2. Psycho (1960)
Colour and framing:
Psycho was made in the 60’s when TV had started coming into colour
but the whole film was made in black and white. The framing has big
establishing shots to show the location and where the film is set. The
mise en scene in this shot shows that it is a busy city which is Arizona.
Shot types angles and movements:
In the opening we just are shown long panning shots of the location.
Which fade into different areas of the city and they carry onto long
panning shots this gives the audience a feel of the mood and
atmosphere of the city.
Pace of titles and editing:
The titles all in there beginning of the opening. Each new name
comes in with stripes and change this has been edited well with the
music because it keeps a pace.
How characters/place/time is introduced:
The first characters we see is first a women in bed with a short
nightwear this representation of this character is shown as sexy and
seductive because she's in bed also we can see from her hair that it is
retro Marilyn Monroe and this shows the audience which time this was
set in.
How do they utilize music and sound:
In the opening when the titles are shown we hear a fast pace
daunting music as if someone is being chased but when we
are shown shots of the city it becomes more sultry and it flows
and it is non diegetic.
3. The wrong man (1956)
Colour and framing:
Again this film is in black and white and the framing of this shot is
someone looking up at the clubs entrance this make us feel as if
the camera is our eye. The framing of this shot gives us a sense of
the location and setting of the opening.
Shot types and angle movements:
The first shot we see is of a man and the camera is our eyes this
shot shows that the person is weak and vulnerable. We then have
the shot of the club and us looking up at it this gives us a sense of
the location. We then have a POV (point of view) shot of the room
and this gives the audience a sense of the mood and atmosphere.
Pace of titles and editing:
The titles come as the opening starts its edited into the shot but on
the whole entire shot. The editing of this went with the music
because it’s a party and the music was lively.
How characters/place/time is introduced:
The first characters we see are people in the background of the
party and we can see the have the 60’s hair up do and there
classy men in suits and bow ties. This shows the audience what
time the film was set in.
How do they utilize music and sound:
The sound in the beginning when we have the shot of someone
looking down at the man was a voiceover. This than changed
when we are shown the scene of the party and the music is up
beat and fits with the shot and it is non diegetic.
4. If the genre of the films are different-is the signature of the director still

Most of Hitchcock's films are based around
the genre of crime drama and you can
