Question 4
1. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
2. Slide share and Authorstream
In my researching process I used slide
share to upload my power points on to
and I found it really useful because I was
able to embed the presentation after and
put it onto my blog which was fast and
effective. I also found it useful for my
planning stages because you can look for
other presentations on similar tasks such
as the Auteur study I was able to look at
other presentations and get a better
understanding and I also saw other work
which gave me inspiration for my work.
During my evaluation stage it is helpful
because it helps me organize and place
into files where I can rearrange specific
documents. I also used author stream to
upload my work onto and then embed it
onto my blog.
3. PowToon
PowToon was very useful to use because I was able to use different tools
such as timing how long it takes till the next slide comes up I found the
presentation looked more professional and was creative with the features you
can pick. The fact that I only had a limited time of each slide being viewed
allowed me not to go on a tangent on one slide so this helped me organise
more but have better explanations and understanding.
4. Storyboard that
I used Storyboard that during my planning process to narrate and visualise what
my music video would be. This helped me I n terms of putting down my ideas
and especially when it came to filming I was able to know what to film next and
I had a strong foundation on wear to start with my idea’s. this also helped me
determine what shot types I will use and for which scene. This also helped me
with location, mise en scene and having a narrative over all.
5. YouTube
I used YouTube frequently to upload footage, research and get inspiration for my music
video this helped me during my research and planning process. I used YouTube to
analyse music video’s and find key conventions of female teenage pop culture. I also
looked at previous A2 music video’s which were A grades and gave me an idea of what I
need to produce in order to for me to get a high grade. I used YouTube also to upload
footage and my final product this then made it easier to upload and embed it on to my
blog. I also like the fact that I could watch video’s for free and not creating an account
and there was a wide range of music video’s on YouTube.
6. Microsoft word and PowerPoint
I used Microsoft office Word for planning and research when I was analysing lyrics I was able to use
spell check and make my work better, I also was able to use the tool to highlight certain sentences of
the song and annotate next to it, I also used word to do analysis of digipaks and it was easy to add a
text box and arrows to highlight key area’s, I then uploaded it to slide share after and embed it on to
my blog this also helped me organize my work and make it look presentable, I also used word to make
my magazine advert on because I found the format of it much easier and I was familiar on how to use, I
made my filming schedules on word using the make a table tool this was easier effective and fast. I
used Power Point to make presentations for more longer tasks such as analysing music video’s or
Auteur study’s. I then uploaded it onto Slide share or PowToon and then embed it onto my blog.
7. InDesign
I used InDesign during my last stage after my final product this helped me
create my digipak this was simple to use I had to fit the image proportionally
into the template that I had downloaded from google this also allowed me to
get a better understanding on how the template will be formed such as the
three pictures at the top will be folded down and that meant I had to have the
pictures upside down on the template.
8. Paint, Photoshop and Pixlr
During my production stage I used many
editing applications for my ancillary text’s
such as Pixlr to edit the photo’s this made
it look more professional and I also used
Pixlr to add the title ‘Overload’ as they
had text and fonts on the website this also
helped me keep everything organised
because there was a range of effects that I
could use. I also used paint during my
production stage when I wanted to extend
the background of a picture also turning
pictures into JPEG’s to then upload them
onto my blog. I also used Photoshop to
airbrush my actress’s face because it is a a
key convention of a female teenage pop
artist to have flawless skin and a
glamorous look so young teen’s look up to
them.
9. Google doc forms
I used google docs during my research stage, I made a questionnaire to find out a
audience demographic and got results that has helped me make my product. I like the fact
that I was able to see the results to my questionnaire in other forms like pie charts this
was more organized and professional. One of the questions were ‘what do you dislike in
music videos?’ and majority of the responses were ‘sexualisation’ so for my music video I
didn’t want to over sexualise my character and portray the male gaze I wanted her to look
edgy and fun.
10. Filming equipment
I used the video camera to make my
whole music video. I liked the quality of
this camera and because the size of the
camera was small it was easier for me to
make moving shots easier such as
panning and moving the camera side to
side. The camera I used was touch screen
so I was able to select files and delete
them this made it easier when I was
uploading my footage and faster. I also
used the steady-cam holder as my footage
was more hand held footage and this
made it easier for me to keep in frame
and get good genre convention shots of
creating a fun mood and atmosphere.
11. Social media
I used social media to get a audience
profile and demographic also to see how
do artists connect with there fans. On Face
Book I researched and found fan pages of
female teen stars such as Ariana Grande.
Ariana Grande posted a fragrance bottle
and commented ‘what do you think?’ fans
make comments on the page telling their
views and she does respond to some, this
shows a form of Digi modernism because
there is and involvement of fans
responding and having a say in what
happens. I also used social media for my
own research for my star on instagram I
posted photo’s of my artist to see what the
response is and whether or not I should
use it.
12. Final cut pro
Final cut pro was used during my production stage to edit my footage and make my final
product. The programme was very useful to me because it helped me create effects on my
music video which make it look like a real media product their were certain effects I was able
to use to create a mood and atmosphere. I was also able to use the tool bar that allowed me to
create effects such as switching between clips very fast when the music is really up beat this
links the audio and visuals together which is a genre convention of creating a fun mood and
atmosphere. I also used the tools to cut clips and edit them together this helped keep my work
organized and also easier to edit. I also used Final Cut Pro to upload footage to YouTube and
then my blog to show my progress and get audience feedback.
