2. How are music videos made?
When a music video is made it is generally done for a single release
or for the album release.
The music video is filmed. The time it takes to film the video varies
depending on how detailed the music video is.
Then the video is edited and special effects are added to make it as
effective as possible.
Notable directors:
• David Fincher - The Rolling Stones
- George Michael
• Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris
- Oasis
- Red Hot Chilli Peppers
(These Directors link to my genre as it
they direct videos that’re indie/alternate
genres.)
• Jonas Åkerlund - Maroon 5
- Blink 182
3. The purpose of a music video
The purpose of a music video is to promote the song. The music video is there
to also give more meaning to the song and give the song more of a story.
An example of a music video which relies upon its video is Michael Jackson’s
Thriller.
Michael Jackson - Thriller
The video sets the scene for the song, the title doesn’t show off what the song
is about and its theme so having the video helps with showing off what the
theme is and what the song is about.
In this case the theme is horror and the song is about how things transform
during the night.
4. How music videos are accessed
Music Videos are accessed in different ways. These ways vary from
Television to the Internet or even to digital stores such as iTunes and
Google Play Store. The most popular way of accessing Music Videos is
via the Internet.
5. Further Research
Another reason to why music videos are made is to give the band
more publicity, if music videos gain mass amount of publicity, music
videos could become award winning material.
A popular awards ceremony is the Grammy’s.
Examples of Grammy Award for Best Music Video:
• David Bowie
• The Beatles
• U2
• Justin Timberlake
