The United Stated is a very wealthy nation. With only 5 percent of the world's population, America produces more than 20 percent of the world's
output (Schiller, 2008, p.1). More than half of Americans, including adults and children do not have adequate housing or a place to lay their head at
night. Homelessness has always been an issue for the United States. Since the beginning of this nation, there have been continuous problems with
people who do not have a stable place to live. Many times those individuals stay with family, friends, or any place they can find. Often times when
individuals or families have no family or friends, they often resort to shelters, on the street, motels, abandoned buildings, or in their car if they have
one. The United States is the most influential country in nation; efforts to reduce or remove this epidemic of homelessness should be top priority.
Many people are affected by homelessness such as families, children, and veterans. According to National Alliance to End Homelessness (2016), "In

H.R. Bill 1779 is an amendment to the Runaway and Homeless Youth Act to ratify the bill through the fiscal year 2020. The United States federal
government funds Basic Center Grant programs (BCG), supports safe community shelters known as basic centers. They provide emergency care for
runaway children and homeless youth. The shelter assists with family reunification services offers a bed to sleep in, food, clothing, medical services,
counseling services, and recreational programs. They assist in referral services for aftercare when an individual's 21 days of stay expire (114th

Youth chose to protest because their peers, friends, and family members were being drafted as a part of the Selective Service Act, which forced
American men to register with a local draft board once they became 18 years old (Brannan, "the United States v. O'Brien"). The draft made many
youths upset because they felt that it was unfair that the people they cared about were forced to fight in a war that they did not believe in or want to
fight in, as many felt that the United States soldiers were too harsh towards the Vietnamese who posed no direct threat to the United States. It was felt

the invasion of Cambodia, caused students to hold a rally on May 1st, 1970 and burn down the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) building.
There was another rally 4 days later, which included 2,000 students. The National Guard showed up and opened fire killing 4 students and wounding
9 others. This event became known as the Kent State Massacre (Batchelor, "Kent State Massacre"). The students burned down the ROTC building
because some people would go there and enlist because they knew they were going to get drafted, so enlisting would at least give them the choice to

My Internship On Youth Service America ( Ysa )
Project Update #1 My internship takes place in Youth Service America (YSA), a non
–profit organization based in Washington DC. Since it was
established in 1989, YSA's mission has been to encourage youth to make a positive impact in this world. Furthermore, YSA also focuses on educating
youth about global issues and celebrates young people that are already facilitating change. For my internship, I work twenty hours a week; these hours
are split among three days. This summer, I am working at YSA as a global partnershipsintern. This means that I am working with the partnerships unit,
the unit that works with partners (charities, business, other non–profit organizations, etc.), on a global scale. A generous amount of the work I have
done so far has involved collecting and organizing data through the use of excel sheets. For these projects, I often am given data from YSA's past
sponsored events and told to find information such as the companies name, the number of people involved, and specific dates. In addition to working
with excel, I also write blog posts for the "Everyday Young Hero" section on the YSA website. These posts are meant to highlight and support young

Military service should be mandatory for all American citizens. In lighter terms we could refer to it as the All American Selective Service Act, which

Entitlement. It seems that every American youth believes that they are entitled to call themselves an American. They believe just since they were
born in America they hold the right to call themselves Americans. I believe however, that the right of citizenship must be earned. I believe such is
true after watching, the movie "Starship Troopers." In this sci fi movie people are given the choice to become a citizen by serving two years in the
Federal Service. This does not imply military occupations, but instead offers a wide variety of different jobs. Civilians (non–citizens) must serve a two
year minimum service to their country to receive the right to vote, but once they have finished the service they receive pretty nice benefits. In modern
America I believe this can be accomplished with a minimum of 1 year of national mandatory service.
When people hear "mandatory service" they instantly believe that they will have to serve in the military, but they are wrong. Just this year alone, 5.78

The research question that facilitated our asset map was simply "What social outlets are available for LGBT youth in the greater Los Angeles area?".
We chose this question because the majority of the young people receiving services at our site are homeless, and as everyone knows, homelessness is
a condition that can quickly lead to despair. We firmly believed that locating LGBT–themed social gatherings, groups, and organizations would be an
essential step in pointing these youths towards systems of support that could help make their difficult circumstances more bearable.
Also, it was vital for us to focus only on social outlets that were LGBT–centric––for these young people, being marginalized members of an already
marginalized community, the homeless––have distinct needs that other individuals don't. And when these needs aren't met, the consequences can be
tragic. Research shows that approximately 62 percent of homeless LGBT youth attempt suicide (Center for American Progress, 2010). Before we
began our work, officials at our site informed us that they did not have a list of social outlets for the clients, which made our asset map that much more
important.
We drew the boundaries of the map around the greater Los Angeles area. This decision was made because many of the clients, being homeless, do not
have the means to go far distances. It would have been useless to include social outlets in San Diego, for instance. As far as our criteria for choosing

The Issue Every year over 20,000 children will age out of the foster care system. In most cases they will be eighteen–years–old, however in some state
they can stay until age twenty–one. However, this is voluntary, and many don't stay. Many will become homeless, lose access to school, social support
and financial resources (Fowler, 2017). The number of children aging out is growing as well. From 2008 to 2013 the number grew by four percent
(Rebbe, 2017). In one study of aging out foster children they looked at over 600 children from Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin from 2002 to 2011. By
the end of the study 108 were missing. The results showed that 46% were homeless at least twice throughout they study. Many who claimed not to be

Youth violence, while not as pronounced as in the past, is still alarmingly prevalent in modern America. Many people overlook the fact that youth
violence is a serious issue because violence is usually taken in at a grand scale without age oriented scrutiny. In order to eliminate or diminish the issue
of youth violence, we first need to analyze the contributing factors and causes. In criminology, it is understood that the more institutions that a
particular youth is connected to, the less likely he or she will be to deviate into violence through his or her adolescence. Over 11 million children across

LGBTQ youth from utilizing services. Additionally, concerns were raised about the lack of evidence based information on transgender youth, as well
as a lack of training on LGBTQ youth issues. Providers denounced the use of specialists in LGBTQ issues, but instead insisted that all providers should
be trained to provide services to LGBTQ youth. A common theme in the focus groups was recognizing a mutual responsibility. The providers expressed
frustration that there appears to be a general denial within the community that LGBT youth present, and this seems to be significant when considering
service provision that comes from religious organizations. The study indicates that across the board, agency attitudes have not caught up to social
attitudes or rights. Additionally, they highlighted that the current focus of mitigating risks does not account for promoting appropriate well rounded
services in light of systematic issues. According to a study by Durso and Gates (2012), the most significant barrier to service provision is funding,

Poverty can be difficult for many especially to those who derive from low income families. The effect of poverty on American youth has been a
controversial and has triggered a great debate across not only the poverty reduction proponents and opponents but also society. A clear understanding of
poverty impacts on American based youth is highly imperative for all professionals, welfare organizations and adults called upon to support the
younger generations to come. According to several journals such as Prevention Researcher; the effects ofpoverty are immense among youth. Therefore,

American youth poverty statistical figures reveal that poverty continues to encroach progressively to the youth community. Steven Ungerleider, Ph.D.
and the founding editor of The Prevention Researcher in 1994 discussed information about the effects of poverty on youth in America. Programs that
create supportive based environments for youth, strategies for preventing various problems affecting youth in America and resources that help
youth–serving professionals and families. The main idea behind the objectives of this dissertation is to address the impact of impecuniosity on
American youth (Steven & Wheaton, June 06, 2010). To meet this objective, the research purpose is to critically look into the meaning of poverty and

Poverty is a state of privation or lack of usual socially accepted amount of basic needs or money to meet one's daily needs. The U.S government has
set the poverty threshold that defines poverty among youth as the lack of necessary goods and services commonly termed back the mainstream based
society as a basic. The official youth poverty threshold is embedded on inflation and consumer price index. In 2012, the U.S government revealed that
youth from 58.5 percent of all Americans wallowed in cornucopia of poverty, with those aged 12–25 years old adversely affected. The poverty level

the increase of homeless youth throughout the nation. A large number of homeless young women either run away or are kicked out of their home due
