular job in part-time job/additional job
is termed as half moonlighting
When employees work for two full-time
professions/jobs in parallel or build their own
business is termed as full moonlighting.
Employees social status is mostly determined
by their second occupation

recognize the moonlighting
among white-collar jobs.
Old school enterprise

  • 3. • The concept of working for two companies/organisations is referred to as moonlighting. • US Legal defines it as "a term used to refer to holding a second job outside of normal working hours." ©Dr. Madhavi Peddada, 2022All rights reserved 3 • Moonlighting by employees means that the full-time employee of a company takes up an extra job, usually without the employer’s knowledge at night. • Moonlighting is the practice of taking up a second job or multiple other work assignments apart from one’s full-time job and typically without the primary employer’s knowledge. • Example one: a person who is a teacher of a school during the day but runs a tuition centre in evening Moonlighting causing compliance problems and much focus in recent years as it has become common among white-collar professionals after work-from-home business model introduction. ©Dr. Madhavi Peddada, 2022All rights reserved

When employees spend more than 50 percent of their available time after regular job in part-time job/additional job is termed as half moonlighting When employees work for two full-time professions/jobs in parallel or build their own business is termed as full moonlighting. IT sectors: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, IBM, and Wipro opposed as they believe that workers would become distracted while juggling many tasks and considered it as unethical.

Old school enterprise prohibits moonlighting outwardly among its white- collar employees and views it as breach of trust.
