The On Campus Housing Lottery Essay
Anxiety inducing, overly–complicated and a huge frustration are just some of the ways Syracuse
University students described the on–campus housing lottery. But when it comes down to it, is there
a better way?
The first email from housing comes in January, freshman are just beginning their second semester
when housing asks them to to begin thinking about housing for the following year. The email
touches on advanced payment opportunities, eligibility checks and your bursar account. At this,
point students are unlikely to do more then skim through it, but months later, it will be a huge issue.
Syracuse University has a two year on–campus living requirement. This makes the housing lottery
so critical for many rising sophomores, who are often dead set on a dorm before they receive that
seemingly premature email in January.
The process for room selection is not overly complicated. Students are randomly assigned a number
(this varies from year to year, in 2016 students without a requirement were given numbers 1–3999
and those with were given from 4000 up.) Then there are selection rounds based on how many
roommates you intend to have. When it is your desired round, students put down their intended
roommate(s). If you and the intended roommate(s) match up, your numbers are averaged and you
are given a time to select your room.
Still many students find it confusing. Megan Shelton, a rising sophomore, wanted to live with one
other girl. However, she misunderstood that there

Narrative Essay On Sooulsca Place
This weekend was one of the best weekends I've had in College. This weekend I attended something
called SOULscape, a 2 day program about your life; purpose, vulnerability and gratitude.
SOULscape took place at Minnowbrook Conference Center, near Blue Mountain Lake.
I first heard about SOULscape through a friend of mine. She sent me a link to the application and it
seemed amazing, so I applied. A few days ago, I got an email saying that spots this year were full,
but I was placed on the alternate list. I wasn't sad or upset about it because I hadn't really given it
much thought. On Thursday, October 20th, I received an email saying that a few spots had opened
up and if I was still interested in going. I went through the e–brochure and website ... Show more

A bowl of french onion soup and mashed potato really ticked the box for comfort food. After lunch,
we sat in a circle near the fire place at the main lounge and introduced ourselves to our fellow
soulscapers and also spoke about why we applied to SOULscape. It was really inspiring because
people really opened up about why they were there. I mean, it does take something to open up about
your personal life to a group of people you barely know. As people spoke about serious issues like
self harm, mental health and depression as reasons for themselves, I began questioning my reason
for being there. It made me come closer with reality. It made me realize that things like violence,
abuse, self harm that I read about are actually real issues that people struggle with. That moment I
realized that, that experience was going to be extremely enriching. I wasn't afraid to open up about
why I was there, I spoke about anxiety and how I sometimes struggled with anxiety. It wasn't
awkward or uncomfortable to open up to a group of strangers, especially in that environment. I
honestly felt as if people could understand me and they could empathize and relate with

College Recruitment Analysis
The recruiting process is a long, rigorous road. It is set complete with AP courses, standardized
testing prep, emails, volunteer work, scholarships, and tied together with the hopes of becoming the
next big athletic star. Despite seeming incredibly difficult, being admitted into a college for athletic
capability is surprisingly high. According to Forbes Magazine, "it has increased almost 23% from
1999 to 2014. Sixty–three percent of recruitment athletes have a higher chance to be accepted and
graduate from college in comparison to 61% non–athletic students." However, the apparent ease of
being a college recruit, is not all that simple. The college recruiting process is long and confusing

Furthermore, students should have a genuine interest in the school. It is not worth playing for a
university's team if they do not like the school. Monte Vista senior John–Austin Ricks, a future
player for the Syracuse University soccer team explains, "I committed to Syracuse University for
soccer. I chose Syracuse because it checked off all of my boxes, it was a perfect size, social aspect
of the school was what I was looking for, I have family close by, they have my major, it is a top 5
soccer programs currently, and my sister also goes to the school. I'm looking forward to meeting
new people and the soccer season." Junior Karissa Hayes, who committed to University of San
Diego for soccer agrees that finding the right school is one of the most important steps. "The most
important thing I realized during my process of recruitment was where in the country, I actually
wanted to be, for me, it had to do a lot with the weather," Hayes said, "Another thing was waiting
for the right school, a lot of athletes want to rush into things and be recruited as quickly as possible.
It's important to understand that your ideas of what you want in a college may change over time, so
it is better to wait things

Students With Disabilities Act Of The United States
As of late Syracuse University has been home to a large protest group known as THE General Body.
This group's aim is to bring about change in multiple areas on campus, one of which is disability
services. THE General Body has pointed out that this university does not fully meet the
requirements stated by the Americans with Disabilities act of 1990. Throughout their list of
grievances THE General Body goes through very specific examples of what needs to be changed. It
is their hope that Syracuse University will recognize these issues and work toward an acceptable
solution. If the University can achieve this, any changes made will greatly improve the school as a
whole.
In 1990 a bill was passed called the Americans with Disabilities ... Show more content on

The first area of accommodations needed to be altered is physical. As THE General Body points out
there are many areas on campus that are not completely accessible to those with disabilities. The
groups main concerns are with Falk college, bathroom accessibility, and in some cases a complete
lack of access into a building. In the full list of grievances THE General Body shares that while
under construction, an auditorium was purposefully not made to meet ADA code. When asked, a
contractor involved in the renovation admitted that creating the necessary changes would be too
expensive. Although this is the only example of a lack of a physical accommodation due to finances
mentioned in the list of grievances, it can almost be assured that there are numerous instances
mirroring this one. The next architectural issue discussed is the lack of handicap bathrooms in dorms
higher than the first floor. This prevents students with disabilities to be mixed throughout floors
while living on campus, and having the same social opportunities as anyone else. Lastly it is
mentioned that some areas on campus are completely or partially inaccessible to those with
disabilities. Some examples given are The financial aid office and the bursar's office. Each one of
these can be vital to a students time at Syracuse and need to available to all students.
The next set of accommodations needed to be provided are

Asbestos Betwee Case Study
Having already established the basis of a theoretical outlook as well as the social history of asbestos,
which is still produced and used in American manufacturing, we will now move on to explain the
methods we are using to collect our data. For our subject area, we have selected Oneida–Herkimer,
Jefferson, Oswego, and Onondaga County Solid Waste Facilities located in Upstate New York, and
we will be exploring the differences in how asbestos is disposed of in each of these counties. We
chose these counties because our insider has had direct contact with the solid waste management
bosses of these counties and can easily obtain asbestos information. We believe this is best because
it limits under reporting of asbestos amounts in fear of public exposure. Furthermore, he has a case
study we hope to analysis on the differences in the removal of asbestos from Jefferson and Oswego.
We plan to find this out by using an interview process to collect our data. We will gather information
by way of interviews with leaders from the New York State Department of Labor as well as landfill
operators in each of the five counties listed above. We hope to analyze the discrepancies and pitfalls
regarding disposal of asbestos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Theme Of Damon And Pythias
I believe that the story "Two Friends" has presented friendship more realistically than "Damon and
Pythias". The reason I believe this is because "Damon and Pythias" is a Greek legend. According to
the Oxford English Dictionary, the term "legend" is defined as "A traditional story sometimes
popularly regarded as historical but not authenticated."(oxforddictionaries.com). This definition
suggests that the story is not authenticated, which means it may contain false and made up contents.
This is contrary to the definition of reality. Therefore, the fact that "Damon and Pythias" is a greek
legend makes the story unrealistic and not able to present a realistic friendship. On the other hand,
the story "Two Friends" is a story set during a real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In "Damon and Pythias", the tyrannical Dionysius challenged the friendship between Damon and
Pythias. Dionysius forced Damon and Pythias into a situation where Damon could have betrayed
Pythias. Dionysius described Pythias' faith toward his friend Damon as "foolish faith"(Russell,
1231). This quote suggests that Dionysius is a force against the friendship in the story. On the other
hand, in the story "Two Friends", the forces that opposed the friendship between the two gentlemen
were the Prussian soldiers. The Prussian soldiers challenged the friendship between the two
gentlemen by forcing them to confess the truth about the password while pulling them away from
each other. If the gentleman did so, then it would have resulted in betrayal. For example, this is a
quote from the Prussian officer: "Quick, the password? Your friend won't know."(Silber, 1239). This
quote shows evidence of the Prussian soldier attempting to make the friends betray each other. In
conclusion, both stories showed forces opposing friendship. The tyrannical Dionysius was the force
that challenged the friendship in "Damon and Pythias", and the Prussian soldiers were the forces that
challenged the friendship in "Two

Syracuse University Benefits
Prior to attending Syracuse University, in another word, during my senior year of high school career,
I was striving for all difference kinds of "academic success" that would strengthen my resume and
increase the possibility of me being accepted by better college. Such "academic success" contains
high SAT score, 4.0 GPA, abundant extra–curricular activities, including the ones that I personally
will not be interested in ever. All I aspired after was the chance of attending a prestigious college,
with no reasons; I deliberated about nothing in regard to why attending a prestigious college would

The story of Alice Sebold's memoir begins with her as a freshman at Syracuse University and the
scene in which she is brutally raped. Sebold writes in vivid detail on how the rape went throughout
the beginning of the chapter. She was walking back to her dormitory through a park during
nighttime when she was suddenly assaulted and raped by a black man. After the traumatizing
experience, she makes her back to her dorm where she told her friends about the rape. One of her
roommate's black friends gives her a hug in order to apologize on behalf of the black men and to
make her not judge them as rapists due to the incident. After meeting with her friends, they take her

Sebold further explains her feelings about the rape. She says how people did not see her the same
way because she was "ruined" or "tainted." She goes through a series of encounters with people
where she felt isolated from them because they did not know what to say to her or did not think she
was the same person as before. Even through all of the isolation, she still decides to return to
Syracuse. Everyone who knew about her rape felt uneasy towards her and tried to stay away from
her. She begins taking hard–to–get–in classes such as a poetry workshop with Tess Gallagher and a
writing workshop with Tobias Wolff. She starts to become fairly close to Mrs. Gallagher after
showing her a poem that she wrote about the feelings she had for her rapist because Gallagher
actually understood how she felt. One day on her way to Wolff's class, she spots her rapist on
Marshall Street and has an encounter with him. He asks her if he had seen her somewhere before but
she ignored him and continued to walk. She notifies the police and the rapist, soon identified as
Gregory Madison, is arrested. The story later develops into whether or not she wanted to testify her
rape case since many rape victims would rather not continue and just leave everything in the past.
Sebold, on the other hand, wants to testify and agrees to press charges and to actually be a witness in
the triel. She

My Moment Of Epiphany At Upstate Medical University
My moment of epiphany came when I started working for Upstate Medical University's Student
Affair Department in their Student Success Center as an Office Manager. The Student Success
Center focuses on underrepresented medical students through its CSTEP Program. As an Office
Manager, I have had the pleasure with working with the medical students and upper faculty
members. I have developed a camaraderie with a number of medical students. Many of the medical
students come to me to converse about challenges or obstacles that they have had to encounter
and/or hurdles they need to overcome. I truly believe my students come to me because I have a
benevolent attitude and assiduously work ethic that they have observed. Although, I am not a
counselor I appreciate that they feel comfortable to confide in me and these are extra responsibilities
that I have embraced has a mentor and an advisor to my students. Then, I had this" aha moment,"
that I should do more investment in myself and be a role model for these students as a Higher
Education Administration Admission faculty member. While I was pondering about where to go for
my Master's Degree in Higher Educating Administration my options were limited. I needed a

Personal Narrative: My Acceptance To Syracuse University
My first weekend has been filled with new experiences and the forming of new friendships. Upon
receiving my acceptance to Syracuse University, I was excited but worried about whether I would be
able to make friends or allow my shyness to affect my participation in activities. Despite this I
managed to participate in my favorite event of the entire Welcome Weekend, Citrus in the City.
Traveling as a group, my roommate, Joe and I walked to Schine to meet up with all the other
students waiting for the buses taking us to downtown Syracuse for the events. I was reluctant to go,
feeling out of place, not knowing others who would be attending the event. Convincing me to go, we
arrived in front of Schine, Joe immediately pointed out some of his friends. He introduced me to
them as his new roommate. One of his friends, began making jokes about how it must be to have Joe

issues such as sexual orientation. One sketch that caught my attention was a rap from two of the five
comedians. One was black and the other was Caucasian. They both spoke on issues that seemed to
be important to that specific race. The African–American spoke of racial discrimination and the
struggle to attain equality while the Caucasian spoke of parking spaces and ice cream. This opened
my eyes to how these issues remain important and how they may be taken seriously by some while
others focus on less important issues. I believe this was meant to help us understand that in order for

The Erie Canal Essay
In The Artificial River, Carol Sheriff describes how when the digging of the Erie Canal began on
July 4, 1817, no one would have been able to predict that the canal would even be considered a
paradox of progress. One of the major contradictions of progress was whether or not triumphing art
over nature was even considered progress. People were not sure during the nineteenth century if
changing the environment for industrialization was necessarily a good thing. Another contradiction
to progress that resulted from the Erie Canal was when people started holding the state government
responsible for all their financial misfortunes. An additional contradiction to progress that the Erie
Canal displayed was how many of its workers were either ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They believed humans should appreciate and use nature instead of destroying it. Since the earth had
been made by God, humans did not have the right to change the landscape of the earth.
Unfortunately for people such as Hawthorne, the majority of people did not consider the damage to
the environment as a major issue. They thought that it was only a small part of the natural world,
and they were only changing it to make the world a better place to live. They also believed that the
Erie Canal would provide people a better way to view nature's beauty, since people hardly ever went
into the wilderness just to observe the natural world. Another major way the Erie Canal was a
paradox was that it the New York state government started taking on new responsibilities. This
resulted in many people depending on the state government of New York and Canal Board in
helping them reach financial success. While the canal was being built, there were constant
complaints of how the canal made a person lose business. The New York state government was
building the canal to spur economic activity, and now they were being blamed for the canal
decreasing so many people's profit. Obviously the canal would not have helped everybody in New

This places Nikeratos in the middle of the political turbulence involving Dionysios the Younger and
the rule of Syracuse. Faction fights begin which result in Dionysios exiling Dion. Plato is moved
into a house in Palace Park where Dionysios can keep a watchful eye on him. Nikeratos is also
forced to end his traveling around the country because of the fighting. Plato is later released when
the Carthaginians attack and war begins.
After several years, peace is declared. This is good news for Nikeratos and other actors because
tours can now be scheduled again. This allows Nikeratos to once again travel and interact with the
powerful people of the era. At the same time, Dionysios is resolved to have Plato return. Dionysios
uses Plato's loyalty to Dion as a method of manipulation. Dion encourages Plato to return to
Syracuse in the hope that Plato can secure his own return. When Plato refused to return to Syracuse,
where he is hated and threatened by the soldiers, his relationship with Dion becomes strained.
Eventually, as the pressure Dionysios and Dion put on his friends builds, Plato agrees to return.

Effectively Managing a Warehouse
EFFECTIVELY MANAGING A WAREHOUSE There a few things to put into consideration when
it comes to warehouse management without which realizing profits and productivity will be
impossible. This involves the tasks associated, the responsibilities and tasks. They may as well
include things like shipping, purchasing, receiving, controlling inventory, storage, receiving, and
merchandise distribution. Based on the circumstances, you may be in charge of employees and
yearly evaluations and ascertaining that all employees adhere and operate in harmony with the

Method 1 Make warehouse safety first priority This is achieved by simply maintaining a neat, clean
and well organized warehouse at all cost and in all times so as to ensure the safety of the warehouse.
Ensure that the warehouse floor has no any spillages in terms of water, oil, unwanted products that
are potentially harmful or even cause slippage. Let all carton traffic areas, plastic wraps and other
debris that may cause unnecessary accidents. Present a warehouse safety program that suits your
needs and strictly make sure that all employees in the warehouse attend the program before they

Having spent the majority of that day at work counseling and planning for a client with suicidal
ideation, my father's phone call instantly put me on alert. Unfortunately, this was not the first time I
received this call regarding my mother. Manic depression has been a lifelong battle and this was her
third suicide attempt. However this time was different; this time, I knew how to react and how to
help her.
My undergraduate majors at Syracuse University were psychology and forensic science. As part of
the curriculum, I took a variety of classes such as abnormal psychology and forensic mental health,
all of which taught me a great deal about mental illness. Book knowledge in hand, I then applied
myself to hands–on training through multiple internships during college and a full–time job as a
psychiatric counselor after graduating in 2014.
In 2011 and 2013, I had two summer internships with Cornerstone Montgomery: the first working in
the Life Skills Program, and the second working in their 24–hour crisis residential facility. While
working in the Life Skills Program, I fostered my interest in working with those who suffer from
severe and persistent mental illness. I taught my clients' skills needed for rehabilitation including
eating healthy on a budget, basic computer skills, and medication management. When I returned to
Cornerstone Montgomery in 2013, they asked me to intern in

Hiram Miller—a Essay
Yizhou Xu Section 002 Case: Hiram Miller–A
I, the general manager of Hiram Miller Chicago branch, am considering we should have something
done with our current warehouse on Jefferson Street. The basic problem is that the 60–year–old
warehouse is not capable for our daily business from many aspects any more as we move into the
21st century. Due to many limitations, the shortcomings to run that warehouse are overwhelming the
advantages it remains. Small size, inefficient layout, obsolete facilities, low–tech equipments and
bad working environment are dragging our company down within such an intense competition ...

The quality of the warehouse and the equipments can be improved if we whitewash the warehouse
and replace some old machines with the news. The working environment will be polished up and
make the work more efficient, meanwhile, will not change the basic operating structure. For
example, good condition elevators can eliminate the battle between the shipping and receiving
departments. The second choice is finding a third–party warehouse which meets our basic
requirements. We can utilize third party to manage the warehouse and reach our goal as well.
Finally, we can build a new warehouse near the O'Hare Airport where has ample of land so that we
can construct a warehouse fully meets our requirements. For our long–term benefits, I strongly
suggest to build a new warehouse near the airport. Renovation is a short–term solution and just
keeps our business work normally and I cannot believe how long that old–fashion building would
maintain. The core problems are the weak floor and the low ceilings which cannot be restructured.
Those will constrain heavy equipment to move in. The work needs to be done by hand which means
slow and more workers. On another hand, if we rent a warehouse rather than own by ourselves, we
will lose the control of the warehouse even though it solves our problems. Thus, the effective
communication and the specialized service may be the problems. Despite of sacrificing the
advantages of inner city location like vicinity of our

University 's Production The Boys From Syracuse
In the month of September, I watched Emory 's production The Boys From Syracuse. The show
itself displayed an array of characters with distinctive characteristics and acting. I think the actors
exhibited vocal power, variety, and range through the course of the story by altering their voice to
express pride, uncertainty, and raucousness among other moods. The singers, in particular, were
good at displaying power through their voice and were expressive in their singing. One character
that had excellent vocal control and ability was Minka Wiltz who played Luce. Throughout the play,
she displayed good control over her expressiveness with her voice and had a wide range of tone
from very low and deep to high pitched exclamations. I think that the vocal choices supported the
script and the characters ' actions pretty well. I was able to understand what was going on and the
emotions the characters were going through. I wish I was able to practice and experiment more with
my voice. For the midterm scene, there was mostly one emotion going through my mind as I was in
character: annoyance... and possibly exasperation. There was not a great variety of emotion in that
one scene. However, during in–class exercises, I think that I am able to experiment more thoroughly.
Right now I am okay with my vocal strength, range, and flexibility, although I do see room for
improvement especially in expressiveness in adapting to the script. If I were to continue acting I
would like to play with lines

Syracuse University Admission Essay
Syracuse University is an outstanding place of higher education. It provides a diverse, stimulating,
and exciting classroom, and one that truly teaches its students how to live a life of value. Syracuse's
level of diversity promotes understanding and tolerance in all, helping to eliminate racism and
religious intolerance in its student body. Its stimulation helps to encourage its students to "always
seek the light of truth," as the words of the High School National Honor Society pledge echo.
Students are always encouraged by the university to expand their knowledge, and to never stop
learning. The feeling of enthusiasm on campus, provided not only in the classroom, but also through
Syracuse's wide selection of on–campus activities, such as Division I athletics, clubs, and service
organizations, teaches students to seek opportunities to live a full and meaningful life. This is what I

Some houses are condemned with boarded up windows and doors.
Some houses have trash and bicycles and children's toys lying in the yard. The houses in the city are
very large and sit close together with long, narrow driveways separating properties.
Small front yards and detached garages are seen set behind the houses. There are a number of
vehicles parked in the streets and in driveways. Sidewalks line the streets with people walking to
and from multiple destinations. Public transportation provided by Centro Bus Service is very visible
with many bus shelters and bus stop signs readily available. The Valley Community
Center has basketball courts and playgrounds, mostly utilized in the summer months by youths.
The Outskirts of Syracuse, towns like Liverpool, are more suburban. Grocery stores, offices, gas
stations, fast foods, retail chains like Home Depot, Target, Walmart, Bed Bath and

with suburban neighborhoods tucked away within a few miles from these areas.

What Is The Theme Of Damon And Pythias
"Two Friends" is historical fiction with the background being the Franco Prussian War. M. Sauvage
and M. Morissot are two friends who lived during this harsh and cruel war. They have similar tastes
like fishing and drinking. "...they understood one another admirably without saying anything..."
(Maupassant, 1234). This quote shows that these two friends are mentally connected, which means
they have common behaviors that enable them to be closer to each other. Slowly, a trustworthiness is
built between them. When the Prussian soldier asked them for the password, they both preferred to
keep silent. "The two friends, side by side, pale, kept silent." (Maupassant, 1239). Whether there is a
password or not, neither of them have the mindset to escape ... Show more content on

Sauvage and M. Morissot. They were accused of being spies for the French military. According to
the German solders, the two friends would need a password to enter that area. The German officer
asked for the password in order to pardon them. They were cruel and severe with no mercy. "'...If
you refuse, it is immediate death. Choose.'" (Maupassant, 1239). The officer behaved violently and
threatened the two friends with death. Under this pressure, the two friends still preferred to keep
silent. At last, "The officer shouted, 'Fire!' The twelve shots rang out together." (Maupassant, 1239).
In "Damon and Pythias", a tyrant called Dionysius ruled Syracuse. He was not popular with the
people because of his unjust cruelty. When Pythias asked for leave for a few days before his
execution, the tyrant didn't trust him. "Dionysius, the hardhearted tyrant...would not allow him to
leave unless he left behind him a hostage, someone who would be put to death in his place..."
(Russell, 1230). His close friend, Damon,a accepted to be the hostage. While waiting for Pythias'
return, Dionysius frightened Damon about Pythias' delay. However, at the eleventh hour, Pythias
arrived and saved his friend. "...by the faithful love they bore to each other, conquer the hard heart of
a tyrant king..." (Russell, 1231). This trustworthy behaviour between these two friends inspired the
tyrant. He canceled Pythias' execution. What's more, he begged the two

What happens when the world's largest green building will also be the world's largest shopping
mall? You get a building fueled by renewable energy that harbors within its walls unsustainable
patterns of consumption. This green mall, Destiny USA, is expected to open in Syracuse, New York.
Destiny is a proposed $4.2 billion project that will use green building technology to create a
complex that will be home to an amphitheater, an aquarium, 500 retailers, 20,000 hotel rooms, and a
65–acre glass enclosed rooftop park (Destiny USA Website).

This technology could spread to the rest of Syracuse and would be a way to introduce concepts of
sustainability to people who visit Destiny. Sounds like a good plan, but in reality might fall short of
its goals. Carl and Greg both felt that this project will fail, and that its failure will be attributed to its
green design, not the project's other characteristics. This could negatively affect other, smaller–scale
'green' projects. These types of projects would be deemed risky investments and scare away
potential investors, which would make the investment capital that is crucial to the start up of these
projects hard to come by.
An estimated 40 million people will visit Destiny annually–12 million from out of state (Destiny
USA Website). Since Destiny's father, Pyramid CEO Bob Congel, repeatedly states that he wants
Destiny to be fossil fuel–free, it is ironic that plans include enormous parking garages and lots. How
will all of these millions of consumers reach Destiny? They will come by automobile. It is
ridiculous to espouse that this project will be fossil fuel–free.
Michael said that this project, despite its pro–environmental aspects, does not challenge the
fundamental problems facing our society, which include unsustainable levels

Graduation Speech : A College Student
After living at Syracuse University for the first semester I have done things both inside and outside
of my comfort zone as I have adjusted to life as a college student. I used to cheerlead throughout
high school for both the basketball and football seasons, so attending my first football game in the
Dome was something I easily crossed off my checklist within the first week of being a college
student. From freshman year to senior year of high school, I had attended every single football and
basketball game, whether I wanted to be there or not. As a member of the varsity cheer team, at
every single game I cheered on my school and learned the basics of each sport. The second I
received my acceptance letter in the mail, I asked my parents to purchase me the season tickets for
all of the Syracuse football and basketball games. Although I do not necessarily love all sports, the
idea of going to every football and basketball game was a goal of mine to show my school pride and
get the full experience of college. One of my requirements when searching for the right college for
me was a lot of school spirit and sports, along with educational requirements, all of which Syracuse
fulfilled. I had been talking to my dad about the first football game the car ride here on move in day
and he tried to explain to me what the atmosphere of the Dome was actually like. On Friday
September 2nd I attended my first home football game as a college student against Colgate and got

Descriptive Essay About Seeing The World
At the Syracuse Hancock International Airport, I feel like I have the whole world right at my
fingertips. I am surrounded by people who are both so similar yet so different from me. This place is
just the stepping stone to the final destination of happiness. There are people of different race,
identifying with a different religion, with back stories that I will never ever get to hear. Walking into
this airport, I feel as light as a feather. I have so many options of flight within one airport, even
though my plane ticket only lists one final destination. The desire to explore the world is prominent
in both my heart and mind. I want to see the different ranges of people within different areas and see
the beauties of different sections of the world. I clear through TSA and suddenly, the whole world is
open to me; from the simple little Dunkin Donuts greeting me to the different terminals leading to
planes ready to fly thousands of people all over the place, I feel as if I am ready to see everything.
The bright lights leading around the halls and to the gates accompany us, and I just want to get on a
plane and take off. I dream of seeing the world, whether I have other people with me or not, and I
dream of the possibilities that lay before me. Seeing the different people and listening to them talk
about their lives makes me want to learn and see more. In New York, I feel limited. I want to break
free. Travelling is something for me, and I really feel like it can provide so many

My First Image Is Syracuse University And It Represents A...
My first image is Syracuse University and it represents a college or university. My first question or
subtopic is what is the definition of college and I believe this is a general representation of how a
college looks. It shows a broad overview of the campus and I chose this picture instead of others
because it stood out to me. As a high school senior I went on numerous amount of college tours; and
if the college campus looks appealing it made me think twice about attending. If the buildings are
old fashioned, and the campus doesn't look nice then a student may not want to attend that school.
My second image shows about 6 or 7 college textbooks stacked on top of each other with the dollar
sign next to it. This is a metaphor to the true meaning of college, which is college wants an
exuberant amount of money from its students for such a small return investment. They want students
to pay for 5 to 6 textbooks each semester which is absurd because college textbooks can cost
students $500 to $700.
My third image represents the average college student. Each college student at certain point in the
semester goes through a time where they feel like giving up because the work becomes
overwhelming. As a college student I sometimes wonder if this is all going to be worth the stress
and hard work. Trying to balance extra curricular activities, classes, and work is a lot for someone to
handle, so being stressed out and overwhelmed is a natural feeling.

Plagiarism : Playing With Fire Essay
Albert Dominguez

Comp and Rhet.
23 October 2016
Plagiarism: Playing with Fire Accuracy is one of the main aspects that makes people take
information seriously. Without accuracy one will never know the truth. Some teachers can go from
saying Christopher Columbus did not find America to saying he found America and raped and killed
numerous of Indian women. Or some people may state that the President does not have executive
powers to instead declaring the President 's ability to bypass congress. Another situation that can
happen is a straight A student can get kicked out of college or gets sued for plagiarism. Accuracy
will make us as Americans, at least in a perfect world, proceed further in life and succeed more. One
of the many times in American history that cheating made a person go far in life was when Joe
Biden plagiarized an assignment, received an F in that class, and then became the Vice President of
the United States (Doinne, 1987). Then there is the reporter from the Washington Post, Janet Cooke,
who fabricated a false story into an article about an eight–year–old boy that was a heroin addict and
later was publically humiliated by everyone (Cooke,1980). Accuracy depends on how credible of a
source an individual use. Accuracy is everything in a person's life. Accuracy is essential for
trustworthiness of non–fiction writing . That shows the importance of having accurate statements.

A Great Mistake Of The Athenians
This was a great mistake of the Athenians, as Thucydides claims, 'most of them (Athenians) being
ignorant of its (Sicily) size and of the number of its inhabitants, Hellenic and barbarian, and of the
fact that they were undertaking a war not much inferior to that against the Peloponnesians'. So,
Athens undervalued Sicily and overvalued their (the Athenians) greatness. Nicias tried to warn
citizens about the wealth and strength of the Sicilian states – enemies they would have to challenge,
and insisted on a great preparation and investments in the expedition to make it possible. He also
added: 'Indeed, even if we leave Athens with a force not only equal to that of the enemy except in
the number of heavy infantry in the field, but even at all points superior to him, we shall still find it
difficult to conquer Sicily or save ourselves'.
The preparation for the expedition began and the departure to Sicily took place. It worth saying that
all Athenians were taking part in preparation, the government and citizens did their best. 'Indeed this
armament that first sailed out was by far the most costly and splendid Hellenic force that had ever
been sent out by a single city up to that time'.
Alcibiades, one of the generals of the expedition, had a lot of enemies in Athens, due to his luxury
life and desire to get as much fame as possible. So, before the departure of expedition his enemies
tried to do everything to implicate him in scandals and expose. All in all Alcibiades was

The Erie Canal : Aspects Of The Artificial River
Shelby McVey
Ms. Taylor
D.C U.S History
25 October 2017
Aspects of the Erie Canal The idea of an artificial river, otherwise known as the Erie Canal, broke
ground in the year 1817. Many marveled at the ease and complexity the Canal provided, linking a
series of port towns together for trade. The Canal brought an economic boom, along with a boost in
moral from the New Yorkers living and working along the route. However in an effort to not change
the rural lifestyles of those within the Canal route, a "Paradox of Progress" was set into place,
according to the author of "The Artificial River", Carol Sheriff. While the Canal developed, America
itself was still in its early stages of coming together and establishing means of life as well. An idea
of "Free Republican Men" spread throughout the states, especially in New York, where this sense of
freedom applied to all except the Irish immigrants working themselves to death building the Canal
itself. This Artificial River represented a false sense of freedom, a boost of moral, and the true
meaning of the words "business man". The Canal created a major economic boom, not only for the
upstate area, but for the United States in general. The possibility of owning land on or near the Erie
Canal enticed hundreds of thousands of people, luring them to the upstate area. From this, a sense of
economic security was brought to the area. One of the major keys to the economic success of the
Canal was the use of tax collectors. The tolls

When the Canal was built towns all along the route from Buffalo to Albany prospered from the
revenue and the attraction the Canal brought with it. Whether the Canal was being used for business
people, immigrants, settlers of the region, or tourists, the border–towns all had some appeal to these
persons. After some time the state was continually asked to expand the Canal from the original route
to include connecting canal routes. However, the same towns along the route from Buffalo to
Albany had already been established along the lines of the original canal. These towns would need
to be relocated in order to obey these new requests. This presented a major problem because the
people in these towns had formed a life around the Canal and many of them made their income
based of the Canal. The inhabitants of the towns changed their mentality from not wanting the Canal
to invade on their lives, to it being an essential part of their lives they depended upon. The Erie
Canal provided an extremely fast source of transportation compared to other ones of that time. A lot
of the land that the Canal went through was uninhabited and therefore people weren't able to move
through these areas. Once the Canal was built it served as that pathway through these areas. The
Canal also was a much cheaper source of transportation that was used by residents, tourists,

The On Campus Housing Lottery Essay

  • 1. The On Campus Housing Lottery Essay Anxiety inducing, overly–complicated and a huge frustration are just some of the ways Syracuse University students described the on–campus housing lottery. But when it comes down to it, is there a better way? The first email from housing comes in January, freshman are just beginning their second semester when housing asks them to to begin thinking about housing for the following year. The email touches on advanced payment opportunities, eligibility checks and your bursar account. At this, point students are unlikely to do more then skim through it, but months later, it will be a huge issue. Syracuse University has a two year on–campus living requirement. This makes the housing lottery so critical for many rising sophomores, who are often dead set on a dorm before they receive that seemingly premature email in January. The process for room selection is not overly complicated. Students are randomly assigned a number (this varies from year to year, in 2016 students without a requirement were given numbers 1–3999 and those with were given from 4000 up.) Then there are selection rounds based on how many roommates you intend to have. When it is your desired round, students put down their intended roommate(s). If you and the intended roommate(s) match up, your numbers are averaged and you are given a time to select your room. Still many students find it confusing. Megan Shelton, a rising sophomore, wanted to live with one other girl. However, she misunderstood that there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Narrative Essay On Sooulsca Place This weekend was one of the best weekends I've had in College. This weekend I attended something called SOULscape, a 2 day program about your life; purpose, vulnerability and gratitude. SOULscape took place at Minnowbrook Conference Center, near Blue Mountain Lake. I first heard about SOULscape through a friend of mine. She sent me a link to the application and it seemed amazing, so I applied. A few days ago, I got an email saying that spots this year were full, but I was placed on the alternate list. I wasn't sad or upset about it because I hadn't really given it much thought. On Thursday, October 20th, I received an email saying that a few spots had opened up and if I was still interested in going. I went through the e–brochure and website ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A bowl of french onion soup and mashed potato really ticked the box for comfort food. After lunch, we sat in a circle near the fire place at the main lounge and introduced ourselves to our fellow soulscapers and also spoke about why we applied to SOULscape. It was really inspiring because people really opened up about why they were there. I mean, it does take something to open up about your personal life to a group of people you barely know. As people spoke about serious issues like self harm, mental health and depression as reasons for themselves, I began questioning my reason for being there. It made me come closer with reality. It made me realize that things like violence, abuse, self harm that I read about are actually real issues that people struggle with. That moment I realized that, that experience was going to be extremely enriching. I wasn't afraid to open up about why I was there, I spoke about anxiety and how I sometimes struggled with anxiety. It wasn't awkward or uncomfortable to open up to a group of strangers, especially in that environment. I honestly felt as if people could understand me and they could empathize and relate with ... • 5. College Recruitment Analysis The recruiting process is a long, rigorous road. It is set complete with AP courses, standardized testing prep, emails, volunteer work, scholarships, and tied together with the hopes of becoming the next big athletic star. Despite seeming incredibly difficult, being admitted into a college for athletic capability is surprisingly high. According to Forbes Magazine, "it has increased almost 23% from 1999 to 2014. Sixty–three percent of recruitment athletes have a higher chance to be accepted and graduate from college in comparison to 61% non–athletic students." However, the apparent ease of being a college recruit, is not all that simple. The college recruiting process is long and confusing with a plethora of recruiting rules that vary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, students should have a genuine interest in the school. It is not worth playing for a university's team if they do not like the school. Monte Vista senior John–Austin Ricks, a future player for the Syracuse University soccer team explains, "I committed to Syracuse University for soccer. I chose Syracuse because it checked off all of my boxes, it was a perfect size, social aspect of the school was what I was looking for, I have family close by, they have my major, it is a top 5 soccer programs currently, and my sister also goes to the school. I'm looking forward to meeting new people and the soccer season." Junior Karissa Hayes, who committed to University of San Diego for soccer agrees that finding the right school is one of the most important steps. "The most important thing I realized during my process of recruitment was where in the country, I actually wanted to be, for me, it had to do a lot with the weather," Hayes said, "Another thing was waiting for the right school, a lot of athletes want to rush into things and be recruited as quickly as possible. It's important to understand that your ideas of what you want in a college may change over time, so it is better to wait things ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Students With Disabilities Act Of The United States As of late Syracuse University has been home to a large protest group known as THE General Body. This group's aim is to bring about change in multiple areas on campus, one of which is disability services. THE General Body has pointed out that this university does not fully meet the requirements stated by the Americans with Disabilities act of 1990. Throughout their list of grievances THE General Body goes through very specific examples of what needs to be changed. It is their hope that Syracuse University will recognize these issues and work toward an acceptable solution. If the University can achieve this, any changes made will greatly improve the school as a whole. In 1990 a bill was passed called the Americans with Disabilities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first area of accommodations needed to be altered is physical. As THE General Body points out there are many areas on campus that are not completely accessible to those with disabilities. The groups main concerns are with Falk college, bathroom accessibility, and in some cases a complete lack of access into a building. In the full list of grievances THE General Body shares that while under construction, an auditorium was purposefully not made to meet ADA code. When asked, a contractor involved in the renovation admitted that creating the necessary changes would be too expensive. Although this is the only example of a lack of a physical accommodation due to finances mentioned in the list of grievances, it can almost be assured that there are numerous instances mirroring this one. The next architectural issue discussed is the lack of handicap bathrooms in dorms higher than the first floor. This prevents students with disabilities to be mixed throughout floors while living on campus, and having the same social opportunities as anyone else. Lastly it is mentioned that some areas on campus are completely or partially inaccessible to those with disabilities. Some examples given are The financial aid office and the bursar's office. Each one of these can be vital to a students time at Syracuse and need to available to all students. The next set of accommodations needed to be provided are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Asbestos Betwee Case Study Having already established the basis of a theoretical outlook as well as the social history of asbestos, which is still produced and used in American manufacturing, we will now move on to explain the methods we are using to collect our data. For our subject area, we have selected Oneida–Herkimer, Jefferson, Oswego, and Onondaga County Solid Waste Facilities located in Upstate New York, and we will be exploring the differences in how asbestos is disposed of in each of these counties. We chose these counties because our insider has had direct contact with the solid waste management bosses of these counties and can easily obtain asbestos information. We believe this is best because it limits under reporting of asbestos amounts in fear of public exposure. Furthermore, he has a case study we hope to analysis on the differences in the removal of asbestos from Jefferson and Oswego. We plan to find this out by using an interview process to collect our data. • 11. Theme Of Damon And Pythias I believe that the story "Two Friends" has presented friendship more realistically than "Damon and Pythias". The reason I believe this is because "Damon and Pythias" is a Greek legend. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the term "legend" is defined as "A traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical but not authenticated."(oxforddictionaries.com). This definition suggests that the story is not authenticated, which means it may contain false and made up contents. This is contrary to the definition of reality. Therefore, the fact that "Damon and Pythias" is a greek legend makes the story unrealistic and not able to present a realistic friendship. On the other hand, the story "Two Friends" is a story set during a real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In "Damon and Pythias", the tyrannical Dionysius challenged the friendship between Damon and Pythias. Dionysius forced Damon and Pythias into a situation where Damon could have betrayed Pythias. Dionysius described Pythias' faith toward his friend Damon as "foolish faith"(Russell, 1231). This quote suggests that Dionysius is a force against the friendship in the story. On the other hand, in the story "Two Friends", the forces that opposed the friendship between the two gentlemen were the Prussian soldiers. The Prussian soldiers challenged the friendship between the two gentlemen by forcing them to confess the truth about the password while pulling them away from each other. If the gentleman did so, then it would have resulted in betrayal. For example, this is a quote from the Prussian officer: "Quick, the password? Your friend won't know."(Silber, 1239). This quote shows evidence of the Prussian soldier attempting to make the friends betray each other. In conclusion, both stories showed forces opposing friendship. The tyrannical Dionysius was the force that challenged the friendship in "Damon and Pythias", and the Prussian soldiers were the forces that challenged the friendship in "Two ... Syracuse University Benefits Prior to attending Syracuse University, in another word, during my senior year of high school career, I was striving for all difference kinds of "academic success" that would strengthen my resume and increase the possibility of me being accepted by better college. Such "academic success" contains high SAT score, 4.0 GPA, abundant extra–curricular activities, including the ones that I personally will not be interested in ever. All I aspired after was the chance of attending a prestigious college, with no reasons; I deliberated about nothing in regard to why attending a prestigious college would be beneficial to me because what I have thought at all time was highly ranked college would offer me a higher stage of better future job opportunity. The story of Alice Sebold's memoir begins with her as a freshman at Syracuse University and the scene in which she is brutally raped. Sebold writes in vivid detail on how the rape went throughout the beginning of the chapter. She was walking back to her dormitory through a park during nighttime when she was suddenly assaulted and raped by a black man. After the traumatizing experience, she makes her back to her dorm where she told her friends about the rape. One of her roommate's black friends gives her a hug in order to apologize on behalf of the black men and to make her not judge them as rapists due to the incident. Sebold further explains her feelings about the rape. She says how people did not see her the same way because she was "ruined" or "tainted." She goes through a series of encounters with people where she felt isolated from them because they did not know what to say to her or did not think she was the same person as before. Even through all of the isolation, she still decides to return to Syracuse. Everyone who knew about her rape felt uneasy towards her and tried to stay away from her. She begins taking hard–to–get–in classes such as a poetry workshop with Tess Gallagher and a writing workshop with Tobias Wolff. She starts to become fairly close to Mrs. Gallagher after showing her a poem that she wrote about the feelings she had for her rapist because Gallagher actually understood how she felt. One day on her way to Wolff's class, she spots her rapist on Marshall Street and has an encounter with him. He asks her if he had seen her somewhere before but she ignored him and continued to walk. She notifies the police and the rapist, soon identified as Gregory Madison, is arrested. The story later develops into whether or not she wanted to testify her rape case since many rape victims would rather not continue and just leave everything in the past. My Moment Of Epiphany At Upstate Medical University My moment of epiphany came when I started working for Upstate Medical University's Student Affair Department in their Student Success Center as an Office Manager. The Student Success Center focuses on underrepresented medical students through its CSTEP Program. As an Office Manager, I have had the pleasure with working with the medical students and upper faculty members. I have developed a camaraderie with a number of medical students. Many of the medical students come to me to converse about challenges or obstacles that they have had to encounter and/or hurdles they need to overcome. • 21. Personal Narrative: My Acceptance To Syracuse University My first weekend has been filled with new experiences and the forming of new friendships. Upon receiving my acceptance to Syracuse University, I was excited but worried about whether I would be able to make friends or allow my shyness to affect my participation in activities. Despite this I managed to participate in my favorite event of the entire Welcome Weekend, Citrus in the City. Traveling as a group, my roommate, Joe and I walked to Schine to meet up with all the other students waiting for the buses taking us to downtown Syracuse for the events. I was reluctant to go, feeling out of place, not knowing others who would be attending the event. Convincing me to go, we arrived in front of Schine, Joe immediately pointed out some of his friends. He introduced me to them as his new roommate. One of his friends, began making jokes about how it must be to have Joe as a roommate. This broke the ice and allowed me to open up more and even make a few jokes myself. We boarded the buses and headed to downtown Syracuse. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within each sketch, many issues were addressed including, racial stereotypes, politics and current issues such as sexual orientation. One sketch that caught my attention was a rap from two of the five comedians. One was black and the other was Caucasian. They both spoke on issues that seemed to be important to that specific race. The African–American spoke of racial discrimination and the struggle to attain equality while the Caucasian spoke of parking spaces and ice cream. This opened my eyes to how these issues remain important and how they may be taken seriously by some while others focus on less important issues. The Erie Canal Essay In The Artificial River, Carol Sheriff describes how when the digging of the Erie Canal began on July 4, 1817, no one would have been able to predict that the canal would even be considered a paradox of progress. One of the major contradictions of progress was whether or not triumphing art over nature was even considered progress. People were not sure during the nineteenth century if changing the environment for industrialization was necessarily a good thing. Another contradiction to progress that resulted from the Erie Canal was when people started holding the state government responsible for all their financial misfortunes. They believed humans should appreciate and use nature instead of destroying it. Since the earth had been made by God, humans did not have the right to change the landscape of the earth. Unfortunately for people such as Hawthorne, the majority of people did not consider the damage to the environment as a major issue. They thought that it was only a small part of the natural world, and they were only changing it to make the world a better place to live. They also believed that the Erie Canal would provide people a better way to view nature's beauty, since people hardly ever went into the wilderness just to observe the natural world. Another major way the Erie Canal was a paradox was that it the New York state government started taking on new responsibilities. This resulted in many people depending on the state government of New York and Canal Board in helping them reach financial success. While the canal was being built, there were constant complaints of how the canal made a person lose business. A large number I gathered in the summer of junior year Due to my interest in the Civil War, I applied for and received a scholarship to attend The Civil War Institute Summer Conference at Gettysburg College. I found myself with ten other kids my age who were as fascinated in the Civil War as I was and were as excited to talk and learn about it as I was. We were from all over the country and we were all intensely interested in the topic we had come to learn even more about. My first year at Syracuse University was eventful, however now as I right this essay, I can only foresee that there's going to much more ahead of me as I continue my education and reach for my goals. I consider myself a dreamer, and an ambitious one at that. When I set my mind to something there's no doubt that it'll get done or happen. While last year I was on the deans list twice – and plan to be on it again this year, wrote a major article for a campus magazine, and volunteered for a mentor organization, I felt like there was a lot more I could and should be doing. Walking into my sophomore year I told myself that I wanted to be more involved, get out on campus and do things. I have not hesitated joining activities and organizations since then. Currently, I am a writer for three magazine publications on campus: Renegade Magazine, Mixtape Mag, and Femme Noire. I joined these magazines because I enjoy writing and they give me an outlet to write about things outside the classroom and things that relate to the world around me. Plato is later released when the Carthaginians attack and war begins. After several years, peace is declared. This is good news for Nikeratos and other actors because tours can now be scheduled again. This allows Nikeratos to once again travel and interact with the powerful people of the era. At the same time, Dionysios is resolved to have Plato return. Dionysios uses Plato's loyalty to Dion as a method of manipulation. Dion encourages Plato to return to Syracuse in the hope that Plato can secure his own return. Having spent the majority of that day at work counseling and planning for a client with suicidal ideation, my father's phone call instantly put me on alert. Unfortunately, this was not the first time I received this call regarding my mother. Manic depression has been a lifelong battle and this was her third suicide attempt. However this time was different; this time, I knew how to react and how to help her. My undergraduate majors at Syracuse University were psychology and forensic science. As part of the curriculum, I took a variety of classes such as abnormal psychology and forensic mental health, all of which taught me a great deal about mental illness. In 2011 and 2013, I had two summer internships with Cornerstone Montgomery: the first working in the Life Skills Program, and the second working in their 24–hour crisis residential facility. While working in the Life Skills Program, I fostered my interest in working with those who suffer from severe and persistent mental illness. The working environment will be polished up and make the work more efficient, meanwhile, will not change the basic operating structure. We can utilize third party to manage the warehouse and reach our goal as well. Finally, we can build a new warehouse near the O'Hare Airport where has ample of land so that we can construct a warehouse fully meets our requirements. For our long–term benefits, I strongly suggest to build a new warehouse near the airport. Renovation is a short–term solution and just keeps our business work normally and I cannot believe how long that old–fashion building would maintain. The core problems are the weak floor and the low ceilings which cannot be restructured. Those will constrain heavy equipment to move in. The work needs to be done by hand which means slow and more workers. On another hand, if we rent a warehouse rather than own by ourselves, we will lose the control of the warehouse even though it solves our problems. The show itself displayed an array of characters with distinctive characteristics and acting. I think the actors exhibited vocal power, variety, and range through the course of the story by altering their voice to express pride, uncertainty, and raucousness among other moods. The singers, in particular, were good at displaying power through their voice and were expressive in their singing. One character that had excellent vocal control and ability was Minka Wiltz who played Luce. Throughout the play, she displayed good control over her expressiveness with her voice and had a wide range of tone from very low and deep to high pitched exclamations. I think that the vocal choices supported the script and the characters ' actions pretty well. I was able to understand what was going on and the emotions the characters were going through. I wish I was able to practice and experiment more with my voice. For the midterm scene, there was mostly one emotion going through my mind as I was in character: annoyance... and possibly exasperation. There was not a great variety of emotion in that one scene. • 61. My First Image Is Syracuse University And It Represents A... My first image is Syracuse University and it represents a college or university. My first question or subtopic is what is the definition of college and I believe this is a general representation of how a college looks. It shows a broad overview of the campus and I chose this picture instead of others because it stood out to me. As a high school senior I went on numerous amount of college tours; and if the college campus looks appealing it made me think twice about attending. If the buildings are old fashioned, and the campus doesn't look nice then a student may not want to attend that school. My second image shows about 6 or 7 college textbooks stacked on top of each other with the dollar sign next to it. This is a metaphor to the true meaning of college, which is college wants an exuberant amount of money from its students for such a small return investment. They want students to pay for 5 to 6 textbooks each semester which is absurd because college textbooks can cost students $500 to $700. My third image represents the average college student. Each college student at certain point in the semester goes through a time where they feel like giving up because the work becomes overwhelming. As a college student I sometimes wonder if this is all going to be worth the stress and hard work. Trying to balance extra curricular activities, classes, and work is a lot for someone to handle, so being stressed out and overwhelmed is a natural feeling. The fourth image is a simple ... Plagiarism : Playing With Fire Essay Albert Dominguez Dr. Grubic Comp and Rhet. 23 October 2016 Plagiarism: Playing with Fire Accuracy is one of the main aspects that makes people take information seriously. Without accuracy one will never know the truth. Some teachers can go from saying Christopher Columbus did not find America to saying he found America and raped and killed numerous of Indian women. Or some people may state that the President does not have executive powers to instead declaring the President 's ability to bypass congress. Another situation that can happen is a straight A student can get kicked out of college or gets sued for plagiarism. Accuracy will make us as Americans, at least in a perfect world, proceed further in life and succeed more. One of the many times in American history that cheating made a person go far in life was when Joe Biden plagiarized an assignment, received an F in that class, and then became the Vice President of the United States (Doinne, 1987). Then there is the reporter from the Washington Post, Janet Cooke, who fabricated a false story into an article about an eight–year–old boy that was a heroin addict and later was publically humiliated by everyone (Cooke,1980). Accuracy depends on how credible of a source an individual use. Accuracy is everything in a person's life. Accuracy is essential for trustworthiness of non–fiction writing . • 65. A Great Mistake Of The Athenians This was a great mistake of the Athenians, as Thucydides claims, 'most of them (Athenians) being ignorant of its (Sicily) size and of the number of its inhabitants, Hellenic and barbarian, and of the fact that they were undertaking a war not much inferior to that against the Peloponnesians'. So, Athens undervalued Sicily and overvalued their (the Athenians) greatness. Nicias tried to warn citizens about the wealth and strength of the Sicilian states – enemies they would have to challenge, and insisted on a great preparation and investments in the expedition to make it possible. He also added: 'Indeed, even if we leave Athens with a force not only equal to that of the enemy except in the number of heavy infantry in the field, but even at all points superior to him, we shall still find it difficult to conquer Sicily or save ourselves'. The preparation for the expedition began and the departure to Sicily took place. It worth saying that all Athenians were taking part in preparation, the government and citizens did their best. 'Indeed this armament that first sailed out was by far the most costly and splendid Hellenic force that had ever been sent out by a single city up to that time'. Alcibiades, one of the generals of the expedition, had a lot of enemies in Athens, due to his luxury life and desire to get as much fame as possible. So, before the departure of expedition his enemies tried to do everything to implicate him in scandals and expose. All in all Alcibiades was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. College Admissions Essay: My Trip To The Open Home A lot of places consider Syracuse to be a mid–size school, but I come from a town with the population of 2.409 people, so to me Syracuse was huge. That was the one thing that made me reluctant to make the seven hour road trip to the open house. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a shot, and I am so glad it did. Much to my surprise, when I arrived on campus for an open house I did not feel overwhelmed by the size of the school, I felt welcome. As I walked around I started to picture myself sitting in the classrooms and walking down the sidewalks. A phrase I kept hearing throughout the day was "small school feel, large school resources". The more I thought about that the more I realized that that was exactly what I wanted. I wanted a school with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When I think about my future I know right now there are somethings that I want to do, but I also know that my plans are constantly changing. However, there is one constant in my future plans that will never change. I want to be someone worth looking up to, I want to be able to help a little girl know that it is possible to achieve her dreams just like my role models have done for me. I believe that Syracuse University would be a phenomenal first step in my journey to become that person. With the resources the Syracuse provides I know that I will have opportunities to study abroad, to intern, to do research, and to build my resume so that when the time comes for me to graduate I will have even more opportunities to go after. With the education I would receive at Syracuse not only could I become a role model for someone else, but I would also find new role models throughout my education with Syracuse network of professors and alumni who are willing to help me become the best person I can possibly be not only academically, but also ... • 69. The Erie Canal : Aspects Of The Artificial River Shelby McVey Ms. Taylor D.C U.S History 25 October 2017 Aspects of the Erie Canal The idea of an artificial river, otherwise known as the Erie Canal, broke ground in the year 1817. Many marveled at the ease and complexity the Canal provided, linking a series of port towns together for trade. The Canal brought an economic boom, along with a boost in moral from the New Yorkers living and working along the route. However in an effort to not change the rural lifestyles of those within the Canal route, a "Paradox of Progress" was set into place, according to the author of "The Artificial River", Carol Sheriff. While the Canal developed, America itself was still in its early stages of coming together and establishing means of life as well. An idea of "Free Republican Men" spread throughout the states, especially in New York, where this sense of freedom applied to all except the Irish immigrants working themselves to death building the Canal itself. This Artificial River represented a false sense of freedom, a boost of moral, and the true meaning of the words "business man". The Canal created a major economic boom, not only for the upstate area, but for the United States in general. The possibility of owning land on or near the Erie Canal enticed hundreds of thousands of people, luring them to the upstate area. From this, a sense of economic security was brought to the area. One of the major keys to the economic success of the Canal was the use of tax collectors. The tolls ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the Canal was built towns all along the route from Buffalo to Albany prospered from the revenue and the attraction the Canal brought with it. Whether the Canal was being used for business people, immigrants, settlers of the region, or tourists, the border–towns all had some appeal to these persons. After some time the state was continually asked to expand the Canal from the original route to include connecting canal routes. However, the same towns along the route from Buffalo to Albany had already been established along the lines of the original canal. These towns would need to be relocated in order to obey these new requests. This presented a major problem because the people in these towns had formed a life around the Canal and many of them made their income based of the Canal. The inhabitants of the towns changed their mentality from not wanting the Canal to invade on their lives, to it being an essential part of their lives they depended upon. The Erie Canal provided an extremely fast source of transportation compared to other ones of that time. A lot of the land that the Canal went through was uninhabited and therefore people weren't able to move through these areas. Once the Canal was built it served as that pathway through these areas. The Canal also was a much cheaper source of transportation that was used by residents, tourists, emigrants, and workers during this time. Evangelical preachers used the artificial ...
