Plot = subject
The main character in this poem (the speaker) is an old woman who is sitting
alone in her parlor thinking about her life. Her thoughts are secretive. She is a
sad person. She does not have friends. She has a sharp imagination and the
ability to communicate with nature. She is a hesitant person because she
cannot decide if she can join the wind or not.
The Wind: It is a powerful natural force. It is the antagonist in this poem
because she was trying to force her through threats sometimes to join her. It is
represented as a human being. Basically, the wind is presented as an evil
character.
Imagination is rewarding to the human mind.
The human mind is like a stage for thoughts whether internal or external.
There is a woman sitting alone in her house. The wind invited her to join her in
the woods. The wind was trying to seduce the woman to join her. The woman
rejected the invitation. The wind told her that it used to be her childhood
friend and it will accompany her everywhere. The woman insisted that she will
not be lured by the wind’s music. The wind finally told her that it will be her
only friend to the end of her life, even in her grave.
