Health minister Satyendar Jain held a meeting with top health officials on
Monday to assess the action plan to check the spread of dengue in the city
.The mosquito-borne disease took epidemic proportions last year affecting
over 10,000 people. It claimed more than 40 lives. “Our aim is to prevent the
breeding of dengue-causing mosquitoes to prevent any crisis. The municipal
corporations have been asked to intensify dengue-breeding checks and
awareness initiatives for this,“ said a senior health official.
Dengue, termed by many experts as the world's most rapidly spreading
mosquito-borne viral disease, is caused by four serotypes. Type I and III are
milder in nature, which cause classic dengue fever and fever without shock,
respectively . Type II and IV , however, are considered deadly . These cause
fever, bleeding and drop in platelet count.
