KINETIC ENERGY The capacity of the physical system to do work is called energy. Kinetic energy is associated with an object in motion.
The kinetic energy of an object with mass m and speed v, when treated as a particle, is given by the expression shown as Kinetic energy is a scalar quantity, and the SI unit for kinetic energy (and all other forms of energy) is the joule.
P R O B L E M A 7 kg bowling ball moves at 3 m/s. How fast must a 2.45 g table tennis ball move in order to have the same kinetic energy as the bowling ball? Is this speed reasonable for a table-tennis ball in play?

  • 2. KINETIC ENERGY The capacity of the physical system to do work is called energy. Kinetic energy is associated with an object in motion.
