SURAH AL-FURQAN (DISTINGUISHING BETWEEN THE GOOD AND
THE EVIL, BEAUTY AND HIDEOUSNESS)
MECCAN PERIOD
Division: 96
1The Most Generous /the Most Beneficent is the One Who sent down the
Furqan130 as an admonition to His servants! 2The One Who sent down the Furqan is
the Ruler of the Heavens and the Earth, Who begets no children, Who has no
associates in His rule and Who created all and ordered all in His measurements.
3Yet those infidels; they adopted idols that are inferior to Him, that are not
capable of creating anything, that are created, that are not capable of doing good or
bad for themselves and that are not capable of controlling death or life nor
resurrecting.
4And those infidels; those who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the
fact that He is Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] said: “This, the
Qur’an, is nothing but a lie uttered by him/Muhammad. And others helped him forget
this lie”. Thus they acted unjustly and brought forward a false allegation.
5And they said: “The Qur’an is actually the stories of the ancient ones written
down; and these are being dictated to him day and night/continuously”.
6Say: “The Qur’an has been revealed by the One Who knows the secret of the
Heavens and the Earth. Surely, He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful”.
7,8And those deniers said: “What kind of messenger he is that he eats, walks in
the streets? Why has not an angel been sent down to him? Thus he would have a
Warner beside him! Or why has not a treasure been sent down to him or a garden
been given to him to eat from?”. Those who associated Allah with others; who did
deeds against their own benefit said: “You only follow a possessed one”.
9See what kind of examples they bring forward to compare with you! Then
they have gone astray now and cannot find the righteous path.
50And surely We have explained everything in various ways for them to receive
admonition but most of the people still insist on denying.
51If We had wished We would surely have sent a Warner to every city.
52Then do not obey those infidels who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah
and the fact that He is Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] and
2
fight against them for the sake of Allah, make your best efforts against them with
Furqan!
10So Generous is He that if He had wished He could have given you all that is
better than the treasury and the garden they are bragging about; He could have given
you Jannah [Heaven/Paradise], under which rivers flow; He could have built for you
palaces.
11They have actually denied the Qiyamat [the Day of Judgment]. And We have
prepared a blazing fire for those who deny the Qiyamat.
12When that blazing fire sees them from afar, they shall hear its fury and roar.
13And when they are thrown into a cramped place in Jahannah [Hell], their
hands are tied to their necks, they shall beg for instant death.
- 14Beg for not one but many deaths today! –
15Say: “Is this torture or Jannah [Heaven/Paradise] that has been promised to
those who have surrendered themselves under the guardianship of Allah better as a
reward or punishment for what has been done?”. 16For them is there what they wish,
eternally. – This is a commitment which is adopted by your Rabb [Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] to be done. –
17And on that day, your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]
will gather them and their idols, which they have adopted from among those who are
inferior to Allah and say: “It was you who led my servants stray from the righteous
path or did they lose the way?”.
18And those fake idols will say: “We hereby exonerate You from all
deficiencies. It does not suit us to adopt helpers, guides and protectors from among
those that are inferior to You. But You had bestowed their ancestors too much of
Your blessings so they abandoned the Admonition/the Scripture and became a people
that was doomed to destruction”.
19Here, your idols have refuted you for what you say. So you are unable to
avert and to get help. And those of you who associate Allah with others thus doing
wrong; doing deeds against their own good, We will make them taste a great agony.
20Before you, We indeed sent messengers who did eat, walk in bazaars. And
We made some of you a tool for jeopardy so as to purify some of you. – Will you
have patience? – And your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] is
the One Who sees all.
(42/25; Al-Furqan/1-9, 50-52, 10-20)

21And those who did not expect to meet Us said: “Angels/natural forces should
have been sent upon us” or “Should we have not seen our Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher,
the Nurturer, the Sustainer]?” Surely, they became arrogant and transgressed more
and more.
22On the day on which they shall see the angels; on that day, no good tidings
will be for those sinners. And those who do not expect to meet Us will say: “It is
forbidden, yes indeed!”.
23And We prevented whatever those, who did not expect to meet Us, did and
converted into scattered dust particles.
24The Companions of Jannah [Heaven/Paradise] will, on that day, be better in
their abode and finer in the places to rest.
25And on that day, the heavens will be split open with clouds and angels [rays,
radiation and meteors] will be sent down in successive order.
26On that day, the actual dominion will belong to the Rahman [Allah; The One
Who is the Most Merciful Towards His Creations on the Earth]. It will be a tough
day for infidels; for those who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact
that He is Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer].
27-29An on that day, those who have been doing wrong by associating others
with Allah; doing deeds against their own good, will bite their hands and say: “O
woe to me! If only I had followed the Messenger’s path! O woe to me! If only I had
not accepted that one as influential leader. Surely, he made me stray from the
Admonition/the Scripture after it had come to me. And Satan is truly a humiliator for
the man!”.
30And the Messenger said: “O my Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer]! Surely, my people have taken this Qur’an as an isolated/abandoned
thing”.
31And thusly, We made one of those sinners an enemy for each Prophet. Then
your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer], the Guide and the
Helper is sufficient for you.
32Infidels; those who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that
He is Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] said: “Should the
Qur’an have not been revealed to him at once?”. We sent it down division by
division so as to place it deeply in your heart. And We revealed it part by
part/without disarranging.
4
33And for each problem they submitted to you, We indeed revealed to you the
truth and the most eloquent explanation.
34Those who will be gathered in Jahannah [Hell] on their faces; yes they are the
worst in position and the most perverted in their practices.
(42/25; Al-Furqan/21-34)
Division: 98
35And surely We handed over to Moses the Scripture and appointed his brother
Aaron as his companion, assistant and supporter.
36Then We said: “Go to those people who deny Our Ayat!”. Ultimately, We
disintegrated and destroyed those people who denied Our Ayat.
37We drowned the people of Noah when they had denied the messengers and
made them evidence/sign for the humanity. And We prepared a severely painful
punishment for those who associate Us with others; who do wrong deeds against
their own good.
38And We destroyed and demolished the people of Ad, Thamud and many
generations between them.
39And We gave to all of them examples and destroyed them.
40And surely, they went to that region that had been showered with rain of
destruction and evil. So, had they not seen it? Quite the opposite, they did not expect
to be resurrected.
(42/25; Al-Furqan/35-40)
Division: 99
41,42And when they see you, they mock you and say: “Is this the one who is
sent by Allah as the Messenger? Had we not insisted on worshipping our gods, he
would have led us stray from our gods”. And when they taste the agony soon, they
shall know who has gone astray the farthest!
43Have you seen/thought about the one who adopted his evil feelings and
desires as his god? Or will you be his Wakil [Advocate]?
44Or do you really think that they shall heed the Wahy [Revelation] or use their
thinking ability? They are like animals. Truly are they more astray/confused/inferior
than the animals.
5
(42/25; Al-Furqan/41-44)
Division: 100
45,46Have you not seen how your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer] extended the shadow? Had He wished, He would surely have rendered it
motionless. Then We made the sun evidence for him. Then We pulled it towards us
with an easy pull.
47And He is the One Who makes the night a gown for you and the sleep the
comfort. And He is the One Who makes the day a spread.
48,49And He is the One Who sends the winds as bringers of good tidings before
His mercy. And We rain a pure water from the Heavens to revive a rather barren
land, provide water for all animals and humans which We created.
(42/25; Al-Furqan/45-49)
Division: 101
53And He is the One Who has released the two seas; that water is sweet and
quenches the thirst and the other one is salty and bitter. And He is the One Who sets
a barrier in between them thus barring them from mixing.
54And He is the One Who has created a human population from water and
made them relatives by means of lineage and marriage. And your Rabb [Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] is the Most Competent.
55Yet they worship such idols rather than Allah, which cannot do them benefits
or bring harm to them. And that infidel; that one who consciously denies the Divinity
of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer] makes his best efforts to be against your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer]/to lead His servants astray.
56And We have sent you as the Bringer of Good Tidings and as the Warner.
57Say: “I do not demand a payment for all this whatsoever. I only want to have
you to follow the righteous path that leads to your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer]”.
58And you trust the Ever-Living One and praise and exonerate Him from all
deficiencies. The Ever-Living One is sufficient for His servants, knowing all their
sins.
6
59He is the Ever-Living, the One Who created the Heavens, the Earth and all
that lies between them in six steps, then dominated the great throne of heavens,131 He
is the Most Merciful for His servants on this world. Then, ask the one who knows
this very well.
60And when they were told: “Prostrate and surrender to Rahman [the Most
Merciful upon His creations on this world]!”, they said: “And who is this Allah, the
Most Merciful upon His servants on this world? Why should we prostrate to which
you order us?”. And the order for prostration and surrender increased their hatred.
(42/25; Al-Furqan/53-60)
Division: 102
61Generous is the One Who created constellations in the Heavens and placed
the moon among them, illuminating like an oil lamp!
62And He is the One Who makes the day and night follow each other for those
who are able to take the admonition and wish to return their gratitude for that which
has been bestowed upon them.
63And servants of Rahman [the Most Merciful upon all His creations on this
world], servants of Allah are such humble people who say “Salam! [Peace be upon
you]” when those ignorant tease them.
64Servants of Rahman [the Most Merciful upon all His creations on this world]
surrender to their Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] and
overnight serving their duties of servitude.
65,66And servants of Rahman [the Most Merciful upon all His creations on this
world] say: “O our Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! Avert
from us the wrath of Jahannah [Hell]! Indeed, its wrath is an eternal destruction.
What an evil headquarters, an evil residence is it!”.
67And servants of Rahman [the Most Merciful upon His creations on this
world] neither waste nor withhold; there has been established a balance between.
68-71And servants of Rahman [the Most Beneficent] do not worship any other
idols along with Allah. They do not kill a soul that is forbidden by Allah. – They only
kill by right. – They refrain from adultery. – And those who commit these sins will
meet a punishment. Many times the agony will be for those on the Qiyamat [Day of
Judgment] and they shall stay there forever, being humiliated. But those who repent,
believe and do good deeds will be spared. Thus, Allah turn their evil deeds to good.
And Allah is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful. And whoever repents and does
good deeds, his repentance will surely be forgiven and he will return Allah. –
7
72And servants of Rahman [the Most Beneficent] do not testify to falsehood,
and when they come upon a trivial matter they pass with dignity.
73And servants of Rahman [the Most Beneficent] are reminded of the
evidence/signs of their Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer], they
shall not act like they are blind and deaf.
74And servants of Rahman [the Most Beneficent] say: “O our Rabb [Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! Grant/bestow us such wives and successors
who will bring comfort to us. And render us a leader for those who surrendered
themselves under the guardianship of Allah!”.
75,76And servants of Rahman [the Most Beneficent] will be rewarded with an
eternal life in the Highest places in Jannah [Heaven/Paradise] for their patience, and
they shall be welcomed with respect and peace [Salam]. – What a beautiful
headquarters and residence it is! –
77Say: “Did you really think that my Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer,
the Sustainer] would care about you if not for your cries so you did not bother to pray
and deny Him? Now your rejection and denial will be an inseparable part of yours
and you will not be able to evade this”.
(42/25; Al-Furqan/61-77)
130 In this Ayah, the furqan [distinguishing between the good and the evil, beauty and
hideousness] nature of the Qur’an is emphasized. As we previously explained in the Surah Al-
Mursalat, being one of the names of the Qur’an, furqan is derived from the term farq, which means
“to separate two things apart”, and means the same as the word fariqa. When its commonly used
meanings are examined, it can be found that the words derived from the term farq; tafriq, firaq,
firqat, firqah, fariq; are used for concrete concepts [perceptible]; while the terms; fariqat, faruq and
furqan are used for abstract concepts.
Since the term furqan that is said to be given to Moses in the Official Mushaf: Surah Al-
Baqara/53 and Al-Anbiya’/48 separates the abstract concepts truth and superstitious, faith and curse,
beauty and ugly, good and bad, it is also used as a name of the Qur’an.

042 surah al-furqan (distinguishing between the good and the evil, beauty and hideousness)

  • 1. 1 SURAH AL-FURQAN (DISTINGUISHING BETWEEN THE GOOD AND THE EVIL, BEAUTY AND HIDEOUSNESS) MECCAN PERIOD Division: 96 1The Most Generous /the Most Beneficent is the One Who sent down the Furqan130 as an admonition to His servants! 2The One Who sent down the Furqan is the Ruler of the Heavens and the Earth, Who begets no children, Who has no associates in His rule and Who created all and ordered all in His measurements. 3Yet those infidels; they adopted idols that are inferior to Him, that are not capable of creating anything, that are created, that are not capable of doing good or bad for themselves and that are not capable of controlling death or life nor resurrecting. 4And those infidels; those who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] said: “This, the Qur’an, is nothing but a lie uttered by him/Muhammad. And others helped him forget this lie”. Thus they acted unjustly and brought forward a false allegation. 5And they said: “The Qur’an is actually the stories of the ancient ones written down; and these are being dictated to him day and night/continuously”. 6Say: “The Qur’an has been revealed by the One Who knows the secret of the Heavens and the Earth. Surely, He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful”. 7,8And those deniers said: “What kind of messenger he is that he eats, walks in the streets? Why has not an angel been sent down to him? Thus he would have a Warner beside him! Or why has not a treasure been sent down to him or a garden been given to him to eat from?”. Those who associated Allah with others; who did deeds against their own benefit said: “You only follow a possessed one”. 9See what kind of examples they bring forward to compare with you! Then they have gone astray now and cannot find the righteous path. 50And surely We have explained everything in various ways for them to receive admonition but most of the people still insist on denying. 51If We had wished We would surely have sent a Warner to every city. 52Then do not obey those infidels who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] and
  • 2. 2 fight against them for the sake of Allah, make your best efforts against them with Furqan! 10So Generous is He that if He had wished He could have given you all that is better than the treasury and the garden they are bragging about; He could have given you Jannah [Heaven/Paradise], under which rivers flow; He could have built for you palaces. 11They have actually denied the Qiyamat [the Day of Judgment]. And We have prepared a blazing fire for those who deny the Qiyamat. 12When that blazing fire sees them from afar, they shall hear its fury and roar. 13And when they are thrown into a cramped place in Jahannah [Hell], their hands are tied to their necks, they shall beg for instant death. - 14Beg for not one but many deaths today! – 15Say: “Is this torture or Jannah [Heaven/Paradise] that has been promised to those who have surrendered themselves under the guardianship of Allah better as a reward or punishment for what has been done?”. 16For them is there what they wish, eternally. – This is a commitment which is adopted by your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] to be done. – 17And on that day, your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] will gather them and their idols, which they have adopted from among those who are inferior to Allah and say: “It was you who led my servants stray from the righteous path or did they lose the way?”. 18And those fake idols will say: “We hereby exonerate You from all deficiencies. It does not suit us to adopt helpers, guides and protectors from among those that are inferior to You. But You had bestowed their ancestors too much of Your blessings so they abandoned the Admonition/the Scripture and became a people that was doomed to destruction”. 19Here, your idols have refuted you for what you say. So you are unable to avert and to get help. And those of you who associate Allah with others thus doing wrong; doing deeds against their own good, We will make them taste a great agony. 20Before you, We indeed sent messengers who did eat, walk in bazaars. And We made some of you a tool for jeopardy so as to purify some of you. – Will you have patience? – And your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] is the One Who sees all. (42/25; Al-Furqan/1-9, 50-52, 10-20)
  • 3. 3 Division: 97 21And those who did not expect to meet Us said: “Angels/natural forces should have been sent upon us” or “Should we have not seen our Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]?” Surely, they became arrogant and transgressed more and more. 22On the day on which they shall see the angels; on that day, no good tidings will be for those sinners. And those who do not expect to meet Us will say: “It is forbidden, yes indeed!”. 23And We prevented whatever those, who did not expect to meet Us, did and converted into scattered dust particles. 24The Companions of Jannah [Heaven/Paradise] will, on that day, be better in their abode and finer in the places to rest. 25And on that day, the heavens will be split open with clouds and angels [rays, radiation and meteors] will be sent down in successive order. 26On that day, the actual dominion will belong to the Rahman [Allah; The One Who is the Most Merciful Towards His Creations on the Earth]. It will be a tough day for infidels; for those who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]. 27-29An on that day, those who have been doing wrong by associating others with Allah; doing deeds against their own good, will bite their hands and say: “O woe to me! If only I had followed the Messenger’s path! O woe to me! If only I had not accepted that one as influential leader. Surely, he made me stray from the Admonition/the Scripture after it had come to me. And Satan is truly a humiliator for the man!”. 30And the Messenger said: “O my Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! Surely, my people have taken this Qur’an as an isolated/abandoned thing”. 31And thusly, We made one of those sinners an enemy for each Prophet. Then your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer], the Guide and the Helper is sufficient for you. 32Infidels; those who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] said: “Should the Qur’an have not been revealed to him at once?”. We sent it down division by division so as to place it deeply in your heart. And We revealed it part by part/without disarranging.
  • 4. 4 33And for each problem they submitted to you, We indeed revealed to you the truth and the most eloquent explanation. 34Those who will be gathered in Jahannah [Hell] on their faces; yes they are the worst in position and the most perverted in their practices. (42/25; Al-Furqan/21-34) Division: 98 35And surely We handed over to Moses the Scripture and appointed his brother Aaron as his companion, assistant and supporter. 36Then We said: “Go to those people who deny Our Ayat!”. Ultimately, We disintegrated and destroyed those people who denied Our Ayat. 37We drowned the people of Noah when they had denied the messengers and made them evidence/sign for the humanity. And We prepared a severely painful punishment for those who associate Us with others; who do wrong deeds against their own good. 38And We destroyed and demolished the people of Ad, Thamud and many generations between them. 39And We gave to all of them examples and destroyed them. 40And surely, they went to that region that had been showered with rain of destruction and evil. So, had they not seen it? Quite the opposite, they did not expect to be resurrected. (42/25; Al-Furqan/35-40) Division: 99 41,42And when they see you, they mock you and say: “Is this the one who is sent by Allah as the Messenger? Had we not insisted on worshipping our gods, he would have led us stray from our gods”. And when they taste the agony soon, they shall know who has gone astray the farthest! 43Have you seen/thought about the one who adopted his evil feelings and desires as his god? Or will you be his Wakil [Advocate]? 44Or do you really think that they shall heed the Wahy [Revelation] or use their thinking ability? They are like animals. Truly are they more astray/confused/inferior than the animals.
  • 5. 5 (42/25; Al-Furqan/41-44) Division: 100 45,46Have you not seen how your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] extended the shadow? Had He wished, He would surely have rendered it motionless. Then We made the sun evidence for him. Then We pulled it towards us with an easy pull. 47And He is the One Who makes the night a gown for you and the sleep the comfort. And He is the One Who makes the day a spread. 48,49And He is the One Who sends the winds as bringers of good tidings before His mercy. And We rain a pure water from the Heavens to revive a rather barren land, provide water for all animals and humans which We created. (42/25; Al-Furqan/45-49) Division: 101 53And He is the One Who has released the two seas; that water is sweet and quenches the thirst and the other one is salty and bitter. And He is the One Who sets a barrier in between them thus barring them from mixing. 54And He is the One Who has created a human population from water and made them relatives by means of lineage and marriage. And your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] is the Most Competent. 55Yet they worship such idols rather than Allah, which cannot do them benefits or bring harm to them. And that infidel; that one who consciously denies the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] makes his best efforts to be against your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]/to lead His servants astray. 56And We have sent you as the Bringer of Good Tidings and as the Warner. 57Say: “I do not demand a payment for all this whatsoever. I only want to have you to follow the righteous path that leads to your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]”. 58And you trust the Ever-Living One and praise and exonerate Him from all deficiencies. The Ever-Living One is sufficient for His servants, knowing all their sins.
  • 6. 6 59He is the Ever-Living, the One Who created the Heavens, the Earth and all that lies between them in six steps, then dominated the great throne of heavens,131 He is the Most Merciful for His servants on this world. Then, ask the one who knows this very well. 60And when they were told: “Prostrate and surrender to Rahman [the Most Merciful upon His creations on this world]!”, they said: “And who is this Allah, the Most Merciful upon His servants on this world? Why should we prostrate to which you order us?”. And the order for prostration and surrender increased their hatred. (42/25; Al-Furqan/53-60) Division: 102 61Generous is the One Who created constellations in the Heavens and placed the moon among them, illuminating like an oil lamp! 62And He is the One Who makes the day and night follow each other for those who are able to take the admonition and wish to return their gratitude for that which has been bestowed upon them. 63And servants of Rahman [the Most Merciful upon all His creations on this world], servants of Allah are such humble people who say “Salam! [Peace be upon you]” when those ignorant tease them. 64Servants of Rahman [the Most Merciful upon all His creations on this world] surrender to their Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] and overnight serving their duties of servitude. 65,66And servants of Rahman [the Most Merciful upon all His creations on this world] say: “O our Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! Avert from us the wrath of Jahannah [Hell]! Indeed, its wrath is an eternal destruction. What an evil headquarters, an evil residence is it!”. 67And servants of Rahman [the Most Merciful upon His creations on this world] neither waste nor withhold; there has been established a balance between. 68-71And servants of Rahman [the Most Beneficent] do not worship any other idols along with Allah. They do not kill a soul that is forbidden by Allah. – They only kill by right. – They refrain from adultery. – And those who commit these sins will meet a punishment. Many times the agony will be for those on the Qiyamat [Day of Judgment] and they shall stay there forever, being humiliated. But those who repent, believe and do good deeds will be spared. Thus, Allah turn their evil deeds to good. And Allah is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful. And whoever repents and does good deeds, his repentance will surely be forgiven and he will return Allah. –
  • 7. 7 72And servants of Rahman [the Most Beneficent] do not testify to falsehood, and when they come upon a trivial matter they pass with dignity. 73And servants of Rahman [the Most Beneficent] are reminded of the evidence/signs of their Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer], they shall not act like they are blind and deaf. 74And servants of Rahman [the Most Beneficent] say: “O our Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! Grant/bestow us such wives and successors who will bring comfort to us. And render us a leader for those who surrendered themselves under the guardianship of Allah!”. 75,76And servants of Rahman [the Most Beneficent] will be rewarded with an eternal life in the Highest places in Jannah [Heaven/Paradise] for their patience, and they shall be welcomed with respect and peace [Salam]. – What a beautiful headquarters and residence it is! – 77Say: “Did you really think that my Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] would care about you if not for your cries so you did not bother to pray and deny Him? Now your rejection and denial will be an inseparable part of yours and you will not be able to evade this”. (42/25; Al-Furqan/61-77) 130 In this Ayah, the furqan [distinguishing between the good and the evil, beauty and hideousness] nature of the Qur’an is emphasized. As we previously explained in the Surah Al- Mursalat, being one of the names of the Qur’an, furqan is derived from the term farq, which means “to separate two things apart”, and means the same as the word fariqa. When its commonly used meanings are examined, it can be found that the words derived from the term farq; tafriq, firaq, firqat, firqah, fariq; are used for concrete concepts [perceptible]; while the terms; fariqat, faruq and furqan are used for abstract concepts. Since the term furqan that is said to be given to Moses in the Official Mushaf: Surah Al- Baqara/53 and Al-Anbiya’/48 separates the abstract concepts truth and superstitious, faith and curse, beauty and ugly, good and bad, it is also used as a name of the Qur’an. 131 See Footnote No. 37, 52
