The Negative Impact Of Social Media
As technology editing tools have become even more prevalent, many feel the need to excessively use photoshop before they share an image
online. In a pervasive world where images of unrealistic standards fuel the media on how one should look, social media has one of the most
significant impacts on body dissatisfaction in today's society. Throughout the last decade, social media has become one of the most common and
favored ways for people to communicate, connect, and share. Thus, there have been many debates and discussions on whether the media has a
positive or a negative impact on the way an individual perceives him or herself. As the rapid growth of smartphone usage among adolescents and
adults has increased, social media has become an essential part of one's daily life. Today, when most adolescents and adults turn on their smartphones,
often times, the first thing they will refer to is a social media site. It has become a place where they are exposed to news, images, and expectations.
Often times, these images, ideals, and expectations are ingrained in their brain and bombarded with what is considered to be beautiful in today's
society. Moreover, these unrealistic standards will often lead to a form of comparison, influencing them to take extreme measures. Although social
media serves as a platform where people can connect, communicate, and share, it has a negative impact on one's body image, because it can lead to a
lack of self confidence and severe health conditions.

Social Media Impact
Social Media and how it affects people's lives To begin with, Social media is used 96.6 percent in the world today from things like Facebook, and
twitter. Social media affects people by how, and what they use it for now a day. Social media has been in this world for many years, and many
different reasons from news, to communication, from games, and updating what they're doing in life like to Facebook, or to even twitter with it
having a major impact on society. Social media can also have a negative impact on people's lives. Social media has many negative impacts from false
sense of communication, and bullying, to even stress to a young teens life, or it just affecting the brain particles as a whole. "while many think that
social media have a positive outlook towards the way we think, others may argue that it has a negative or no correlation at all. Researchers Jesse Fleck
and Leigh–Migalski conducted a research project called The Impact of Social Media on Personal and Professional lives: An Adlerian Perspective to
inform about changes within both the professional and personal lives due to social media. Unfortunately the research resulted in social media having
a negative effect due to a higher ration of negative posts compared to positive posts"(Karran 3 of 6). But many other people believe that social media

Impact Of Social Class On Education
The impact of social class differences on education choices in higher education
The challenges that students from a working class background face in higher education.
This research will be designed to identify the inequalities that still exist in higher education and the barriers that broaden and reinforce social class
divide. It will examine the origins of the barriers and also investigate what could be done to minimise these in order to promote social equality.
Bourdieu's theory of cultural reproduction indicates that class inequalities has been legitimatised and the education system is facilitated by
possession of cultural capital and of higher class habitus which means failure of those students who do not possess these traits is inevitable
(Sullivan, 2002). The researcher will use the raw data to indicate the extent to which this theory is still valid. The research will also add value to the
already existing literature as it will heighten awareness that social class difference is a contributor in higher educational choices. It will also add to
the limited research carried out in this area and will impact on policy makers and the decision made on higher education. The research will benefit the
he academic and professional community. The main aims an objectives of the research are as follows:
пѓ This research will deepen understanding on how social class impacts on educational choices in higher education.

Social Media's Impact On Activism
"Tweeting is the New Bra Burning: Social Media's Impact on Activism Social media is often discredited as being a superficial waste of time, evidence
of the millennial generation's narcissistic tendencies and, in more extreme cases, a detriment to modern society. These statements are, to a certain
extent, valid. However, this mindset underestimates social media's potential, which extends beyond reconnecting with vaguely remembered
elementary school friends, or wishing loquacious old aunts in Wyoming "Happy Birthday". It is a platform in which an idea can be potentially spread
to thousands of people in mere milliseconds. Because of this, it has been utilized by activists, both on an individual and organizational level . By

The public discussion following the Rodger shooting may have reached millions of people, but can a collection of tweets make really make a dent
on cultural ideas that have been ingrained into the human psyche for thousands of years? The term "slacktivist" has been coined as describing
somebody who gives " token support for a cause like wearing a pin or 'liking' something on Facebook, without being willing to engage in more
meaningful support"(Essig). This, obviously, is a useless form of support and accomplishes little more than giving said "slacktivists" an inflated ego
for helping a "worthy cause". Change can only occur through action, and sitting at home liking pro–choice pages on Facebook just doesn't cut it .
However, action cannot exist without awareness. People can't get involved in a cause they know nothing about. When a hashtag like "YesAllWomen"
has been tweeted 3.2 million times (Chittal) it underscores sexism's existence to both men and women; people who previously were unaware of the

The Impact Of Social Stratification On Minorities
The impact on minorities due to inequality
Introduction
During the course of this class I have learned about social problems within the society
in which we live and around the world. It is disturbing to learn that poverty, social inequality, race and cultural discrimination, gender stratification,
environmental damage, population growth, and urbanization are among the social problems and controversial issues that still exist in the United States.
What is Social Stratification
Social stratification is defined as a system by which society ranks categories of people in a hierarchy. For example, There are fundamental principles
of stratification: slavery, caste, and class. The class system which is characterized by its social mobility social stratification is a characteristic of
society not because of individual differences, but because social stratification persists over generations.
Each of these groups is stratified into its own class; the group of people ranked most closely to them in property, power, and prestige. A person's
position in the stratification system affects everything about their life, from what they think and expect in life to how they see the world, as well as
what opportunities they will have access to. Although, your status is still assigned at birth, but you have the chance at upward social mobility based on
material possessions that you acquire, or things that you achieve. Or you may be on the other end of the spectrum and experience downward social

The Impact of Personalisation on Social Services in England; neoliberal cost cutting or service user empowerment? MSc Social Work 2nd Year
2014–15 SPOLM0035 – Social Work Studies 2 Student name: Jonathan Lealand Student number: JL13692 Word count: 4025 Introduction In 2004
David Miliband, then the Minister of State for School Standards, argued, "Personalisation reflects a model of service delivery that overcomes the
limitations of both paternalism and consumerism." (Miliband, 2004, p.11). In doing so he was adding his voice to a general political consensus
driving the reform of social services. These reforms known collectively as 'personalisation' ostensibly seek to expand service–user choice and
participation through a rethink of the role and relationship of social services, involving and empowering service users to take control of the services
they need. This style of service provision was in contrast to a social services provider model that had in the past been accused of being patriarchal and
offering a simple, one–size–fits–all service. However an alternate, competing explanation of the personalisation reform agenda also emerged. It
criticizes personalisation as a form of back–door commercialisation, driven not by need but by an increasingly neoliberal, political ideology of which
the primary aims are to cut costs and relieve the statutory services of responsibility for care. These two perspectives not only provide competing

Social Media And Its Impact On Society
Abstract
The amount of users in social media has increased in numbers over the years. The use of social media has been used throughout different industries
including collegiate sports. Over the years it has been seen to increase fan support and interactions, increase the numbers in ticket sales and help with
recruiting. Social media has even posed as a danger into hurting a brand throughout recent events.
Introduction
In today's society, social media has started to become popular. Over the past few years, social media outlets have sky rocketed. Facebook has more
than 900 million users now and Twitter recently topped over 140 million users (Medcalf, 2011). Social media has also played a major role in sports
with engaging the franchise or team with their fans and keeping them up to date with the latest news. However, professional sports teams, entities
and even collegiate sports programs have started to install a social media policy of some kind. Majority of the reason this is done is to protect and to
set a proper protocol in place.

Though the tweets were eventually deleted, it started to ruin Grambling's brand by bringing negative attention on to the Athletic Department

self–identity originates from our social interactions. Our sense of identity comes from how other people respond to us and from how we present
ourselves to others. Neuroscientists know that this process begins in infancy and continues throughout life. Yet, social interaction is undergoing
significant changes. This is partly due to changing social norms, but also to the use of social media. Facebook, Twitter, and online dating sites are
changing the way we see ourselves, our ability to influence how others see us, and the way we act as a result.
Research by neuroscientists has revealed a lot about the importance of social relationships of all kids. The reason humans developed social
relationships was probably because being social increased your chances of survival. Dr. Louis Cozzolino of Pepperdine University writes that, "Using
evolution as an organizing principle, we being with the assumption that our social brains have emerged during natural selection because being social

In order for future generations and today's youth to be better communicators, it's important that focus is returned to more face to face communications
instead of social media and texts. If the youth continue to use social media as a means to communication future generations will be less educated and
will not be prepared to enter the working world. Self–Esteem Communication barriers are not the only issue that has been brought on by social media.
Extensive social media use has also been known to affect a person's self–esteem. Some individuals suffer from a low self–esteem and limit themselves
to social media in hopes to create a different image of them. According to Charles Cooley, "The thing that moves us to pride or shame is not the mere
mechanical reflection of ourselves, but an imputed sentiment, the imagined effect of this reflection upon another's mind" (Morine, 2009). For some
teens and young adults, social media may help them open up and achieve a higher self–esteem. On the other hand, social media on other teens and
young adults may have a completely opposite effect. In an article titled, Is Facebook Making Your Child Depressed, it is stated that social media
websites such as Facebook "can create a skewed reality that makes teens feel alienated" (PR, 2012). When a person, that is not completely happy with
their life, goes onto social media and reads all about other people enjoying a multitude of activities and enjoying their lives this could

Social Media in the Business World Since the development of these various social media tools, companies have used they're development and

market. One of the primary reasons businesses utilize social media to market is because social media marketing reduces the cost of advertising.
With forums such as Facebook, companies have the opportunity to create a profile for their product or service and inform their target market
about what they are all about and the benefits of their product with out having to spend a dime. Social media marketing is one of the most cost
effective ways for a company to gain exposure and advertise a company. Social media also creates spreadability or exposure for a company among

Social And Social Impact On Social Media
Technology Leading to the Decline of Our Social Skills The rapid growth in our dependency on technology for communication has led to a large
decline in our basic social and interaction skills. One of the basic tenets of social psychology is that humans are social animals, however, in the
technological world of today we seem to be straying away from this facet of our nature. Ever since the rise of social media and convenience of
communication, for example, via mobile devices, we have fallen out of touch with an important part of our human nature, our desire to interact and
communicate with one another face–to–face, which has resulted in a large disconnect in our society. The negative social effects brought upon by our
dependency on social media has made it harder for humans to function in society. It is becoming increasingly difficult for our youth to make friends,
relationships have become harder to sustain, and the number of people feeling lonely as well as the prevalence of social disorders has increased. In
today's society, there are growing concerns about the ability of children and teenagers to maintain effective social interaction, such as face–to–face
conversation, and meeting new people without the use of any technology. Nowadays, direct communication for younger people is being replaced by
text messaging and instant messaging via Twitter, Facebook and the many other social media outlets available today. As a result, they rarely ever
engage in the face–to–face

The Impact Of Social Movements On Social Movement
Social movements shed light to social issues present in communities and harvest social change in political, religious, educational, health, government,

mostly through public protest and conversation, in order to promote social justice and democracy. Throughout history, humans naturally ended up
starting movements to simply improve their way of life and movements have continually aided in a remarkable change in communities. In the essay
"From Civil Rights to Megachurches," Charles Duhigg explains the three critical steps that initiative successful social movements. Social movements

a fresh sense of identity and a feeling of ownership," especially when users could easily share the hashtag along with his or her own views and ideas in

The Negative Impacts Of Social Media
Erik Qualman once said, "We don't have the choice on whether we do social media, the question is how well we do it." According to Merriam Webster,
social medias are forms of electronic communication through which people create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages,
etc. Certainly, most high schools students own more than one account on the Internet. Because younger generations have little understanding of social
medias, they are more likely to be controlled by the Internet. For instance, bad manners out there might take advantage of them. Nowadays, adolescents
are more likely to be on their phones rather than enjoy the sun out there. For this reason, teens are less experienced the state of being teenagers. Social
media has a huge impact on our future generations because it causes addiction, distraction, and depression.
First of all, one of the negative impacts of social media is addiction. Addiction is the state of being enslaved to something that is psychologically or
physically habit–forming. In fact, many teenagers are addicting to social media applications like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, ... .
Sometimes, teenagers are struggling to control their impulses and need help in managing their time of being active on social medias. Based on

Social Impact On Social Media
Social media has become a prominent part of life for many young people today. Most people engage with social media without stopping to think of
its influence on our lives, whether positive or negative. What will the long term effects of today's social media use be for our youth? Social media has
revolutionised how most of us communicate, especially regarding young people, even in the most remote Indigenous communities in Australia youth
culture is being reshaped through digital technologies. Young people are provided with a range of positive opportunities to maintain social
connections and support via online social networks as well as learning and participating with a multitude of interests. Along with these opportunities
there are also risks associated with social media such as social isolation or loss of privacy as well as cyberbullying and self–esteem pressures. We need
to develop the opportunities offered by digital and social media to promote learning and wellbeing for our youth that is inclusive of young people's
input and ideas. White, Wyn and Robards (2017) refer to a generational approach of understanding how each generation of young people engage with
their circumstances providing a framework for understanding youth culture as an expression of generational preoccupations and dispositions and

How is Social networking linked with professionalism???
As we step into the professional life from academic, there are certain things which we need to build or change in order to prove as a best candidate.
One among them to build is setting up a profile in social networking sites which are really meant for professional activities. Since employers are
looking for the best suited candidates, they started using the advent of internet and social networking sites. At present I think that LinkedIn is acting as a
great source for HRs to find their candidates. In fact, 83% of recruiters used or planned to use social media as a platform to hire new employees

However, despite several efforts, unfortunately we cannot have a lot of expectations from start–ups industry, in particular high–tech ones, because of
the lack, all over Europe and not only in Italy, of an effective venture capital market that constitutes, so far, the essential fuel for this sector. While in

policy–making practices which affects all spheres of the world. Some critics of neoliberalism perceive it as a social, economic and political movement
through lenses that reach beyond the popular narrative of the system: it is engrained in our law and culture. Two of these critical perspectives are the
Neo–Marxist and Neo–Foucaultian schools of analysis. Addressing the relevance of the social impacts of Neoliberalism explored by these analyses is
essential to observe its intersection with legal applications, which have ensured many social harms that are purposely hidden from the public eye

The period was followed by the Great Depression of the 1930s, which led the economist John Maynard Keynes to his theory that challenged the notion
of liberalism as the best policy for capitalists. In essence, Keynes claimed that full employment is necessary for capitalism to grow, and this can only
be achieved if governments and central banks intervene to increase employment. In fact, these ideas contributed greatly to an improvement in the
quality of life for many. Consequently, the belief that the government should advance for the "common good" became widely accepted. However, the
capitalist crisis we have experienced over the past decades and its shrinking profit rates inspired a new rising corporate elite to revive economic
liberalism and self–determination policies. One observes, then, the upsurge of a "neo" system that agglomerated economics and social policies more
noticeably. Soon enough, through a new narrative of "freedom" and "individualism," Neoliberalism would take a global scale and would make its
entering into the law in a more pervasive and exclusive manner than ever

Social And Social Impact On Social Media
It has been suggested that people use social media sites, consciously or unconsciously, (Haferkamp & Kramer, 2011) as a basis for social comparative
functions, such as self–evaluation (Festinger, 1954). Individuals usually compare themselves with others on various characteristics such as
popularity, appearance, and success (Feinstein, Hershenberg, Bhatia, Latack, Meuwly, & Davila, 2013). When information is acquired of others,
people will compare themselves to others (Mussweiler, Ruter, & Epstude, 2006). According to Wood (1989), social comparison is not in itself
problematic. However, little research has been found that examines the social comparison behavior on social media (Lee, 2014). Facebook is an
important place and tool for social life among college students (Boyd, 2007). On average, college students have a minimum of 358 friends, with most
spending their time reading the content of other people's pages (Pempek, Yermolayeva, & Calvert, 2009). The frequent use among Facebook users
that are college students implies that they are likely to engage in social comparison on Facebook (Lee, 2014). There have been few studies that have
examined a person's psychological characteristics (e.g. self–esteem, depression, and self–consciousness) and Facebook use (citations). In a previous
study conducted by Lee (2014) on how college students compare themselves with others on Facebook, there was a negative relationship between social
comparison frequency and self–esteem. However,

The Impact Of Social Media On Social Movements
Social Media in Social Movements The article How the Bundys' social media machine fed their political movement by Lindsey Bever on The
Washington Post discusses how social media was a driving force in the Bundys' Occupation of the Oregon Wildlife Sanctuary (2016). The Bundys'
used social media to communicate with their followers and as a call to arms in times of need. In addition, they used social media to promote their
cause, to support local ranching and lessen the government's possession of land. In the article, communications professor Phil Howard states, "It's
very difficult to have a modern political movement without a social media strategy" to emphasize the influence of social media in social
movements. After a lull in social media activity, the Bundys came back to protest the prosecution of Dwight and Steven Hammond, who were
ranchers who committed acts of arson on public land in 2012 (Bever, 2016). This lead them to react and occupy a building on a wildlife sanctuary in
Oregon. After a period of time, the F.B.I. stepped in to shut down the occupation of the wildlife sanctuary, this lead to the arrests of many members
and the death of one, LaVoy Finicum. After Finicum was shot, his daughter used Facebook to confirm his death. Fearing a raid, later a man used
Finicum's YouTube channel to also announce his death and make another call to arms. Finally, they used social media to issue a stand down. The
usage of social media was near imperative to the Bundys' cause and

Negative Impact On Social Media
The use of technology and social media has become very prevalent in the 21st century. Almost everyone in the United States owns some kind of
social media account. According to Statista.com, "In 2017, 81 percent of U.S. Americans had a social media profile, representing a five percent
growth compared to the previous year." While the number of users increases every year, it seems as though the number of people who prefer to live
in the "virtual world" also increases. I believe that social media sites create isolation for all individuals. There are so many distractions on these sites
that most people cannot even focus on the present. These sites also provide an illusion of companionship. While many believe they are finding their
"soulmates" online, in reality they are only living in a fantasy. A person's self–image is also affected by social media. Some believe that all the "likes"
and "comments" can boost self–confidence, but if you are not receiving any of these things, then what is the point. Social media has drastically
changed our ability to stay focused on what is going on in our immediate vicinity. Students are religiously connecting themselves to these sites and are
continuously signing online to check their status, some could even say that they are addicted. Even while in class, students are on their laptops or
smartphones and spend the majority of their time checking their 'home page' and partially (if at all) listening to the lecture of their teachers. The partial

Social Isolation And Its Impact On Social Capital
Social Isolation and Its Impact on Social Capital The "surprising" finding of Rankin and Quane does to an extent show the limits of previous
research, such as Putnam, on social isolation, because it does not take into consideration economic and race. Although, Rankin and Quane findings
show high levels of engagement among people in poorer neighborhoods the findings are not significant enough to change the notion that social
capital is eroding and therefore it is increasing social isolation amongst Americans. In this essay I'm going to talk about how Rankin and Quane
findings actually correlate with Putnam's and other author point of view on the erosion of social capital. Some of the examples we will be looking
into is the effect Mothers have on social capital, the loss of trust amongst Americans, Lack of Network communication, Effects that trust,
reciprocation, and obligation have on social isolation and social capital. Social isolation plays a big role in social capital, economic status and race.
Social isolation refers to "the lack of contact or of sustained interaction with individuals and institutions that represent mainstream society ' ' (Wilson
qtd Rankin & Quane 4). Rankin and Quane believed that African Americans who are from poor families lacked connections with "successful" people
and therefore were socially isolated. This is because they were not associated with people who finished college or people who had a stable job. This
affects social capital

Social Media And Its Impacts On Communication
Social Media, and its Impacts on Communication and Interaction in our Society Introduction The introduction and the spread of the Internet have
revolutionized the way individuals communicate and interact with each other. According to Van and Thomas, propagation of this medium of
interaction or communication makes it unimaginable to remember that only a few decades back when people had to wait for days, weeks or even
months to receive letters from their friends, relatives, or various agencies (3). Today, the internet has made communication quick and cost–effective for
most of the people. The latest innovation or by–product from the web is social media. There are various social media platforms, which individuals find

Benefits of Social Media Social media allow persons from all over the world to remain contact and communicate with their friends, family, at the
same time make new connections. As stated by Amedie, social media sites are known for allowing people to make new connections with people
who share similar interests, creating new relationships, and people end up being good friends (4). In fact, people create groups that accommodate
subscribers who have similar interests or life goals where they assist each other. Again, there are friends or family members who are a thousand
miles away; and through the use of social sites, it is easy to often communicate with them, increasing intimacy at a reduced cost. Furthermore, social
networks have encouraged the users to come up with an online persona, which establishes a personal network of friends who connect to an open
worldwide community. Social media also allows the sharing of valuable information among individuals around the world. Most of the social media
sites incorporate instant messaging features where people exchange or share information via the chat (Amedie 5). Apparently, people don't need to
buy or turn newspapers to stay informed on the current issues. Considerably, social media has increased the speed at which the news spread and reach
out to the public all over the world. Various media houses have partnered with social platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, or Twitter to collect and

Environmental And Social Impacts Of New And Remanufactured...
3. Results and discussion
In this section the proposed approach is applied to a case study. In the case study, environmental and social impacts of new and remanufactured diesel
engines are assessed.
3.1 Goal definition, scoping and functional unit
The engines are produced and used in China. Each engine consists of 277 components made of cast iron, steel, aluminium, steel alloy and rubber. The
major components are cylinder block, cylinder head, fly wheel housing, gear box, connection rod, crankshaft, and flywheel. Those components account
for 66% of the engine mass.
The system boundary for the new engine includes steel production, cast iron production, aluminium production, electricity production, engine
manufacturing and assembly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The functional unit of the study is 300,000 km travelled by the diesel engine. The fuel efficiency of the engine is 0.250 litres per km. It is assumed
that the fuel efficiency of both engines is equal.
3.2 Life cycle inventory
In order to estimate the amount of resources required and emissions released to produce steel, cast iron, and aluminium, inventory data published by
[11] is utilized. To compute emissions released by electricity production, China's electricity generation life cycle inventory found in [12] is used. To
calculate resources consumed and emissions produced due to diesel fuel refinery and combustion, data presented in [13] and [14] are applied.
For the social aspect, based on the information provided by the manufacturer, data summarized in Table 1 is obtained. Note that Rmfg stands for
remanufactured. For the use phase, cost incurred due to diesel fuel consumption is calculated as the following, 300,000 km Г— 0.25 litre/km Г—
7.724 CNY/litre = 579,315 CNY. 7.72 CNY/litre was the average price of diesel fuel in China in 2013. CNY stands for Chinese Yuan, the currency of
China. In order to estimate the portion of value–added in the form of employee compensation in China (VAchina) over the life cycle of the diesel
engines, China's EIO table (42 sectors) for the year of 2007 is used [15]. Since the economic data is in terms of 2013 CNY then we convert them to
2007 CNY by using China's GDP deflators, 130.768

The Impact Of Social Class On The Titanic

The popular representation of the impact of social class on survival rates of passenger of the Titanic somewhat accurately reflect history. The clear
division of social classes onboard Titanic is an accurate reflection of the hierarchical based social system which was present in England in 1910. Social
class played a big part in determining the consequence of the sinking for the individuals onboard the Titanic, as the conditions on the ship worked
against the likelihood of lower class survival. 62 % of the survivors were first class with 97% of the women in first class surviving and all of the
children in first class surviving. 33% of men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to a variety of both physical and social barriers, such as language, location on the ship and lack of warning, the middle class and lower class
suffered extreme losses whilst the upper class did not. This was also because of the social mindset at the time, as due to the class system, the upper
class passengers were awakened before the lower, as the class system placed a higher value on upper–class people than lower–class. This was a
subconscious manifestation of the cultural and social setting of the time; and one that adhered dot the social etiquette of the time. First class
passengers were awoken first and were given time to change, as their stewards provided hands–on assistance. Whereas when it came to waking the

The Negative Impact Of Social Media
As technology editing tools have become easier to use, many people have felt obligated to go on a photoshop epidemic every time they share an
image to the world of social media. In a pervasive world where images of unrealistic standards fuel over the media on how one should look, social
media has one of the most significant impacts in body dissatisfaction in today's society. Throughout the last decade, social media has become one of
the most common and favored ways for people to communicate, connect, and share. Thus, there have been many debates and discussions on
whether social media has a positive or a negative impact in the way an individual perceive themselves. With the rapid growth and rise of smartphone
usage among adolescents and young adults, social media outlets have become an essential part of one's daily life. Today, when adolescents and
young adults turn on their smartphones, often times, the first thing they will refer to is a social media site. It has become a place where they are
exposed to news, images, and expectations. Thus, often times, these images, ideals, and expectations are ingrained in their brain and bombarded with
what is considered to be beautiful in today's society. Moreover, these unrealistic standards will often lead to a form of comparison, influencing them to
take extreme measures. Although social media serves as a platform where people can connect, communicate, and share, it has a negative impact on
one's body image because it can lead to a

Social Media And Its Impact On Society
In 2008 Joel Garreau conducted interviews and wrote a piece titled "Friends Indeed" for the Washington Post. Garreau brings up possible dangers,
minor inconveniences, and what truly defines a friend in the new media world we live in. I felt Garreau came across as jaded by most of the
interviews he conducted. He did not seem to speak with a wide array of people that gave positive impacts social media can have, but rather focused
on the negatives of the subject. Garreau did bring up valid points, however, from personal safety to the aspect of different people in your life seeing
your different personalities. For instance your Grandma that you go to church with on Sunday 's is now seeing the pictures of you partying with your
friends on Saturday night. Specifically in "Friends Indeed" Garreau covers views on social media and the impacts it has on relationships, representing
all different walks of life from a college student transitioning into the work force to a cattle rancher from Wyoming. Garreau states, "Networked people
who haven 't seen each other in forever already know about the new boyfriend, and what happened to the old one–in very great detail" (122). In making
this comment, Garreau states that catching up with old friends or family has drastically changed and seems to imply a real world disconnect in our
relationships. However I come from a large spread out family and it adds to the experience of seeing them when I do know what has been going on in
their lives.

forums and virtual worlds. online media also use web–based technology that turns communication into interactive dialogue, and makes it easier for
people to communicate with people who are far away. Positive impacts of social media include, the first social media allows us to find out
information with as much and more quickly. as we find out about disease, understanding, about lessons and others, we find it easier, we can search
on google, wikipedia, and others. the second social media makes it easier for us to communicate with others who are further distances. we can
communicate through Line, WA (whats up), BBM. And we can search for friends from social media. Suppose we are looking for information or
news of our friend another city. We can search on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and others the third social media can also be where we make
money. Social media makes it easier for sellers to promote their goods. There are even many people who sell their used goods to social media.
Because according to the seller goods can still be used again, so dear to dispose, better used again for people who need it. the sellers usually promote
their merchandise in Lazada, Tokopedia, Shopee, BukaLapak, even until someone sells it on Instagram, Facebook, BBM, Line, WA (Whats Up), and

The Impact Of Social Media And Its Impact On Teens
Social media is the way teens network. It includes applications such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram where individuals can connect, share
photographs, and like others posts or images. These applications can be accessed through electronic devices such as iPads, phones, computers, etc. It is
known to educate, engage, and impact individuals and their environment. The most well–known theory is that an individual can control what he/she
sees, considers, or feels about a topic. To some degree this is valid. Nevertheless, does teenagers know that social media influence them in some way?
Social networking is harming to a teens growth as it boosts their online identities, separates them from the universe of social connection, occupies their
attention from television, and it also affects relationships. The 21st century has seen the internet change into a device that has made communication
less severe and handier. This change occurred rapidly with thoughts of social networks that would allow the association of individuals in various
nations. Teenagers, being the principle players of the online networks, has been caught *up in the blend of social networking as they have developed
into a period where innovation has reformed the way individuals approach their day by day routines. However, because of the extreme measure of time
spent on these sites, they are left to result in pessimistic consequences for their advancement. Initially, the utilization of social networking has cultivated

The Impact Of Social Media And Its Impact On Society
It is proven that social media has had a huge impact on the way we live our daily lives. Not only has it changed the way we go about our days, it
has changed the way we communicate and interact with the ones we care the most about. Social media has positively and negatively impacted our
relationships with others. "The original intent of social network was to allow people to more readily stay connected with friends and family"
(Qualman, 286). Yet, how regularly do we judge how much social media has affected the way we interface with those that we are closest to? Social
media has allowed us to connect with more people in various parts of the world that we wouldn't necessarily meet on a week to week basis. With the
expansion in the number of contacts, we can observe that we have access to numerous more thoughts and assets. It is a lot easier to meet people that
have the same traits as you, and it is shown when "out of five couples meet online" (Qualman, 274). Websites like E–Harmony, Tinder, and Match.com
make it easier for single people to find other's online and communicate before even meeting them. Social media has made it simpler to broaden your
effective reach and grow it to incorporate individuals you'd get the chance to meet, or might want to know better. Many relationships have flourished
and grown into marriages because of these websites and apps and there is a potential these certain people wouldn't have met without them. In the

The Impact Of Social Media On The Workplace
Social media is becoming an increasingly common feature of
the world of work and this trend looks set to continue. This application of
communication technology or computer mediated tools have developed rapidly in our lives. Survey such as that conducted by CIPD (2013) have
shown that while only a quarter of UK employees use it in their professional lives, this increases to 42% among employees aged 18–24. The innovative
operation mode of social media has not only successfully drawn the attention of industry and academia, but has also boosted user growth, especially in
the younger generation.
Besides, power imbalance between employer and employee in the workplace seems to be unavoidable. As noted by Wilkinson et al. (2014), employees
are citizens who have the right to be informed and consulted; therefore, the aim of employee voice is to communicate with management and express
employees' concerns about their work situation. Nevertheless, in recent years, decreasing union density has gradually shifted the form of voice in most
organisations and countries from collective and unionized channels to direct and individualized mechanisms (Wilkinson et al., 2014).
1.2 Research Questions
According to International Trade Union Confederation, in Taiwan, the rights to organize, collectively bargain and strike are recognised; however,
many categories of employees are barred from forming and joining unions, bargaining is not mandatory and strikes are impeded either by law or by
practice,

Social Media And Its Impact On Society
Mullin, Hardy, & Sutton stated (2014) "social media are platforms that enable users to interact digitally with friends, fans, athletes, celebrities, media,
and brands in real time (p. 348). In just a few short years, social media have become the centerpiece at the table of intercollegiate athletic (Elfman,
2013). Social media is being used for several components such as recruiting; fans engagement, and fundraising, Twitter, and YouTube are increasing the
bonding process to the virtual realm in most athletic department. Causing most athletic departments and the sporting industry to hire folks just for
promoting their brand through social media. Social media has become a game–changer across the board for the sporting industry. Using social media
and the numerous platforms forms several fans as well as followers. For example, the NBA was the first major league that used Facebook and
Twitter. And now they have over 27.5 million fans and followers (Facebook.com, 2013). Therefore, if social media has an impact on gathering
millions of followers can it generate revenue? One assistant athletic director for corporate Sales and Ticket operations gave social media by the way
of Facebook at try and was successful. Zack Lassiter, was prepared to do a press release, hoping that local newspapers and TV stations would follow
suite in helping the University of Utah athletic department sell 500 football season tickets. However before doing this, the ticket department from the

Social Impact Assessment
Miguel Huerta Anth 231 Dr. Pitchon 12/4/2016 References Goldman, Laurence R. Social Impact: An Applied Anthropology Manual. Oxford, 2000.
The book for this week focused on Social Impact Analysis. Social Impact Analysis is an assessment of the social effects of projects, construction, and
disaster preparedness. This was a manual that gave insight on how to conduct SIA, information that affects SIA and how various different issue affect
populations. Social Impact Assessment (week 15) Social impact assessments (SIA) are used to identify the impact of projects, programs, epidemics or
natural disasters. SIA are important in determining the impact these events may have on specific populations. In the world we live in there are
constantly infrastructural projects, SIA are important because underrepresented communities are usually the ones greatly affected by such projects,
they are the ones that suffer the most and ironically are the ones that may have virtually no voice and sometimes vaguely considered when such
projects emerge. In a world where corporations and governments place the economic above the well–being of certain people it is important to have
social impact assessments to assess the pros and cons... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a way to prevent as much negative impact that a population could experience. Since marginalized populations are the most vulnerable to big
infrastructural projects and natural disaster SIA is a way to prevent as much harm as possible. One of the main responsibilities of SIA is to determine
the effects of the project, whether it have a short–term or long–lasting effect on the given social group (Goldman 2000). By doing SIA this method
allows for the evaluation of social impact on any given event that will allow to improve the system or issue so populations could be better prepared for

The Negative Impact Of Social Media

  • 1. The Negative Impact Of Social Media As technology editing tools have become even more prevalent, many feel the need to excessively use photoshop before they share an image online. In a pervasive world where images of unrealistic standards fuel the media on how one should look, social media has one of the most significant impacts on body dissatisfaction in today's society. Throughout the last decade, social media has become one of the most common and favored ways for people to communicate, connect, and share. Thus, there have been many debates and discussions on whether the media has a positive or a negative impact on the way an individual perceives him or herself. As the rapid growth of smartphone usage among adolescents and adults has increased, social media has become an essential part of one's daily life. Today, when most adolescents and adults turn on their smartphones, often times, the first thing they will refer to is a social media site. It has become a place where they are exposed to news, images, and expectations. Often times, these images, ideals, and expectations are ingrained in their brain and bombarded with what is considered to be beautiful in today's society. Moreover, these unrealistic standards will often lead to a form of comparison, influencing them to take extreme measures. Although social media serves as a platform where people can connect, communicate, and share, it has a negative impact on one's body image, because it can lead to a lack of self confidence and severe health conditions. ... Social media affects people by how, and what they use it for now a day. Social media has been in this world for many years, and many different reasons from news, to communication, from games, and updating what they're doing in life like to Facebook, or to even twitter with it having a major impact on society. Social media can also have a negative impact on people's lives. Social media has many negative impacts from false sense of communication, and bullying, to even stress to a young teens life, or it just affecting the brain particles as a whole. "while many think that social media have a positive outlook towards the way we think, others may argue that it has a negative or no correlation at all. Researchers Jesse Fleck and Leigh–Migalski conducted a research project called The Impact of Social Media on Personal and Professional lives: An Adlerian Perspective to inform about changes within both the professional and personal lives due to social media. Unfortunately the research resulted in social media having a negative effect due to a higher ration of negative posts compared to positive posts"(Karran 3 of 6). • 4. Impact Of Social Class On Education The impact of social class differences on education choices in higher education The challenges that students from a working class background face in higher education. This research will be designed to identify the inequalities that still exist in higher education and the barriers that broaden and reinforce social class divide. It will examine the origins of the barriers and also investigate what could be done to minimise these in order to promote social equality. Bourdieu's theory of cultural reproduction indicates that class inequalities has been legitimatised and the education system is facilitated by possession of cultural capital and of higher class habitus which means failure of those students who do not possess these traits is inevitable (Sullivan, 2002). The researcher will use the raw data to indicate the extent to which this theory is still valid. The research will also add value to the already existing literature as it will heighten awareness that social class difference is a contributor in higher educational choices. It will also add to the limited research carried out in this area and will impact on policy makers and the decision made on higher education. Social Media's Impact On Activism "Tweeting is the New Bra Burning: Social Media's Impact on Activism Social media is often discredited as being a superficial waste of time, evidence of the millennial generation's narcissistic tendencies and, in more extreme cases, a detriment to modern society. These statements are, to a certain extent, valid. However, this mindset underestimates social media's potential, which extends beyond reconnecting with vaguely remembered elementary school friends, or wishing loquacious old aunts in Wyoming "Happy Birthday". It is a platform in which an idea can be potentially spread to thousands of people in mere milliseconds. The public discussion following the Rodger shooting may have reached millions of people, but can a collection of tweets make really make a dent on cultural ideas that have been ingrained into the human psyche for thousands of years? The term "slacktivist" has been coined as describing somebody who gives " token support for a cause like wearing a pin or 'liking' something on Facebook, without being willing to engage in more meaningful support"(Essig). This, obviously, is a useless form of support and accomplishes little more than giving said "slacktivists" an inflated ego for helping a "worthy cause". Change can only occur through action, and sitting at home liking pro–choice pages on Facebook just doesn't cut it . However, action cannot exist without awareness. People can't get involved in a cause they know nothing about. Introduction
During the course of this class I have learned about social problems within the society in which we live and around the world. It is disturbing to learn that poverty, social inequality, race and cultural discrimination, gender stratification, environmental damage, population growth, and urbanization are among the social problems and controversial issues that still exist in the United States. What is Social Stratification Social stratification is defined as a system by which society ranks categories of people in a hierarchy. For example, There are fundamental principles of stratification: slavery, caste, and class. The class system which is characterized by its social mobility social stratification is a characteristic of society not because of individual differences, but because social stratification persists over generations. Each of these groups is stratified into its own class; the group of people ranked most closely to them in property, power, and prestige. A person's position in the stratification system affects everything about their life, from what they think and expect in life to how they see the world, as well as what opportunities they will have access to. Although, your status is still assigned at birth, but you have the chance at upward social mobility based on material possessions that you acquire, or things that you achieve. MSc Social Work 2nd Year 2014–15 SPOLM0035 – Social Work Studies 2 Student name: Jonathan Lealand Student number: JL13692 Word count: 4025 Introduction In 2004 David Miliband, then the Minister of State for School Standards, argued, "Personalisation reflects a model of service delivery that overcomes the limitations of both paternalism and consumerism." (Miliband, 2004, p.11). In doing so he was adding his voice to a general political consensus driving the reform of social services. These reforms known collectively as 'personalisation' ostensibly seek to expand service–user choice and participation through a rethink of the role and relationship of social services, involving and empowering service users to take control of the services they need. This style of service provision was in contrast to a social services provider model that had in the past been accused of being patriarchal and offering a simple, one–size–fits–all service. However an alternate, competing explanation of the personalisation reform agenda also emerged. It criticizes personalisation as a form of back–door commercialisation, driven not by need but by an increasingly neoliberal, political ideology of which the primary aims are to cut costs and relieve the statutory services of responsibility for care. These two perspectives not only provide competing interpretations of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The use of social media has been used throughout different industries including collegiate sports. Over the years it has been seen to increase fan support and interactions, increase the numbers in ticket sales and help with recruiting. Social media has even posed as a danger into hurting a brand throughout recent events. Introduction In today's society, social media has started to become popular. Over the past few years, social media outlets have sky rocketed. Facebook has more than 900 million users now and Twitter recently topped over 140 million users (Medcalf, 2011). Social media has also played a major role in sports with engaging the franchise or team with their fans and keeping them up to date with the latest news. However, professional sports teams, entities and even collegiate sports programs have started to install a social media policy of some kind. Majority of the reason this is done is to protect and to set a proper protocol in place. Discussion In October 2013, the conditions of Grambling State University's football facilities made national headlines after a couple of tweets went viral on Twitter from a student. Pictures of the weight room and locker room were posted on social media and later seen on ESPN and other major media outlets. A lot of what we think about ourselves comes from our connections with other people. Our sense of self–identity originates from our social interactions. Our sense of identity comes from how other people respond to us and from how we present ourselves to others. Neuroscientists know that this process begins in infancy and continues throughout life. Yet, social interaction is undergoing significant changes. This is partly due to changing social norms, but also to the use of social media. Facebook, Twitter, and online dating sites are changing the way we see ourselves, our ability to influence how others see us, and the way we act as a result. Research by neuroscientists has revealed a lot about the importance of social relationships of all kids. The reason humans developed social relationships was probably because being social increased your chances of survival. Dr. Louis Cozzolino of Pepperdine University writes that, "Using evolution as an organizing principle, we being with the assumption that our social brains have emerged during natural selection because being social enhances survival" (Cozzolino 5). Self–Esteem Communication barriers are not the only issue that has been brought on by social media. Extensive social media use has also been known to affect a person's self–esteem. Some individuals suffer from a low self–esteem and limit themselves to social media in hopes to create a different image of them. According to Charles Cooley, "The thing that moves us to pride or shame is not the mere mechanical reflection of ourselves, but an imputed sentiment, the imagined effect of this reflection upon another's mind" (Morine, 2009). For some teens and young adults, social media may help them open up and achieve a higher self–esteem. On the other hand, social media on other teens and young adults may have a completely opposite effect. In an article titled, Is Facebook Making Your Child Depressed, it is stated that social media websites such as Facebook "can create a skewed reality that makes teens feel alienated" (PR, 2012). • 13. Social And Social Impact On Social Media Technology Leading to the Decline of Our Social Skills The rapid growth in our dependency on technology for communication has led to a large decline in our basic social and interaction skills. One of the basic tenets of social psychology is that humans are social animals, however, in the technological world of today we seem to be straying away from this facet of our nature. Ever since the rise of social media and convenience of communication, for example, via mobile devices, we have fallen out of touch with an important part of our human nature, our desire to interact and communicate with one another face–to–face, which has resulted in a large disconnect in our society. The negative social effects brought upon by our dependency on social media has made it harder for humans to function in society. It is becoming increasingly difficult for our youth to make friends, relationships have become harder to sustain, and the number of people feeling lonely as well as the prevalence of social disorders has increased. In today's society, there are growing concerns about the ability of children and teenagers to maintain effective social interaction, such as face–to–face conversation, and meeting new people without the use of any technology. Nowadays, direct communication for younger people is being replaced by text messaging and instant messaging via Twitter, Facebook and the many other social media outlets available today. • 15. The Negative Impacts Of Social Media Erik Qualman once said, "We don't have the choice on whether we do social media, the question is how well we do it." According to Merriam Webster, social medias are forms of electronic communication through which people create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, etc. Certainly, most high schools students own more than one account on the Internet. Because younger generations have little understanding of social medias, they are more likely to be controlled by the Internet. For instance, bad manners out there might take advantage of them. Nowadays, adolescents are more likely to be on their phones rather than enjoy the sun out there. For this reason, teens are less experienced the state of being teenagers. We need to develop the opportunities offered by digital and social media to promote learning and wellbeing for our youth that is inclusive of young people's input and ideas. Stephen and Toubia defined social commerce as "a form of Internet–based social media that allows people to actively participate in the marketing and selling of products and services in online marketplaces and communities." Social interaction can be described as ties and refers to a connection between two objects. For that reason, in social media it is important to understand that all the activities one object makes, impacts on the transfer of knowledge– impacts the ties. Same influence can be seen also in social media interaction ties, users can be influenced to be more active and therefore can make the transactions more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Social Impacts Of Neoliberalism Neoliberalism is the current dominant economic and social dialect in Western society. It is a method of social control through economic and social policy–making practices which affects all spheres of the world. Some critics of neoliberalism perceive it as a social, economic and political movement through lenses that reach beyond the popular narrative of the system: it is engrained in our law and culture. Two of these critical perspectives are the Neo–Marxist and Neo–Foucaultian schools of analysis. Addressing the relevance of the social impacts of Neoliberalism explored by these analyses is essential to observe its intersection with legal applications, which have ensured many social harms that are purposely hidden from the public eye through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The period was followed by the Great Depression of the 1930s, which led the economist John Maynard Keynes to his theory that challenged the notion of liberalism as the best policy for capitalists. In essence, Keynes claimed that full employment is necessary for capitalism to grow, and this can only be achieved if governments and central banks intervene to increase employment. In fact, these ideas contributed greatly to an improvement in the quality of life for many. Consequently, the belief that the government should advance for the "common good" became widely accepted. However, the capitalist crisis we have experienced over the past decades and its shrinking profit rates inspired a new rising corporate elite to revive economic liberalism and self–determination policies. One observes, then, the upsurge of a "neo" system that agglomerated economics and social policies more noticeably. Soon enough, through a new narrative of "freedom" and "individualism," Neoliberalism would take a global scale and would make its entering into the law in a more pervasive and exclusive manner than ever ... • 26. Social And Social Impact On Social Media It has been suggested that people use social media sites, consciously or unconsciously, (Haferkamp & Kramer, 2011) as a basis for social comparative functions, such as self–evaluation (Festinger, 1954). Individuals usually compare themselves with others on various characteristics such as popularity, appearance, and success (Feinstein, Hershenberg, Bhatia, Latack, Meuwly, & Davila, 2013). When information is acquired of others, people will compare themselves to others (Mussweiler, Ruter, & Epstude, 2006). According to Wood (1989), social comparison is not in itself problematic. However, little research has been found that examines the social comparison behavior on social media (Lee, 2014). Facebook is an important place and tool for social life among college students (Boyd, 2007). On average, college students have a minimum of 358 friends, with most spending their time reading the content of other people's pages (Pempek, Yermolayeva, & Calvert, 2009). The frequent use among Facebook users that are college students implies that they are likely to engage in social comparison on Facebook (Lee, 2014). There have been few studies that have examined a person's psychological characteristics (e.g. self–esteem, depression, and self–consciousness) and Facebook use (citations). In a previous study conducted by Lee (2014) on how college students compare themselves with others on Facebook, there was a negative relationship between social comparison frequency and self–esteem. • 27. The Impact Of Social Media On Social Movements Social Media in Social Movements The article How the Bundys' social media machine fed their political movement by Lindsey Bever on The Washington Post discusses how social media was a driving force in the Bundys' Occupation of the Oregon Wildlife Sanctuary (2016). The Bundys' used social media to communicate with their followers and as a call to arms in times of need. In addition, they used social media to promote their cause, to support local ranching and lessen the government's possession of land. In the article, communications professor Phil Howard states, "It's very difficult to have a modern political movement without a social media strategy" to emphasize the influence of social media in social movements. After a lull in social media activity, the Bundys came back to protest the prosecution of Dwight and Steven Hammond, who were ranchers who committed acts of arson on public land in 2012 (Bever, 2016). This lead them to react and occupy a building on a wildlife sanctuary in Oregon. After a period of time, the F.B.I. stepped in to shut down the occupation of the wildlife sanctuary, this lead to the arrests of many members and the death of one, LaVoy Finicum. After Finicum was shot, his daughter used Facebook to confirm his death. Fearing a raid, later a man used Finicum's YouTube channel to also announce his death and make another call to arms. Finally, they used social media to issue a stand down. The usage of social media was near imperative to the Bundys' cause and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Negative Impact On Social Media The use of technology and social media has become very prevalent in the 21st century. Almost everyone in the United States owns some kind of social media account. According to Statista.com, "In 2017, 81 percent of U.S. Americans had a social media profile, representing a five percent growth compared to the previous year." While the number of users increases every year, it seems as though the number of people who prefer to live in the "virtual world" also increases. I believe that social media sites create isolation for all individuals. There are so many distractions on these sites that most people cannot even focus on the present. These sites also provide an illusion of companionship. While many believe they are finding their "soulmates" online, in reality they are only living in a fantasy. A person's self–image is also affected by social media. Some believe that all the "likes" and "comments" can boost self–confidence, but if you are not receiving any of these things, then what is the point. Social media has drastically changed our ability to stay focused on what is going on in our immediate vicinity. Students are religiously connecting themselves to these sites and are continuously signing online to check their status, some could even say that they are addicted. Even while in class, students are on their laptops or smartphones and spend the majority of their time checking their 'home page' and partially (if at all) listening to the lecture of their teachers. Social Isolation And Its Impact On Social Capital Social Isolation and Its Impact on Social Capital The "surprising" finding of Rankin and Quane does to an extent show the limits of previous research, such as Putnam, on social isolation, because it does not take into consideration economic and race. Although, Rankin and Quane findings show high levels of engagement among people in poorer neighborhoods the findings are not significant enough to change the notion that social capital is eroding and therefore it is increasing social isolation amongst Americans. In this essay I'm going to talk about how Rankin and Quane findings actually correlate with Putnam's and other author point of view on the erosion of social capital. Some of the examples we will be looking into is the effect Mothers have on social capital, the loss of trust amongst Americans, Lack of Network communication, Effects that trust, reciprocation, and obligation have on social isolation and social capital. Social isolation plays a big role in social capital, economic status and race. Social isolation refers to "the lack of contact or of sustained interaction with individuals and institutions that represent mainstream society ' ' (Wilson qtd Rankin & Quane 4). Rankin and Quane believed that African Americans who are from poor families lacked connections with "successful" people and therefore were socially isolated. This is because they were not associated with people who finished college or people who had a stable job. This affects social capital ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is assumed that the fuel efficiency of both engines is equal. 3.2 Life cycle inventory In order to estimate the amount of resources required and emissions released to produce steel, cast iron, and aluminium, inventory data published by [11] is utilized. To compute emissions released by electricity production, China's electricity generation life cycle inventory found in [12] is used. To calculate resources consumed and emissions produced due to diesel fuel refinery and combustion, data presented in [13] and [14] are applied. For the social aspect, based on the information provided by the manufacturer, data summarized in Table 1 is obtained. Note that Rmfg stands for remanufactured. For the use phase, cost incurred due to diesel fuel consumption is calculated as the following, 300,000 km Г— 0.25 litre/km Г— 7.724 CNY/litre = 579,315 CNY. 7.72 CNY/litre was the average price of diesel fuel in China in 2013. CNY stands for Chinese Yuan, the currency of China. In order to estimate the portion of value–added in the form of employee compensation in China (VAchina) over the life cycle of the diesel engines, China's EIO table (42 sectors) for the year of 2007 is used [15]. In a pervasive world where images of unrealistic standards fuel over the media on how one should look, social media has one of the most significant impacts in body dissatisfaction in today's society. Throughout the last decade, social media has become one of the most common and favored ways for people to communicate, connect, and share. Garreau brings up possible dangers, minor inconveniences, and what truly defines a friend in the new media world we live in. I felt Garreau came across as jaded by most of the interviews he conducted. He did not seem to speak with a wide array of people that gave positive impacts social media can have, but rather focused on the negatives of the subject. Garreau did bring up valid points, however, from personal safety to the aspect of different people in your life seeing your different personalities. For instance your Grandma that you go to church with on Sunday 's is now seeing the pictures of you partying with your friends on Saturday night. Specifically in "Friends Indeed" Garreau covers views on social media and the impacts it has on relationships, representing all different walks of life from a college student transitioning into the work force to a cattle rancher from Wyoming. Garreau states, "Networked people who haven 't seen each other in forever already know about the new boyfriend, and what happened to the old one–in very great detail" (122). In making this comment, Garreau states that catching up with old friends or family has drastically changed and seems to imply a real world disconnect in our relationships. Social media has positively and negatively impacted our relationships with others. "The original intent of social network was to allow people to more readily stay connected with friends and family" (Qualman, 286). Yet, how regularly do we judge how much social media has affected the way we interface with those that we are closest to? Social media has allowed us to connect with more people in various parts of the world that we wouldn't necessarily meet on a week to week basis. With the expansion in the number of contacts, we can observe that we have access to numerous more thoughts and assets.
