SURAH AT-TUR (THE MOUNT)
MECCAN PERIOD
Division: 354
1-8By the levitation of the Tur [Mount], all Scriptures sent down by Allah
which are written on a spread thin hide,
And by the prosperous house of Allah; prevention of destruction of the Kaaba
by the Companions of the Elephant,
And manipulation/destruction of the people of Ad and Thamud,
And drowning of the people of Noah, the Pharaoh and his chiefs, and
punishment of the people of Sheba with flood,
Desertification of many nations as Thamud under drought by drying out of
their lakes and rivers that wrath of your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer] will surely come and no one can prevent it.313
9,10On that day, the Heavens will shake dreadfully and the mountains will move
forward.
11,12O woe to those who enjoy with trivial affairs!
13-16On that day, the deniers shall be thrown into the Fire of Jahannah [Hell]. –
This is the Fire you have been denying! Then, is it sorcery too? Or, do you not see?
Lean over it! Whether you have patience or not does not make a difference for you
now. You will be recompensed for what you did!-
(76/52;
At-Tur/1-16)
Division: 355
17-20Surely, those who surrender under the guardianship of Allah will abide in
Jannah [Heaven/Paradise], relaxing on the chairs given by their Rabb [Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] and enjoying themselves; they shall be in
abundant blessings. And their Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]
will spare them from the wrath of Jahannah [Hell]. And We will pair them with
large-eyed ones. –“Enjoy, eat and drink for your deeds!”.-
2
21And as for those who believed and descendants of whom followed them; We
will join their descendants with them. We will not reduce their good deeds. Everyone
will retain what he earned.
22We will provide them with the fruits and meat they desire in abundance.
23They shall share a chalice that is free from vain talk, nonsense and sin.
24And around them will revolve young boys who belong to them; they are like
pearls hidden in mother of pearl.
25-28They shall turn to each other and ask: “We were indeed fearful among our
families. Allah favored us and protected us from the penetrating fire. Surely, we used
to invoke Him. Surely, He is the Most Beneficent and the Most Forgiving”.
29Then preach them! You are not an oracle, possessed/a madman thanks to
your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer].
30Or do they say: “He is a poet; we wait him to hit by the calamities of the
time”?
31Then say: “Wait, I wait with you too”.
32Do their thinking ability command them or they are transgressors?
33,34Or do they say about that which has been revealed: “He invents them”?
Indeed they disbelieve. Then let them bring such a truth if they are righteous.
35Or they were created by nothing? OR are they creators?
36Or did they create the Heavens and the Earth? Indeed, they do not have
certain knowledge thereof.
37Or treasures of your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]
are with them? Or do they dominate?
38Or do they have a stairway to Jannah [Heaven/Paradise] to which they listen?
Then let their listener bring a manifest evidence.
39OR, daughters are for Him and sons are for you?
40Or, do you demand payment from them and they have burdened with debt
because of this?
41Or, the unseen, the unheard, the unfelt, the past and the future are with them
so they write it down?
3
42Or, do they intend to plot a heinous plan? Yet the infidels; those who
consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]; they are the victim of the heinous plan.
43Or, there is another god for them beside Allah? Exonerated is Allah from that
which they associate with Him.
44And should they see a part of the Heavens falling, they would say: “These are
clouds piled upon each other”.
45Then, leave them alone until they shall meet the day when they shall faint and
collapse.
46On that day, their heinous plots will not avail them and they shall not be
helped.
47Indeed, a painful punishment will be for those who do wrong; act against
their own good by associating others with Allah, yet most of them do not know.
48,49And have patience for the judgment of your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer]. You surely are before Our eyes. And when you arise, during
a part of the night and while stars go down, exonerate your Rabb [Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] from all deficiencies with His praise. Indeed,
exonerate Him from all deficiencies!
(76/52; At-Tur/17-49)
313 The literal meaning of the Ayah is as follows: “By the Tur [Mount], the Scripture that
is written on spread thin hide [parchment], the prosperous house, raised ceiling, filled/ignited seas that
wrath of your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] will surely come and no one can
prevent it”.
