Chapter 13
1. Chapter 13 Vocab
1. Circumferential- around on extremity or body part
2. Hyper mobility- the ability of a body part to move beyond the normal range of
motion
3. Hypoallergenic- reduced potential for causing an allergic reaction
4. Spray adherent- an aerosolized liquid that creates a sticky surface to help under
wrap and tape to stay in place
5. Under wrap- a lightweight foam material used as a base for application of tape;
helps to reduce irritation caused by tape
Notes:
1) Athletic tape:
• 1½ inch – for ankle taping, covering, knees
• 1 inch – shin splints, hand, feet
• ½ inch – rarely used, fingers and toes
• White, porous, strong, adheres/ sticks well
2) Pre wrap:
• Under the athletic tape
• Tie hair back
• The tighter the more secure
• Should not be put on lose
• Protects the skin
• Knee taping
3) Spray Adherent:
2. o Under pre warp and tape
o Helps to stick
o Can be used for cuts and blisters
4) Heel and Lace pads:
o Goes under pre wrap
o Made with two stuck together w/ jelly in bet/
o Stops blistering
o Goes on heel and show lace area
5) Elastikon:
Used on Achilles tendon
Strong support, little movement
Has pink strip in the middle
Is a form of elastic tape but do not call it elastic tape
6) Elastic Tape:
Covers injured area
Some stability and allows some movement
7) Tape Cutter
White, razor
Removes tape
8) Ace Bandage:
Used in large muscular areas
Used for compression, not stability
Apply tape on top for stability
