2. Introduction
There has been a continuous struggle between the
needs of the individual and the external forces
since time immemorial. During the course of life
a person meets several problems and failures,
needs to solve them and learns from those
problems. As long as an individual is directed
towards achievement of his goals and his needs
are satisfied, he remains adjusted, failing this, he
may drift towards mental illness such as
aggression, maladjustment, emotional instability
etc. Therefore, frustration and adjustment
should be accepted as a usual course of life and
are inevitable.
3. Need of the study
There is a feeling among some people and even
among a section of teachers also that people enter in
teaching profession with hope, enthusiasm and vigor,
but something in the system of education itself or
the social and economic environment of the school
demoralize them, reduce their interest and produce
psychologically unfavorable attitude towards the
profession. Due to increasing burden of teachers in
higher secondary schools there is an urgent need to
attempt to examine and resolve certain basic issues
regarding teachers with special reference to
frustration and professional adjustment. The
investigator thus attempts to study reactions to
frustration and professional adjustment among
higher secondary school teachers of Bareilly District.
4. Significance of the study
The study will provide more information towards:
An understanding of frustration theory in general.
A better understanding of the reactions to
frustration of higher secondary school teachers.
A better understanding of professional adjustment
among teachers of higher secondary schools.
The reference presented in the study can be
useful to future researchers to understand the
concept of frustration & professional adjustment.
Study can be useful to know & remove the type
of frustration lying in higher secondary school
teachers.

6. Operational definitions
•FRUSTRATION: Frustration may be defined as
emotion produced when someone is blocked from
reaching goals
•PROFESSIONAL ADJUSTMENT: Professional
adjustment means being adjusted to one's
profession.
•HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS:
Teachers who are teaching in twelfth standard.
• REACTIONS TO FRUSTRATION: Reactions
means types of behaviors shown by the teachers in
different given situation.

7. Objectives of the study
1. To asses and evaluate the degree of frustration
among higher secondary school teachers of Bareilly
District.
2. To find out the difference in frustration among
higher secondary school teachers of Bareilly District
with reference to-
a. Gender
b. Teaching experience
c. Locality
d. Stream of teaching
e. Type of Institution
f. Caste
3. To find out the reactions to frustration among
higher secondary school teachers of Bareilly District
with reference to (Demo. variables given in obj.2)

9. Hypothesis of the study
Ho1- There will be no significant difference between
quantity of frustration among higher secondary school
teachers on the basis of –
a. Gender b.Teaching c.Locality d.Stream of teaching
e.Type of institution f.Caste
Ho2- There will be no significant difference in reaction
to frustration among higher secondary school
teachers. (On the basic of demographic variables
given in hypothesis no.1)
Ho3- There will be no significant inter association
among different reaction to frustration of higher
secondary school teachers.
10. Ho4- There will be no significant difference in
professional adjustment of higher secondary school
teachers. (On the basic of demographic variables given in
hypothesis no.1)
Ho5- There will be no significant relationship between
reaction to frustration and professional adjustment of
higher secondary school teachers of Bareilly District.
Ho6- There will be no significant difference in
professional adjustment of higher secondary school
teachers with respect to: Classroom situations Colleagues

11. Delimitations of the study
1. The study is delimited to only higher secondary
school teachers.
2. The geographical area is restricted to Bareilly
District only which is in U. P
3. Higher secondary school of Bareilly District will
be taken as a sample for studying relations to
frustration and professional adjustment.
4. There may be many reactions to frustration but
the reactions to frustration taken in the present
study are only four which are Aggression,
Regression, Fixation and Resignation.
12. Research methodology
Research Technique: Descriptive survey
method.
Population: The population for the purpose of
the study has been defined as the total number
of teachers teaching in higher secondary
schools of Bareilly District.
Sample: The investigator will select an intact
random sample of teachers from various higher
secondary schools of Bareilly District. Initially
the sample of teachers will be of 600 -800
members who will be categorized on the basis
of gender, locale, stream, teaching experience
& type of institution.
