2. How music videos are made? Music videos are made when a single has just been released, then plans are put into place to create a music video for the artist. They then call in film crew, the artist, producers, directors and more important people. They then plan how long it will take and how many days they need to film for. They will work and work until every shot is perfect and ‘music video material’. The music video will usually be mimed. Editors of music videos spend days, maybe weeks editing the video and adding special effects and setting the music correctly so that everything is perfect and ready for release. The music videos are then premiered on music channels such as MTV or Smash Hits so that they can get their big break onto the music scene, and people can tune in to watch them if it appeals to them.
3. The purpose of music videos? The purpose of music videos is to aid the promotion of an artists new single, it’s to show the artists creativity qualities. Also, its done to sell the track, to let people see what the songs about, or so they can find out some things about the artist through the music video. In my opinion, I think one of the main factors of the purpose of music videos is so that audiences have something to remember. Something iconic that happened in a music video or similar, so songs can be recognised by there iconic music video, for example Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ video would be nothing without the video, when people think of that, they remember it for the video, not the song itself, they remember the iconic dance moves and the strange goings on that led it to be an iconic piece of music video history. Artists make music videos to make themselves known to the public, so that they can show off their dancing talents and all of their talents overall. They also make them, because they know that their song isn’t going to sell on it’s own, audiences these days feel they need something to look at whilst listening to music, which music videos are needed for. Companies get involved so they can make money and also make a name for themselves to become more noticeable music video producers.
