RSGs organize a wide variety of events, such as
symposiums, webinars, podcasts, workshops,
courses, panel discussions, hackathons, scicomm
& outreach, and networking events to disseminate
science and provide training on cutting-edge
topics in computational biology, often in
collaboration with local schools, organizations, and
institutions.

ISCB Student Council Regional Student Groups:
Connecting young computational biologists around the Globe
The ISCB Student Council started the ‘Regional Student Groups’ (RSG) program in 2006 to facilitate
interactions between local young scientists and students in computational biology and bioinformatics
across the globe. RSGs have developed a platform for young computational biology researchers and
students at local regions to nurture networking potential and foster bioinformatics education, thus
overcoming the challenges in their regional communities.
In 2022, the 1st Symposium of Spanish-Speaking Students
in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (SEH2Bioinfo)
was organized, marking it the first bioinformatics event with
extensive collaboration among Spanish-speaking RSGs: RSG
Argentina, RSG Spain, RSG Ecuador, RSG Venezuela, RSG
Colombia, RSG Chile, RSG Peru, and with secondary
collaborations from RSG Costa Rica and RSG México. This
event contributed to enhancing plurilingualism and linguistic
diversity in science and bioinformatics, eliminating barriers to
accessing scientific communication.

RSG committee's focus for the near future
To expand the RSG community's presence and
activities across Africa, Asia, and North America.
To facilitate more in-person events, which
stopped due to the covid-19 pandemic.
To provide a platform for increased cross-
border and inter-continental collaborations.
