Introduction

- Specific ideas as to how to carry out oral
  presentation activities using students-established
  evaluation criteria.

- Improve peer assessment activities for oral
  presentation in ES/FL classrooms.
Literature Review
- Popularity of peer-evaluation in EFL class gives the
   benefit of learners.
            Cheng & Warren,2005;Finch 2003
- A combination of teacher, peer and self evaluation
  seem to the most successful result.
         Bachman&Palmer,1989 ;Headley,2001

- Activity can foster intrinsic motivation and
  the language learner.
                        Frinch, 2003
Purposes of the study

• To make learners cognizant of oral presentation skill
  in English.
• To urge learners to think about the criteria form an
  effective presentation.
• To get learner more involved in the evaluation
  process from their peers and how it effects their
  own oral presentations.
ABSTRACT

•   304 undergraduate students
•   30 items questionnaire
•   Three factors as the major criteria for effective
       - clarity of speech
       - correctness of language
        - interaction with the audience

Participants

304 Undergraduate private university in Japan.
    Their several major as:
    Economics
    Business
    Engineer
    Administration
Research Method

• Explore what kinds of oral presentation by the
  students.
• An attitude survey was conducted, including 30
  items questionnaires.
• Principal components analysis using SPSS.
• The questionnaire was developed by the
  specialist.
• Each item was measured using 5 point Likert-type
Result

          30 Items of students’ attitudes
- Item 23 (A presentation should be given in a clear
  voiced) demonstrates the highest score and the
  most agree with.
- Item 28 (I don’t mind grammatical mistakes
  in presentation as long as the massage is clearly
  delivered to the audience) has the lowest score.
Discussion

           3 components were identified
- Factor 1 : Clarity of Speech and Voice Quality
- Factor 2 : Correctness of Language
- Factor 3 : Interaction with the audience
Conclusion

- As teachers,
        Prepare learners to be aware of the criteria.
        The effect they have on the efficacy of oral
  presentations in EFL classrooms.
- Peer evaluation can be a valuable method in Oral
  Presentations in EFL Classrooms
