The panic over dengue has gone down bu cases are still being reported
On Thursday , the corpora tions said they have con firmed 1,832 cases
over the past week and five deaths.This takes the total num ber of
cases of the mosquito borne disease this season to 9,438. The number
of people who died due to dengue has gone up to 30, which is the
highest since 1996 when the disease had claimed more than 400 lives.
South Corpora tion has reported maximum (2,246) cases followed by
North (2,164) and East (1,228).
“The numbers may have reduced but dengue cases are still coming.
Our medicine ward is full of such patients,“ said a senior doctor at
Madan Mohan Malviya hospital in south Delhi.

Recently , the governmen started 55 fever clinics to man age the dengue
rush. It has also purchased 400 new beds to accommodate more
patients.“The beds will be placed in Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, Guru Teg
Bahadur Hospital and Ambedkar Hospital,“ a government official said.
Dr R K Singhal, chairman, internal medicine at B L K hospital, said dengue
cases are likely to continue till October. “People need not panic but they
must follow all preventive measures to check mosquito breeding in their
localities. On diagnosis, one has to be given enough fluids apart from
controlling fever, gastric and dehydration problems. If there are severe
symptoms, patient should be immediately rushed to hospital,“ he said.
Experts said the pre-dominance of virulent strains of dengue, type II and
type IV , has caused the outbreak this year.
