Preliminary task evaluation report
1. PRELIMINARY EVALUATION SHEET
Quality of Summary My honest evaluation- whatwas
done well and what was not of good
standard? Try to cite specific
example and moments from your
video
Examples of strategies, good practices
and skillsthatmy group and I will put
into placeand develop to ensure a
main production of high quality.
Quality of holdinga shot steady There were a few unsteady shots,
this was due to the fact that we used
the camera by hand.To help keep a
shot steady, we should of used a
tripod to enhance its stability.
To ensure that our next production
doesn’t make the same mistake,we
will usea tripod to enhance its quality.
Tripods can help support the camera
to generate a steady shot.
Quality of the framingof shots Again, the framingwas quite
unstableas we didn’t usea tripod.
However, as a group we thought that
it was importantto track the shots
alongwith the movement of the
character as ithelps to create a
scene towards the audience.
To help adjustthe framingof the shots
, we would use a tripod again to
enhance it’s quality.
Quality of shootingmaterial
appropriateto the task set- i.e. the
content of your filmpre and post
editing was consistentwith the exam
directives
As a group we wanted to do
something different. We did stick to
the exam objectives,however
instead of justmakingthe scene an
average scene where the character
justsits down and talks to the other
character,we wanted to make the
filmlook more interesting by
constantjump shots to help make
the filmlook a littlebitmore
interesting, as itis importantto open
up a filmwith an interestingopening.
We also had the camera moving
constantly alongwith the characters.
To help our filmpossibly more
accurateto the exam directives,
maybe we should of made our
preliminary task a littlebitmore
simple.Because due to the fact that
whilstfilmingwe had to move around
a lot, it made itlook likeour task
wasn’t consistentwith the exam
directives.
Quality of selectingmise-en-scène
including colour,figure,lighting,
objects and setting;
I would say that due to the type of
scene me and my group created
through this task, the miseen scene
was quiet accurateas itwent well
with the type of setting we put in
placefor this task.For example, at
the startof the film,the characters
body language(when he barges the
boy) helps portray what kind of
approach the filmis taking.
As said before, the mise en scene was
accurateto the setting takingplace
duringthe task. The only thing I would
change, would be the lighting,as I
thought it was a bit too lightfor the
scene we was tryingto portray.Due to
the filmbeing based on suspense, I
think the lightingshould havebeen
more low key to fit in with the scene
as the lightingfor me was too high key
and didn’t fit in the scene as well as it
should of done.
Quality of editing so that meaning is
apparent to the viewer
In regards to editingwe had done a
lot of cuts as itis the most invisible
and looks the most realistic editing
type.
In order to make the cuts more
precise,we will do the cuts bitby bit
as some of the cuts where abitbig
between the scenes of the film.
Quality of usingsound with images and
editing appropriately for the task set;
In regards to the sound at the
background,it set the scene to be
very dramatic and intense (which
was our aim) it also gavethe filma
bit of suspenseinto what could
happen next.
Due to the sound fittingwell with the
scenes, myself and my group will
continue to find the correctsound that
matches the scenes well within the
filmin order to create the right mood
for the scene.
Quality of positioningand movements The positioningof the actors was a In order for a better quality in the
2. of actors bit awkward. I say this becauseI was
one of the actors in this film, some of
the positions thecharacters had to
be in was not all necessarily relevant.
For example, the person who was
filminghad to track the shots of the
movement of the charcter's at the
precisemoment, if he failed to do
that, we would have had to startall
over again.
positioningof characters,we will have
less awkward positions whilstfilming
and less movement of the characters,
as there was a lotof movement. Also,
due to the characters movingaround a
lot, when it came to editing,it was
quiet hard to get the correct position,
due to this,we missed out the shot
that had the linesaying' so,what took
you so long?'.
Quality of group planning,meeting
targets, organization
As a group, we planned to shootthe
filmand finish the editingin five
days, and in order to meet the target
of our deadline,we had to allocate
people in our group with different
roles to ensure that our target would
be met.
Due to the planningand organization
of who's doingwhat in the group, we
will continueto set roles to one
another which will make the task
easier which will therefore enable us
to meet the targets we need to meet
as well as the deadline.
Group dynamics i.e. how did your
group work together
In regards to how well the group
worked, I would say went well.We
were able to allocatepeoplewith
different roles,which meant that
everyone had a fair chanceof
participatingin the film.For example,
I was allocated an actingrole,
alongsideanother person within the
group, another person done the
filmingand another person had done
the storyboard, and as a group we
decided that everyone should have
the opportunity to edit the film.
Due to our group working well,we
decided to work together on the next
task, however, there were four of us,
now there is three. Which means our
group has to work harder in order to
meet our targets.
Other points of evaluation
(E.g. equipment related etc)
A different location of where the task
was filmed would have been more
ideal.BecauseI don't think the
setting was the best location the film
could have been shot.
In the near future, we will takemore
precaution of where we will filmand
take our time with it, as the film
location is very important,as it sets
the scenery.
