Famous Places Essay
Ever since the late 1970's Athens has become known for its popular bands such as Pylon and B–
52's. These newly famous bands would perform in places such as the 40 Watt Club, Tirone's Bar,
and Georgia Theatre. These places were staple locations for young college students and musicians,
holding memories of good music and fun times. While some of these places still exist due to
renovations or new locations, many of these once famous landmarks have been burnt down or taken
over by new businesses. In order to learn more about famous venues and the music scene I chose to
visit the following locations: Wax Jr. Facts, Uptown Lounge, 40 Watt Club, Last Resort, and the
Georgia Theatre. The first location I visited was Wax Jr. Facts, which is now ... Show more content

As I walked out of the store, I noticed the following items: the large glass display which use to hold
a large neon sign which read "Books", a long row of windows which were located above the
entrance, and an abandoned alleyway located directly next to the store. Some other questions I
wished I asked the clerk include the following: Do you know anything about Wax Jr. Facts, the store
before the Jackson Street Books?; Did you or anyone you know attend the "extravagant beer parties"
that were held at Wax Jr. Facts?; and Did you do any renovations to the building?. Just by visiting
the first location I realized how items such as bookstores were no longer in demand when compared
to clothing stores. The second place I visited was the Uptown Lounge. The Uptown Lounge was a
well–known music venue in Athens. Popular bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Meat Puppets, the
Bar B Q Killers, R.E.M., and Widespread Panic played at the Uptown Lounge. Even though it was
extremely popular during the 1980's, the Uptown Lounge closed in the early 1990's. The business
which now owns the building is a brewing company known as the Copper Creek Brewing Company.
The building is located near North Lumpkin Street and North Washington Street near businesses
such as Fuzzy's Tacos and Docebo. The location of the building was near the central most part of the
city which increased the amount of traffic, loud noises of bells and people talking, and amount

Memories Of My Childhood
My memory of my childhood is fuzzy at best, probably like most people. There are many important
events in my early life I cannot remember, like the events of September 11, 2001, or the first day of
kindergarten. I also do not remember much of my musical life prior to middle school. My family
was not a musical family. We did not constantly play music in our house, if we ever really did. Nor
did my parents very often put on albums that they loved from their younger years. Music mostly
seemed cosigned to car rides, whether the radio for quick car rides from home to school or to the
store, or one of my dad's CDs that he kept in his glovebox for long car rides to visit my grandparents
or my aunt and uncle. Nonetheless, we did listen to music. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Specifically, the radio stations that mostly played the pop and rock hits of the 1970s and 1980s. The
music I can mostly remember my mom enjoying was British and American new wave and synth pop
music. There was a lot of Duran Duran, Culture Club, David Bowie, Talking Heads, and
Bananarama, among others. All of these bands and their songs and genres greatly affected what I
listen to now, and in fact I often will listen to 70s and 80s genre stations now. I also did listen to
whatever pop songs were currently popular at the time on the radio. As always, those hits are hard to
escape from. I would not say there was a lot of music that I particularly disliked when I was a kid. It
was more of a matter of what I was exposed to, or not exposed to. Genres such as rap, hip hop,
R&B, and country were the kinds of music my parents disliked, and therefore I did not listen to
when I was really young. It was not until I started to get older and got to the point where my friends
were a greater influence on me than my family that I started to branch out into listening to those
genres. Despite not being particularly musical, I did play violin from 5th grade until I graduated
high school in my schools' orchestras. My family's musical taste did not have any say in why I
wanted to play that instrument. In fact, I wanted to play the violin because I read a book in
elementary school

Hi Folks, Sorry I have not written in awhile, life's been great. However watching the most recent
Grammy's Awards and perusing what the music industry has become, sadly I can't relate to the
current music scene. Regrettably, Country sounds more like Hip Hop, Americana and Blues are
considered Rock sound eerily similar to Country, and what's worse Gwen Stefani New Live Video

Fortunately, in 1996 her 11 time multi–platinum album "Falling Into You" garnered hits like

Myself". In addition, it put her in the ranks of her idols Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin as a
bona fide R&B powerhouse. Only a few months later into 1997 her single, "My Heart Will Go On"

Descriptive Essay: Carter's Drumstick We live in a society where we are surrounded by advancing
technology and material objects, where many feel they are defined by their possessions ("You are
what you drive, or wear, or drink, etc."), where people feel the need to need to gloat and show off. It
seems more and more seldom that our society's inhabitants actually stop to reflect on what is really
important to them, and appreciate what objects hold true meaning in their hearts and lives. Looking
around, seeing everyone with a phone attached to their ear, or communicating in a virtual reality to
thousands of "friends" is unsettling for many who enjoy a simpler lifestyle. Members of society are

These rhythms connect as well with our outer, more universal rhythms, birds, water flowing, the
wind blowing. Though it is simple to make noise, it takes a gift, a talent, and a genius to truly
reveal, accentuate, and genuinely connect with rhythms of one's inner soul and outer body
experiences. Carter Beauford has this gift; his music is imbued with the essence of his talent and
inspiration. He is like no other, creating transcendent musical magic with that very drumstick, that
drumstick which contains his mojo; it embodies strength and toughness refined to manifest beauty
and truth. The very thought of being able to hold the drumstick of Carter Beauford, sends chills
down Nathan's spine. Holding the drumstick is inspirational not only because of the person from
whom it was obtained, but also because of the nature of the wood, its essence, the history of the
people who used it, named it, grew it, worked it, formed it and transformed it into the instrument it
has become. When holding the piece of fine craftsmanship, Nathan can relax, put his troubles down,
knowing there is no need to bear the weight of his worries and just let them all fall away. People
come and go, stresses in life come and go, but the drumstick has been there during ups and downs,
highs and lows and can always ameliorate all troubles, taking Nathan back to the very moment he
received the drumstick, letting him relive a

There was so much speculation as to what the band would open with for their 25th anniversary
show, and in the most spectacular fashion, they opened with one for their oldest songs, The Song
That Jane likes. To make that moment even more special, Dave's sister Jane was in the crowd
watching the show. After a stellar opener, the band was no doubt feeding off the crowd's energy. 6
songs into the set list was when the audience was caught off guard by the 1st of the 3 new songs to
be debuted that night. The 3 new songs played that night held the titles of, Samurai Cop, Bob Law,
and Bismarck. All of them were very highly received by an ecstatic crowd. The band did a fantastic
job of blending old classics in with their new age material to keep the energy up. In another
surprising turn of events, the band liberated 2 songs that had not been played in years, the 1st of the
2 being a fan favorite, Sugar Will, and the 2nd being the legendary song, The Last Stop.
Dave Matthew's Band played an incredible show that night in Charlottesville, and not a single fan

Grateful Dead Essay
Throughout history there have been many musical "influences". One extremely
important influence to modern music is The Grateful Dead.
The group was formed in 1965 by bluegrass – enthusiast Jerry Garcia on guitar and vocals, Ron
"Pigpen" McKernan on vocals and organ, Bob Weir on guitar and vocals, classical
music student Phil Lesh on bass and vocals, and Bill Kreutzmann on drums. From the beginning,
they brought together a variety of influences, from Garcia's country background to Pigpen's feeling
for blues (his father was an R&B radio DJ) and Lesh's education in contemporary
serious" music. Add to that, the experimentation encouraged at some of the group's first
performances at novelist Ken Kesey's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grisman is a still a renowned mandolinist, but while with Garcia, they both explored the bluegrass
scene. This was Jerry's "foundation" for his musical contributions to the Grateful Dead.
Without Jerry's influence, the Grateful Dead would not have it's distinct earthy timbre or feel that
has been extremely significant in attracting their particular following.
Another contribution to the Dead's style was bassist Phil Lesh. With only formal jazz training on the
trumpet, Lesh picked up a bass and learned as he went while playing with the Grateful Dead's then
nucleus, The Warlocks. Lesh is famous for his jazz improvisational style. This particular style
usually finds his fingers running up and down the neck of a five or six string bass (seen right),
dropping what are affectionately known to fans as "Phil Bombs", furiously low
frequency notes that tend to rumble in auditoriums and can only be created with a five or six string
bass. As one can well imagine, these two aforementioned styles together could create somewhat of
an interesting style. Well, it only gets better.
Bill Kreutzmann, the "heartbeat" of the Grateful Dead, had been behind a kit since the
age of eleven when Jerry Garcia met him in 1962. His early love of drums allowed him to be
heavily involved in the "rock and roll" scene. As a teen, Kreutzmann even created rock
in roll bands in which to play, as the interest was barely there. After meeting

The Legal Issue with Napster and the Music Industry Essay
The Legal Issue with Napster and the Music Industry
The issues that will be slugged out in federal district court in San Francisco sound a little too pop
culture to be all that serious. How many music CDs are people buying these days in record stores
throughout the nation because of Napster? Is the technology that Napster uses legal? Napster is, of
course, the wildly popular file–sharing service whose 20 million users have downloaded some half a
billion songs––most copyrighted for free. The technology that Napster has brought to music
listeners across the globe has allowed the freedom of obtaining music for free and should not be
shut down by the entertainment industry's argument in federal court.
The laws that support a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basically theses two acts state that Napster is neither liable for its users actions and allows its users
to record music (using Napster) for their private use. These are major laws that help support Napster
and digital recording efforts.
Many artists themselves are pro–Napster in many aspects of what they think it brings society.
Napster allows for individuals to hear and experience different forms of music; therefore purchasing
and promoting artists work. Some artists argue that it allows the public to be attentive to music that
artists are putting out on the market. Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit said, "We believe that the Internet
and Napster should not be ignored by the music industry as tools to promote awareness for bands
and market music" (Napster 1). Fred Durst was describing how the music industry needs to
recognize Napster as a type of advertisement of their product. Madonna was also quoted saying;
"Napster could be a great way for people to hear your music who wouldn't have the chance to hear it
on the radio" (Napster 1). This quote from Madonna helps to describe how people are enabled to
hear music from different artists through Napster allowing artists to be heard and be recognized by
the public. Chuck D also supported Napster's use replying, "We should think of (Napster) as a new
kind of radio—a promotional tool that can help

Research Paper Dave Matthews
There are many phenomenal musicians in the world, but very few as diverse and cultured as Dave
Matthews. Matthews was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1967. Matthews and his family
then moved two years later to Westchester County, New York, where his dad went to work for IBM.
Then, in the early `70s, Matthews and his family moved to Cambridge, England, before returning to
New York. It was in Cambridge where Matthews' dad died in 1977 from Hodgkin's disease. After
his father's death, the family moved back to South Africa in 1980. It was here that Matthews went to
a few different schools and learned more about the evils of government, there and in general.

Matthews was to find the best musicians around and surround him with them.
The Dave Matthews Band formed in Charlottesville, Virginia, in early 1991, when Matthews
decided to put some songs he had written on tape. Instead of simply recording himself with a guitar,
he instead decided to bring in some instrumental help to give his musical ideas more depth. His first
move was finding the right people to play the parts in his band that he decided fit. He began his
search and formed the racially integrated band that is now known worldwide and are continuously
ranked in the top five for the largest grossing concert tours of the year. The key roles were soon
filled by phenomenal musicians in the area. Dave found assistance in drummer Carter Beauford and
saxophonist LeRoi Moore who were both accomplished jazz musicians in the local Charlottesville
music scene. Based on the recommendation of distinguished local jazz guru John D'earth, 16–year–
old musical prodigy Stefan Lessard came on board to play bass. Completing the band was keyboard
player Peter Griesar, who left the band after a couple of years, as well as the talented and classically
trained violinist, Boyd Tinsley The band was finally formed, and they played their first official

Blue Man Group Essay
The off the wall antics and odd, but entertaining music style of the Blue Man Group has brought
them to be one of the most popular and successful theater groups in the world today.
The Blue Man Group came into play in 1987. Creators Matt Goldman, a software producer, Chris
Wink, and Phil Stanton, both working as waiters, say the Blue Man Group started as a weekend get
together in which they would invite their friends over and talk about art, science, and whatever else
interested them. The three saw their home city of New York to be a cultural wasteland. "We heard
about this art world thing happening, but you'd go and look, and it was like you were always in the

To fully understand the Blue Man Group, one must come to understand the Blue Man himself. The
character is dressed in all black and painted a special shade of blue created exclusively for the group
but, this is only a very small part of the true Blue Man. The character is very complex. He is part
philosopher, part clown, and part teacher. The three blue men take the audience through a journey of
complex ideas, concepts, and contradictions of life. One finds out how the Blue Man perceives
being human. The blue men have a great amount of positive energy and are very welcoming but, the
character does not speak in the way one may think. The blue men communicate through their eyes
and bodily expressions. "The character stands for the human spirit, even though he has the
emotional range of Mr. Spock on a particularly self–controlled day" (Richheimer, 2). The character
is timid, but passionate. The group worked to create a slightly strange but not frightening character,
one that was loveable but not boring.
"We decided early on that he wouldn't have much facial expression, that he wasn't going to emote.
But at the same time it was important that we impart Blue Man's love and spiritual core. We try to
do it through our eyes. The small portals of emotion, and we try to keep the rest of the face
impassive" (Richheimer, 2).
When asked "Why blue?", Wink replied,
"Blue just felt right from the start. But after we started performing, people began pointing

The Impact of Recording Technology on Music Essay
The Impact of Recording Technology on Music
Most successful musicians know a hidden art carried out by the work of a good sound engineer; it is
essential for a magnificent album. For the rest of us novice listeners and fans, we believe what we
hear through our speakers or played over the radio are the true skilled professional musicians,
soaring at their craft. Most contemporary music, from pop to R&B and acid jazz to the sophisticated
realm of orchestral film scores, has been modernized by several inventions encased within the
studio. The art of audio engineering has taken on new forms, from the nuts and bolts, "plug it in, and
see if it works" era into the digital world, because of these wonderfully tragic solutions to a ... Show

This eliminated the need for highly skilled professional musicians to back up tunes in the studio.
Musicians are expensive as is studio time, so methods were created to save cost while producing the
most equivalent replica of the missing instrumentalists. In addition to cost, another factor that
computers introduced was a faster pace of life. Faster forms of media birthed the creation of T. V.
networks such as MTV and VH1 to carry popular music at an incredible rate to viewers. A majority
of pop music artists in the last decade have one thing in common: their fame rose and declined faster
than high school relationships. Faster life means a demand to have better quality music, with low
cost, with people who were not focusing on music as an art, but as a way to get thousands of teen
females screaming their name. Musicians have to export larger quantities of music which is current
and within the boundaries of trends. The perfect solution came around the late 1970s in a format
known as MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface). In a simple explanation, a MIDI file is a
blueprint, which is sent to a reading machine. This machine has various spectrum data programmed
corresponding to different instruments. The rather small MIDI file is then read, and interpreted to
match the desired synthesized sound. The quality of the sound produced depends on the

My Experience Of My Music : My Life Of Music
The air was buzzing with soft whispers and laughter. My stomach was in all sorts of knots. I could
feel my heart thumping vigorously inside my chest. It was a hot night and the giant sun–like lights
that shined down on us from the McCallum theatre didn't help at all. I held my bass guitar with a
tight grip, repeating the notes I had practiced over and over in my head.
Music has always been a thing in my family, a special thing most of us share. Family gatherings or
parties never went without the sounds of guitars, pianos, or voices filling the atmosphere. They
enjoyed displaying their talent and had such fun becoming this joyful human jukebox.
I was always the timid kid. I never liked attention and avoided the spotlight at all cost, even if it was
around the people I knew and loved. I was too shy to sing and too shy to play the instruments I had
knowledge of. When I joined band in high–school I never knew I would be able to overcome this
struggle. I started off in marching band , playing auxiliary percussion. I then became part of the jazz
band where I was the lead piano player. I enjoyed everything about band especially how we could
become one sound and jam to all sorts of music selections. One day our band teacher presented us
with an opportunity to join a latin/salsa band. Practices would be held after school and he would not
be the instructor. They needed a bass player and our current jazz band bass player did not want to
join. I remember hesitating at the thought

Over an incredibly short career of only fifteen years, Oliver Goldsmith captured a large audience of
British readers through his novels, poems, plays, and other publications. Born on November 10th,
1730, Goldsmith grew up a happy child in rural Ireland, an experience that affected most of his
work. After attending 6 different schools, he entered Trinity College in Dublin, and graduated with
his Bachelor of Arts in 1750. In 1752, Goldsmith studied medicine in Edinburgh, dropped out, and

His selfishness is realized when he admits that he "still had hopes...there to return––and die at home
at last", revealing that he simply wants the village there for his personal gain (Goldsmith 95–96).
Even worse, he recognizes that the peasants live in poverty, yet describes them as "very blest"
(Goldsmith 426). Goldsmith fails to recognize that people often move only when it betters their
current situation. Oliver Goldsmith is not the only author who argues against the loss of culture. The
Dave Matthews Band also speaks out against this in their song "Don't Drink the Water". This song is
aimed at the expatriation of Native Americans, but also touches on the loss of culture from wealth.
"Don't Drink the Water" is narrated through the eyes of a member of the encroaching populace, who
says "Your father's spirit lives in this place / I will silence you." (Dave Matthews Band 21–22).
These lines show the culture of the natives, or "father's spirit", is being destroyed by "greedy need",
or wealth (Dave Matthews Band 42, 21). The same message is voiced when Goldsmith laments that
"...Trade's unfeeling train", which represents wealth, "Usurp the land and dispossess the swain.", or
strip culture from the youth, who carry the responsibility of continuing tradition (Goldsmith 64).

The Five I's of of Transcendentalism in the Modern Day
According to the New York Times, teenagers listen to an average of 2.5 hours of music in a singular
day. The messages coming through in each song may vary between drug/alcohol reference or
transcendentalism. No matter where there is music, there is a lesson to be learned through ideas that
Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau created. Though transcendentalism is a relatively
foreign word to most, it can be defined by using five i's: individualism, inspiration, intuition,
idealism and imagination which are displayed on all platforms of music today. The different music
genres may vary between music from the late 1990's and children's movies today.

released in 1998 and intuition has not been as relevant in comparison to the transcendentalism era,
Steve Jobs, a former Apple CEO, founder, chairman, and innovator once announced "Have the
courage to follow your heart and intuition." According to a study conducted by Tel Aviv University
in Israel, going with a gut feeling is the most effective tool. When patients were forced to choose

right call. Making decisions based on one's self alone has kept the human race alive for thousands of
years and it will continue to do so if an individual only thought to trust a gut feeling just as Dave
Matthews, Steve Jobs, and the Tel Aviv University have been affirming from different platforms of
research and experience.

Record Store Day Hits Vegas
This next Saturday April 22nd Las Vegas, and every major city in the US will be celebrating the
10th edition of Record Store Day, an initiative started on the U.S. and now turned into a worldwide

which was in part modeled after a similar event, which focused on celebrating and promoting comic
book culture. This once a year event has proven to significantly increase the traffic and profits for
independent record stores, an achievement made possible through the collaboration of artists and

The Evolution of Folk Music Vocals
The Evolution of Folk Music Vocals
By its definition, folk music technically refers to indigenous forms of music created by local,
regional or native populations as a way of engaging in cultural expression. This means that at its
core, folk music is not intended to command a commercial value nor is it necessarily folk music by
definition once a form has been co–opted by an outside culture. However, this is also a definition for
folk which has long been rendered obsolete by the aesthetic and vocal qualities that listeners tend to
associate with the genre today. This is because the most historically significant instances in which
folk music converged with the commercial zeitgeist would come to produce a highly distinctive set
of sounds.
Indeed, when we think of folk music, one tends instantly to conjure image of a young Bob Dylan
with harmonica rack and guitar, wheezing his half–singing, half–speaking vocal style in Greenwich
Village. This iconic vision from the Folk Revival of the 1960s is probably the best bridge that we
have to folk influences like the socialist activists of the Almanac Singers and the Weavers, like Delta
country folk singers like Mississippi John Hurt or Josh White, or like bluegrass innovators such as
the Carter Family. Indeed, Nelson (2010) tells that figures such as "Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and
John and Alan Lomax, made a huge impact on folk music in America, one which is still felt today. It
is likely that their joint efforts with each other and

Song Analysis Dave Matthews Band : Gravedigger Essay
The Dave Matthews Band has been a musical power house for years. They have meshed together
almost every type of music together to create their extremely unique sounds and attractiveness
towards their music. Dave Matthews, lead singer and guitarist from South Africa has put together a
band that no one will ever be able to create again. Dave picked four extremely talented and unique
sounding men to join his band and together they have created some amazing music. The members of
the band include Stefan Lessard on bass, Boyd Tinsley on violin, Leroi Moore on saxophone and
one of the best drummers in the world, Carter Beauford. Together these men will one day leave
behind a similar reputation as one of the all time greatest "jam" bands of time. ... Show more content

The song consist of four stanzas: three that tell stories of people's lives, and the last a riddle which
brings comedy into the song. In the first stanza we are introduced to Cyrus Jones. "Cyrus Jones
1810 to 1913,/ made his great grandchildren believe you could live to 100 and 3/ a 100 and 3, is
forever when you're just a little kid so/ Cyrus Jones lived forever. " The second stanza allows us to
meet Muriel Stonewall. She lived 51 years and during those years in her life, was forced to send her
sons off in World War II, and then bury them. By the time we are introduced to Mickey Carson, the
melody and voice in the song are increased, which intensifies the listener's curiosity of what the
narrator is talking about. Mickey Carson rode his bike and longed to be like Mr. Vertigo on the
flying trapeze, he died at 62. Their live and their deaths are treated delicately in the song, but then
laid uncovered in the video. Yes, besides being a great–grandfather, Cyrus Jones was also a slave,
and yes, you see his lashing at his master's hands. The fresh scars are hard to ignore, as are the tears
of Murial Stonewall, who "lost both of her babies in the second great war." Along with the
description of the characters, Dave uses literary devices to make his song more descriptive and

The Grateful Dead Essay
The Grateful Dead
The Grateful Dead was a band that toured continuously for 30 years until the death of lead man
Jerry Garcia. They were known for free flowing jams and bluegrass roots. Phish is a band that has
toured consistently for the last 17 years and has in time made themselves into stealth multi–
millionaires. Both are very talented bands, who have and in the Dead's case, had, created big names
for themselves. Many people make wrongful association with these two groups of musicians. It is
said that Phish is trying to be the Dead of this generation. This statement is very untrue. Phish is not

A third thing they have in common is their fans (Deadheads and Phans). The Grateful Dead and
Phish have both established quite a following. These fans follow their favorite band around the
country to see their shows(this phan has been to over 25 Phish shows). They also collect their
favorite shows on cd–r or tape, since both bands have an open taping policy at their concerts. By
doing this, Phish and the Dead opened up a new hobby; and other bands have gone along with open
taping (e.g. Dave Matthews Band, Moe., Bela Fleck).
Although these two bands do similar things with their music, the music itself is considerably
different. I think the reason Phish is labeled "Children of the Dead" is because of their early years
playing small gigs at Nector's bar in Vermont. They were just starting out, and did not have enough
original songs to have a complete set list. This forced Phish to do many cover songs. Mike Gordon
(bassist), the only real Dead fan in Phish coaxed his fellow band mates to cover some Grateful Dead
tunes, along with covers from other various artists and their own originals. The Dead songs were
played on very few occasions, and the songs were "Fire on the Mountain" and "Scarlet Begonias"
(commonly known as Fire*Scarlet). After a while people started calling Phish a Grateful Dead cover
band, even though they covered a few Dead

Biography of Sylvester Stewart
Sly Stone was born in Dallas, Texas on March 15th, 1944. Sly Stone's original birth name was
Sylvester Stewart which later he selected to change his name for the stage as Sly Stone after
becoming a producer for Autumn Records. Known for creating some of the best funk music of his
time, Stone also collaborated with other styles of music such as soul, rock, gospel, and psychedelia.
He influenced Motown and Stax as well which were the two most popular record companies
producing blues, jazz, and soul music. Stone's voice was raspy, yet when he sang, he sang with
upbeat and good vibe lyrics. Stone had a new style of music being created with his band, a style in
which held attitude and a point of view on what they believed in. Sly and the Family Stone was an
integrated band of blacks, whites, women, and men. The freedom that everyone heard within the
lyrics of Stone and the band, painted a picture of how the band wanted the world to be. The band,
especially Stone, held a vision of a utopia for the world they lived in. Stone mastered many
instruments at a young age, but Stone was heard on the records mainly through this vocals being the
head singer and songwriter. However, often you could catch Stone playing the keyboards or the
guitar as well. Throughout Stone and his band's career, through the years depending on what was
going on in the world and personally in the band, the music and lyrics did change. You could find

Comparison Between Oasis And Dave Matthews Band
When one thinks of rock and roll there is a whole list of adjectives to describe a band. The groups
can go from laid back to an in your face, ultra loud show of shows. There are many differences in
rock bands and none is greater than the deviation between
Oasis and Dave Matthews Band. From upbringing to influences, the differences are represented in
the music and those who live for it.
They might be under the same category but there are very few comparisons that are so far apart.
Oasis is the foremost representative of a working class band. Their hometown of Manchester,
England is a tough town of industry. The people are known for they're hard work and even harder
partying. In contrast, Dave Matthews was raised on a
South African ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drugs were a major part of the bands early years and so was hard, ear blasting rock and roll.
Matthews once criticized this behavior by Oasis as he proclaimed his own virginity in the drug
world.
In typical Oasis fashion, Matthews was dismissed with swear words and the raising of a certain
finger.
Perhaps the biggest difference between the two bands is their music and fan base. Oasis is known
for literally playing at maximum level, while Matthews has a mellower and almost soothing concert
sound level. He also has a very limited stage with little lighting as compared to Oasis' dazzling
effects that seem to pulse with the music. These flashing lights seem to activate the rowdy crowd
found at the typical Oasis show. The model fan is ready to jump for two hours straight and they are
the complete opposites of the usual Dave
Matthews Band fan.
While the Oasis fan hops, you notice they casually dress in plain pants and striped T–shirts. The
Dave Matthews fan is uniformly dressed in Old Navy clothing and preppy khaki pants.
They are concerned how close they look like the person next to them and the Oasis fan wears
whatever is most clean when they wake up. In essence, the Oasis fan cares about the music and not
the scene. A
Dave Matthew's concert is more of a college event than a rock concert.
Overall, the difference between the two is more than clothing or lights. It is about the music and
about the people who flock for it by the

Analysis Of All Along The Watchtower
"All Along the Watchtower" is known as a classic rock song, but was originally crafted by Bob
Dylan in 1967. Artists like Pearl Jam, U2, Dave Matthews Band and Eric Clapton have all covered
this song, but notably the most famous version would be Jimi Hendrix' rendition. A year after the
song's original release, Hendrix covered the unknown Bob Dylan song and propelled its legacy.
Both songs draw different artistry and interpretations, but the concept is fundamentally the same. In
the original Bob Dylan song, the general vibe was folk or even folk rock. The song form is simple
verse, as the text of the song contains three verses. The tempo is generally slow, and steady
throughout the entire song. Rhythm is kept throughout the song with the acoustic guitar. The beat is
kept by backbeat drums, but are relatively subtle to the timbre of the song. The instrumentation of
"All Along the Watchtower" includes acoustic guitar, drums and the use of the harmonica. The
harmonica shines through two solos and the outro in the song (first solo 0:45–1:00, second solo
1:29–1:44, and outro 2:12–2:31). Bob Dylan's vocals are unrestrained throughout the song, differing
in pitch. He elevates to higher and lower pitches to create a mysterious message in the lyrics.
Lyrically, this song is debated as one of Dylan's most poetic titles, as no concrete conclusions have
been made on what the song is actually about. The lyrical melody of the song also sells its folk
repertoire to

Dave Matthews Band
Formed in 1991, The Dave Matthews Band is composed of the widely varied musical interests of
five musicians to create a uniquely impressive sound that combines the influences of folk, Jazz,
rock, world beat, and reggae. South African David Matthews, the band's lead guitarist, began to
assemble the players in 1991 to accompany him on a demo tape of original songs. Matthews, at the
time was a bartender at a Charlottesville, Va. Jazz venue, called Millers. Matthews decided to
approach the area musicians he most respected, and invite them to listen to his musical ideas. He
approached Leroi Moore and Carter Beauford first, two musicians that he respected greatly. After

Carter landed a job on pianist Ramsey Lewis's BET Jazz show, "Bet on Jazz." In January of 1991,
Carter moved back to Charlottesville, playing random gigs and taping the BET show. When
Matthews heard Carter was back in Virginia, he decided to approach him about making the demo
tape. Matthews, Beauford, and Moore then approached Stefan
Lessard, who at 16, was already an accomplished upright bass player The trio asked
Stefan to play electric bass guitar for the newly forming band. Lessard was already a very well
respected bass player in the Jazz circles of Virginia. He converted to the electric bass for the band.
The bass is really the only non "acoustic" instrument in the band. Sometimes, though, Lessard uses
the upright. Stefan considers revolutionary bass player Jaco
Pastorius to be his greatest musical influence. While recording the demo one of the tunes seemed to
need a supporting violin, the group then sought out Boyd Tinsely who was a classical violinist until
1985, when he switched over to rock and roll. Before joining Dave, Carter, Leroi, and Stefan, Boyd
played with a few local outfits. He had his Boyd Tinsley Band, which he continued to play with
until 93, and he played with Down Boy Down, an acoustic duo that played fraternity parties and
college bars around Charlottesville. After playing with the new band on the demo tape, Tinsley

Christopher McCandless: Rebellious, Suicidal Narcissist
Transcendentalism is a religious, philosophical, literary, and social movement of the nineteenth
century. Essentially, this movement was based upon the ideals of the "sixth sense," nature, and non–
conformity, as well as individualism, intuition, idealism, imagination, and inspiration. A few of the
works featured in the transcendental unit include Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, Song of Myself by
Walt Whitman, and Walden by Ralph Waldo Emerson. The primary focus of this essay is to provide
an opinion on a strikingly debatable topic; Whether or not Christopher McCandless, hero of
Krakauer's Into the Wild, was a true transcendentalist. Despite the bold actions of Chris McCandless
on his daring Alaskan odyssey, he turned out to be far from a true transcendentalist, failing to meet
the definition of transcendentalism, being solely concerned with himself, and acting out of revenge
rather than seeking self discovery – nothing more than a childish suicidal rebel.
To begin with, McCandless did not present the slightest interest in religion. An issue is created here
due to the fact that religion was a large portion of the transcendental movement. Transcendentalists
believed that there is a unity between nature and God; That one may discover God through
immersing themselves in nature. They also held the belief that God is present in each individual;
That humans as a whole form God because a fragment of Him is within each human being.
Christopher McCandless did not share these beliefs.

Napster was a digital file sharing program that was highly controversial. People say different things

the music industry forever – some would say for the worse"(vox). The music companies and
musicians were deeply troubled by Napster. Was this the end of the music industry or was it just the

a college dropout. He had an idea called peer to peer. It allowed people to download music directly
off other people's computers via the internet (Communications of the ACM). They were essentially
getting paid music for free.
Some of the musicians say that Napster is changing the music industry in a good way. "Napster: It is

This song is also about society being too greedy and never being satisfied with what they have and
always wanting more.
"#41" is named so because it was the forty–first song the band recorded. It's about Dave losing
someone you love and wanting them back. Dave is saying he knows she might need some time but
he's ready and tries to go slow, "I'm coming slow but speeding," but his feelings are too strong and
he will do whatever it takes to convince her even if it hurts him in the end (Lyrics). It also references
his rise to fame and people coming to him for that rather than the music.
The sixth song on the album is "Say Goodbye" expressing Dave's desire for a friend. Throughout the
song he's talking about taking this relationship to the next level even though he knows that
everything will change after this night, but he's trying to convince himself that it won't.
"Drive in drive out" features Dave singing with a much raspier deeper voice then most the other
songs. This song references an on again off again relationship. This is apparent in the line, "Drive in
drive out, I'm leaving, drive in drive out, I'll come back again", as in he leaves the relationship
(drive out) and then comes back to it again (drive in) (Lyrics). It also showcases the band's drummer

to myself as I looked in the trunk and nothing was there. "Looks like everythings inside" I thought
to myself. I dashed to the house and "Plop" I made when I faced planted onto the concrete. I didn't
care one bit about as I saw my cousins walking to me. I scrambled up and raced myself to them
(Surprisingly I won). I gave them a big o´l Brayden Deluxe Hug and I'm going to be totally honest I
might have accidentally squeezed all the air out of them.

Descriptive Essay
The Backhandspring That Changed Me Forever I grab the tiny green bowl in front of Autumn and
place it in the stainless steel sink. I swipe my hand under the faucet and clear water comes pouring
out. The remains of the now cold mac'n'cheese soaks up the water and swirls down the drain. I look
over my shoulder to my sweet Autumn, who is still sitting in the chair with her tiny arms and filthy
fingers draped on the counter. "Autumn honey," I say. "Go wash your hands." She glances at me and
crinkles her nose. "But, mommy, I don't want to." she whines. "If you want to go on the water
trampoline with daddy then you have to." She still doesn't move. "1,2,..." I start counting. Autumn's
body pops up. She quickly climbs like a monkey down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It makes me so happy to see her excited when she finally gets one. My attention is drawn to Autumn
again, who is doing a front flip. She has never landed one, but I have faith that she will soon. I close
my eyes and start to doze off when I hear a scream. My motherly instincts immediately flow
through my blood and I burst up. Is Autumn okay? Is Jim okay? I start sprinting down the dock by
the trampoline. I almost fall in the water as I halt to a stop.
"What happened!" I yell nervously." Is Autumn hurt?" My husband looks at me in confusion.
"What do you mean? Autumn just landed her front flip!" My husband announced joyfully. I glimpse
down at Autumn, her face is lit up. I smile. I throw my arms up in happiness. Then, a memory erupts
in my brain like a volcano. I start to remember the first time I did my backhandspring by myself... *
* * * * * I stare down the long slick black tumble track, with red mats on both sides squishing it into
a sandwich. A female figure waits for me at the end of it. Sweat rolls down my face. I need to do it, I
tell myself, Coach Jenni is there to spot me. "You can do it Kendall." Jenni says. "Just keep
everything tight."
"Okay I can do this." I copy. The words of reassurance build up my confidence. You'll be safe, I take
a deep breath. Three, Two, One. I go. Everything 's a blur, from the hurdle to the ending rebound. I
stand up, magically appearing next to Jenni. I did it? I did it!!!!!!! My face glows with

Radiohead Accomplishments
Radiohead is a national phenomena by helping create a different and unique genre of music. They
have had great accomplishments in their careers that have made impacts in music, and how they
have influenced the world of music. They have helped created a different genre and became an
independent artist. They have donated to many charities and have won many awards. They should
be inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame not only from how they stand out from other artists, but the
sound of their music, and what they have accomplished.
Radiohead has had successful milestones in their history. They have won numerous awards, and
have had many nominations in their career. They won best alternative album in 2008 for the album
In Rainbows,in 2000 for the album A Kid,and in 1997 for OK Computer. They had won the awards
in a span just a few years out of their careers, which many artists struggle to do. Radiohead has

They were one of the first bands to popularize the blend of rock and electronic music. "On releases
like OK Computer and Particularly Kid A, obliterated the boundaries of rock and electronic music.",
(5 ways).Their creative look upon music and skilled artistry changed music for the better and led
them to success. Radiohead has became an independent band, not to be signed by a record company
and has influenced other artist to do so.They ushered in independent era. " Radiohead's post album
In Rainbows success has emboldened other artist to for go the major label route and remain
independent." Artist like Pearl Jam and Chance the Rapper have followed their lead, (5 steps).
Becoming an independent artist was a bold step in their careers, and helped other artist notice that
you don't need a label for fame. Radiohead is not afraid to be bold or different with their career
choices. I think that's why they have succeeded so

Victor Wooten Redefines The Word Musician
Victor Wooten redefines the word musician. Regaled as the most influential bassist since Jaco
Pastorius, Victor is known for his solo recordings and tours, and as a member of the Grammy–
winning supergroup, Béla Fleck & The Flecktones. He is an innovator on the bass guitar, as well as
a talented composer, arranger, producer, vocalist and multi–instrumentalist. But those gifts only
begin to tell the tale of this Tennessee titan.
Victor is the loving husband and devoted father of four; the youngest sibling of the amazing Wooten
brothers (Regi, Roy, Rudy and Joseph), and the bassist in their famed family band; the student in the
martial art of Wing Chun and the nature survival skill of Tracking; the teacher of dozens of Bass
players at his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the Flecktones in full flight, Victor set his sights on a solo career, first forming Bass Extremes
with fellow low–end lord Steve Bailey (leading to an instructional book/CD and two CDs, to date),
and finally releasing his critically–acclaimed solo debut, A Show of Hands, in 1996. Soon after, Vic
took his solo show on the road with drummer J.D. Blair. Momentum and accolades built with
successive tours and the release of What Did He Say? in 1997, the Grammy–nominated Yin–Yang
in 1999 and the double CD, Live In America in 2001.
Wooten won two Nashville Music Awards for Bassist Of The Year and is the only three–time winner
of Bass Player magazine 's Bass Player Of The Year. With the honors came sideman calls, leading to
recordings and performances with artists like Branford Marsalis, Mike Stern, Bruce Hornsby, Chick
Corea, Dave Matthews, Prince, Gov 't Mule, Susan Tedeschi, Vital Tech Tones (with Scott
Henderson and Steve Smith), the Jaco Pastorius Word Of Mouth Big Band, and the soundtrack of
the Disney film Country Bears, not to mention the stellar work with guitarist Greg Howe and
Dennis Chambers with the group Howe Wooten and Chambers.
Fresh off sold–out tours with the Flecktones and Bass Extremes (with Bailey, Watson and Oteil
Burbridge) in 2004, Victor is re–focusing

I Stand Here Ironing, an Analysis Essay
"I Stand Here Ironing" by Tillie Olsen is a short story that talks about a handicapped child. Emily
had to struggle a whole lot on her short life, but at the end she proved to be a very strong child.
Tillie Olsen's characterization of Emily shows a strong female protagonist who overcomes
numerous odds: loneliness, humbleness, vulnerability, and her disability.
The story is based on a child named Emily that has a physical disability. Emily lived in a family of
five children. "She always had a reason why we should stay home" (Olsen 601). Emily is lonely.
When she was a toddler, she was left in a day care so Emily's mom could bring income to the house.

She was looking for a way to keep her mom within her reach. Unfortunately her mom had to go to
the hospital and have a baby. "Susan telling jokes
and riddles to company for applause while Emily sat silent (to say to me later: that was my riddle,
Mother, I told it to Susan)" (Olson 603). Emily was a child that did not have any envy towards her
sister Susan, because she was so much different in many aspects. The difference of the age did not
interfere. Emily was always willing to play and teach her sister new things. They shared so many
things and enjoyed the company of each other. Their mother sometimes would keep Emily home so
they could spend time together. Emily would take advantage of her illnesses, so her mom would
keep her home.
Emily is very vulnerable mostly because of her appearance. "She tormented herself enough about
not looking like the others, there was enough of the unsureness, the having to be conscious of works
before you speak, the constant caring–what are they thinking of me? Without having it all magnified
by the merciless physical drivers" (Olson 603). Emily is a skinny, fragile, and sick child, and in the
outer world, other kids without values would point her out. Emily is always insecure about what she
says, or does in front of others. The insecurity of not being able to be her own person is always on
her mind.
Emily spends time with her mother at night time. She makes

Famous Places Essay

  • 1. Famous Places Essay Ever since the late 1970's Athens has become known for its popular bands such as Pylon and B– 52's. These newly famous bands would perform in places such as the 40 Watt Club, Tirone's Bar, and Georgia Theatre. These places were staple locations for young college students and musicians, holding memories of good music and fun times. While some of these places still exist due to renovations or new locations, many of these once famous landmarks have been burnt down or taken over by new businesses. In order to learn more about famous venues and the music scene I chose to visit the following locations: Wax Jr. Facts, Uptown Lounge, 40 Watt Club, Last Resort, and the Georgia Theatre. The first location I visited was Wax Jr. Facts, which is now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As I walked out of the store, I noticed the following items: the large glass display which use to hold a large neon sign which read "Books", a long row of windows which were located above the entrance, and an abandoned alleyway located directly next to the store. Some other questions I wished I asked the clerk include the following: Do you know anything about Wax Jr. Facts, the store before the Jackson Street Books?; Did you or anyone you know attend the "extravagant beer parties" that were held at Wax Jr. Facts?; and Did you do any renovations to the building?. Just by visiting the first location I realized how items such as bookstores were no longer in demand when compared to clothing stores. The second place I visited was the Uptown Lounge. The Uptown Lounge was a well–known music venue in Athens. Popular bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Meat Puppets, the Bar B Q Killers, R.E.M., and Widespread Panic played at the Uptown Lounge. Even though it was extremely popular during the 1980's, the Uptown Lounge closed in the early 1990's. The business which now owns the building is a brewing company known as the Copper Creek Brewing Company. The building is located near North Lumpkin Street and North Washington Street near businesses such as Fuzzy's Tacos and Docebo. The location of the building was near the central most part of the city which increased the amount of traffic, loud noises of bells and people talking, and amount ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Memories Of My Childhood My memory of my childhood is fuzzy at best, probably like most people. There are many important events in my early life I cannot remember, like the events of September 11, 2001, or the first day of kindergarten. I also do not remember much of my musical life prior to middle school. My family was not a musical family. We did not constantly play music in our house, if we ever really did. Nor did my parents very often put on albums that they loved from their younger years. Music mostly seemed cosigned to car rides, whether the radio for quick car rides from home to school or to the store, or one of my dad's CDs that he kept in his glovebox for long car rides to visit my grandparents or my aunt and uncle. Nonetheless, we did listen to music. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Specifically, the radio stations that mostly played the pop and rock hits of the 1970s and 1980s. The music I can mostly remember my mom enjoying was British and American new wave and synth pop music. There was a lot of Duran Duran, Culture Club, David Bowie, Talking Heads, and Bananarama, among others. All of these bands and their songs and genres greatly affected what I listen to now, and in fact I often will listen to 70s and 80s genre stations now. I also did listen to whatever pop songs were currently popular at the time on the radio. As always, those hits are hard to escape from. I would not say there was a lot of music that I particularly disliked when I was a kid. It was more of a matter of what I was exposed to, or not exposed to. Genres such as rap, hip hop, R&B, and country were the kinds of music my parents disliked, and therefore I did not listen to when I was really young. It was not until I started to get older and got to the point where my friends were a greater influence on me than my family that I started to branch out into listening to those genres. Despite not being particularly musical, I did play violin from 5th grade until I graduated high school in my schools' orchestras. My family's musical taste did not have any say in why I wanted to play that instrument. In fact, I wanted to play the violin because I read a book in elementary school ... • 3. Pop Music Research Paper Hi Folks, Sorry I have not written in awhile, life's been great. However watching the most recent Grammy's Awards and perusing what the music industry has become, sadly I can't relate to the current music scene. Regrettably, Country sounds more like Hip Hop, Americana and Blues are considered Rock sound eerily similar to Country, and what's worse Gwen Stefani New Live Video was no more than a advertising vehicle to promote Target. However, with a new year brings new hope and reflection as well to delve into the past. How poignant to rewind back 20 years to 1996. Let's look back at the year in music for 1996. Granted she had success in prior years with songs "Think Twice" and "The Power Of Love" . Fortunately, in 1996 her 11 time multi–platinum album "Falling Into You" garnered hits like "Because you Loved Me", "It's All Coming Back To Me Now", and a Eric Carmen cover "All By Myself". In addition, it put her in the ranks of her idols Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin as a bona fide R&B powerhouse. • 4. Describing a Treasured Bject Descriptive Essay: Carter's Drumstick We live in a society where we are surrounded by advancing technology and material objects, where many feel they are defined by their possessions ("You are what you drive, or wear, or drink, etc."), where people feel the need to need to gloat and show off. It seems more and more seldom that our society's inhabitants actually stop to reflect on what is really important to them, and appreciate what objects hold true meaning in their hearts and lives. Looking around, seeing everyone with a phone attached to their ear, or communicating in a virtual reality to thousands of "friends" is unsettling for many who enjoy a simpler lifestyle. These rhythms connect as well with our outer, more universal rhythms, birds, water flowing, the wind blowing. Though it is simple to make noise, it takes a gift, a talent, and a genius to truly reveal, accentuate, and genuinely connect with rhythms of one's inner soul and outer body experiences. Carter Beauford has this gift; his music is imbued with the essence of his talent and inspiration. He is like no other, creating transcendent musical magic with that very drumstick, that drumstick which contains his mojo; it embodies strength and toughness refined to manifest beauty and truth. The very thought of being able to hold the drumstick of Carter Beauford, sends chills down Nathan's spine. Holding the drumstick is inspirational not only because of the person from whom it was obtained, but also because of the nature of the wood, its essence, the history of the people who used it, named it, grew it, worked it, formed it and transformed it into the instrument it has become. When holding the piece of fine craftsmanship, Nathan can relax, put his troubles down, knowing there is no need to bear the weight of his worries and just let them all fall away. People come and go, stresses in life come and go, but the drumstick has been there during ups and downs, highs and lows and can always ameliorate all troubles, taking Nathan back to the very moment he received the drumstick, letting him relive a ... The group was formed in 1965 by bluegrass – enthusiast Jerry Garcia on guitar and vocals, Ron "Pigpen" McKernan on vocals and organ, Bob Weir on guitar and vocals, classical music student Phil Lesh on bass and vocals, and Bill Kreutzmann on drums. From the beginning, they brought together a variety of influences, from Garcia's country background to Pigpen's feeling for blues (his father was an R&B radio DJ) and Lesh's education in contemporary serious" music. Without Jerry's influence, the Grateful Dead would not have it's distinct earthy timbre or feel that has been extremely significant in attracting their particular following. Another contribution to the Dead's style was bassist Phil Lesh. With only formal jazz training on the trumpet, Lesh picked up a bass and learned as he went while playing with the Grateful Dead's then nucleus, The Warlocks. Lesh is famous for his jazz improvisational style. This particular style usually finds his fingers running up and down the neck of a five or six string bass (seen right), dropping what are affectionately known to fans as "Phil Bombs", furiously low frequency notes that tend to rumble in auditoriums and can only be created with a five or six string bass. As one can well imagine, these two aforementioned styles together could create somewhat of an interesting style. Well, it only gets better. Bill Kreutzmann, the "heartbeat" of the Grateful Dead, had been behind a kit since the age of eleven when Jerry Garcia met him in 1962. The blue men communicate through their eyes and bodily expressions. The group worked to create a slightly strange but not frightening character, one that was loveable but not boring. "We decided early on that he wouldn't have much facial expression, that he wasn't going to emote. But at the same time it was important that we impart Blue Man's love and spiritual core. Most contemporary music, from pop to R&B and acid jazz to the sophisticated realm of orchestral film scores, has been modernized by several inventions encased within the studio. Musicians are expensive as is studio time, so methods were created to save cost while producing the most equivalent replica of the missing instrumentalists. In addition to cost, another factor that computers introduced was a faster pace of life. Faster forms of media birthed the creation of T. V. networks such as MTV and VH1 to carry popular music at an incredible rate to viewers. A majority of pop music artists in the last decade have one thing in common: their fame rose and declined faster than high school relationships. Faster life means a demand to have better quality music, with low cost, with people who were not focusing on music as an art, but as a way to get thousands of teen females screaming their name. Musicians have to export larger quantities of music which is current and within the boundaries of trends. The perfect solution came around the late 1970s in a format known as MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface). The Dave Matthews Band also speaks out against this in their song "Don't Drink the Water". This song is aimed at the expatriation of Native Americans, but also touches on the loss of culture from wealth. The Evolution of Folk Music Vocals The Evolution of Folk Music Vocals By its definition, folk music technically refers to indigenous forms of music created by local, regional or native populations as a way of engaging in cultural expression. This means that at its core, folk music is not intended to command a commercial value nor is it necessarily folk music by definition once a form has been co–opted by an outside culture. However, this is also a definition for folk which has long been rendered obsolete by the aesthetic and vocal qualities that listeners tend to associate with the genre today. This is because the most historically significant instances in which folk music converged with the commercial zeitgeist would come to produce a highly distinctive set of sounds. Indeed, when we think of folk music, one tends instantly to conjure image of a young Bob Dylan with harmonica rack and guitar, wheezing his half–singing, half–speaking vocal style in Greenwich Village. This iconic vision from the Folk Revival of the 1960s is probably the best bridge that we have to folk influences like the socialist activists of the Almanac Singers and the Weavers, like Delta country folk singers like Mississippi John Hurt or Josh White, or like bluegrass innovators such as the Carter Family. By doing this, Phish and the Dead opened up a new hobby; and other bands have gone along with open taping (e.g. Dave Matthews Band, Moe., Bela Fleck). Although these two bands do similar things with their music, the music itself is considerably different. I think the reason Phish is labeled "Children of the Dead" is because of their early years playing small gigs at Nector's bar in Vermont. They were just starting out, and did not have enough original songs to have a complete set list. This forced Phish to do many cover songs. Known for creating some of the best funk music of his time, Stone also collaborated with other styles of music such as soul, rock, gospel, and psychedelia. He influenced Motown and Stax as well which were the two most popular record companies producing blues, jazz, and soul music. Stone's voice was raspy, yet when he sang, he sang with upbeat and good vibe lyrics. Stone had a new style of music being created with his band, a style in which held attitude and a point of view on what they believed in. Sly and the Family Stone was an integrated band of blacks, whites, women, and men. The freedom that everyone heard within the lyrics of Stone and the band, painted a picture of how the band wanted the world to be. The band, especially Stone, held a vision of a utopia for the world they lived in. Stone mastered many instruments at a young age, but Stone was heard on the records mainly through this vocals being the head singer and songwriter. • 22. Comparison Between Oasis And Dave Matthews Band When one thinks of rock and roll there is a whole list of adjectives to describe a band. The groups can go from laid back to an in your face, ultra loud show of shows. There are many differences in rock bands and none is greater than the deviation between Oasis and Dave Matthews Band. From upbringing to influences, the differences are represented in the music and those who live for it. They might be under the same category but there are very few comparisons that are so far apart. Oasis is the foremost representative of a working class band. Their hometown of Manchester, England is a tough town of industry. The people are known for they're hard work and even harder partying. In contrast, Dave Matthews was raised on a South African ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Drugs were a major part of the bands early years and so was hard, ear blasting rock and roll. Matthews once criticized this behavior by Oasis as he proclaimed his own virginity in the drug world. In typical Oasis fashion, Matthews was dismissed with swear words and the raising of a certain finger. Perhaps the biggest difference between the two bands is their music and fan base. Oasis is known for literally playing at maximum level, while Matthews has a mellower and almost soothing concert sound level. He also has a very limited stage with little lighting as compared to Oasis' dazzling effects that seem to pulse with the music. These flashing lights seem to activate the rowdy crowd found at the typical Oasis show. The model fan is ready to jump for two hours straight and they are the complete opposites of the usual Dave Matthews Band fan. While the Oasis fan hops, you notice they casually dress in plain pants and striped T–shirts. The Dave Matthews fan is uniformly dressed in Old Navy clothing and preppy khaki pants. • 24. Analysis Of All Along The Watchtower "All Along the Watchtower" is known as a classic rock song, but was originally crafted by Bob Dylan in 1967. Artists like Pearl Jam, U2, Dave Matthews Band and Eric Clapton have all covered this song, but notably the most famous version would be Jimi Hendrix' rendition. A year after the song's original release, Hendrix covered the unknown Bob Dylan song and propelled its legacy. Both songs draw different artistry and interpretations, but the concept is fundamentally the same. In the original Bob Dylan song, the general vibe was folk or even folk rock. The song form is simple verse, as the text of the song contains three verses. The tempo is generally slow, and steady throughout the entire song. Rhythm is kept throughout the song with the acoustic guitar. The beat is kept by backbeat drums, but are relatively subtle to the timbre of the song. The instrumentation of "All Along the Watchtower" includes acoustic guitar, drums and the use of the harmonica. The harmonica shines through two solos and the outro in the song (first solo 0:45–1:00, second solo 1:29–1:44, and outro 2:12–2:31). Bob Dylan's vocals are unrestrained throughout the song, differing in pitch. He elevates to higher and lower pitches to create a mysterious message in the lyrics. Lyrically, this song is debated as one of Dylan's most poetic titles, as no concrete conclusions have been made on what the song is actually about. The lyrical melody of the song also sells its folk repertoire to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When Matthews heard Carter was back in Virginia, he decided to approach him about making the demo tape. Matthews, Beauford, and Moore then approached Stefan Lessard, who at 16, was already an accomplished upright bass player The trio asked Stefan to play electric bass guitar for the newly forming band. Lessard was already a very well respected bass player in the Jazz circles of Virginia. He converted to the electric bass for the band. The bass is really the only non "acoustic" instrument in the band. Sometimes, though, Lessard uses the upright. Stefan considers revolutionary bass player Jaco Pastorius to be his greatest musical influence. While recording the demo one of the tunes seemed to need a supporting violin, the group then sought out Boyd Tinsely who was a classical violinist until 1985, when he switched over to rock and roll. Before joining Dave, Carter, Leroi, and Stefan, Boyd played with a few local outfits. He had his Boyd Tinsley Band, which he continued to play with until 93, and he played with Down Boy Down, an acoustic duo that played fraternity parties and college bars around Charlottesville. • 29. Christopher McCandless: Rebellious, Suicidal Narcissist Transcendentalism is a religious, philosophical, literary, and social movement of the nineteenth century. Essentially, this movement was based upon the ideals of the "sixth sense," nature, and non– conformity, as well as individualism, intuition, idealism, imagination, and inspiration. A few of the works featured in the transcendental unit include Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, Song of Myself by Walt Whitman, and Walden by Ralph Waldo Emerson. The primary focus of this essay is to provide an opinion on a strikingly debatable topic; Whether or not Christopher McCandless, hero of Krakauer's Into the Wild, was a true transcendentalist. Despite the bold actions of Chris McCandless on his daring Alaskan odyssey, he turned out to be far from a true transcendentalist, failing to meet the definition of transcendentalism, being solely concerned with himself, and acting out of revenge rather than seeking self discovery – nothing more than a childish suicidal rebel. To begin with, McCandless did not present the slightest interest in religion. An issue is created here due to the fact that religion was a large portion of the transcendental movement. Transcendentalists believed that there is a unity between nature and God; That one may discover God through immersing themselves in nature. They also held the belief that God is present in each individual; That humans as a whole form God because a fragment of Him is within each human being. Christopher McCandless did not share these beliefs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
