3. Dispatch Inefficiencies
Even though there are around 37,000 taxis within the Greater KlangValley
surrounding Kuala Lumpur, existing taxi companies face severe challenges in
meeting daily passenger demand. On average, only one in four passenger
booking requests are successfully allocated a taxi and take an average of 30
minutes to fulfill. This can mainly be attributed to the various process
inefficiencies in the rudimentary CB radio dispatch systems. This ‘one-to-many’
broadcast system has been an unchanged industry standard for the past 15 years.
Passenger Safety Issues
Transportation regulations have kept taxi fares low, making taxis a relatively
affordable and widely used form of public transport in Kuala Lumpur.
Nonetheless, there are still several pain points in the taxi market that lead
passengers to think twice about taking a taxi in Kuala Lumpur. This is especially
true for females travelling on their own, and for anyone travelling alone at night.
This broad perception of safety concerns range from unwanted attention from
drivers (for female passengers) to robberies and incidents of rape in remote
locations. In 2008, “The Expat” magazine ranked Malaysian taxis last out of 23
countries surveyed.
4. To address the above issues, MyTeksi aims to develop an
automated smartphone booking and dispatch platform in 3
distinct phases. Phase 1 will focus on dispatch issues, helping
fleet operators manage their allocations more effectively
and efficiently. Phase 2 will focus on passenger safety and
booking issues, while Phase 3 will focus on allowing
passengers to book a taxi on-demand in multiple cities from
a single app.
5. A smartphone will replace the driver’s
existing CB radio as his primary dispatch
conduit. Leveraging recent developments in
GPS location based technology, MyTeksi’s
platform will be able to locate the nearest
available drivers for each booking request.
6. MyTeksi will develop smartphone apps across
the major platforms (i.e. iPhone & Android)
that enable passengers to book and
reconfirm taxis more efficiently.
7. MyTeksi will make the smartphone apps
location aware to enable passengers to book
taxis in multiple cities in Asia from a single
app.
8. Taxi Fleet Operators
MyTeksi offers a cost-effective technology
that provides a differentiating factor for
fleets, and a solution to the recent public and
government scrutiny due to the poor quality
and safety standards described above.
9. Taxi Drivers
The MyTeksi platform will enable drivers to
earn more money by sending more passenger
bookings their way by offering a more
transparent and efficient allocation
algorithm.
10. Passengers
Taxi users are primarily looking for greater
safety and convenience. MyTeksi hopes to
offer both e.g. Greater passenger
convenience will be achieved by reducing
booking cycles (from 30 to 10 min) and
delivering more successful allocations.
MyTeksi also increases safety perceptions by
enabling trackability.
11. We believe our solution will also bring
significant improvements to Malaysia’s
national productivity through improved taxi
allocations, and thus public transportation
efficiencies.
12. Our efforts have been specifically designed to
support our government’s KRA efforts to
improve the quality of our taxi services for
our fellow citizens in addition to external
perceptions from tourists and investors.
