A safe life for senior citizens in Mumbai.
In this project, we have given a problem statement to solve the problem of safety for senior citizen in Mumbai in any sector of your choice. So, we selected local trains transportation as a sector for safety of senior citizens in Mumbai. We have given the various solution to the problem through mind-mapping, six-thinking hats, stakeholders approach and red ocean & blue ocean.

4. We can also
do real time
observation.
How shall we
approach this
problem???
Let’s interact with
senior citizens
and try to know
about it…
Also, we can search
online and refer
newspaper articles.
5. In Mumbai there
are 1.79 million
seniors citizens.
Out of them,
almost 38,000
travel from local
trains daily.
There are normally 12
coaches in train and there are
14 seats reserved for them in
suburban train.
Though there were compartments
reserved for the physically-handicapped
and cancer patients, no such
arrangements have been made for
senior citizens.
No senior citizen, practically, is able
to avail the benefit of the seats
reserved for them in the general
second class compartment
6. What is the use
of reserved seats
if the elderly
can’t even enter
crowded local
trains.
Why government was
ignorant towards senior
citizen when they can
provide reserved
coaches for physically-
handicapped and cancer
patients.
Just like ladies have reserved
coaches, then why there is no
reserved coaches for senior
citizens?
We must have some
campaigns about this
just like other
campaigns so that
people will be aware
about it.
7. Let’s attach
extra special
coaches for
them.
Let’s use technology
to provide them
better travelling
experience by use of
escalators.
Special ticket
counters for them
which will avoid
standing in queues
for long.
Also, adding some
comfortability for them
in those coaches like
cushioned seats,
platform and coach floor
alignment etc.
8. Changing the
current physical
infrastructure
will take a lot of
time!
But special
trains for
seniors seems
impractical.
Managing people to avoid crowd
for seniors seems difficult.
This will take
much time for
people to accept
it.
As government will be
involved, that will result
in lots of legalities and
formalities.
9. Special
coaches for
them will
make them
travel
comfortably.
Escalators will
avoid their
physical
problem of
climbing.
Cushion seats
will be much
more
comfortable.
No longer queues, hence no
more standing & waiting due
to special counters.
12. MRVC’s Surplus for
F.Y. 2014-15 is 36.57
Cr. & Total Income is
63.81 Cr.
6 Escalators are going
to be installed in
Andheri as Govt. has
already funded in one
of other project.
Totally on Approx.
we will need 138 cr.
Escalators costs 18
to 20 lakhs each.
Total stations= 114
Platforms on each= 6
Total escalators= 684
(Approx.)
Also some railway
stations has started
implementing
Escalators.
Also for installing these
escalators & allotting
half coaches we will
need some more cost.
Project to be
implemented in
phases.
