1. THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT
opening sequence analysis

2. The film opens up with the logo of a production
company. Artisan Entertainment was an American
film studio and home video company. The company
logos can instantly make a viewer decide if they
want to view the film or not.
The title screens of films are used to showcase the
name of their film in a much more effective way than
just text. They use different effects and often link to
the plot of the film. The colour of the text used is
white which stand out from the black background.
3. The text explains when the documentary is set and
where it is set. It also explains to us that the
characters in the film are amateurs filming a
documentary. This also shows that they are
vulnerable. By telling this, the audience might want
to see what was happening through their footage.
The out of focus and extreme close up shot shows a
woman’s face but it is out of focus. She might be one
of the students that did this documentary.
4. A medium close up shot of the woman in casual
clothing and relaxed posture shows us that she is
just a student and are not a professional. The light
that is visible is the light of the room.
The books called “How to stay in the woods” is
showing with another two books as we can see the
full cover page and know what is the title of this
book. By showing these books, it means that they
are going into the wood and they might learn
something from reading this book.
5. The boy shown in this scene might be another
student out of three. This is a dutch angle with the
use of an extreme close up to his face. He is sitting
in the car going somewhere with his friends.
There is a sudden change to black and white as it
shows she is describing the graveyard in that
location. The black and white film grain also adds to
the horrific atmosphere.
