Location checklist
1. LocationRecce Checklist 1. Castlefield grounds 2. Croydon Road
(House)
3. Castlefield
Is it suitable for the scene? Enough space?
Important mise en scene/points of interest?
There are plenty of trees and can be
used to make it look like it is in a
park/woods.
It is a house so the mise en
scene will fit perfectly. It is
suitable for the scenes.
Yes, there are multiple props
and different rooms with
different set-ups.
What shots would be available? E.g. XLS/Long
shots possible or just tighter framed shots?
Extreme long shots to extreme close-
up shots.
All types of shots. Long shots to close-ups.
Access – do you need permission to film
here? Who from?
The college Yes, from the Homeowners. The college.
Light – how much natural light is there? What
direction from? On a sunny day/cloudy day?
Is additional light needed?
All natural light – trees may block
light if filming in front of them, but
this may be an advantage if it is a very
sunny day.
There are a lot of windows, so
natural light is seen but also
lights in the rooms otherwise
it would be quite dark.
There is not much natural light
in this building but there are
many LED lights that can be
used.
Will weather affect this location? Back up
location?
Yes, but I need to use an outside
location and the trees will block some
of the rain.
No – but may use castlefield if
problems arise.
No.
Noise – what sounds can you hear? Will these
interfere with filming (e.g. sound from
people, traffic, electrical appliances, etc.)
Vehicles and people. It will not
interfere with filming as I want it to
be in a semi-public location and there
is only one line of dialogue being said
in this location.
May hear vehicles in the road
in front but it will be quiet.
May hear noise from other
people filming on the day.
Are there times of day it is best/worst? (e.g.
in terms of access, light, sound, disturbance)
The morning/midday as that is when
it will be the brightest.
Midday as that is when it is
the brightest. But afternoon
will be fine as there are extra
lights.
Any time of the day would be
similar, so it is not that
important.
Safety issues? Uneven grounds, tripping over
branches and maybe the trees if not
looking in the direction you are
walking.
There are stairs, and may be
boxes lying around, but
nothing too serious.
Tripping over wires from
lights.
