What does “Islam” mean?
The word الإسلام [Islam] is an infinitive word derived from س ل م [silm] root in if‘al pattern and used as noun and infinitive. The word silm means “release/keeping away; and to be distant from fear, doubt, trouble, lack of peace, unhappiness, fight, war, pain, suffering, material and spiritual inconveniences, weakness and decaying, and all the negativities.” This word is also the root of salim, selam, teslim, Islam etc. The word’s “Islam” form means “strengthening” [removal from problems, worries, fear, unhappiness, fights, wars, and similar negative things]. Hence, the religion Islam means the “the religion that strengthens humans [entire range of principles that protects and secures people by putting a distance between them and problems, worries, war, weakness, spiritual illness, unhappiness, and similar things].”

SURAH LUQMAN (LUQMAN)
MECCAN PERIOD
Division: 214
1Alif/1, Lam/30, Mim/40.240
2-5These are the Ayat of that Scripture which contains laws as a guide and
mercy upon those who serve their Salat [Support financially and spiritually; establish
and maintain social institutions to enlighten the community], who provide/contribute
Zaqat/tax, and those who certainly believe in Akhirat [Afterlife], who do good deeds
–They are upon a righteous oath from their Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer]. And they are the ones who will reach the salvation-.
(57/31; Luqman/1-5)
Division: 215
6There are some people who purchase entertainment of speech to lead astray
from the path of Allah without knowing and enjoy. They are the ones for whom will
there be a humiliating punishment.
7And when Our Ayat are recited to them, they turn away arrogantly as if their
ears are blocked and they could not hear. Then give them the information about a
painful suffering.
8,9Surely, those who believe and do good deeds, for them will be the Gardens
of Eden full of blessings, in which they shall reside eternally. This is a real
commitment from Allah. And He is the Most Exalted, the Almighty, the Most
Honorable, the Invincible/the Subduer, the Best Law-Maker, the One Who Precludes
Corruption Best/the One Who Makes Incorruptible.
(57/31; Luqman/6-9)

10Allah created the Heavens without bearings, you see that indeed. And He
built mountains on the Earth so that it could bring upon you feasts and created and
spread all kinds of creatures, small and large, all over it. And We brought down
water from the Heavens, thus We grew pairs of precious plants of all kinds.
11This is the creation of Allah. Now show me! What have those subordinates of
Allah that you worship created? Surely, those who do wrong by associating others
with Allah; who act against their own good, they are in a blatant perversion.

(57/31; Luqman/10-11)
Division: 217
12Surely, We gave Luqman Our laws, rules and principles saying: “Be grateful
for what We have given you!” so he could prevent injustice and chaos. –Whoever is
grateful for what he is given will do so for his own sake. And whoever is ungrateful,
surely Allah requires nothing, He is always the Most Worthy of praising.-
13When Luqman preached his son, saying to him: “O my son! Do not associate
others with Allah, surely, associating others with Allah is an evil deed; it is acting
against one’s own good. 16O my son! Surely, associating others with Allah is an evil
deed which Allah will bring before you even though it weighs as a seed of mustard
and hidden within a boulder or in the Heavens or underground. Surely, Allah is the
Most Courteous, the Most Aware with the truth. 17O my child! Perform Salat
[Support financially and spiritually; enlighten the community], inflict good, avoid
evil. Have patience for what befelll upon you. Surely, these are your obligations.
18And do not swell your cheek upon people out of contempt, do not frown and do not
walk arrogantly upon earth. Surely, Allah does not like those who are boastful and
self-deluded. 19And be moderate on the Earth, speak with low voice. Surely, the
harshest voice is braying of the asses”.
14And We enjoined upon man his mother and father as a liability: -His mother
carried him in weakness upon weakness. His weaning is in two years.- “Be grateful
to Me, your mother and father!”. Only to Me you will be returned.
15And if your mother and father force you to associate something you do not
know with Me, do not obey them. And treat them good on this world and follow the
path of those who turn to Me. Only to Me you will be returned. Then I will inform
you about what you do.241

20Do you not see that Allah has made all that is in the Heavens and on the Earth
prostrate before you/created all in such structure and system so you can benefit? And
Allah has bestowed upon you all His blessings, within or apparent. Some of the
people dispute about Allah without knowledge, guidance or an enlightening
scripture.
3. 3
21And when they were told: “Follow what Allah has sent upon you!”, they said:
“We rather follow that upon which we found our ancestors”. What if Satan was
inviting them to the wrath of Jahannah [Hell]?
(57/31; Luqman/20-21)
Division: 219
22And whoever does good deeds and surrenders himself to Allah, then he has
grasped the most reliable handle. Upon Allah will be the decision of all matters.
23Whoever utters blasphemies; consciously denies the Divinity of Allah and the
fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] of all
universes, do not sadden yourself for his blasphemy or denial. Only to Us they shall
be returned. Then We will inform them about what they do. Surely, Allah is the Best
Knowing of what is within their chests.
24We let them benefit. Then We force them to an intense punishment.
25Yet they shall say, “Allah!” when they are asked: “Who created the Heavens
and the Earth?”. Say: “All praise be upon Allah; No one else may be praised!”
Actually, most of them do not know.
26All that is in the Heavens and on the Earth belongs only to Allah. Surely,
Allah is wealthy indeed and needs nothing at all; He always is worthy of praising.
27And were all trees in the world pens and were the seas, supplied with seven
more seas, ink, words of Allah would not be depleted. Surely, Allah is the Most
Exalted, the Almighty, the Most Honorable, the Invincible/the Subduer and the One
Who Precludes Corruption the Best/the One Who Makes Incorruptible the Best.
28And your creation and your resurrection is just like of an single soul. Surely,
Allah is the Best Hearing and the Best Seeing.
29Have you never seen/thought that Allah makes the night to follow the day
and vice versa? Ha made the sun and the moon to prostrate Him/created mankind
with all forms and functions that they may benefit. All these float to the end of a
predetermined time. And indeed Allah knows what you do.
30That is because, Allah is indeed the Truth itself. And those subordinates of
Allah whom they used to worship have vanished. And surely, Allah is the Highest
and the Greatest.
4. 4
31Have you never seen/thought that ships float down to the seas with the grace
of Allah just to show us His evidence/signs? Surely this is evidence/a sign for those
who have patience and are grateful for what they are given.
32And when a wave enshrouds them like a shadow, they purify the religion for
Him and call upon Allah. But when they reach the land and are saved, some of them
take a hypocrite path [follow a path between faith and consciously denying the
Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer,
the Sustainer], plays both sides]. And only those who are completely traitors and
ungrateful consciously deny our Ayat.
33O mankind! Surrender under the guardianship of Allah. And fear the day
when the son will not avail his father and the father will not avail to his son. Surely,
true is the commitment of Allah. Then, be not enticed by the simple worldly life.
And do not let that deceiver deceive you with Allah.
34Surely, Allah is the One Who has the knowledge of the Hour of Doomsday.
And He causes the rain to fall and only He knows what is in the wombs. And no one
knows what he will earn tomorrow. No one knows where he will die too. Surely,
Allah is the Most Knowing and the Most Acquainted.
(57/31; Luqman/22-34)
