1. The first question asked in my questionnaire is 'How old are you?' As the target audience is
very important when it comes to making a magazine. As shown in the chart below which
shows the results the most common answer which people chose was age 16-25 as 29/31
people picked that option meaning that the people who are more likely to purchase my pop
punk magazine will be between those ages. The other two options which were available in my
questionnaire 'below 16' and 'above 25' both got 3.25% whereas 16-25 scored 93.55%. This
means that when I make my magazine im going to set my target audience for people aged 16-
25 and add features which will attract those ages such as compettitons and free posters etc.
2. The second question in my questionnaire is asking about gender, and as shown in the results
below the most popular gender chosen was female with 62.07%. There was three options for this
question other than female there was male which got 37.93% and other with a box to share your
gender which got 0%. From these results I can see that people who are more likely to buy music
magazines are female therefore when making my magazine I will aim to attract females but also
males and other genders as my questionnaire results don’t mean that all my customers will be
female.
3. The third question in my questionnaire is asking the public about their ethnicity, and as shown
below out of the many options the most commonly chosen one was caucasian with 80.65% as
25/31 people selected that box. Although 5 people selected other and 1 person
selected British Pakistani. This shows me that a large porportion of my customers will be
caucasian.
4. The fourth question in my questionnaire is asking the public about their social class, there was
three choices 'lower class' 'working class' and 'higher class'. As shown in the results below the
most popular choice was working class with 77.42% as 24/31 people who answered my
questionnaire are in the working class. 5 people selected lower class and 2 people selected
higher class. By knowing this information it helps me when setting the price off my magazine as I
want to sell it as a price which fits all my customers, therefore as only 2 people selected working
class ill ensure that the price is not expensive and unrealistic but as only 5 people selected lower
class ill set it at a price which will allow me to make a profit.
5. The fifth question on my questionnaire is 'how often do you read music magazines' I put 5
options for the public to choose from as I wanted to ensure that there was a choice for everyone
to pick from. As shown below the most commonly picked answer was 'Whenever they feature an
artist I enjoy' with 41.94% as 13/31 people selected that option and just below that with 11
people and at 35.48% was 'I don’t read them'. This shows me that most people who took part in
my questionnaire do not read music magazines frequently as they are only willing to spend the
money if they feature a band or artist that they are a fan of. This helps me to decide the
frequency of publication.
6. The sixth question in my questionnaire Is asking the public about their favourite music magazines
and which ones they enjoy reading the most. The most popular magazines which got the most
votes were Kerrang! And Rolling Stones as 16/29 people picked Kerrang! And 12/29 people picked
Rolling Stones. This helps me when designing my magazine as I can look at these magazines and
take inspiration to ensure my magazine is the highest possible quality to attract more customers.
The least popular choices were Rocksound and Mojo magazine as only 3 people picked them, this
shows me that majority of the people who took part in my questionnaire either have not heard of
these magazines of don’t like them therefore when making my magazine I will avoid adding
similar features.
7. The next question in my questionnaire is asking the public how much they are willing to spend
when purchasing a music magazine, the most popular choice was £2-£4 at 61.29% and 19/31
people selecting that option. Only 5 people are willing to spend £5 and 6 people said that they
are not willing to pay more than £2. Therefore by these results I am going to set the magazine
price at £2.99 as I think that this will fit a large majority of my customers needs as it is not over
priced or under priced allowing everyone to be pleased.
8. The next question asked in my questionnaire is asking the public what features attract them to a
music magazine there was 5 options to choose from The Masthead, The main image, Colour
scheme, Cover lines or the Positioning statement. As shown in the results below the most
popular answer was the main image as 22/31 people picked that option and the second most
popular answer was the masthead with 14/31 people. Therefore when making my music
magazine I will ensure that these two aspects of the magazine stand out and are unique
attracting a larger range of customers.
9. The next question I asked in my questionnaire was asking the public what free gift they would
prefer to receive in a magazine, I added 4 options for the public to choose from a CD, poster, Gig
tickets or a t-shirt. As you can see from the results shown below the most popular choice was gig
tickets at 54.17%. This means that when I come to creating my magazine the free gift I will use in
my competitions are gig tickets as it will help attract more customers therefore meaning I will
make a larger profit as ill have more people purchasing my magazine.
10. The 10th question in my questionnaire is 'Do you think that a music magazine should have a lot of
photos in' the most popular answer was yes as 26/31 chose that option. As most people who took
part in my questionnaire said yes, when making my music magazine I will ensure that I add
several different images to make the magazine more visually interesting /appealing therefore
attracting more customers into purchasing my magazine.
11. The eleventh question asked in my questionnaire is ' How often would you prefer a music
magazine to be released?' 22/31 people answered monthly and 9/31 answered weekly. As the
most popular choice was monthly that’s how often I will publish my magazine as that’s what
people would prefer. The reason I asked this question was because I wanted to see how many
people would be happy with a weekly publish as if I didn’t ask this question and released a new
magazine every week there could be a lack of customers meaning I would lose profit.
12. The next question in my questionnaire is asking the public how many pages they would prefer in
a music magazine I added three different options as I wanted to make sure everyone could give
their opinion. The most popular choice was 60-100 pages with 64.52% and 20/31 people.
Therefore when making my magazine I will do no more than 100 pages and no less than 60 as
that’s what the public would prefer.
13. The next question in my questionnaire is asking the public about themselves and which genre
of music is there favourite. I added 5 different choices for the public to choose from as shown
down below. The least popular genres were metal and house/EDM therefore I will not feature
any artist/bands who go by these genres as majority of the people reading my magazine will
not be interested. Indie, Pop and punk all got similar scores with indie at 11/31 people pop at
9/31 people and punk at 8/31 people. As all these genres got the highest score I will feature
these in my magazines when doing gig/artist/band reviews and competitions.
14. The next question is once again asking the public who are taking part in my questionnaire about
themselves and which bands they enjoy listening to. Out of the 31 responses I got many
different answers from all different genres of bands such as Little Mix, Green day, Arctic
Monkeys, 5 Seconds of summer etc. The most popular band chosen by the public was The 1975
as 6 people answered them. As The 1975 were the most common band chosen I will
mention them in my music magazine and do a gig review or album review etc as this will help to
attract more people to my magazine as if they are fans of the band they will automatically want
to read the article which they are mentioned in.
15. The next question is asking the public about different bands which fit into the genre Pop punk, I
added a list of popular pop punk bands and asked those doing my questionnaire to tick the bands
which they had heard off. As you can see in the results below the most popular bands were
Paramore as 25/31 said they had heard of them and also Fall out boy as 23/31 people said they
had heard of them. As these two bands got the most votes I will also add them into my music
magazine just like The 1975 as I want to please the customers reading my magazine and ensure
they are aware about the people they're reading about.
16. The sixteeth question in my questionnaire is asking the public how often they attend gigs, the
three different options the public could choose from were 'Never' 'Sometimes' and 'Frequently'
and as shown below the most popular choice was 'sometimes' with 45.16% and 14/31 people.
As only 5 people answered never I will ensure that when making my magazine I involve articles
involving gigs as they are a popular topic which people enjoy. Therefore by talking about gigs I
will attract more customers.
17. The second to last question in my questionnaire is once again about gigs as they are a topic which
people in my target audience enjoy. The question is asking the public if an article on a gig review
would be interesting to them and attract them to purchasing a magazine. As shown below the
most popular choice was yes with 17/31 people and 54.84% therefore I will ensure that there is a
gig review in my magazine as it will allow me to make a larger profit as more customers will be
attracted towards purchasing my magazine.
18. The last question in my questionnaire is asking the public to suggest 3 different colors which they
would associate with the Pop Punk Genre. There was several different colors submitted such as
black, green, red, grey, blue etc. The three most popular colors were black green and red
therefore when making my music magazine I am going to use these colors throughout as my color
scheme.
