Robert Redford And Nolte
There is only one question that you need to ask yourself before deciding to see "A Walk in the
Woods": Can you justify sitting through an utterly predictable and rather tame man vs. nature ramble
in order to enjoy the affable odd–couple chemistry shared by Robert Redford and Nick Nolte?
Certainly, it is hard to resist a rare opportunity to observe these seasoned septuagenarians go at it
with gusto, especially considering that the only other time Redford and Nolte have been cast mates
was in the barely–seen 2013 political thriller "The Company You Keep." Nowadays, the handsomely
rough–hewn star of "North Dallas Forty" looks more like a ruddy–faced Yeti while the still–fit
Sundance Kid is paying the price for all that ultraviolet glare on the ski slopes. But these guys still
know how to not just hold our attention but grab it, even if their current film needs them more than
they need it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A reunion with his sparring partner in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and "The Sting,"
halted by Newman's death in 2008, would have been a must–see event. But the ever–volatile and
gravel–voiced Nolte and the perennially cool and smooth–talking Redford manage just fine as a
bracing pair of fellow

Business: Management and Entire Selection Process
"To Be Or Not To Be Promoted?" 2
Evaluate the entire selection process for the position. Judge whether mistakes were made and
discuss what could have been done differently.
When I start evaluating the entire selection process, I have to start with the assessment process. The
first thing that catches my attention is the fact that three of the four interviewers are men. As a
woman interviewing for a job, I would be a little intimated being questioned by three men and one
female. I would feel more comfortable being interviewed by a panel that was made up of two men
and two women. I also think that the interview panel should have been set up to objectively view the
candidate's best and worst qualities for the position. Also, during ... Show more content on

I would also tell them to show what they know about the position and convince the panel that they
are the best person in the job. One of the most important things is to be on time for your interview
and always dress for success. Be prepared and showcase your confidence. Even though this is an in
house interview, I would also encourage each one of the potential candidates to follow up after the
interview.
Once the offer was made, I would reassure each of them that they did a great job during the
interview and not to get discouraged because they were not chosen. I would advise them to offer
assistance to Joe as he transitions to his new role and offer him a helping hand. I would advise
against trying to find out why they are not selected for the position, due to the fact they do not want
to hinder being selected for any other positions that may come available in the near future.
Based on what you know about George Montgomery, assess his management style and describe
what bearing it may have had on his selection of Joe. Based on what I know about George
Montgomery, he kind of comes across as a prick. I see him as being this old guy who was
introduced in the business world when it was predominately dominated by men. I do not think that
he has any respect for women. I do not think that he feels like a woman deserves to be in a senior
management level position. Joe may

Jeremiah Johnson Essay examples
Jeremiah Johnson
In this movie, one may observe the different attitudes that Americans had towards Indians. The
Indians were those unconquered people to the west and the almighty brave, Mountain Man went
there, "forgetting all the troubles he knew," and away from civilization. The mountain man is going
in search of adventure but as this "adventure" starts he finds that his survival skills are not helping
him since he cant even fish and as he is seen by an Indian, who watches him at his attempt to fish,
he start respecting them. The view that civilization had given him of the west changes and so does
he. Civilization soon becomes just something that exists "down there." The movie starts by showing
the Indians as "bad" when Johnson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soon he learns from bear claw that there are different type of Indians some which you should never
even think of fighting and some that had never hurt a white man before. More than to be respectful
the mountain men submit to the Indians out of fear.
Johnson accommodates to the environment and learns to coexist with the Indians.
Jeremiah is "given" a wife forcefully and as much as he does not want it he soon realizes he has
everything he needs to just settle. Like in every good movie, just when you have all it is take away.
The real trouble with the tribes comes when white men intervene and intrude. The Indians expect
that these "Americans" respect their territory and whatever rituals and beliefs they may have but just
as Johnson was unaware of this when he first came so where the white men that came to save the
Christian families. Civilization never would approve or respect many of the things that Jeremiah had
learned to appreciate and even love. The view of all white men was best said by the bald guy when
he referred to the Flathead leader, "He may speak well and read the bible but he is still an injun."
The "Mountain Man" is very romanticized in the movie. The Actor that was chosen for the part for
example was Robert Redford the typical American hero, Blond, handsome, strong and able to
survive in the wild, what else can you ask for? What really does it is the song at the beginning of the

Essay on Analysis of Mending Wall by Robert Frost
Analysis of Mending Wall by Robert Frost
Robert Frost was inspired to write Mending Wall after talking with one of his farming friend
Napoleon Guay. He learned from talking with his neighbor that writing in the tones of real life is an
important factor in his poetic form (Liu,Tam). Henry David Thoreau once stated that, "A true
account of the actual is the purest poetry." Another factor that might have played a role in inspiring
Frost to write this poem was his experience of living on a farm as a small boy. Mending Wall was
published in 1915 along with a collection of Frost's poems in North of Boston. Theme Statements

Apples come and go with the seasons, but pines are forever and never out of season. Change
instinctively challenges and questions the ideals of tradition. In order to change, one must first break
tradition. But, in the poem the old man does not want to change and break tradition. The person who
is willing to question tradition and confront the problem is the young man. He uses those "w" words
to ask the question, "There where it is we do not need the wall," and "Why do they make good
neighbors...Where are the cows?" The youth is asking logical questions, but is rebutted with the
answer that, "Good fences make good neighbors". The youth challenges the old man to say what is
on his mind, but the old man is an, "old–stone savage armed," who, has no ideas of his own and,
"moves in the darkness," of the traditions he follows. Tone Narrative and explanations (lines 1–22)
In these lines, Frost is introducing the setting, characters, and the conflicts to the reader. We also get
an explanation about how, "Something there is that doesn't love a wall," and how the wall has been
damaged to the point where, "gaps even two can pass abreast." The reader is also introduced to the
attitudes of the characters, and how they feel towards the wall. The youth is curious and jolly in the
beginning, thinking it as a game. But, the old man is a complete opposite, he doesn't say much and

RMC employs a standard three–tier distribution system where the company sells to wholesalers who
in turn sell to retailers who sell to the public. The company finds its niche in the "premium" and
"ultra premium" segments of the table wine market (Burns et al., 2001).
In January 1999, Michael Mondavi, the CEO of the RMC and son of its founder, Robert Mondavi,
announced the reorganization of the company and the layoff of 4% of the workforce. RMC had
experienced a shortfall in supplying its Woodbridge Chardonnay brand. Unhappy distributors had
begun substituting competing Chardonnay brands on retailer's shelves. Yet, some distributors
remained reluctant to carry the brand even though Woodbridge production levels returned to normal
and further reducing company sales (Thompson & Strickland 2003).
During this period, the senior management was completing the process of reconfiguring RMC's
future strategies. However, there were two different views had aroused: (i) one group argued for a
return to the original vision, complaining that RMC had been so busy focusing on launching new
brands and pursuing international ventures that it had neglected its core domestic brands, which
made up 90% of revenues, and (ii) another group claimed for continued diversification through its
global partnerships in Chile and Italy and one domestic brand. Michael Mondavi was caught

Essay on A River Runs Through It
All lives revolve around decisions and instances from ones past. In A River Runs Through It (1992),
director Robert Redford uses this idea and applies it to a true story of two brothers from Montana,
Norman and Paul Maclean (Craig Sheffer and Brad Pitt, respectively). Based on the
autobiographical novel by Norman Maclean himself, River uses Maclean's metaphysical beliefs
about life and nature to present its many themes. Using a longing score, various film devices, and a
story line involving themes of youth, loss, and the pitfalls of pride, Robert Redford crafts a film
about the beauty of the past. The film starts with an elder Norman fishing in the "Big Blackfoot"
river. Written by Mark Isham (who won the Academy Award for his work on ... Show more content

This pattern of Norman accepting, and Paul pushing away, is recurrent throughout the film. Redford
stays in the boys' youths for a longer period of time than the average director. This is due to the
importance of youth within the film. Redford constantly reminds viewers of the boys' innocence and
purity by bathing them in light. In one of the first, and most widely known, scenes in the film the
two boys are fishing in the middle of the river. Redford films the shot at the end of the day, as the
sun is low in the sky, and the boys are backlit and silhouetted by the sun and its reflection off the
water. This shot gives the characters a pure and innocent aura, and helps the viewer subconsciously
connect with their youth. As Norman and Paul grow older, they remain very close. This is meant
figuratively and literally, as Redford's use of Mise–En–Scene helps to establish just how close the
relationship between the two is. There are dozens of shots within the film, where the boys (and later
men) are standing next to each other completely alone and at an extreme long shot, with the vast
Montana wilderness behind them. This technique of camera distance and character closeness gives
the film and the boys' relationship an "us against the world" feel, and also connects the boys
closeness directly to the setting in which they grew up. Another way Redford conveys the
importance of Montana and the river to the boys' lives is with voice over placed on panning

River Runs Through It Symbolism
The natural world has an unequivocal power to anything human to make one deeply contemplative,
introspective, and observant of the universe around them. Norman Maclean testifies to this power in
his novella, A River Runs Through It. Through his eulogy to the Blackfoot river, Norman Maclean
captures his journey from boy to man through his powerful connection to the Blackfoot River.
Robert Redford's movie adaptation, while maintaining the core importance of the Blackfoot river,
focuses on the interpersonal relationships Norman develops throughout his life, and how those shape
his character and choices. A River Runs through It encapsulates Norman's coming of age through
the symbolism and parallels he draws between himself and the river, whereas Robert Redford's
adaptation explores Norman's coming of age via his relationships with other people, with the river
as a secondary aspect.
Norman Maclean closes his novella with this powerful statement, "Eventually, all things merge into
one, and a river runs through it. . . under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I
am haunted by waters" (119). In this statement, "one" is the intangible conglomerate of Maclean's
life experiences, thoughts, and memories. Maclean also uses the river to symbolize his life. Thus, he
believes in the end, all his experiences and memories merge into one entity, with his life running
through them. He then connects that his life is built upon those before him because the river [his
life] flows over generations of rock under which are, "the words, and some of the words are theirs"
(119). The people who came before him in his life shaped the environment in which he would grow
up, in turn shaping him. Norman's life would have been very different had older generations for
example, commercialized the river, industrialized the town, or made a plethora of other potential
changes.
Finally, he is "haunted by waters" because they contain the memories and words of everyone
Norman has ever connected with. This demonstrates Norman's deep connection to the river, and how
the way he understands his life is through the river, and without it, cannot find the words to explain
how he has grown accept his life. For Maclean, the river was

Robert Frost's Home Burial
In "Home Burial," Robert Frost uses language and imagery to show how differently a man and a
women deal with grief. The poem not only describes the grief the two feel for the loss of their child
but also the impending death of a marriage. Frost shows this by using a dramatic style set in New
England. In his narrative poem, Frost starts a tense conversation between the man and the wife
whose first child had died recently. Not only is there dissonance between the couple, but also a major
communication conflict between the husband and the wife. As the poem opens, the wife is standing
at the top of a staircase looking at her child's grave through the window. Her husband is at the
bottom of the stairs ("He saw her from the bottom of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Looking back over her shoulder at some fear.

Even though the wife may feel that her husband does not understand her grief, he does try to reach
out to her. He implores her, "Help me, then" (l.46). He knows that he has a difficult time
communicating with her and observes:
My words are nearly always an offence. I don't know how to speak of anything. So as to please you.
But I might be taught. I should suppose. I can't say I see how. A man must partly give up being a
man. With women folk. (l.48–53) The husband acknowledges that she is grieving and asks her, "Let

a way that his wife pushes him away again. She throws the accusation at him, "There you go

whether the husband can grieve for the child, in the way that he is allowed without society looking
down on him? The husband wants the world to know that he is hurting too, but how can he do this?
The husband was never taught to grieve, so he is in the process of learning how to do this. The wife

Analysis Of ' The Unforgiven I '
Metallica is a heavy metal band that began in 1981. While the last song released by the band was in
2008, the group is still widely popular. Perhaps the most popular songs are the "The Unforgiven"
trilogy. "The Unforgiven I" is one of Metallica's most popular singles, behind Enter Sandman which
is on the same album. Metallica's lead singer James Hetfield wrote the three songs about his life
experiences, which is different from most of Metallica's work. The majority of Metallica's hits
promote individuality and non–conformism (Nys 41). This trilogy of songs however is a story of
heartbreak. They tell an overwhelmingly emotional story of resentment towards those who tried to
control him (Irwin 7). James wrote these songs to pour out his emotions and express how he felt.
Hetfield was born into a deeply religious family. His mother was a Christian, and she believed
heavily that if one is meant to be healed, God will heal that person ("Ten things You May Not Know
about James Hetfield"). As a result of this belief, when she was diagnosed with cancer, she did not
seek medical help. She waited for God to heal her. Unfortunately, after waiting for God to heal her,
she did not beat cancer and she died. This event fueled "The Unforgiven" trilogy and led to another
work, "The God that Failed." "The Unforgiven I" speaks about James's parents and how he felt
during his childhood. "The Unforgiven II" speaks about love and betrayal. "The Unforgiven III"
speaks about forgiveness and

The Symbols Of Resistance In The Milagro Bean Field War
Thomas Jefferson, one of the founding fathers of America once said: "When injustice becomes law,
resistance becomes a duty". This duty not only rests on the shoulders of the leaders of a community,
but it also rests on the shoulders of the community as a whole. Resistance, in fact, had always
happened in the past when a community is dissatisfied with a particular party. Therefore, based on
the Milagro Bean Field War film directed by Robert Redford with reference to the novel of the same
title by John Nicols, resistance in the context of the community of Milago may be interpreted as to
taunt the enemy, to protect their own people and to protest for their rights. Resistance illustrates
people taunting the enemy. In this story, the enemy is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When injustice threatens the people of Milagro, they stand together and fight for the victim of
injustice. For example, Kyril Montana, a scheming detective accused Joe of attempted murder of
Amarante Cordova and unlawful flight from persecution and tried to arrest Joe during a bean
harvesting party held at Joe's bean field. During this arrest, the community of Milagro did not just
stand by and watch, instead, they went to their vehicles to take their guns and armed them. Ruby
also stood defiantly in front of Montana that was grabbing Joe by the arm to block him from
proceeding with the arrest. Tensions were escalating up to the point where they were about to open

unless he (Montana) has a warrant to arrest Joe for taking water, he's outside his jurisdiction!" Just
then, a police officer called out to Montana saying that there was a call from the Governor from

Analysis Of Robert Frost 's ' Birches '
The most misinterpreted element in Robert Frost poetry is his use of nature in a symbolic way. Frost
is not describing the inner workings of nature as we see it all around us, but about exploring human
psychology. For example, Frost uses Homely farmers, rural scenes, landscapes, and the natural
world to epitomize a psychological struggle with an everyday experience that is often met with
courage, will, and purpose; contextually, using Frost's own life and personal psychology. Frost's
attitude in his poetry is honest, accepting, and stoical, nature is just used as a background. Frost
usually begins his poems by delineate an observation of something in nature, then moves on toward
a connection with some human concern or situation. He uses the natural world as symbolism in his
poetry then suggests bigger, deeper, more complex ideas. In Robert Frost's poetry he is not purely
writing about nature, rather he is using nature as a tool to compose ideas relating to human nature.
In Robert Frost's poem "Birches" he uses nature as imagery to convey his disdain for the pressures
of social life. Frost does not specify which social burden he is referring too, but we can piece
together parts of this poem and derive at his true meaning. The language Frost uses in "Birches" tell
us there is a burden such as, ... "Often you must have seen them...Loaded with ice... Such heaps of
broken glass to sweep away... They are dragged to the withered bracken by the load, ...though once
they are bowed... So

Conservation Warden Robin Barnhardt started out the class by explaining the hiring process. In the

Moreover, once a candidate submits their application, an assigned background investigator will
spend 80 hours in investigating about the candidate from top to bottom based on who, what where,
when, how, and why. The process for a background investigation is extremely long and takes several
months to complete. Anything that the investigator finds incorrect with the candidate or strange will
noted as a "red flag" and will be further investigated. Additionally to "red flag" some of the common
problems that investigator finds out are things that the candidate participated in that they didn't put
on the application. Typically the candidate will continue to act as if nothing happened to fake their
way through the hiring process. Another common problem is that candidates will say things such as
"oh...I forgot about it" for their answers when an investigator asks them about a gap in between their
employment. Making up excuses and saying that "oh... I forgot about it" will most likely cause the
applicant to be turned down. Likewise, during the 80 hours of investigation, the background
investigator will be making contact with anyone who is related or has some sort of a relationship to
the applicant such as roommate, landlords, friends and etc. One important tool that investigator use
to find out the personality/behavior of the applicant is their social media profiles. Social media a

Analysis Of Truman Capote 's ' Cold Blood '
To judge is to irreparably arbitrate; the judged seldom find recourse if an error lies in the judge's
logic. In criminal proceedings, the courts judge alleged criminals and deliver verdicts. A frequently
encountered issue is determining guilt. Critics of the de facto court system cite moral culpability as
an ideal that the courts fail to attain. Priding its moral superiority, the United States surprisingly
lacks some of the basic rights to justice afforded to others elsewhere. America purports to have a
duty to serve justice, yet the justice system provides little leeway to those whose crimes are not their
fault. This notion of unfulfilled justice appears in In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. When Dick and
Perry commit murder, the circumstances are such that Perry cannot be entirely accountable for the
actions he took. Perry bears no responsibility for the crimes he committed; storied psychological
illnesses and pitfalls compromised his sense of right and wrong, rendering him incapable of
intervening in his planned crime with Dick.
Perry never enjoyed to a hospitable, supportive family environment. Tragedy filled his early years,
spoiling his innocent view of the world too early. Evidence of this broken family life is most evident
in the commentary of Perry's sister. When asked about Perry, Perry's sister states that "She had said
she was afraid of Perry, and she was, but was it simply Perry she feared [and]...the terrible destinies
that seemed promised the four children of

New Economic Imperialism
Those in power define national interests as the preservation of the existing set of economic, social,
and political relationships. Therefore, the national interest of the supranational capitalist society is
the interests of the upper class, allied throughout the globe. The United States capitalist class has
proposed to preserve and extend U.S. capitalism by a policy of empire building to satisfy the need
for large export markets that could supply cheap inputs and guarantee consumption.
The road to the current economic imperial structure prevalent in international affairs is a long and
complicated one. During the twentieth century the capitalist elite began forming organizations in ...

Distinction Between State and Government
Introduction
The state and government are distinguished in terms of functions, structures, duties, composition
and the nature of their powers. The state is permanent, whilst government changes, altered or
modified and even overthrown. The state employs bureaucrats who employed based on merit and
who are politically neutral to conduct its business whilst government consists of elected officials
who represent partisan sympathies. The state is more extensive than the government. The state is
characterized by state institutions, exercise of legitimacy, territorial association and sovereignty
whilst government is composed of three arms namely legislature, executive and judiciary. However
the state and government are interrelated as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand the government has power to make laws for the state even without the consent of
the people thus it has absolute and final legal authority over all matters and is not subject to any
power outside itself according to Khan and mc Niven (1999:29). For example laws such as Public
order Security Act (POSA) enforced by the government without seeking the consent of the people.
Therefore, state and government are different in terms of the nature of their powers as each has its
own specific powers different from the other.
Nevertheless, state and government are differentiated as the state is characterized by sovereignty,
state institutions, legitimacy and territorial association whilst government is characterized by the
three arms namely legislature, executive and judiciary respectively. According to Heywood
(2000:39), contends through sovereignty the state exercises absolute and unrestricted power in that it
stands above all other associations and groups in society. Hobbes for this reason portrayed the state
as a "Leviathian" a gigantic monster. State institutions are recognizably "public" in contrast to the
private institutions of civil society. The state bodies are responsible for making and enforcing
collective decisions in society and are funded ate the public expense. For example in Zimbabwe the
police, army and courts are funded by the state for them to function fully. Due to legitimacy state
decisions are usually accepted as binding on the

William Shakespeare 's Othello, Much Ado About Nothing,...
Power is said to be the ability of another to be able to control or influence others in a given situation.
Power is also a reoccurring theme that is without a doubt well displayed in Othello, Much Ado
About Nothing, "Porphyria's Lover," "Eveline," and "My Last Duchess." In drama Othello, by
Shakespeare, the title character suspects his wife Desdemona has been unfaithful with no proof and
just the assumption of a friend. He publicly confronts Desdemona by hitting her and calling her a
whore. Othello is in possession of power here because he publicly shows what he is capable of; he is
not afraid to hit a woman. In short story "Eveline," by James Joyce, Eveline and her younger

In the play Much Ado About Nothing, by Shakespeare, Claudio has false knowledge when it comes
to his fiance, Hero, being unfaithful, and proceeds to publicly confront her in front of their friends
and family. In a later scene, Hero's cousin Beatrice suggests to Claudio's friend Benedick that he
should kill Claudio because of his false accusations toward Hero. Beatrice has power because she is
able to take advantage of Benedick's feeling for her and convince him to kill Claudio. These texts all
include the similarity of abusive power. Irrational decisions and behaviors, such as murder and
sanity, are often times the effect of abusive power.
The drama Othello, by Shakespeare, and the short story "Eveline," by James Joyce, both exemplify
similar forms of power. During the course of the theatrical piece Othello, the protagonist is led on by
Iago to believe his wife to be unfaithful. Whether Desdemona truly was dishonest is left ambiguous
by the end. "DESDEMONA: Why, sweet Othello– OTHELLO: (striking her) Devil!
DESDEMONA: I have not deserved this... OTHELLO: Oh, devil, devil! If that the earth could teem
with woman's tears, Each drop she falls would prove a crocodile. Out of my sight!" (Shakespeare).

Essay on The Mind of a Serial Killer
As police walk into an abandoned house, a foul stench overtakes them. The room is dim and looks
as though no one has been here for months. They walk further into the house and begin to see spots
of blood on the floor. They follow this trail down the stairs into the basement where the smell
becomes overwhelming, causing some of the officers to gasp and run back up the stairs. In the
basement, they find the remains of several young boys who have been molested and badly

The second key characteristic of most serial killers is an overwhelming need for control. Women and
children are often targeted because they are seen as weak and easily dominated figures. Killers will
tie their victims up with ropes or chains and watch them helplessly struggle to free themselves. They
may also torture them and watch as their pleas for freedom fall upon deaf ears. Many killers are
demented and exhibit signs of future violence at a very early age. Society often turns to the
upbringing of the killer for answers. Many killers speak of their childhoods being full of sexual
abuse, torture, and mayhem (Scott). In his book Serial Killers, Joel Norris speaks of violence as
something that cycles from generation to generation: "Parents who abuse their children, physically
as well as psychologically, instill in them an almost instinctive reliance upon violence as a first
resort to any challenge. Childhood abuse not only spawns violent reactions, but also affects the
child's health, including brain injuries, malnutrition, and other developmental disorders" (49 – 50).
Violence early in life may lead to these undesirable tendencies to abuse and kill. Parents often
believe that strict discipline will help the individual grow up to be strong, but it, in turn, creates a
gap between the child and the parents. The child does not feel loved or wanted. This may

Clara Schumann : A Modern Artist Named Carly Simon

Clara Schumann A modern artist named Carly Simon once said "A really strong woman accepts the
war she went through and is ennobled by her scars" (Brainyguote, 1). This is a great description of
the strong and talented Clara Schumann. Her story is full of achievements, love and tragedy and
throughout all of it she carries herself with poise and strength that really is not seen much in the
present generations. Although Clara Schumann accepted her war and came out proud and confident
in herself and her success. This talented composer was born in Leipzig on September 13, 1819 to her
parents Friedrich and Marianne Wieck. Her mother was a very talented singer and pianist and her
father, though he studied Theology in school, was also a great pianist and musical teacher. Friedrich
was a very prideful man. He pushed his wife and daughter to succeed with the zealous attempt to
receive musically inclined high stature from their work and to gain more attention towards his
teaching abilities. This Dangerous desire for fame and recognition soon led to Marianne's
resentment towards him and progressed to a divorce when Clara was only five years old (Mitchell,
1). With Clara left to be raised by her father she was introduced to music rather early on. Friedrich,
still striving for more recognition, made sure that Clara became well educated in the musical field.
However, he neglected the other lessons in life like proper English and

My Last Duchess and Porphyria’s Lover by Robert Browning...
My Last Duchess and Porphyria's Lover by Robert Browning
In the two poems there is a lot of 'dramatic monologue' where the writer is showing his personal his
personal feelings in the poem. It is also classified when a single person is talking and asking
questions with no reply like in 'The Last Duchess' the Duke is talking to the servant about his past
wife but all the servant is interested in is whether the Duke will marry the Count's daughter.
My Last Duchess is about a duke who wants to marry the Count's daughter. The Count does not
know the duke very much this is why he sends his servant round to visit the Duke and his property.
When the poem starts the servant is already at the Duke's house.

Porphyria's Lover is about an anonymous guy who is having an affair with Porphyria.
Porphyria's anonymous lover is very annoyed that Porphyria does not declare her love for him and
leave her partner for him, but as the stormy night grew Porphyria started to admit her love for him.
Porphyria's lover said 'Happy and proud, at last I knew Porphyria worshipped me, at this moment
she is mine no one can stop that now'
Porphyria's lover is debating what to do to keep this moment special.
Porphyria's lover now knows what to do he says 'Perfectly pure and good, I found a thing to do, and
all her hair in one long yellow string wound three times her little throat around, and strangled her' he
is saying that he killed her. Porphyria's lover ends the poem by saying 'And yet God has not said a
word' he thinks he's done no wrong at all.
Porphyria's lover thinks he has done no wrong because God has said nothing and he wanted to sabre
the moment, but he has just strangled his true love. He is obviously a possessive pig who just thinks
about himself all the time.

By acquiring DreamWorks the main advantage that the company will be able to derive is the fact
that this will help the company in consolidating the market position of the company. Another
important factor that will probably be a guiding light for the acquisition is the fact that recently the
company has not fared well in the box office. This will result in the fact that Pixar will have to pay
lesser price while trying to acquire the company. However the company has traditionally challenged
Disney at the box office by offering the films that tell stories with a bit more subversion and humor
as compared to Disney. The company DreamWorks has also acquired a loyal following in the
countries like Russia, Korea, China and Brazil unlike any other studios (Shaw, 2013). Thus if Pixar
is able to successfully acquire Dream works then it will able to command a significant portion of the
foreign market. As the world of animation is no longer a monopoly the companies have to all the
time strive to be better and to consolidate their position in the market. The acquisition of
DreamWorks will provide that perfect opportunity for Pixar.
Walt Disney is a multinational company having its presence across several countries in the world.

The poems, 'My Last Duchess', 'La Belle Dame Sans Merci' and 'When We Two Parted' and

But, what people in such relationships fail to realise until it is too late is the downside to this sort of
relationship, not only for the 'dominated', but also for the 'dominating', as such an obsession with
ruling over another eventually led the Duke to murder his wife. Though most people would not have
taken as drastic a measure as the Duke, the poet probably uses such a negatively powerful result to
emphasize on the harmful aspects of such a relationship. Also, this poem follows a strict rhyme
scheme and has a conversational rhythm. It is written in iambic pentameter, which probably conveys
the conflict within himself between what he says and what he really is – a murderer! Furthermore,
this sort of communion does not hold many positive aspects for the partner who lets himself/herself
be controlled by the other either. In 'La Belle Dame Sans Merci', the knight says, "And that is why I
sojourn here/Alone and palely loitering/Though the sedge has wither'd from the lake/And no birds
sing", the sad condition of the knight here emphasizes on the downbeat to this type of love and the
sad, lonely image (from winter) is used to create a greater impact on the reader.

Persuasive Essay On Political Advertising
Political ads can be viewed as annoying, excessive, biased, and unnecessary. This opinion is shared
among many people within America with many wanting all ads to stop entirely. Now, are these ads
truly needed or are they just to make a candidate look good? Certain strategies used in political
campaigns can be confusing and frustrating. However, they can also help bring people together to
discuss their opinions and beliefs in order to decide who to support. Political ads can encourage
people to come together because of a common cause, improving our nation, and who is the best
candidate for President. Political signs and commercials are one tactic that can be misleading. Many
people feel that candidates use bandwagons and endorsements to help them look good and promise
immediate changes which are either not possible or can take a long time to achieve. This is like with
Mondale Ferraro, who made many different types of images to make him look more popular
(Document A). However, these images also help people decide who would be better for the job
based off of looks, beliefs, and other attributes. I would use these to help make myself stand out
from the other candidates by putting in true aspects into my campaign so they do not put false hope
into what I stand for. This also helps decide what issues the public focuses on the most based on
their beliefs. The candidates running for President try to get rid of the issues the public are
concerned about to encourage the public to vote for them. Bandwagons use well known and
respected groups of people to influence the public to vote for a candidate because they are doing it.
This can be done with several methods, like endorsement, glittering generalities, and even using a
spoil system to intrigue people into electing them. This is like the Reagan TV ad where he tried to
improve his image with the actions he had promised, which spread with the public (Document B). In
addition, it helps clarify what people want most out of a candidate for their benefit, as well as their
own benefits. I would use bandwagons, because it helps get other people's attention and make
myself popular to others. But these methods can help a candidate who already has a lot of public
support. This

The Conspirator, Directed by Robert Redford
Movie Study
Summary:
"The Conspirator"directed by Robert Redford is a new historical drama. The basic ethical and
political problems are the murder of the president and the simultaneous coordinated attempts on the
lives of Vice President Andrew Johnson and Secretary of State William H. Seward which throw
Washington into panic. After John Wilkes Booth is killed in a shootout with soldiers, his fellow
plotters are arrested and tried, not by a jury of their peers but by a committee of officers.
Among those on trial is Mary Surratt, a widow whose boarding house was a meeting place for the
conspirators and whose son John appears to have been one of the conspirators. On trial for her life,
Mary is defended by Frederick Aiken, a decommissioned captain in the Union Army.
Aiken is initially reluctant to be the advocate of a suspected traitor, but he is deceived into taking the
assignment by Reverdy Johnson , a powerful Democratic senator from Maryland. And as he
becomes inform with Mary and her daughter Anna, Aiken becomes passionately dedicated to
proving Mary's innocence, or at least saving her life.He finds, though, that the deck is accumulated,
and the audience may feel the same way, in purpose of the movie's show of fidelity to the historical
record.
The chief prosecutor, Joseph Holt, is played by Danny Huston, whose silken baritone and crooked
smile are so immediately indicative of duplicity that the filmmakers might as well have cast a

Compare how Robert Frost and Wilfred Owen communicate the theme of loss in 'Out, Out–' and
"Disabled".
In the two poems "Out, Out–" and "Disabled", a similar theme of loss is portrayed. Both of these
poems deal with the subject of physical loss, as both protagonists of these poems experience
accidental amputation. Both Robert Frost and Wilfred Owen manage to captivate their audience's
attention, and also a certain degree of sympathy for the protagonists' misfortune. They do this
successfully, with the use of common literary techniques and linguistic skills, such as simile,
metaphor, personification, contrast, and many more literary devices, which range from obvious to
very subtle.

Within such a short sentence, the boy's life was simply gone. This use of tripling is very effective, as
it may symbolise a heartbeat, slowly beating away, to its fate. The dashes further enhance this, as
they make the reader pause in the gaps between the words, making the "heartbeats" seem further and
further apart, and eventually dying away. Another quote which gives the reader a sense of loss is the
final stanza of the poem: "And they, since they were not the ones dead, turned to their affairs", in
line 33–34. This quote, to put into simpler words, means that the people who were working with this
young boy (who happen to be his family), had better things to do than to care for the death of this
young boy, and simply turned away, and got back to work. This action seems alarmingly heartless,
but nevertheless, Frost very successfully makes the jreaders feel a huge sense of loss. This line once
again shows how meaningless and vulnerable life is.
Written in the 1910s by Wilfred Owen, "Disabled" is a poem describing the experience of a young
soldier losing his limbs after fighting in World War I. He later gets discriminated against, and feels
isolated and regretful of his naïve reason to go to war. As opposed to "Out, Out–", "Disabled" does
not have an ambiguous title at all. The word "disabled" is

context, they both reflect the world of the text and composer.

She continues to list her idealized love in Sonnets 43 and 14, stating that love should be pure as men
"turn from praise", a love which people endure because it is right and correct. She again through
imagery demands the purity of genuine love that can grow through time and endure "on, through
loves eternity". This clearly explores the idea of aspirations, hope and idealism within the sonnet
sequence.
The Sonnet sequence also involves the idea of identity with Barrett Browning coming to terms with
her emerging sexuality and realisation of love. The sequence was written by Barrett Browning thus
providing a personal voice to the sonnets allowing a portrayal of the sequence of events of her
personal identity and expression of love. Throughout the sonnet sequence Browning develops a
stronger sense and realisation of her love for Robert, hence shaping her identity. By sonnet 43 a
series of elements introduced by the simple phrase "I love thee" where the repetition intensifies the
affirmation, she declares that her love is free and pure and possesses passion. Most importantly
Browning now holds a sense of identity as she has achieved her idealized type of love.
'The Great Gatsby' was written in the early 20th Century during the period known as the 'Roaring
Twenties' or 'the Jazz age'. It was a time where money was

Attitudes Between Men And Women
In the election held in 2013, only two WC made it to the parliament, although women made up more
than 53% of the electorate. These two candidates received the highest number of tweets about the
WC before the election.
RQ1: Attitudes according to gender
While the negative tweets outnumbered the positive ones (31% negative versus 21% positive), the
women tweeters expressed significantly more positive attitudes towards WC than the men tweeters
did (X2 = .21, p = 0.01). Women contributed 385 tweets (38% positive, 36% neutral, and 26%
negative), while men contributed 797 tweets (20% positive, 38% neutral, and 42% negative). The
remainder of the relevant tweets were generated by news sites.
The components of the positive attitudes expressed did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second dominant theme, however, did represent an objective, candidate–based acceptance, in
which a tweeter was favorable towards a candidate because of her personal traits and political skills.
The most prevalent subtheme under this theme was the moral traits of the WC, such as being
"modest," "patriotic," and/or "religious." Other tweeters favored WC because of their knowledge
and sagacity. Women tweeters were more interested in showing a positive attitude toward a
candidate because of her looks.
The third positive theme spoke to the political skills of WC as they were evidenced in a previous
parliamentary term or as they were expected to show up after they win election. Satisfaction with
past political performance was a major subtheme of this positive theme. Praise of the
communication skills of these candidates represents another major subtheme. Tweeters, especially
women, placed a special emphasis on the communication skills of the candidates, praising them for
their "eloquence," "sophistication as speakers," and "cogent logic while talking to the media." They
described the speaking style of one WC as "making the liver of the listener cooler" (a Kuwaiti
colloquial expression connoting a good mood and a positive reaction).
The fourth positive theme was gender–based, in which tweeters expressed a positive

Robert Redford And Nolte Pros And Cons
Honestly, it's incessantly difficult to describe either Robert Redford or Nick Nolte as elderly – given
the fact that many of us grew up watching these Hollywood giants on the big screen. Since the
1960s and 70s, both Redford and Nolte have amassed a impressive catalog of respective roles that
we frankly don't have enough time in the day to fully explore. Still, films like 48 Hours (Nolte) and
The Natural (Redford) will never get old – and will withstand the test of time. In any event, aging is
inevitable, and plenty of once dominant actors refuse to give up the spotlight, along with doing what
they love – which has prompted the release of a plethora of old–timer centered films over the years,
ranging from Grumpy Old Men and Space Cowboys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much of it doesn't necessarily appear as easy feats, either – what with the Appalacian Train being a
brutal grind that only a minuscule number of hikers fully conquer. Plus, it's full of danger, too –
conveyed on several occasion in which the duo must face harsh weather conditions, unstable
environments, and inquisitive bears. As one might expect, such insufferable conditions open the
door to plenty of sarcastic deflections. Nolte's character, in particular, is full of charming, comical
quips that will provide lots of laughter and light–hearted moments – the most memorable of which
revolves around his interaction with a plus–sized woman at the laundromat. The interaction between
the characters is far from noteworthy, although the aftermath and paranoia that envelops Katz is
likely to illicit plenty of laugh–out–loud moments. Outside the near–endless amount of comedic
occurrences, which is comparable to what would happen if Grumpy Old Men met Wild, the story
itself tends to faulted due to a lack of purpose and extreme transparent. The main reason behind the
adventure is mostly unclear, even though it would appear Bill is attempting to create new memories
that he can translate into a new

French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman
"Europe will not be made all at once, or according to a single plan. It will be built through concrete
achievements which... create a de facto solidarity."
Schuman plan was a proposal by French foreign minister Robert Schuman on May 9, 1950. It was
for the single authority to be able to control the production of steel and coal in France and West
Germany. The plain laid foundations for the 1958 establishment of the European Economic
Community after the proposal were realized in the European Coal and Steel Community. The

Based on the Schuman plan, six countries sign a treaty to run their heavy businesses which are coal

Belgium and Luxembourg. The European Union is a union of 28 members stated that are located in
Europe. It operates through a system of institutions by the member states. 'The institutions are: the
European Commission, the Council of the European Union, the European Council, the Court of
Justice of the European Union, the European Central Bank, the Court of Auditors, and the European
Parliament. The European Parliament is elected every five years by EU citizens.'
The Maastricht Treaty, which is formally known as the treaty on European Union represented a
major step towards European economic, political and social integration. The main condition of the
treaty was the immediate creation of the European Union and by the late 1990s the establishment of
the Economic and Monetary Union. The Maastricht Treaty is a part of an evolutionary economic

Robert Redford And Nolte

  • 1. Robert Redford And Nolte There is only one question that you need to ask yourself before deciding to see "A Walk in the Woods": Can you justify sitting through an utterly predictable and rather tame man vs. nature ramble in order to enjoy the affable odd–couple chemistry shared by Robert Redford and Nick Nolte? Certainly, it is hard to resist a rare opportunity to observe these seasoned septuagenarians go at it with gusto, especially considering that the only other time Redford and Nolte have been cast mates was in the barely–seen 2013 political thriller "The Company You Keep." Nowadays, the handsomely rough–hewn star of "North Dallas Forty" looks more like a ruddy–faced Yeti while the still–fit Sundance Kid is paying the price for all that ultraviolet glare on the ski slopes. But these guys still know how to not just hold our attention but grab it, even if their current film needs them more than they need it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Judge whether mistakes were made and discuss what could have been done differently. When I start evaluating the entire selection process, I have to start with the assessment process. The first thing that catches my attention is the fact that three of the four interviewers are men. As a woman interviewing for a job, I would be a little intimated being questioned by three men and one female. I would feel more comfortable being interviewed by a panel that was made up of two men and two women. I also think that the interview panel should have been set up to objectively view the candidate's best and worst qualities for the position. Also, during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would also tell them to show what they know about the position and convince the panel that they are the best person in the job. One of the most important things is to be on time for your interview and always dress for success. Be prepared and showcase your confidence. Even though this is an in house interview, I would also encourage each one of the potential candidates to follow up after the interview. Once the offer was made, I would reassure each of them that they did a great job during the interview and not to get discouraged because they were not chosen. I would advise them to offer assistance to Joe as he transitions to his new role and offer him a helping hand. I would advise against trying to find out why they are not selected for the position, due to the fact they do not want to hinder being selected for any other positions that may come available in the near future. Based on what you know about George Montgomery, assess his management style and describe what bearing it may have had on his selection of Joe. Based on what I know about George Montgomery, he kind of comes across as a prick. I see him as being this old guy who was introduced in the business world when it was predominately dominated by men. I do not think that he has any respect for women. I do not think that he feels like a woman deserves to be in a senior management level position. Joe may "To Be Or Not To Be Promoted?" 5 be a lot ... • 7. Jeremiah Johnson Essay examples Jeremiah Johnson In this movie, one may observe the different attitudes that Americans had towards Indians. The Indians were those unconquered people to the west and the almighty brave, Mountain Man went there, "forgetting all the troubles he knew," and away from civilization. The mountain man is going in search of adventure but as this "adventure" starts he finds that his survival skills are not helping him since he cant even fish and as he is seen by an Indian, who watches him at his attempt to fish, he start respecting them. The view that civilization had given him of the west changes and so does he. Civilization soon becomes just something that exists "down there." More than to be respectful the mountain men submit to the Indians out of fear. Johnson accommodates to the environment and learns to coexist with the Indians. Jeremiah is "given" a wife forcefully and as much as he does not want it he soon realizes he has everything he needs to just settle. Like in every good movie, just when you have all it is take away. The real trouble with the tribes comes when white men intervene and intrude. The Indians expect that these "Americans" respect their territory and whatever rituals and beliefs they may have but just as Johnson was unaware of this when he first came so where the white men that came to save the Christian families. Civilization never would approve or respect many of the things that Jeremiah had learned to appreciate and even love. The view of all white men was best said by the bald guy when he referred to the Flathead leader, "He may speak well and read the bible but he is still an injun." The "Mountain Man" is very romanticized in the movie. Essay on Analysis of Mending Wall by Robert Frost Analysis of Mending Wall by Robert Frost Robert Frost was inspired to write Mending Wall after talking with one of his farming friend Napoleon Guay. He learned from talking with his neighbor that writing in the tones of real life is an important factor in his poetic form (Liu,Tam). Henry David Thoreau once stated that, "A true account of the actual is the purest poetry." Another factor that might have played a role in inspiring Frost to write this poem was his experience of living on a farm as a small boy. Mending Wall was published in 1915 along with a collection of Frost's poems in North of Boston. Theme Statements Nature dissolves the barriers that humanity erects. Change instinctively challenges and questions the ideals of tradition. In order to change, one must first break tradition. But, in the poem the old man does not want to change and break tradition. The person who is willing to question tradition and confront the problem is the young man. He uses those "w" words to ask the question, "There where it is we do not need the wall," and "Why do they make good neighbors...Where are the cows?" The youth is asking logical questions, but is rebutted with the answer that, "Good fences make good neighbors". The youth challenges the old man to say what is on his mind, but the old man is an, "old–stone savage armed," who, has no ideas of his own and, "moves in the darkness," of the traditions he follows. Tone Narrative and explanations (lines 1–22) In these lines, Frost is introducing the setting, characters, and the conflicts to the reader. We also get an explanation about how, "Something there is that doesn't love a wall," and how the wall has been damaged to the point where, "gaps even two can pass abreast." The reader is also introduced to the attitudes of the characters, and how they feel towards the wall. The youth is curious and jolly in the beginning, thinking it as a game. • 16. Essay on A River Runs Through It All lives revolve around decisions and instances from ones past. In A River Runs Through It (1992), director Robert Redford uses this idea and applies it to a true story of two brothers from Montana, Norman and Paul Maclean (Craig Sheffer and Brad Pitt, respectively). Based on the autobiographical novel by Norman Maclean himself, River uses Maclean's metaphysical beliefs about life and nature to present its many themes. Using a longing score, various film devices, and a story line involving themes of youth, loss, and the pitfalls of pride, Robert Redford crafts a film about the beauty of the past. The film starts with an elder Norman fishing in the "Big Blackfoot" river. Written by Mark Isham (who won the Academy Award for his work on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This pattern of Norman accepting, and Paul pushing away, is recurrent throughout the film. Redford stays in the boys' youths for a longer period of time than the average director. This is due to the importance of youth within the film. Redford constantly reminds viewers of the boys' innocence and purity by bathing them in light. In one of the first, and most widely known, scenes in the film the two boys are fishing in the middle of the river. Redford films the shot at the end of the day, as the sun is low in the sky, and the boys are backlit and silhouetted by the sun and its reflection off the water. This shot gives the characters a pure and innocent aura, and helps the viewer subconsciously connect with their youth. As Norman and Paul grow older, they remain very close. This is meant figuratively and literally, as Redford's use of Mise–En–Scene helps to establish just how close the relationship between the two is. There are dozens of shots within the film, where the boys (and later men) are standing next to each other completely alone and at an extreme long shot, with the vast Montana wilderness behind them. This technique of camera distance and character closeness gives the film and the boys' relationship an "us against the world" feel, and also connects the boys closeness directly to the setting in which they grew up. Another way Redford conveys the importance of Montana and the river to the boys' lives is with voice over placed on panning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. River Runs Through It Symbolism The natural world has an unequivocal power to anything human to make one deeply contemplative, introspective, and observant of the universe around them. Norman Maclean testifies to this power in his novella, A River Runs Through It. Through his eulogy to the Blackfoot river, Norman Maclean captures his journey from boy to man through his powerful connection to the Blackfoot River. Robert Redford's movie adaptation, while maintaining the core importance of the Blackfoot river, focuses on the interpersonal relationships Norman develops throughout his life, and how those shape his character and choices. A River Runs through It encapsulates Norman's coming of age through the symbolism and parallels he draws between himself and the river, whereas Robert Redford's adaptation explores Norman's coming of age via his relationships with other people, with the river as a secondary aspect. Norman Maclean closes his novella with this powerful statement, "Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. . . under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters" (119). In this statement, "one" is the intangible conglomerate of Maclean's life experiences, thoughts, and memories. Maclean also uses the river to symbolize his life. Thus, he believes in the end, all his experiences and memories merge into one entity, with his life running through them. He then connects that his life is built upon those before him because the river [his life] flows over generations of rock under which are, "the words, and some of the words are theirs" (119). The people who came before him in his life shaped the environment in which he would grow up, in turn shaping him. Norman's life would have been very different had older generations for example, commercialized the river, industrialized the town, or made a plethora of other potential changes. Finally, he is "haunted by waters" because they contain the memories and words of everyone Norman has ever connected with. This demonstrates Norman's deep connection to the river, and how the way he understands his life is through the river, and without it, cannot find the words to explain how he has grown accept his life. • 27. Robert Frost's Home Burial In "Home Burial," Robert Frost uses language and imagery to show how differently a man and a women deal with grief. The poem not only describes the grief the two feel for the loss of their child but also the impending death of a marriage. Frost shows this by using a dramatic style set in New England. In his narrative poem, Frost starts a tense conversation between the man and the wife whose first child had died recently. Not only is there dissonance between the couple, but also a major communication conflict between the husband and the wife. As the poem opens, the wife is standing at the top of a staircase looking at her child's grave through the window. Her husband is at the bottom of the stairs ("He saw her from the bottom of the ... (l. 3–9) Even though the wife may feel that her husband does not understand her grief, he does try to reach out to her. He implores her, "Help me, then" (l.46). He knows that he has a difficult time communicating with her and observes: My words are nearly always an offence. I don't know how to speak of anything. So as to please you. But I might be taught. I should suppose. I can't say I see how. A man must partly give up being a man. With women folk. (l.48–53) The husband acknowledges that she is grieving and asks her, "Let me into your grief" (l.62). He pleads with her, "Give me my chance" (l.64). He asks for help in such a way that his wife pushes him away again. She throws the accusation at him, "There you go sneering now!"" (l.70). This starts a second argument between the two. The argument now is whether the husband can grieve for the child, in the way that he is allowed without society looking down on him? The husband wants the world to know that he is hurting too, but how can he do this? The husband was never taught to grieve, so he is in the process of learning how to do this. The wife does not ... • 33. Analysis Of ' The Unforgiven I ' Metallica is a heavy metal band that began in 1981. While the last song released by the band was in 2008, the group is still widely popular. Perhaps the most popular songs are the "The Unforgiven" trilogy. "The Unforgiven I" is one of Metallica's most popular singles, behind Enter Sandman which is on the same album. Metallica's lead singer James Hetfield wrote the three songs about his life experiences, which is different from most of Metallica's work. The majority of Metallica's hits promote individuality and non–conformism (Nys 41). This trilogy of songs however is a story of heartbreak. They tell an overwhelmingly emotional story of resentment towards those who tried to control him (Irwin 7). James wrote these songs to pour out his emotions and express how he felt. Hetfield was born into a deeply religious family. His mother was a Christian, and she believed heavily that if one is meant to be healed, God will heal that person ("Ten things You May Not Know about James Hetfield"). As a result of this belief, when she was diagnosed with cancer, she did not seek medical help. She waited for God to heal her. Unfortunately, after waiting for God to heal her, she did not beat cancer and she died. This event fueled "The Unforgiven" trilogy and led to another work, "The God that Failed." "The Unforgiven I" speaks about James's parents and how he felt during his childhood. "The Unforgiven II" speaks about love and betrayal. "The Unforgiven III" speaks about forgiveness and ... This duty not only rests on the shoulders of the leaders of a community, but it also rests on the shoulders of the community as a whole. Resistance, in fact, had always happened in the past when a community is dissatisfied with a particular party. Therefore, based on the Milagro Bean Field War film directed by Robert Redford with reference to the novel of the same title by John Nicols, resistance in the context of the community of Milago may be interpreted as to taunt the enemy, to protect their own people and to protest for their rights. • 37. Analysis Of Robert Frost 's ' Birches ' The most misinterpreted element in Robert Frost poetry is his use of nature in a symbolic way. Frost is not describing the inner workings of nature as we see it all around us, but about exploring human psychology. For example, Frost uses Homely farmers, rural scenes, landscapes, and the natural world to epitomize a psychological struggle with an everyday experience that is often met with courage, will, and purpose; contextually, using Frost's own life and personal psychology. Frost's attitude in his poetry is honest, accepting, and stoical, nature is just used as a background. Frost usually begins his poems by delineate an observation of something in nature, then moves on toward a connection with some human concern or situation. He uses the natural world as symbolism in his poetry then suggests bigger, deeper, more complex ideas. In Robert Frost's poetry he is not purely writing about nature, rather he is using nature as a tool to compose ideas relating to human nature. In Robert Frost's poem "Birches" he uses nature as imagery to convey his disdain for the pressures of social life. Frost does not specify which social burden he is referring too, but we can piece together parts of this poem and derive at his true meaning. • 41. Analysis Of Truman Capote 's ' Cold Blood ' To judge is to irreparably arbitrate; the judged seldom find recourse if an error lies in the judge's logic. In criminal proceedings, the courts judge alleged criminals and deliver verdicts. A frequently encountered issue is determining guilt. Critics of the de facto court system cite moral culpability as an ideal that the courts fail to attain. Priding its moral superiority, the United States surprisingly lacks some of the basic rights to justice afforded to others elsewhere. America purports to have a duty to serve justice, yet the justice system provides little leeway to those whose crimes are not their fault. This notion of unfulfilled justice appears in In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. When Dick and Perry commit murder, the circumstances are such that Perry cannot be entirely accountable for the actions he took. Perry bears no responsibility for the crimes he committed; storied psychological illnesses and pitfalls compromised his sense of right and wrong, rendering him incapable of intervening in his planned crime with Dick. Perry never enjoyed to a hospitable, supportive family environment. Tragedy filled his early years, spoiling his innocent view of the world too early. Power is also a reoccurring theme that is without a doubt well displayed in Othello, Much Ado About Nothing, "Porphyria's Lover," "Eveline," and "My Last Duchess." In drama Othello, by Shakespeare, the title character suspects his wife Desdemona has been unfaithful with no proof and just the assumption of a friend. He publicly confronts Desdemona by hitting her and calling her a whore. Othello is in possession of power here because he publicly shows what he is capable of; he is not afraid to hit a woman. In short story "Eveline," by James Joyce, Eveline and her younger brothers grow up in an abusive environment, with their father the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the play Much Ado About Nothing, by Shakespeare, Claudio has false knowledge when it comes to his fiance, Hero, being unfaithful, and proceeds to publicly confront her in front of their friends and family. In a later scene, Hero's cousin Beatrice suggests to Claudio's friend Benedick that he should kill Claudio because of his false accusations toward Hero. Beatrice has power because she is able to take advantage of Benedick's feeling for her and convince him to kill Claudio. These texts all include the similarity of abusive power. Irrational decisions and behaviors, such as murder and sanity, are often times the effect of abusive power. The drama Othello, by Shakespeare, and the short story "Eveline," by James Joyce, both exemplify similar forms of power. During the course of the theatrical piece Othello, the protagonist is led on by Iago to believe his wife to be unfaithful. Whether Desdemona truly was dishonest is left ambiguous by the end. "DESDEMONA: Why, sweet Othello– OTHELLO: (striking her) Devil! DESDEMONA: I have not deserved this... OTHELLO: Oh, devil, devil! If that the earth could teem with woman's tears, Each drop she falls would prove a crocodile. Out of my sight!" (Shakespeare). Othello confronts Desdemona about his apparent knowledge of her being unfaithful; publicly striking her and calling her a whore, even though he has no solid proof. • 49. Essay on The Mind of a Serial Killer As police walk into an abandoned house, a foul stench overtakes them. The room is dim and looks as though no one has been here for months. They walk further into the house and begin to see spots of blood on the floor. They follow this trail down the stairs into the basement where the smell becomes overwhelming, causing some of the officers to gasp and run back up the stairs. In the basement, they find the remains of several young boys who have been molested and badly mutilated. What could cause someone to participate in such horrendous deeds? What sort of person is able to perform such wicked acts? Serial killers always have aroused the curiosity and concern of the public. People seem to be both fascinated and repulsed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second key characteristic of most serial killers is an overwhelming need for control. Women and children are often targeted because they are seen as weak and easily dominated figures. Killers will tie their victims up with ropes or chains and watch them helplessly struggle to free themselves. They may also torture them and watch as their pleas for freedom fall upon deaf ears. Many killers are demented and exhibit signs of future violence at a very early age. Society often turns to the upbringing of the killer for answers. Many killers speak of their childhoods being full of sexual abuse, torture, and mayhem (Scott). In his book Serial Killers, Joel Norris speaks of violence as something that cycles from generation to generation: "Parents who abuse their children, physically as well as psychologically, instill in them an almost instinctive reliance upon violence as a first resort to any challenge. Childhood abuse not only spawns violent reactions, but also affects the child's health, including brain injuries, malnutrition, and other developmental disorders" (49 – 50). Violence early in life may lead to these undesirable tendencies to abuse and kill. Parents often believe that strict discipline will help the individual grow up to be strong, but it, in turn, creates a gap between the child and the parents. The child does not feel loved or wanted. Clara Schumann : A Modern Artist Named Carly Simon Lyndsay Riley Music 101 Professor Fewtrell 5 August 2015 Clara Schumann A modern artist named Carly Simon once said "A really strong woman accepts the war she went through and is ennobled by her scars" (Brainyguote, 1). This is a great description of the strong and talented Clara Schumann. Her story is full of achievements, love and tragedy and throughout all of it she carries herself with poise and strength that really is not seen much in the present generations. Although Clara Schumann accepted her war and came out proud and confident in herself and her success. This talented composer was born in Leipzig on September 13, 1819 to her parents Friedrich and Marianne Wieck. Her mother was a very talented singer and pianist and her father, though he studied Theology in school, was also a great pianist and musical teacher. Friedrich was a very prideful man. He pushed his wife and daughter to succeed with the zealous attempt to receive musically inclined high stature from their work and to gain more attention towards his teaching abilities. This Dangerous desire for fame and recognition soon led to Marianne's resentment towards him and progressed to a divorce when Clara was only five years old (Mitchell, 1). With Clara left to be raised by her father she was introduced to music rather early on. Friedrich, still striving for more recognition, made sure that Clara became well educated in the musical field. My Last Duchess and Porphyria's Lover by Robert Browning In the two poems there is a lot of 'dramatic monologue' where the writer is showing his personal his personal feelings in the poem. It is also classified when a single person is talking and asking questions with no reply like in 'The Last Duchess' the Duke is talking to the servant about his past wife but all the servant is interested in is whether the Duke will marry the Count's daughter. My Last Duchess is about a duke who wants to marry the Count's daughter. The Count does not know the duke very much this is why he sends his servant round to visit the Duke and his property. When the poem starts the servant is already at the Duke's house. The Duke very kindly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Porphyria's Lover is about an anonymous guy who is having an affair with Porphyria. Porphyria's anonymous lover is very annoyed that Porphyria does not declare her love for him and leave her partner for him, but as the stormy night grew Porphyria started to admit her love for him. Porphyria's lover said 'Happy and proud, at last I knew Porphyria worshipped me, at this moment she is mine no one can stop that now' Porphyria's lover is debating what to do to keep this moment special. Porphyria's lover now knows what to do he says 'Perfectly pure and good, I found a thing to do, and all her hair in one long yellow string wound three times her little throat around, and strangled her' he is saying that he killed her. Porphyria's lover ends the poem by saying 'And yet God has not said a word' he thinks he's done no wrong at all. Porphyria's lover thinks he has done no wrong because God has said nothing and he wanted to sabre the moment, but he has just strangled his true love. He is obviously a possessive pig who just thinks about himself all the time. Life in the nineteenth century for women was dreadful, as Robert Browning has shown us in his two magnificent poems. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By acquiring DreamWorks the main advantage that the company will be able to derive is the fact that this will help the company in consolidating the market position of the company. Another important factor that will probably be a guiding light for the acquisition is the fact that recently the company has not fared well in the box office. This will result in the fact that Pixar will have to pay lesser price while trying to acquire the company. However the company has traditionally challenged Disney at the box office by offering the films that tell stories with a bit more subversion and humor as compared to Disney. The company DreamWorks has also acquired a loyal following in the countries like Russia, Korea, China and Brazil unlike any other studios (Shaw, 2013). Thus if Pixar is able to successfully acquire Dream works then it will able to command a significant portion of the foreign market. As the world of animation is no longer a monopoly the companies have to all the time strive to be better and to consolidate their position in the market. The acquisition of DreamWorks will provide that perfect opportunity for Pixar.

The Themes of Love and Loss in My Last Duchess, La Belle Dame Sans Merci, When we Two Parted, and Villegiature Works Cited Missing The poems, 'My Last Duchess', 'La Belle Dame Sans Merci' and 'When We Two Parted' and 'Villegiature' by Robert Browning (1812–1889), John Keats (1795–1821), Lord Byron (1788–1824) and Edith Nesbit (1858–1924) respectively, have all been written in the nineteenth century. But, what people in such relationships fail to realise until it is too late is the downside to this sort of relationship, not only for the 'dominated', but also for the 'dominating', as such an obsession with ruling over another eventually led the Duke to murder his wife. Though most people would not have taken as drastic a measure as the Duke, the poet probably uses such a negatively powerful result to emphasize on the harmful aspects of such a relationship. Also, this poem follows a strict rhyme scheme and has a conversational rhythm. It is written in iambic pentameter, which probably conveys the conflict within himself between what he says and what he really is – a murderer! Furthermore, this sort of communion does not hold many positive aspects for the partner who lets himself/herself be controlled by the other either. In 'La Belle Dame Sans Merci', the knight says, "And that is why I sojourn here/Alone and palely loitering/Though the sedge has wither'd from the lake/And no birds sing", the sad condition of the knight here emphasizes on the downbeat to this type of love and the sad, lonely image (from winter) is used to create a greater impact on the reader. • 63. Persuasive Essay On Political Advertising Political ads can be viewed as annoying, excessive, biased, and unnecessary. This opinion is shared among many people within America with many wanting all ads to stop entirely. Now, are these ads truly needed or are they just to make a candidate look good? Certain strategies used in political campaigns can be confusing and frustrating. However, they can also help bring people together to discuss their opinions and beliefs in order to decide who to support. Political ads can encourage people to come together because of a common cause, improving our nation, and who is the best candidate for President. Political signs and commercials are one tactic that can be misleading. Many people feel that candidates use bandwagons and endorsements to help them look good and promise immediate changes which are either not possible or can take a long time to achieve. This is like with Mondale Ferraro, who made many different types of images to make him look more popular (Document A). However, these images also help people decide who would be better for the job based off of looks, beliefs, and other attributes. I would use these to help make myself stand out from the other candidates by putting in true aspects into my campaign so they do not put false hope into what I stand for. This also helps decide what issues the public focuses on the most based on their beliefs. The candidates running for President try to get rid of the issues the public are concerned about to encourage the public to vote for them. Bandwagons use well known and respected groups of people to influence the public to vote for a candidate because they are doing it. This can be done with several methods, like endorsement, glittering generalities, and even using a spoil system to intrigue people into electing them. This is like the Reagan TV ad where he tried to improve his image with the actions he had promised, which spread with the public (Document B). In addition, it helps clarify what people want most out of a candidate for their benefit, as well as their own benefits. I would use bandwagons, because it helps get other people's attention and make myself popular to others. But these methods can help a candidate who already has a lot of public support. This ... In the two poems "Out, Out–" and "Disabled", a similar theme of loss is portrayed. Both of these poems deal with the subject of physical loss, as both protagonists of these poems experience accidental amputation. Both Robert Frost and Wilfred Owen manage to captivate their audience's attention, and also a certain degree of sympathy for the protagonists' misfortune. They do this successfully, with the use of common literary techniques and linguistic skills, such as simile, metaphor, personification, contrast, and many more literary devices, which range from obvious to very subtle. This use of tripling is very effective, as it may symbolise a heartbeat, slowly beating away, to its fate. The dashes further enhance this, as they make the reader pause in the gaps between the words, making the "heartbeats" seem further and further apart, and eventually dying away. Another quote which gives the reader a sense of loss is the final stanza of the poem: "And they, since they were not the ones dead, turned to their affairs", in line 33–34. This quote, to put into simpler words, means that the people who were working with this young boy (who happen to be his family), had better things to do than to care for the death of this young boy, and simply turned away, and got back to work. This action seems alarmingly heartless, but nevertheless, Frost very successfully makes the jreaders feel a huge sense of loss. This line once again shows how meaningless and vulnerable life is. Written in the 1910s by Wilfred Owen, "Disabled" is a poem describing the experience of a young soldier losing his limbs after fighting in World War I. Compare how these texts explore aspirations and identity? Both the texts 'The Great Gatsby' by F.Scott Fitzgerald and 'Sonnets from the Portuguese' by Elizabeth Barrett Browning explore the ideas of aspirations and identity developing a deeper understanding of the texts. Both texts share these ideas through the characters and the values of idealism and hope, and personal voice and identity. This clearly explores the idea of aspirations, hope and idealism within the sonnet sequence. The Sonnet sequence also involves the idea of identity with Barrett Browning coming to terms with her emerging sexuality and realisation of love. The sequence was written by Barrett Browning thus providing a personal voice to the sonnets allowing a portrayal of the sequence of events of her personal identity and expression of love.
