Evaluation of my recreation
1. Step by step evaluation of
how I recreated my
magazine.
By Michael wells
2.
3. Step 1
First I created the title for my magazine which I made using
illustrator as it is the best program for creating logos.
I then imported my logo title into InDesign and then I set up
my background which I made grey because it was the same
colour as the original.
I then went out and took pictures of people who looked
roughly the same as the models in the original.
I then placed the pictures into Photoshop and edited the
images so that they were holding a gun, or that they would
look the same as they did in the original.
4. I then place the images into InDesign using the letter box and place
tool, I did have a problem with a white box that kept on appearing but I
eventually found out how to fix this.
I then opened the original image into Photoshop and used the quick
selection tool to select some parts of the picture like things that would
be hard to replicate, I then added them into InDesign and used the pen
tool to cover up unwanted parts of them like large pixelated parts of the
picture as when you import images into InDesign they turn slightly
pixelated. And a white box kept on appearing behind them which I
edited out using the pencil tool.
Then I added in the extra little bits like the issue number and the date
and the publishing logo I did this because I knew that most magazines
have issue numbers and barcodes and publishing logos.
5. Pros and cons
Good Bad
InDesign is good to make text The images became pixelated
It’s what professionals use to
create magazines
There wasn’t a fill tool so
colouring images was difficult.
I learnt new skills in magazine
creation
It was difficult to move the images
around
It was different to crop the images
as you have to double click to
make it bigger then click so that it
shows
Some necessary tools are
missing like the rubber and the fill
tool.
Have to create area to make
background
6. What I would change and keep
If I was to do this task again I would edit more images in
Photoshop first before adding then into InDesign straight away
as it was difficult to work with some of the images when I placed
them into InDesign.
If I was to do this again I would keep the images that I took as I
think they were good copies of the original images but I would
add a few more props to them to make it look slightly better.
Also I would use the place and letter box tool more because I
used copy and paste which made the text come up with white
boxes behind them so I had to use the pencil tool to fill in the
gaps which was difficult.
Also I would make more of the text my self instead of taking
them out of the original.
As well I would try and take a picture for the seven psychopaths
instead of using the image form the original magazine cover
7. I do like my recreation but I don’t think it could be the best I
could have done I think I could use Photoshop a bit more
because I can use that easier than InDesign as in designs
tools are limited.
Also I would try and make the model look a little bit more like
James bond in the original image as the model wasn’t facing
in the exact position that the original was standing.
