Phonetics is the study of how sounds are produced using parts of the body like lips, teeth, tongue, pharynx and lungs. It focuses on the relationship between these articulators and the sounds produced. There are three main branches of phonetics: articulatory phonetics studies sound production, auditory phonetics studies sound transmission from speaker to listener, and acoustics phonetics studies sound perception by the listener.
