Starbucks Race Issues
As a worldwide leader in coffee and coffeehouse chains, Starbucks has been faced with both scrutiny and praise for their practices in regards to
community engagement and corporate social responsibility. With locations across the globe from the United States to Saudi Arabia to Guatemala,
Starbucks has seventy–two locations spread across 26 countries. With such a large footprint, this paper will be address employees and local
communities within the United States operations and the suppliers in the Coffee and Farmer Equity (C.A.F.E) Practices program. Starbucks has
broadcasted and built a platform upon their ethical sourcing, employee relations, and community engagement with an impressive transparency not often
seen by global corporations today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One particular bump was their 2015 "#RaceTogether" Campaign. In an effort to address and participate in the ongoing dialogue about race issues in
the United States, Starbucks initiated a campaign in which barista's wrote "#RaceTogether" on their signature cups and engaged in conversation with
patrons about race and race issues. Almost immediately after the campaign was launched, it was met with major backlash, particularly on social
media platforms (Ziv, 2015). Though the intentions of the campaign seemed good and fit Starbucks' constant efforts to stay progressive and involved
in the community, the idea that board members created this scenario to be carried out all the way down their corporate hierarchy to baristas did not
translate well. Starbucks' board of directors is made up of predominantly white males which created a more controversial dynamic to have lower
ranking employees engage with complete strangers about one of the most difficult topics to discuss. It read as even more offensive to customers,
particularly customers of color, that the generally white male higher–ups of the corporation are forcing such an uncomfortable discussion for people
usually trying to spend the least amount of time in Starbucks in the first place. This campaign seemed to conflict with the initial values that Starbucks
has for its

The application of themes by the firm provides a unique outlook and understanding on the various themes that form part of human as well as general
science. Focusing on various aspects of science in relation to the environment provides a pull factor in terms of people seeking to understand the
elements vital to the world, as well as what people can do to preserve the balance in the global ecology. Another benefit by the firm is their ideology in
being a non–profit organization. This means that the firm does not price people exorbitant fees to tour the center or to use their facilities in order to
create an exhibit. Their prices reflect the firm's costs or paying any necessary costs that apply in the center's operations. The last strength is its great

Descriptive Essay On Nature
Although the weather wasn't as spectacular that day, I noticed a faint streak of sunlight pierce through the saturated clouds as it illuminates sky the and
dense mist that summer day. Despite the conditions, it's rather normal here most days with little visibility with the wind howling around each and
corner. Soon the weather changed as the drive heighted deep into the mountainside with each and every turn. Upon reaching the top, the air was rather
fresh and cool, just as you would expect it to be on a mountain overlooking miraculous views miles and miles ahead beyond the U.S borders from the
Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. Just the sensation of being connected with nature is truly overpowering and adventurous. My trip to
Washington is by far one of my most memorable with its significant views of nature and the sightseeing in Seattle. ...........
The journey began late July during 2016, when I traveled out to Washington State to visit my Aunt for almost a week. The flight was rather calm at
first and offered an excellent time to make some progress on my academic homework. I presumed that all would continue going well, nevertheless an
obnoxious child behind me decided to whine and complain for approximately 45 minutes straight. Anyway, as time progressed I looked out my window
noticed many geological features below, such as extravagant mountain ranges piercing through the clouds with snow still on their peaks. Gradually the
plane began to descend on Seattle–Tacoma

Constantly trying to please the customer, StarbucksВ® introduced a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Although pumpkin has been the craze for a while,
StarbucksВ® introduced the pumpkin drink in 2003 when there were virtually no other pumpkin products on the market. (Starbucks Newsroom, 2014).
Realizing the great risk of pumpkin, the senior leaders proceeded with the go–ahead for the new Pumpkin Spice Latte drink. Around 100 stores were
provided the opportunity to introduce the new seasonal drink, and after a better than expected success with the product, StarbucksВ® knew the Pumpkin
Spice Latte was a winner. After eleven years, StarbucksВ® revealed the recipe for the Pumpkin Spice Latte and determined that the drink should be

StarbucksВ® has appealed by offering a mobile app which allows for ordering, tipping, and choosing the desired location of pickup (Starbucks
Newsroom, 2014). Launched in Portland, Oregon, in 2014, plans were put in place to expand in 2015. The mobile ordering experience has been
integrated into the already existing Starbucks mobile app, and My Starbucks RewardsВ® program. Continuing to utilize the expanding features of
mobile possibilities, StarbucksВ® is growing with customer demand. Realizing the growing possibility of income from the use of the app,
Starbucks has initiated a plan to expand the mobile app even more (Meola, 2016). In addition, sales through the mobile app has continued to grow,
and, therefore, inspired the expansion of offerings through mobile communication. Studies have concluded that the use of the mobile app has become
a core strategy for the business, and future growth for the Starbucks app will include recommendations to the customer for additional products. This
writer considers the use of the mobile app to still be in the growing stages of the product life cycle. The maturity stage would indicate that the
product has reached a peak (Solomon, Marshall, Stuart, 2012). However, not everyone has joined in the forces of utilizing the possibilities of the
mobile app. Even though it would seem that most people have a cell phone, a select few only use the device for calling and texting. Therefore, the

Chief Seattle Essay
Chief Seattle
When stories are told about the American Indian it is usually the Indians that are looked upon as the heathens. They are portrayed as savages who
spent most of their time raiding wagon trains and scalping the white settlers just for fun. The media has lead us to believe that the American government
was forced to take the land from these savage Indians. We should put the blame where it belongs, on theU.S. Government who lied, cheated, and stole
from the Indians forcing many Indian leaders to surrender not only their tribes but their nation in order to save the lives of their people.
Among the Indians of the Pacific Northwest, perhaps the best known may be Chief Seattle. Chief Seattle (more correctly known as Seathl or ... Show

Seattle moved to Port Madison Reservation and lived in Old Man House, just across from Bainbridge Island; "This was a community house
measuring some 60' x 900' feet easily the largest Indian made wooden structure in the region". (4) When settlers first came to America they were
meet by Indians. Once the settlers were able to make it on there own, they no longer needed Indian help. Then they began to try to change the ways
and beliefs of the Indian. One of the aspects that the settlers spent much time on trying to change of the Indians was their religion. Influenced by
missionaries, Seattle decided to convert to Christianity and was later baptized in 1838 by Father Modest Demers, at which time Seattle adopted the
Christian name "Noah". One of the major differences I noticed while researching information about Chief Seattle is that in Catholicism there is one
book, I'm sure that we all have heard of it, the Bible. In Catholicism it is made up of the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is
made up of scriptures before the coming of Jesus. The New Testament is made up of scriptures written up after the coming of Jesus. These scriptures
are written up pretty straight forward and they are read year in and year out. There is no room for individual interpretation by the reader, it is set in
structure. In the Indian religion everything is told through myths and legends. Because of this everything is passed down from chief to chief

Water Contaminants Are Bad For The Marine Life And The...
Salmon populations have been declining for years, especially very drastically in the last few years. This issue has been going on for years with very
little awareness of the public living in the Northwest, especially around the Puget Sound area in Washington State. From Seattle Times I quote, "There
used to be coho salmon runs all through Puget Sound and creeks. There haven't been for decades," said Julann Spromberg, a toxicologist working for
NOAA Fisheries. "They're coming back, and they're dying. We need to figure out what's going on."
One of the main causes of the declining number of salmon is water runoff. Water runoff is an over flow of water from rain, snow melt, and other
sources of water that goes into the stream and eventually into the ocean. Unfortunately, the water runoff will pick up anything that it went through such
as oil, pesticides, fertilizers, and other water contaminants. These water contaminants are bad for the marine life and the environment, especially in
our case the salmon in the Puget Sound area. With the increasing population in the Puget Sound area, there will be more and more land being
developed to provide more space for more people. More population in the Puget Sound area will also increase the water pollution in the Puget Sound
waters, which is not a good case for the salmons. In my opinion, salmons of the Puget Sound are almost in the verge of extinction.
First of all, let us talk about Puget Sound as a body of water. Puget Sound is a

It is up to the individual to make goals; not the organization. Goals will reflect the interests of the individual. Goals of an individual can be short term
or long term. An example of a short–term goal would be to score higher in the next 90–day evaluation, make a 10% increase in productivity or sales in
the next few months. An example of a long–term goal would be to complete an Associate's degree in order to move up within the organization.
Starbucks Corporation has been known for helping employees move up within the organization by offering upper level positions upon completing their

Organization sometimes runs into issues with setting their organizational goals; therefore, it is important to appoint someone in the management team
to help them achieve their goals.
Organizational goals can be achieved in the following steps:
Clearly define the goals. The goals that are clearly defined will state, why they are important? What happens if the organization does not achieve
them? Therefore, it behooves management to have quarterly meetings with associates to let them know how the organization is achieving or not
achieving their goals.
Make sure everyone is aware of the goals. Everyone from hourly employees to the

There is only two things we can do to stand up for Christ. They are to live according to the gospel and know him on a person level. Matthew 5:16 and
Ephesians 6:10–17 are verses surrounding this topic. This means that we should live and act in a way that supports the gospel. We should also arm
ourselves with knowledge, both of the gospel. One topic related to the main topic is the opinion of homosexual relationships. While the Bible does
address homosexuality in a broad way, it does not truly mention same–sex marriage. It does, however, condemn homosexuality as an immoral and
unnatural sin. Leviticus 18:22, Romans 1:26–27, 1 Corinthians 6:9, Genesis 2:24, 1 Corinthians 7:2–16, Ephesians 5:23–33, Acts 14:22, 2 Cor. 12:9 –

What Is Costco's Ethical Culture
Costco is the second largest retailer in the world. My family and I have been shopping at Costco for over 10 years now and there's something different
about the wholesale warehouse experience. It's the vast expanse of products sitting on wooden pallets stacked on two story shelves; the employees
constantly reorganizing, inventorying, preparing and welcoming you; and the very fact you're an exclusive member because you pay $55 annually to
be able to shop there. Costco strives to create that ethically transformed organization and embodies that in their mission statement – "To continually
provide our members with quality goods and services at the lowest possible prices (Fanfare, 2016)." This is Costco's selling point but they incorporate
core values that "serve as enduring, guiding principles that reflect what organizational members find intrinsically valuable (Johnson, 2016)." Costco has

Rhetorical Analysis
In the Article titled "Our Gun–Control Laws are not Stopping Gun Violence," the author, Jenny A. Durkan argues that tightening already existing gun
laws is the most efficient way to stop gun violence (7). Durkan talks about how she received a gun at the age of 10 from her father. She was taught how
to safely use clean and store the gun (2–3). Owning a gun at a very young age shaped Durkan's stance on gun violence. Durkan argues that ultimately
guns are falling into the wrong hands and that we must teach people about guns and the importance of gun safety (6). Durkan believes that tightening
gun laws consists of gun restrictions, universal background checks, respecting laws enforcers and education (1–19). Durkan is certain that if her beliefs
are implemented, guns will stop falling into the wrong hands. After evaluating Durkan's article one could argue that she has a very solid situated ethos.
Jenny A. Durkan is not only the U.S. attorney for the Western District ofWashington but she is also a prosecutor. She received her undergraduate

Environmental Plans And Wildlife Management Programs
As discussed in previous projects, an airport is a significant element in any community. This element has a direct and an indirect impact on the
community. With the establishment of an airport, many businesses start to facilitate the construction works. After operating the airport, many
businesses start to facilitate the airport's operations. In addition, the airport itself hires staff to run the business. Moreover, airports contribute to the
surrounding communities. Thus, the existing of an airport might be harmful to the environment and the wildlife around the airport. Therefore,
many airport authorities utilize environmental plans and wildlife management programs. On the other hand, wildlife is a hazard for airports in
some cases. For the FAA, wildlife strikes is one of the increasing issues in airports safety (Greenberger, 2013). From 1988 till 2012, more than 219
people were killed and more than 200 aircrafts were destroyed (Greenberger, 2013). Therefore, wildlife management plans are beneficial for wildlife
and the airport operations. In other words, wildlife plans mitigate the risks for wildlife around airfields and mitigate the wildlife of concern risk for
airplanes. In 2012 during the approach of Air Force Two at Santa Barbra Airport in California, a bird stroked the airplane. Another bird strike happened
during the landing of an Airbus 300 at Tulsa International airport, which caused damaged to the wing and engine that cost about $ 6 millions

Alex Rodriguez Broke Into Spring Camp With The Seattle...
In 1994, an 18–year–old kid from Miami named Alex Rodriguez broke into spring camp with the Seattle Mariners in an attempt to make the team.
After almost immediately stepping into a Major League baseball field he became a household name. Within two years, he was an All–Star. Within five,
a regular 40–homer player. By the turn of the century, many were already putting him into the Hall of Fame discussion.
On August 12, 2016, Rodriguez played what will be his final game as a New York Yankee after an incredible 12 years in New York. Considering the
41–year–old's lack of playing time and declining production after a resurgent effort in 2015, this may very well be the end of the A–Rod era entirely.
And for A–Rod, he was prepared to leave the game he fell in love with as a child.
"I do want to be remembered as someone who was madly in love with the game of baseball, someone who loves it at every level," Rodriguez said.
"Someone who loves to learn it, play it, teach it, coach it. And also, I 'm going to be hopefully remembered as someone who tripped and fell a lot, but
someone that kept getting up."
Rodriguez has led a very controversial 22–year baseball career. His lowest moment being when he was infamously suspended for the entire 2014
season following the Biogenesis investigation. The longest suspension ever served in Major League Baseball history.
But his story did not end there.
In his 2015 campaign, in an attempt to redeem himself and earn back the love from the fans

The World Trade Organization Demonstrations Essay
The World Trade Organization Demonstrations
Introduction
The emerging trend of liberalizing international trade regulations, also known as globalization, has lead to vast changes in distribution of wealth and
power throughout the world. As a result, many groups and population segments feel pressured or disadvantaged by the evolving structure of world
markets and their effects on labor standards, job availability, environmental standards, etc.
Many of these groups, both in the United States and abroad, are leftist–centered groups seeking to peacefully influence or altogether stop the rush to
trade liberalization and privatization that is occurring worldwide. Naomi Klein writes:

This sort of civil disobedience, of course, sparked violent responses from the police and left downtown Seattle a mess.
This paper will use the Smelser model of collective behavior to illustrate that all of the determinants necessary for such a grand and successful display
of collective action were present at that time. Specifically, it will demonstrate that a societal structure sustained action, a sufficient strain instigated such
action, leadership was there to mobilize resources and that social control forces inevitably could not prevent the demonstrators from disturbing the WTO
convention.
Theory
This paper will demonstrate the Smelser Theory of Structural–Strain. This uses a "value–added" concept in that all of the determinants, when met,
contribute to the likelihood of collective action. Generally, however, all factors "must be present for collective action to occur" (Barkan and Snowden
21).
Structural Conduciveness – This is a measure of how accommodating a society or environment is to communication between those taking action and
mobilizing of resources in order to achieve such action. It also takes into account whether aggrieved persons have "appropriate" channels of expression.
Structural Strain – Without some sort of conflict or competition between groups in a society, there can be nothing to move a population to protest.
Structural strain is the amount of tension

Chronic Injuries Robbed Ken Griffey Jr. of Homerun King...
He hit 600 home runs (5th most all time), won 10 gold gloves, and made 13 All Star Games. In almost 150 years baseball history, only the great
Willie Mays can match Ken Griffey Jr. in these statistical categories. However, despite these extraordinary stats, Ken Griffey Jr. may be the ultimate
"What Could Have Been" player. An incredibly promising career was derailed in the latter half by chronic injuries that robbed him of hundreds of
games. If not for these injuries, Griffey was well on his way to becoming the Home Run King (Stark, 2010) and possibly the greatest player ever.
Despite these setbacks, Griffey is still revered as one of the greatest and most popular MLB players ever. The savior of baseball in Seattle and the lone

rookie card remains the most popular baseball card ever. During the prime of his career in the late 1990s, he was easily the most popular baseball

Nowhere in the country is he more popular than in Seattle, where he is considered the savior of baseball in the city. In the 1980s, the Mariners
were a historically moribund franchise playing in the crumbling Kingdome. Prior to his arrival, the Mariners had been seriously considering a move

With neither side was willing to bend, the Seahawks and Galloway created an awful situation. The Seahawks were without their best receiver. Each

He is arguably one of the top five receivers in the NFL if not the better and should hold out if he believes he is not being paid a fair market value. But
holding out may have backfired on Galloway.
In Galloway's existing contract there is a clause that states that if Galloway were to hold out the entire season the Seahawks would have rights to

The Importance Of A Great Mind, Self Motivation, And Push
Having a great mind, self–motivation, and push is all you need to create something great even when you have nothing. In 1887, a 16–year–old boy
with the name of John W. Nordstrom who did not speak English ended up creating one of the most popular department stores to this day. Nordstrom,
having 323 stores located in 39 different states including outside of the country started as a small shoe shop in downtown Seattle. This company has
offered impeccable customer service, quality of items, and value.
Background of Entrepreneur
In 1887, John W.Nordstrom left his home in Sweden for New York City, arriving with 5$ and no background of the English language but six years in
grammar school in Sweden. Travelling by boat to Hull, England then to Liverpool he began a ten–day voyage to New York. He did not have much

was loading iron onto railroad cars. He began travelling across America doing backbreaking work though Iowa, Colorado, and California, to land in

represented the abundance of natural resources and great logging industry of the Pacific Northwest. The middle part of the flyer showed a Drumheller

trees were displayed. Moreover, six huskies were used to pull sleds, and the rider with a beard stood with a whip on the snowy road. A totem pole
that was carved with the spiritual symbol "hawks" was also presented on the flyer. Two circles were drawn on the top left and right sides of the flyer.

As Standage argues, coffee has long symbolized intellect, creativity, and "just a streak of revolution." During the Enlightenment, coffee–and the
coffeehouses where it was served–represented a form of free, open discourse in which new ideas could be discussed without prejudice. Even today, it

America. Coffee continues to symbolize the thrill of creativity and entrepreneurship.

Light Rail System Pros And Cons
The habitus of transportation plays a key role not just in my life, but in other people's lives as well. If you live off of campus, most likely, you will
commute. This is because driving to the university can be very expensive due to the cost of parking and gas. If you don't live in a walking distance
from the university, taking the bus or light rail is a must. Commuting has its benefits and drawbacks. For instance, commuting saves you a lot of
money, you don't have to pay for a dorm or for living in a fraternity or sorority. On the other hand, commuting can take a lot of time. That means you
have to wake up earlier, wait for the transportation vehicle to come and wait till you arrive at your destination. Furthermore, commuting causes an

And the light rail is a mean of transportation that can increase accessibility to the university by a lot. In the article To Build or Not To build: A Voter's
Guide to ST3 by Ben Celsi, explains the pros and cons of expanding the light rail system. The expansion of the light rail system will cost around "54
billion" dollars. This is a significant amount since this is all coming from taxes. Using up this much money also means that you won't have a lot of cash
left to spend it on other things. Nevertheless, the Seattle area has a huge traffic problem and building the light rail might help ease up the traffic.
However, taking the people that don't drive or cannot afford a vehicle into consideration, this seems like a pretty good idea. Easing up the Seattle
traffic and providing transportation services to people who don't drive would increase accessibility to the university tremendously. With the
addition of the light rail system, carbon emissions are supposed to decrease by "130,000 metric tons" yearly. Not only does it reduce traffic and
increase accessibility, it also reduces the emissions of greenhouse gases. Moreover, expanding the rail system is a "risk" since it's coming out of the
people's pockets. With this expansion, taxpayers will pay double the "taxes already paid to Sound Transit for the previous expansions of light rail"
(Celsi). This might be of a problem to certain people because they don't want to pay more or they want their hard earned taxes to be spent on
something else. Overall, the expansion of the light rail system will have an immense effect on the accessibility of the university for students and it will
lower Seattle's terrible traffic. It might cost an incredible amount of money, but it will be worth it for the students that live quite a bit of distance from

For most of its history, Seattle was kind of a separated city dedicated to the apical dominance of the white people, just as any areas in the United states.
Colored people are excluded from most jobs, communities, many stores, restaurants, hotels or other commercial establishments. Similar with other
western countries, the unfairness is not only towards African Americans as they just commonly concerned, but also towards many other minorities as

Seattleites would soon find that public opinion was no match for the power of lobbying: "So, an unholy alliance – downtown business groups, large

craven Seattle City Council members, craven state legislators like Ed Murray (who sponsored the tunnel bill and is now mayor), and head cheerleader

Six years after several groups called for the shutdown of the Viaduct over the fact that it may collapse imminently, its replacement was finally approved;

The construction of the tunnel started with both banging and whimpering. At the christening ceremony of Bertha, the name of the machine designed to

and what she 'll encounter along the way," (Esser 1). At that time in July of 2013, the tunnel project was expected to be completed within fourteen
months. Immediately after Bertha began chugging its way through the Seattle dirt, it ran into twin issues. First, a mechanical issue, namely a clog in
the conveyor screw; that was quickly fixed. However, a struggle for jobs between the longshoremen unions and the building trade unions led to the
longshoremen picketing the tunnel project and halting work until late September. Washington Governor Jay Inslee, by this point the third governor

The city of Seattle got its start as a rough logging town, and although it's grown far beyond its humble origins, it retains some of the independent
frontier spirit of its founders. Its location on Puget Sound made it a perfect site for shipping. When it also became the terminus for the Great Northern
Railway during the 1890s, Seattle's population exploded. Its selection for the 1962 World's Fair was such a cause for celebration that one of the fair's
most prominent landmarks remains nearly fifty years later: the Space Needle.
The logging, shipping and railroad industries may have built Seattle, but the city took its name from a chieftain of two regional Native American
cultures, the Suquamish and Duwamish people. In one of the earliest examples of paid naming rights, the town's founders paid Chief Seattle a tidy sum
to give his name to their burgeoning logging town. Chief Seattle would probably take pride in the multicultural port city that bears his name. Its
forward–thinking views on conservation has given the modern city a reputation for being one of the greenest in the nation. Seattle also boasts one of

How Nordstrom's Company Establish A Competitive Advantage...
History
Nordstrom was co founded in 1901 by John W. Nordstrom and his partner Carl Wallin. At age 16, John W of Sweden left his home and moved to
Alaska where he struck gold. During his time in Alaska, John met Carl Wallin, who owned a shoe repair shop in downtown Seattle. A partnership was
formed between the two and they opened the shoe store Wallin &Nordstrom. The company's philosophy was based on exceptional customer service,
selection, quality and value. This focus helped the company establish a competitive advantage in the shoe market. The company was very successful
and they opened a second store in 1923. In 1928, John retired and sold his share of the company to his sons Everett and Elmer. Carl Wallin retired a
year later and sold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The company's profits were growing and there was increases in market share. Nordstrom marketing plan was effective but there was still room to grow.
The company needed to change its marketing strategy and further its market penetration to remain successful. Beginning to take action in 1973, the
company opened the first Nordstrom Rack. This store was a clearance store for full–line store merchandise. The higher prices in the regular store
targeted the upper segment of society, while the Rack allowed Nordstrom to orient itself to a completely new customer base. By 1975, the company
had expanded into Alaska then California markets three years later. The company opened its first store on the East Coast in 1988 in Virginia.
The new millennium offered the company several new partnerships. The company owned Faconnable, an upscale European apparel collection for men
and women from 2000 to 2007. In 2011, the company acquired Hautelook, which helped the company enter the online private sale market. Nordstrom
was the first major U.S. retailer to sell the British fashion brands Topshop and Topman, Which they acquired in 2012. Today, the company operates
304 stores in 38 states, 116 being full–line stores in the United States and two in Canada, 178 Nordstrom Racks, two Jeffrey boutiques and one
clearance store. Customer can reach Nordstrom via online through Nordstrom.com, nordstromrack.com, and

The Mission And Vision Statement
Most large organizations have mission and vision statements identifying the company's core focus and the values that it holds. These statements
establish the culture for the organization, impacting products, service, marketing and employees. The mission and vision statement is a window into
the leadership philosophy of the organization. This paper will examine the mission and vision statement of two very large and successful companies,
which hold two vastly different leadership philosophies. This paper will compare Starbucks, the world's largest coffeehouse with servant leadership
embedded in its culture, to Amazon, a hard–driving company with a succeed at all costs approach.
Mission Statements
Starbucks public mission statement is "to inspire and nurture the human spirit¬ one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time" (Mission
Statement). This mission statement reveals characteristics of a culture of servant leadership. To inspire and nurture the human spirit are core attributes
of servant leadership. Doing this one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time highlights the relational nature of the company.
Amazon's mission statement is "... to be earth 's most customer centric company; to build a place where people can come to find and discover anything
they might want to buy online" (Amazon.jobs). Amazon's mission is utility, while Starbucks is relational. Amazon's mission is to provide customers
anything they need online, however the mission statement is void of

Starbucks Race Campaign Backlash

  • 1. Starbucks Race Issues As a worldwide leader in coffee and coffeehouse chains, Starbucks has been faced with both scrutiny and praise for their practices in regards to community engagement and corporate social responsibility. With locations across the globe from the United States to Saudi Arabia to Guatemala, Starbucks has seventy–two locations spread across 26 countries. With such a large footprint, this paper will be address employees and local communities within the United States operations and the suppliers in the Coffee and Farmer Equity (C.A.F.E) Practices program. Starbucks has broadcasted and built a platform upon their ethical sourcing, employee relations, and community engagement with an impressive transparency not often seen by global corporations today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One particular bump was their 2015 "#RaceTogether" Campaign. In an effort to address and participate in the ongoing dialogue about race issues in the United States, Starbucks initiated a campaign in which barista's wrote "#RaceTogether" on their signature cups and engaged in conversation with patrons about race and race issues. Almost immediately after the campaign was launched, it was met with major backlash, particularly on social media platforms (Ziv, 2015). Though the intentions of the campaign seemed good and fit Starbucks' constant efforts to stay progressive and involved in the community, the idea that board members created this scenario to be carried out all the way down their corporate hierarchy to baristas did not translate well. Starbucks' board of directors is made up of predominantly white males which created a more controversial dynamic to have lower ranking employees engage with complete strangers about one of the most difficult topics to discuss. It read as even more offensive to customers, particularly customers of color, that the generally white male higher–ups of the corporation are forcing such an uncomfortable discussion for people usually trying to spend the least amount of time in Starbucks in the first place. This campaign seemed to conflict with the initial values that Starbucks has for its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another benefit by the firm is their ideology in being a non–profit organization. This means that the firm does not price people exorbitant fees to tour the center or to use their facilities in order to create an exhibit. • 3. Descriptive Essay On Nature Although the weather wasn't as spectacular that day, I noticed a faint streak of sunlight pierce through the saturated clouds as it illuminates sky the and dense mist that summer day. Despite the conditions, it's rather normal here most days with little visibility with the wind howling around each and corner. Soon the weather changed as the drive heighted deep into the mountainside with each and every turn. Upon reaching the top, the air was rather fresh and cool, just as you would expect it to be on a mountain overlooking miraculous views miles and miles ahead beyond the U.S borders from the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. Just the sensation of being connected with nature is truly overpowering and adventurous. My trip to Washington is by far one of my most memorable with its significant views of nature and the sightseeing in Seattle. ........... The journey began late July during 2016, when I traveled out to Washington State to visit my Aunt for almost a week. The flight was rather calm at first and offered an excellent time to make some progress on my academic homework. I presumed that all would continue going well, nevertheless an obnoxious child behind me decided to whine and complain for approximately 45 minutes straight. Anyway, as time progressed I looked out my window noticed many geological features below, such as extravagant mountain ranges piercing through the clouds with snow still on their peaks. Gradually the plane began to descend on Seattle–Tacoma ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although pumpkin has been the craze for a while, StarbucksВ® introduced the pumpkin drink in 2003 when there were virtually no other pumpkin products on the market. (Starbucks Newsroom, 2014). Realizing the great risk of pumpkin, the senior leaders proceeded with the go–ahead for the new Pumpkin Spice Latte drink. Around 100 stores were provided the opportunity to introduce the new seasonal drink, and after a better than expected success with the product, StarbucksВ® knew the Pumpkin Spice Latte was a winner. StarbucksВ® has appealed by offering a mobile app which allows for ordering, tipping, and choosing the desired location of pickup (Starbucks Newsroom, 2014). Launched in Portland, Oregon, in 2014, plans were put in place to expand in 2015. The mobile ordering experience has been integrated into the already existing Starbucks mobile app, and My Starbucks RewardsВ® program. Continuing to utilize the expanding features of mobile possibilities, StarbucksВ® is growing with customer demand. Realizing the growing possibility of income from the use of the app, Starbucks has initiated a plan to expand the mobile app even more (Meola, 2016). In addition, sales through the mobile app has continued to grow, and, therefore, inspired the expansion of offerings through mobile communication. Studies have concluded that the use of the mobile app has become a core strategy for the business, and future growth for the Starbucks app will include recommendations to the customer for additional products. This writer considers the use of the mobile app to still be in the growing stages of the product life cycle. The maturity stage would indicate that the product has reached a peak (Solomon, Marshall, Stuart, 2012). However, not everyone has joined in the forces of utilizing the possibilities of the mobile app. Even though it would seem that most people have a cell phone, a select few only use the device for calling and texting. Therefore, the market is still growing and enticing new app ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Chief Seattle Essay Chief Seattle When stories are told about the American Indian it is usually the Indians that are looked upon as the heathens. They are portrayed as savages who spent most of their time raiding wagon trains and scalping the white settlers just for fun. The media has lead us to believe that the American government was forced to take the land from these savage Indians. We should put the blame where it belongs, on theU.S. Government who lied, cheated, and stole from the Indians forcing many Indian leaders to surrender not only their tribes but their nation in order to save the lives of their people. Among the Indians of the Pacific Northwest, perhaps the best known may be Chief Seattle. Chief Seattle (more correctly known as Seathl or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seattle moved to Port Madison Reservation and lived in Old Man House, just across from Bainbridge Island; "This was a community house measuring some 60' x 900' feet easily the largest Indian made wooden structure in the region". (4) When settlers first came to America they were meet by Indians. Once the settlers were able to make it on there own, they no longer needed Indian help. Then they began to try to change the ways and beliefs of the Indian. One of the aspects that the settlers spent much time on trying to change of the Indians was their religion. Influenced by missionaries, Seattle decided to convert to Christianity and was later baptized in 1838 by Father Modest Demers, at which time Seattle adopted the Christian name "Noah". One of the major differences I noticed while researching information about Chief Seattle is that in Catholicism there is one book, I'm sure that we all have heard of it, the Bible. In Catholicism it is made up of the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is made up of scriptures before the coming of Jesus. The New Testament is made up of scriptures written up after the coming of Jesus. These scriptures are written up pretty straight forward and they are read year in and year out. There is no room for individual interpretation by the reader, it is set in structure. In the Indian religion everything is told through myths and legends. Because of this everything is passed down from chief to chief ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Water Contaminants Are Bad For The Marine Life And The... Salmon populations have been declining for years, especially very drastically in the last few years. This issue has been going on for years with very little awareness of the public living in the Northwest, especially around the Puget Sound area in Washington State. From Seattle Times I quote, "There used to be coho salmon runs all through Puget Sound and creeks. There haven't been for decades," said Julann Spromberg, a toxicologist working for NOAA Fisheries. "They're coming back, and they're dying. We need to figure out what's going on." One of the main causes of the declining number of salmon is water runoff. Water runoff is an over flow of water from rain, snow melt, and other sources of water that goes into the stream and eventually into the ocean. Unfortunately, the water runoff will pick up anything that it went through such as oil, pesticides, fertilizers, and other water contaminants. These water contaminants are bad for the marine life and the environment, especially in our case the salmon in the Puget Sound area. Rhetorical Analysis On Gun Violence Brielle Cooper 10/23/2017 Composition Essay 2 Rhetorical Analysis In the Article titled "Our Gun–Control Laws are not Stopping Gun Violence," the author, Jenny A. Durkan argues that tightening already existing gun laws is the most efficient way to stop gun violence (7). Durkan talks about how she received a gun at the age of 10 from her father. She was taught how to safely use clean and store the gun (2–3). Owning a gun at a very young age shaped Durkan's stance on gun violence. Durkan argues that ultimately guns are falling into the wrong hands and that we must teach people about guns and the importance of gun safety (6). Durkan believes that tightening gun laws consists of gun restrictions, universal background checks, respecting laws enforcers and education (1–19). Durkan is certain that if her beliefs are implemented, guns will stop falling into the wrong hands. After evaluating Durkan's article one could argue that she has a very solid situated ethos. • 18. Environmental Plans And Wildlife Management Programs As discussed in previous projects, an airport is a significant element in any community. This element has a direct and an indirect impact on the community. With the establishment of an airport, many businesses start to facilitate the construction works. After operating the airport, many businesses start to facilitate the airport's operations. In addition, the airport itself hires staff to run the business. Moreover, airports contribute to the surrounding communities. Thus, the existing of an airport might be harmful to the environment and the wildlife around the airport. Therefore, many airport authorities utilize environmental plans and wildlife management programs. On the other hand, wildlife is a hazard for airports in some cases. For the FAA, wildlife strikes is one of the increasing issues in airports safety (Greenberger, 2013). From 1988 till 2012, more than 219 people were killed and more than 200 aircrafts were destroyed (Greenberger, 2013). Therefore, wildlife management plans are beneficial for wildlife and the airport operations. In other words, wildlife plans mitigate the risks for wildlife around airfields and mitigate the wildlife of concern risk for airplanes. In 2012 during the approach of Air Force Two at Santa Barbra Airport in California, a bird stroked the airplane. Another bird strike happened during the landing of an Airbus 300 at Tulsa International airport, which caused damaged to the wing and engine that cost about $ 6 millions (Greenberger, ... His 1989 rookie card remains the most popular baseball card ever. During the prime of his career in the late 1990s, he was easily the most popular baseball player and possibly even most popular athlete in the world. Nowhere in the country is he more popular than in Seattle, where he is considered the savior of baseball in the city. In the 1980s, the Mariners were a historically moribund franchise playing in the crumbling Kingdome. Prior to his arrival, the Mariners had been seriously considering a move to Washington DC, but that all changed once Griffey came (Fort, 2000, p. 313). His exciting style of play immediately attracted fans and attention to the franchise (Caple, 2010). In 1995, Griffey led a miracle rally to the Mariners first playoff appearance in decades (Reader, 2010), and capped the season by scoring the game winning run to defeat the New York Yankees in the first round (Schaefer, 2003, p.6). Professional Athletes Deserve Every Cent Essay Many major cities generate hundreds of millions of dollars per year in revenue from ticket and merchandise sales from the marketability and popularity of their professional athletes. These athletes play for teams hundreds, even thousands of miles away from their homes and families in hopes of winning a championship. They spend weeks on end away from parents, wives, and children. These athletes endure injuries far beyond what the average person would. The most healthy, fit, and talented athletes are considered lucky if the can play past 35 years of age. Each side of this situation stated they wanted to resolve this matter but nothing was done. Galloway should be commended for sticking to his game plan. He is arguably one of the top five receivers in the NFL if not the better and should hold out if he believes he is not being paid a fair market value. But holding out may have backfired on Galloway. In Galloway's existing contract there is a clause that states that if Galloway were to hold out the entire season the Seahawks would have rights to him for 2 more seasons. This means the only way Galloway can leave after the 1999 season is if the Seahawks were to trade him. Knowing this, and also seeing how well the team is doing without him through October of 1999. In 1887, a 16–year–old boy with the name of John W. Nordstrom who did not speak English ended up creating one of the most popular department stores to this day. Nordstrom, having 323 stores located in 39 different states including outside of the country started as a small shoe shop in downtown Seattle. This company has offered impeccable customer service, quality of items, and value. Background of Entrepreneur In 1887, John W.Nordstrom left his home in Sweden for New York City, arriving with 5$ and no background of the English language but six years in grammar school in Sweden. Travelling by boat to Hull, England then to Liverpool he began a ten–day voyage to New York. He did not have much education background at that point; he came to America for opportunities and worked very hard laboring in mines and logging camps. His first job was loading iron onto railroad cars. He began travelling across America doing backbreaking work though Iowa, Colorado, and California, to land in the west coast of Seattle, Washington in 1896. He then settled in Arlington, Washington, about 50 miles north of Seattle"(Nordstrom History). The Puget Sound's residents who gathered at the small waterfront area were attracted by the tempting title. The message had sent shock waves across entire North America. Within days, I saw thousands of fortune seekers risking their lives for the unknown adventures of finding gold. Colorful flyers and significant graffiti were posted around Seattle. People excitingly held the flyers and keenly waited for the countdown of the Alaska–Yukon–Pacific Exposition. Different flyer designs existed, and the one that was frequently presented as the formal invitation was a flyer that represented the advantages of Alaska and Seattle (Stein and Becker 38). Similar to most people, I had sent the formal invitation to all of my friends and family members on rectangular–shaped flyers. The background of the flyers promoted the natural resources and industrial advances of the Pacific Northwest. On the right side of the flyer, which was the forest, the flyer included a painting of cut logs and a man holding an ax; this image represented the abundance of natural resources and great logging industry of the Pacific Northwest. The middle part of the flyer showed a Drumheller fountain and buildings; snow–capped Mountain Rainier was the focal point of the grounds. On the left side of the flyer, the snow–covered roads and trees were displayed. Moreover, six huskies were used to pull sleds, and the rider with a beard stood with a whip on the snowy road. • 32. Light Rail System Pros And Cons The habitus of transportation plays a key role not just in my life, but in other people's lives as well. If you live off of campus, most likely, you will commute. This is because driving to the university can be very expensive due to the cost of parking and gas. If you don't live in a walking distance from the university, taking the bus or light rail is a must. Commuting has its benefits and drawbacks. For instance, commuting saves you a lot of money, you don't have to pay for a dorm or for living in a fraternity or sorority. On the other hand, commuting can take a lot of time. That means you have to wake up earlier, wait for the transportation vehicle to come and wait till you arrive at your destination. Furthermore, commuting causes an increase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And the light rail is a mean of transportation that can increase accessibility to the university by a lot. In the article To Build or Not To build: A Voter's Guide to ST3 by Ben Celsi, explains the pros and cons of expanding the light rail system. The expansion of the light rail system will cost around "54 billion" dollars. This is a significant amount since this is all coming from taxes. Using up this much money also means that you won't have a lot of cash left to spend it on other things. Nevertheless, the Seattle area has a huge traffic problem and building the light rail might help ease up the traffic. However, taking the people that don't drive or cannot afford a vehicle into consideration, this seems like a pretty good idea. Easing up the Seattle traffic and providing transportation services to people who don't drive would increase accessibility to the university tremendously. With the addition of the light rail system, carbon emissions are supposed to decrease by "130,000 metric tons" yearly. Not only does it reduce traffic and increase accessibility, it also reduces the emissions of greenhouse gases. Moreover, expanding the rail system is a "risk" since it's coming out of the people's pockets. With this expansion, taxpayers will pay double the "taxes already paid to Sound Transit for the previous expansions of light rail" (Celsi). This might be of a problem to certain people because they don't want to pay more or they want their hard earned taxes to be spent on something else. Overall, the expansion of the light rail system will have an immense effect on the accessibility of the university for students and it will lower Seattle's terrible traffic. It might cost an incredible amount of money, but it will be worth it for the students that live quite a bit of distance from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the christening ceremony of Bertha, the name of the machine designed to bore through the Seattle underground, WSDOT communications head KaDeena Yerkan pleasantly told reporters "We know exactly the path of Bertha and what she 'll encounter along the way," (Esser 1). At that time in July of 2013, the tunnel project was expected to be completed within fourteen months. Immediately after Bertha began chugging its way through the Seattle dirt, it ran into twin issues. First, a mechanical issue, namely a clog in the conveyor screw; that was quickly fixed. However, a struggle for jobs between the longshoremen unions and the building trade unions led to the longshoremen picketing the tunnel project and halting work until late September. Washington Governor Jay Inslee, by this point the third governor since the 2001 earthquake that cracked the Viaduct, remarked, "I have been increasingly frustrated by this situation, and I know that Washingtonians feel this same frustration to the nth degree," he said Tuesday.
