Essay on School Violence
On April 20, 1999 Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold opened fire on Columbine Highschool killing
twelve fellow classmates and one teacher. School violence changes our youths morals. From
bullying to peer pressure, youth are exposed to school violence everyday. What is school violence?
School violence varies from accounts of "death, homicide, suicide, weapon related violence, in the
US." (c1) School violence can occur to and from school, while attending a school sponsored event,
on a bus, or at an activity.
Violence in school goes back to the 1800s'. The first publicly funded schools for delinquents was
built in Massachussettes during 1847. In 1899 Illinois "established the first statewide court for
children". During the 1900s' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(d1) The National Crime Victimization Survey states that nearly two point seven million violent
crimes take place each year, on school campus, or near school campus.
Most children and teens are left home alone and unattended after school between three and seven
pm. The current generation today are "latchkey children". When a child is left without adult
supervision the child has the opportunity to get into trouble easier. Violent video games teach
children to "kill or be killed".(b14) Modern entertainment allows youth to play games with cutting
edge graphics and digital technology to enhance the realism of the game. When no parents are
around to supervise the television it is not being monitored properly. The NIA has found that the
ratings system is weak and parents are still complaining. Children see violence occurring in
television, and also in movies. Movies depict scenes of violence whether it be , violent scenes, or
violent action heroes. Some children do not understand reality vs. video game and movie fantasy.
Problems and issues at home are commonly found when families suffer from family violence,
divorce, drug abuse, poor income, unemployment, and illness.
Bullies at school cause an impact on youth. Children and teens are harassed verbally and physically.
Bullies usually suffer from a "delinquency case before age 13, low family income, poor school
performance, psychomotor clumsiness, low non verbal IQ, sibling convicted of crime,

Examples Of Stereotypes In The Breakfast Club
Written and directed by John Hughes, The Breakfast Club is the first quintessential high school
drama that has become one of the most significant regarding high school student images. As any
typical high school stereotype, there is the jock, princess, geek, the basket case and of course, the
bad boy, John Bender. The focus of the movie's characters is these five students, but Bender is the
most outshining character of all. It is no doubt that the point of this movie is to prove that everyone
may be different in their own way, but successfully convey that each of them have the same problem
in common; contempt for the adult society and mostly image. But who is that character that slowly

Usually a jock and a princess befriending a geek, the social outcast and the bad boy, would not only
be socially unacceptable, but would also be highly unlikely. Yet again, Bender manages to crush this
barricade down. Although the friendship may have been forced at first, but what brought them
together? He drives the characters over the edge. Without Bender being part of detention, the movie
will have gone with the four characters just greeting each other, or not, and doing what they are told
to do. As an emotionally wounded teenager, who is just blowing off some steam, his aggressive
attitude creates a tension between their supervisor, turns a publicly opened room into a private one,
initiates the arguments, sends each of the characters high on marijuana and eventually creates a
domino effect of brutal honesty. On the surface, this looks as if it takes a turn for the worse; on the
contrary, it provided an opportunity for all the characters to vent to each other while forgetting about
their social category. Hughes succeeds in being able to perfectly mimic what goes on in the minds of
teenagers. The intense scene when all five of them gather in a circle, and pour their hearts out to one
another, for example, Bender feeling offended when Claire compares her life to his. This scene is

Mean Girls Cady Heron is a 16 year old teenager who moved to a small town in Chicago where she
also attended Northshore High School. She was homeschooled by her parents and they also stayed
in Africa for about 12 years because of her parents job but since her mom got an offer in Chicago
they have to move back. Since it was her first time going to a mainstream school, it was really hard
for her to adapt especially her age. It would also be her first time dealing with a lot of social rules
that many teenage girls deal with today. Her first friends that she met at this new school are pretty
much complete outcasts, Janice Ian Dyke and Damien, later on she finds herself crossing paths with
the three most popular girls in the school called, The Plastics. Regina George who's "The Queen
Bee" of the group, leading this group of 3 girls, tries to make Cady be apart of this clique by
introducing her to their crazy rules and luxury lifestyles. She told Janice and Damien that ... Show

The Culture in Mean girls compared to today's modern culture are pretty much similar. In Mean
girls they go to a public school where there's a lot of various groups of people with different beliefs
and values that they follow. Although at North Shore High, the main value of most of the students is
popularity and what is your status on the social ladder. Even though in modern high schools
popularity come in a factor but is not really a mainstream. I don't think that is truly desirable in a lot
of schools. When the fight broke up in North Shore High between all the junior girls, compares to
modern high school if something like that happened, I don't think that it would've been gotten crazy
like in the movie nor handled calmly. I'm pretty sure that there would be serious consequences that
the students would

However, John Hughes film rebuts with this system. The antagonist, John Bender, is the symbol to
breaking the idea of stereotypical image amongst society. Bender takes the first initiative to
annihilate his misunderstood "bad boy" image, he reveals that every teenage is fears the idea of
being honest, uses his so called "image" to break down the barricade for a potential relationship and
sparks a friendship deemed impossible. All this is broken down by Bender admitting the
misconception of his image. "And these children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds
are immune to your consultations. They are quite aware of what they're going through..." (Bowie

honesty and acceptance? Do they really want to psychologically and mentally destroy each other
just for acceptance? Who are you

My Trip To Doylestown
The following is 100% true. It happened a while ago, but I'll do my best to put everything in as
much detail as I can remmeber. It's a story of the funniest thing that ever happened to me. I believe I
was 19 years old. My best friend Nick was 17 at the time. One day we took a trip out to Doylestown,
PA. The main reason for this was to go to the comic book store in town – Cyborg One Comics.
Obviously this was back when I was still collecting comics. Nick had told me that the store was one
of the best in the area, so on one weekend (I don't remember if it was Satorday or Sunday) we took a
trip up there. I couldn't tell you today what book I bought from there. I was never one for statues or
other memorabilia but, I know that I bought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being in the middle of the county, all of the major county court cases take place here, but I digress.
Anyway, like most small towns, Doylestown has a Main Street. The only Wendy's in Doylestown is
on Main Street. At the time, the Wendy's wasn't an overly large building. We go inside and order
lunch. Minor details escape me in this story. I can tell you that what I remember next is something
that I affectionately call "The Wendy's Incident". I don't remember what we had for lunch, how
many people were in the dining room or even what time it was. What I do remember makes me
break out in laughter even today and it's something that I occassionally try to recreate (to a degree).
During lunch, I felt a burp coming on. I let loose with it and took my hands and pushed on my
stomach as the burp happened. The issue with this is that the burp kept coming and the volume
seemed to increase exponentially with the length of the burp. All I can remember is that the burp
was almost inhuman and at the time, the crew was in the back of the restaruant in the kitchen. If
you're ever seen the movie Revenge of the Nerds II, think of the scene where Booger meets Snotty
and Snotty burps and shatters the mirror in his room. This was one of those

The Theory Of Natural Selection
Life is evolution. Humans continuously try to keep up with the latest trends in an attempt to remain
relevant in society. In the past ten years, humans have evolved immensely with the introduction,
development, and integration of technology into their culture. Virtually everything can be found on
the internet. Pictures and documents are being shared through cloud storage rather than being shared
directly with a physical document, and doing homework online is now the norm. People have
adapted to the new age, and those who have not adapted are being left behind––this is where the
theory of natural selection meets modern cognitive science. Steven Pinker, the author of How The
Mind Works, argues that the concept of natural selection is not as linear as society may think it is
with today's information. There is more to evolution than straightforward "survival of the fittest".
Using his background knowledge in cognitive science and the social sciences, Pinker links the
biological approach to evolution with his cognitive science approach in an attempt to generate a new
perspective to the theory of evolution. Steven Pinker supports his claim that the concept of natural
selection is more than a simple biological adaptation, but rather a combination between biological
adaptation and an adaptation to the "cognitive niche", with historical observations, analogical
evidence, and exploitation of archaeological evidence. Throughout "Revenge of the Nerds", Steven
Pinker uses historical

Student Academic Clubs And Student Organizations : Do They...
Student Academic Clubs and Student Organizations: Do They Help Students with A Sense of
Belonging? In what ways do Student Academic Clubs and Student Organizations in college help
students fit in, to achieve a sense of belonging? There are many ways student academic clubs and
student organizations help with a sense of belonging in an academic setting. On the North Idaho
College campus in Coeur d 'Alene, Idaho we have English club with the mission statement through
North Idaho College "The North Idaho English Club is a group of intellectual individuals who strive
to provide the North Idaho College with literary insight and events". The N.I.C has Philosophy Club
their mission statement "Our mission is to provide aspiring intellectuals on and off campus with a
constructive environment in which to learn and grow together". These are just a few of the North
Idaho College Academic Clubs, there are many to choose from. It depends on where the student
feels a liking to or a sense of belonging, a connection. Kimberly F. Case is part of Center for
Intercultural Teaching & Learning, Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana talks about "Participating in
campus clubs and organizations is one way for students to become purposefully involved in their
educational experience. As students participate in these groups, they can expect to experience gains
in a variety of areas: cognitive skills (Gellin, 2003); self–confidence and interpersonal skills (Huang
& Chang, 2004); a variety of developmental

Major Themes In Brave's Life
Robotics prodigy Hiro lives in the city of San Fransokyo. Next to his older brother, Tadashi, Hiro's
closest companion is Baymax, a robot whose sole purpose is to take care of people. When a
devastating turn of events throws Hiro into the middle of a dangerous plot, he transforms Baymax
and his other friends, Go Go Tamago, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Fred into a band of high–tech
heroes. All of them fight to beat the masked man from taking over the entire world.
Some majors themes in the movie are friendship, anger, and creativity. Early on the movie, it is
known that Hiro is a lonely child, his only friends are his brother and his toy robot. After the loss of

He gets mad at Callaghan for what happened to his brother and feels the need to seek revenge on
him. His friends encourage him not to kill Callaghan because of what happened to his brother.
Listening to his friends, Hiro does not kill Callaghan and it turns out to be a great decision that he
made. This theme in this movie is relevant today because many people often feel the need to seek
revenge if something bad was inflicted upon them. For example, when my brother punched me in
the stomach randomly just to inflict harm on me, I felt the natural want to punch him back for what
he has done. In hindsight, it is not good to seek revenge because it just made the situation worse,
both sides wounded after the brawl. While many may believe that seeking revenge is the way to
settle disputes, in many cases, people tend to end up getting hurt like I did myself. Another moral in
the story is friends and family help each other. After the event that happened to his brother, his
family and friends helped comfort him. Baymax, his personal healthcare robot, diagnoses Hiro and
finds out that his emotional health is low, so it prescribes Hiro with support from his family and
friends. On top of that, his friends even fight with him to defeat the

Satire In Mean Girls
Mean Girls is a critically acclaimed movie known for its benevolent satire that circulates around the
reality and cruelty of high school life featuring social status, class, gender and race in today's
society.
The beginning of the movie starts out with the main character Cady Heron, venturing to her first day
of being at an actual American high school after being home schooled in Africa all her life. She
experiences a severe culture shock just on her first day once she realizes everyone isn't as friendly
and open as they may have been in Africa. Cady takes goes about her first day taking mental notes
on everything she runs into, the un–fair, untrusting high school teachers and rude, cruel student
body. However, Cady does eventually meet some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regina feels as if because she has a lot of money and the freedom to do whatever she wants, that she
can take advantage of other people who she feels are less than her because of their social status as a
"nerd" or "unpopular". During this scene, a critical part in the movie is brought to attention. "The
Burn Book" which is a book that "the plastics" have put together that features pictures of all the
people at their school that they don't like and/or want to get revenge on. Next to their pictures are
nasty comments about them, which later backfires after Regina is excluded from "the plastics" and
decides to take Karen, Gretchen, Cady socially down with her by turning "The Burn Book" into the
principal's office. Once she speaks to the principal, she explain how she had nothing to do with "The
Burn Book" and how Karen, Cady, and Gretchen are the sole creators of the book because they're
the only ones who aren't in it. Regina then copies all of the pages in "The Burn Book", handing out
the papers around school so everyone can see the lies and rumors spread about them. This creates
chaos throughout the social classes in the school, everyone ends up fighting (mostly the girls) and
that's when everyone realizes that their mental representations of other people are just as shallow as
the lies and rumors being spread about

Stereotypes In Mean Girls
"Mean girls, jocks, band nerds, geeks, and freaks" are all terms used to stereotype and group teens in
the 2004 movie hit, Mean Girls. This film created controversies in the content that it delivered. The
credibility of adolescents is questioned greatly in this film. Mean Girls taught us that popularity isn't
all it's cracked up to be, in fact, they taught us that it's actually meaningless. Through extreme
character development, this movie shows the viewer that at the end of the day, all of the teens are
the same. They all struggle to fit in, and that's really the moral of this hilarious, but raunchy story.
Mean Girls captures the struggle that every teen seems to have at some point of where they belong
and how they relate to everyone around them. The film takes those stereotypes and melds them into
what all high schools should aspire to be: a community. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

no matter how many other times I have watched it. The vulgar jokes, some of the content matter,
and some of the strives that Cady makes to seem popular are wince–worthy moments every single
time. While there is much exaggeration in a lot of the movie's aspects, such as the way the "Plastics"
rule the school, the film remains an accurate representation of what high school is really like. Trends
and rumors do indeed travel that quickly, and some people really are that terrible to

Mean Girls: The Adolescence Stage I will be covering the movie Mean Girls and some major things
that the movie has in concepts of the development that occurs in the adolescence stage such as
attachment, relational aggression, peer influence, and emotions. (Mark Waters, 2004) This movie is

You've got the pressure of being liked by many peers, and perceived popularity. If you picture an
image of the "popular" kids, you quickly realize that they have power but are not all liked so well by
many kids and teachers. Teens with high perceived popularity have good social and leadership skills
and are attractive and always dressed the best, but they also may be aggressive and can do a lot of
damage by bullying, and being mean to other kids. Relational aggression – subtle and indirect
aggression that involves gossiping about and ignoring or excluding others. (Page457) Indirect
aggression such as gossiping about and ignoring others, even presumed friends, although boys
engage in more direct aggression than girls, girls tend to engage in more relational aggression, at
least in adolescence (Smith & Rose, & Schwartz–Mette, 2010). In life it is easier to feel good about
yourself if you are "popular" than if you are a "nerd". Once the cliques gain perceived popularity,
they often lose sociometric popularity, and become less well like "Mayeux&Sandstrom&Cillessen,

Nerds and nerd culture has been very prominent through the decades. From the 1970s to the present
they have been represented through movies, TV shows and live–events; such as, Comic–con. They
have predominantly been depicted as featuring characteristics in which other individuals usually
stray from in order to better fit in with society; for example, wearing braces, dorky glasses, geeky
hair cut, and usual nerd attire. Furthermore, nerds have been depicted in popular media as
individuals who lack popularity and possess an above average intelligence. The character of Steve

But, modern society has taken nerd culture and appropriated it to be seen as something cool and
trendy. Popular culture has adapted and appropriated nerd culture. Super–hero movies, and
television have taken nerd culture into a status were it is the popular culture. The Big Bang Theory
is a prime example of nerd culture being appropriated by pop media. The actors in the show play
nerds when they are not necessarily ones, and they popularize the culture in which they are
appropriating. A similar situation would be Weird Al' Yankovic; he is a musician who parodies
music by popular artists and makes the original music into something comical. This is apparent by
the music video White & Nerdy in which he is appropriating nerds and their culture. Influences such
as these have caused the popularity of nerd culture to become a widespread phenomenon. The
appropriation of nerd culture by modern mainstream culture has removed the negative appeal of
nerd culture; thus, having a positive affect which nerd culture more enticing to individuals. Nerd
culture has been predominant within the recent decades and such had gradually begun to receive a
great following. But, the way people see nerd culture today is vastly different then what it was seen
as before the 21st century. Modern culture appropriates nerd culture and enhances it into something
in which the individuals are not necessarily ousted or shunned by society. Instead modern culture

Essay about The Effects of Cyber Bullying
Cyberbullying is defined as deliberately attempting to upset someone; cyberbullying can happen via
a number numerous ways. With all different forms of social media, whether it be Twitter, Facebook,
or even, Instagram, cyberbullying can occur. Bullying effects our communities. Kids that are bullied
appear likely to experience anxiety, depression, loneliness, unhappiness, and sleep deprivation. Yet,
while the victim might appear passive, it stands imperative that the parent may not. When a parent
takes part in his or her child's social media, it makes it harder for his or her child to be made fun of
because their parents watch over them. A parent can stand as the ultimate counselor a child needs

Power–hungry people do it to torment others and social popularity. Revenge of the nerd may start
out as defending themself from traditional bullying only to find that he or she enjoys being the tough
guy. Mean girls do it to help bolster, or remind people, of their own social standing. Some think they
are justifying the wrong and standing up for others. In general, cyberbullies have their own motives
on why they are involved in cyberbullying. Some of their intentions have been identified as
anonymity, power, attention, retaliation, boredom, jealousy, and the pleasure of inflicting pain.
Numerous people who participate in cyber bullying do it to make themselves feel better. Bullies tend
to have much insecurity, but they hide them through insulting others. There are many ways to
overcome cyberbullying. He, or she, may just want to click "delete" on every hateful email, text, or
IM. However, this may not appear as the right motive because there may come a time when this
bully needs to get reported, and he or she will need all the evidence right there in front of him or her.
To prevent bullying one must save and print each and every mean thing they send. The day will
come, when he or she will need this evidence. If the person receives a "bully" message, never get
more involved than needed. Replying to that hurtful comment will only worsen the problem. When
all else fails, get others involved. Let Parents or teachers know about the situation.

Naked Economics Summary
Naked Economics Summer Assignment 1. The first chapter in the book is about the market and its
inner workings. The book briefly explains the idea of supply and demand, in which the price of a
certain good or service will reach the point where all the demand is equivalent to the supply.
However, the value of something is not determined by its necessity, but its desire within society, as
seen by the difference in cost between a diamond and life giving water. Markets operate as they do
because people try to maximize the amount of utility for themselves. Nevertheless, a strict

Margo and Quentin represent the deeper ideal that a person's true self is hidden from the world. In
the novel, every one of the characters have a different view of Margo; some consider her to be the
popular chick, or the mysterious lone wolf. Quentin sees her as something akin to a goddess, almost
obsessing over her in his search. To Margo, the town that she ... Show more content on

These views are further solidified when Margo takes Quentin out on a night of revenge and crime,
with that assurance that "The cops could charge us with breaking, and they could charge us with
entering, but they could not charge us with breaking or entering" (Green 40). This is just one of
many demonstrations of Margo's otherness. In spite of this, as the novel progresses and the
characters begin to flesh out, Quentin gains more depth as a person and other characteristics are seen
of him that were not noticed before. Conversely, Margo is dissected further, as her character and
being is picked apart and shown to have been not quite what she seemed. At the very end of the
novel, Margo reveals that, to her, Quentin had simply been a storybook character, "fearless and
heroic and willing to die to protect me" (Green 175). some sort of dashing prince to fit with her own

that leads Quentin to understand that she is not who he thought she

Comparing Millers And Reeve's Tale
The Millers and Reeve's tale are a lot like a typical sports rivalry. A real life example of the strife
between the two men, is the Prep vs. La Salle tug–of–war. The schools are almost identical in beliefs
and the way they are run, but the tension between the hawks and the explorers is beyond any normal
rivalry. Just like how the resentment between the Miller and the Reeve is not just some normal
disagreement. Although the Miller and the Reeve have contrasting, distinct looks about them, they
are not much different. They are both working class men on the same pilgrimage with the same view
of each other. The Miller was your emblematic jock. He weighed in at a husky 224 pounds or

The Reeve's tale on the other hand is basically an attack towards the Miller. His tale has hardly any
humor and even deals with the topic of rape. It just seems like the Reeve made up his tale just as a
comeback for the Miller. It was pathetic and malicious. They also differ in the way the protagonists

Paper Towns
The book I am currently reading is called Paper Towns by John Green, the genre of the book is
mystery because close to the ending of the book she leaves clues to where she ran away. There are
305 pages in the book. A review this book got on it was "The following is quite a lot of dribble that I
felt the need to get off my chest...". I recommend this book ages 14 and above because it has some
words that are bad and I think some kids parents might not want their kids to see those words. The
most important characters in Paper Towns are Margo Spiegelman and Quentin Jacobsen. Margo is
quite a dare devil, she challenges herself A LOT. She sneaks out of the house at night when her
parents are asleep. Margo can be funny but then turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quentin then asked why she wanted to borrow the car, she then responded saying she had to do
things and go to the store. So they soon got into the car and drove off to the store. Margo needed:
Vaseline, six–pack Mountain Dew, one dozen Tulips, one bottle of water, tissues, and one can of
blue spray paint. The reason Margo needed that stuff was because she was trying to get revenge on
her friends and ex–boyfriend. Why?, Because he was cheating on her with another girl and her
friends knew all along and they didn't even think of telling Margo that he was cheating on her. I
think the theme of this book is, to get revenge on people for not telling you bad things so later on
they won't hurt you, like in this case Margo's ex–boyfriend. I think this is the theme because if
Margo's friends have told her sooner, she wouldn't of been doing this to all her friends and her ex–
boyfriend. The conflict is mostly Man Vs. Society like as Quentin tries to solve the clues she left
and finding her. It's also Man Vs. Society as Quentin is trying to find Margo because she
disappeared and he feels guilty. Since my book was made into a movie, I would have to compare 1
thing of the movie and book. "Sea World" In The Book– In the book it talks about how it's the

Revenge Of The Nerds Pinker Analysis
Sydney Bennett

Evolution of the Brain
In "Revenge of the Nerds" the author, Steven Pinker, begins by arguing for his claim that there were
four main traits that helped develop primates' casual reasoning that eventually led them to evolve
into the humans we are today. These four traits are vision, group living, use of hands, and hunting.
Pinker provides each trait with several reasons and factual evidence, including a chart, on its
contributions to casual reasoning. Later in the article, however, Pinker focuses on his main claim
which questions the timeline for human brain evolution. The first trait that Pinker mentions is
vision. He argues that the reason that vision makes a difference is due to depth ... Show more

Pinker provides evidence that through evolution, upright posture may have evolved under selection
pressures, eventually leading to the reshaping of our bones that allowed use of our hands. Pinker's
reason for this claim is that monkeys and gorillas, with their upright posture, have frequent use for
their hands which leads to his warrant that "Precision hands and precision intelligence co–evolved in
the human lineage, and the fossil record shows that hands let the way" Pinker (194). Pinker believes
the last main contribution was hunting. His main reason for this claim is the nutrients that hunting
provides. Pinker mentions evidence to this statement by stating all of the advantages to eating meat,
including that this pure protein contains amino acids, energy–rich fat, and dispensable fatty acids, as
well as stating how the act of hunting requires a lot of skill which helps with brain development. His
warrant for this claim is that hunting was a necessity for our ancestors, as it provided food year–

Senior Quentin Jacobsen has grown up with senior Margo Roth Spiegelman, but as they got older
their social lives went serrate ways. Quentin or "Q" as his friends call him is now more of a nerd,
hanging out with his band nerd friends Ben and Radar. Quentin is smart, careful, kind, intelligent,
and extremely level headed. Margo on the other hand is the total opposite. Margo Roth Spiegelman
is the popular girl, dating the jock, gorgeous, and very mysterious. Quentin Jacobs has the night of
his life when Margo Roth Spiegelman the most popular girl at school climbs into his window to ask

Essay on Rhetorical Analysis on High School
High school, the best times of our lives. But in every situation others don't experience it as the time
of their lives. In specific, the so called, "Loser, Nerds, Outcasts." Sometimes the perception that
most high school movies convey for this certain group are the reality. In this article "High school
confidential: Notes on teen movies" by David Denby, He describes the functions of an everyday
American high school. David Denby uses very effective language and rhetoric to provide the minds
of the opposing side. A sample of the rhetoric skills he uses is stereotypes, ethos, and pathos.
The most disliked teenager that runs the halls is a popular blonde–.... She's tall and slender, with a

He has firsthand experience the life inside of high school, so he must have seen these type of
characters when he was in high school. So what reasons wouldn't give us the mind set of trusting
someone that's experienced the high school life? This is why his ethos is so important in opposing
the other side. He also uses pathos very well through the columbine shooting."The enemy is other
teens and the social system that they impose on one another." The teens that impose such a system
are the ones that were named in this essay. And this system is imposed through insults. But one can
only take so much, and that is what happened in the Columbine shooting. These "gothic" kids were
under attack by the popular group, and pushed them to the edge to where they believe that doing
such cruel acts could somehow with the satisfaction of revenge. It is horrifying to realize that teens
are so heartless, but that is what has happened. This is not only emotionally effective to the reader,
but also logically. Because if you think about it, Denby imposes his statement that there is the
popular bitch, the jock, and says that they are pushing a social system. So this just reassures the fact
that what Denby describes is true and happens every day with the halls of high school without
outsiders

The Representation Of Villains In Disney's Film, Big Hero
Just looking at it, Disney's film "Big Hero 6" is another representation of superheroes vs. mad
scientist villains. A 14 year–old prodigy named Hiro teams up with a group of friends from his nerd
school to take down a villain. This movie has an amazing script and an even better voice cast. It
sounds and looks fantastic, Disney's new technologies helped the movie achieve its creative quality.
But even though this movie is different. We all have heard this same story before. This film takes the
typical story line of a superheroes tale and mixes in creative themes that go against the typical
assumptions of the genre. This film shows us how it is a better choice to choose non–violence over
violence, how even the ones who have hurt us so bad ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hiro finds a way to override Baymax programming which then turns Baymax to a crime fighting
killing machine. In one of the most emotional scenes of the film, Baymax becomes the instrument of
revenge that Hiro wanted him to be. Baymax was meant to heal and mend people. He then later
learned to fight, but that is not who Tadashi created him to be. This movie argues that violence is not
something natural but rather a learned behavior, we must be "reprogrammed" to accept it. The rest
of the film reinforces the idea of the characters to find ways to stop the villain without using
violence. The best of the villains are the ones who believe that what they are doing is a just cause. In
"Big Hero 6", the masked man's motive for having stolen Hiro's microbots is understandable: he
needs them to save a life. Nevertheless revenge is not justice, despite the villains deeper motives he
is still a bad man. But the villain's backstory and motives pull at our heartstrings and it is indeed
hard not to have empathy for him. By creating a villain whose intentions were nothing more than
misguided grief, the film teaches the audience a valuable lesson about

The Role Of Self-Authorship In Revenge Of The Nerds
College is a time of transformation for students as they adapt to new environments and expectations.
It is also a time of increased freedom, where students learn more about themselves and who they are
as people. Baxter Magolda's Theory of Self–authorship deals with the journey of a person as they
define themselves and move from external to internal definition. In the movie, Revenge of the
Nerds, many of the characters move through this journey of self–authorship. In this paper, we will
focus on one of the characters in the movie, and show how he frees himself from the constraints of
external definition. We will begin with a brief summary of the movie, and then focus on how
Magolda's theory applies to the film.
Revenge of the Nerds is focuses on two best–friends, Gilbert and Lewis, who are freshman at
Adams College. For the purpose of this paper, we will focus mostly on Gilbert and his path of ...

In this phase, individuals ground themselves in an internally defined belief system and gain a deep
understanding of themselves (Evans, et al., 2010). Along with this understanding comes feelings of
strength that emanate from a pride for who they are; they are aware of external pressures, but do not
give into them (Evans, et al., 2010). After defeating the jocks in the competition, the nerd house was
completely destroyed. Lewis wants to give up, but Gilbert is infuriated and wants to keep fighting.
He disregards external opposition and goes to the pep–rally to confront the jocks. He makes a
speech declaring that he is a nerd and proud. It is clear at this point in the movie that Gilbert has
moved from trying to fit external expectations, to embracing an internal form of self–definition. He
realizes who he is and embraces that identity, defending it against opposition from the jocks. Thus,
Gilbert completes Magolda's path of

Nerds: The Third Culture
NERD SUBCULTURE
Maitreyee Raje .Prof. Trautman .FASH 782
In school and in life, we stereotype groups of people with similar interests and hobbies. Especially
in our teenage years and early adulthood, we categorize people almost immediately by what they
wear, what they do, and how they act. Nerds is a term used for a studious intellectual interested in a
particular topic. According to legend, "nerd" derives from "knurd", i.e "drunk" spelled backwards.
Nerd culture has been termed 'The Third Culture' according to many books. The culture is growing
in math, science, engineering and computer science faculties all over the world. As a group in
general, nerds tend to be highly attentive, achievement oriented to and focus on gaining knowledge
with an obsessive need to know every fact about their topic of interest. Nerds are driven more by
personal motivation like intellectual inquisitiveness and personal challenge over material ones like
money or status. More than anything what they have in common is they are commonly all

Nerds did not care about clothes and fashion, couldn't really understand style even if they could buy
it. Their clothes were functional, not fashionable. Wash and wear was the fabric treatment of choice,
saving precious ironing time for more important activities like computer programming. Thick–
rimmed glasses, high waters, top–buttoned plaid shirts, taped–together glasses, digital watches and
pocket protectors and oxford shoes was the typical fashion for the nerd in the

Society ridicules both the types of people, the virtuous and the immoral and or morons. This is of
course with varying degrees and depends on the context. Society is in a sense hypocritical and very
much bipolar, society can look upon you in desirable fashion, but in another context and or situation
in profound disgust. It merely depends on the context of the whole ordeal as not all vices are created
equal, just like all wholesome, righteous and angelic acts aren't either. It's all so subjective as well

How Is Chris Brander Presented In Just Friends
The characters in the 2005 film, "Just Friends" are a very interesting bunch. They are all different in
many ways but, somehow share some of the same qualities. The movies stars Ryan Reynolds, who

Jamie and Samantha James have a one similarity by the name of Chris Brander. The main character

Addison's Huge
Whether people mean to or not, at some point in their life they have made fun of someone. Some
people would say that it's better to make fun of people who do bad things rather than the ones who
are trying to accomplish great things. Joseph Addison states "If the talent of ridicule were employed
to laugh men out of vice and folly, it might be of some use to the world; but instead of this, we find
that it is generally made use of to laugh at men out of virtue and good sense, by attacking everything
that is solemn and serious, decent and praiseworthy in human life." I partially agree with Addison's
statement because ridiculing someone for their positive actions can persuade them to stop doing
them and become insecure. I disagree with this statement because making fun of jerks and bullies
won't make them stop, and intelligent peoples with good ideas should be determined no matter what.

Big Bang Theory is a humorous drama based on situations that might arise in day–to–day life,
otherwise known as a situational comedy. The television show is based on the social lives of four
friends who are professors, and socially classed as Nerds. It is presumptuous on first encounter that
the show will present with all the similarities of the 80's hit movies "Revenge of the Nerds." In fact,
their daily interactions mimic those fashioned as such. They exemplify "social awkwardness, sexual
failure and mathematical intelligence," all characteristics of a nerd, discussed in a thesis done by
Marina Kunert (p. 1). The lack of social skills, which often leads to clashes between them and other
people, makes them very interesting people.

Penny being a part of Big Bang Theory brings common sense and social interaction into their
otherwise, socially disconnected environment. The series starts with Penny, the attractive neighbor,
moves in next to the nerds Leonard and Sheldon and immediately becomes a potential love interest
for Leonard. Raj and Howard constantly struggle with girls but express the desire to be in a romantic
relationship. However, they all seem to form a circle of friendship. Idealized images of relationships
can create a more positive image about relationships (Kunert, p. 11). The link between two people
can shift from being friends to being lovers and vice versa. On the Big Bang Theory, Leonard and
Penny become friends first for a long time before becoming lovers. After breaking up they remain
friends.
Big Bang Theory has exceeded the expectations of many. It is definitely not what people thought it

is a product of natural selection and in that sense, the mind is our ancestor's past. Our ancestor's
beliefs and desires are information, as part of our brain. The computational theory of mind allows us
to keep this information (beliefs and desires) in our explanations of behavior. By doing this, the
meaning ended up to cause and be cause. Steven Pinker believed that computational theory of mind
came about through natural selection in order for our ancestors to solve and problems with the new
conditions such as figuring out of how to defeat the plants' and animals' defenses before they
counteract. The software that we inherited from our ancestor has ability of natural computation due
to the goals and desires that are preprogrammed. Our minds are calculating the costs and benefits of
decisions with our ancestor's past

Similarities Between The Great Gatsby And The Sweet...
The book, "The Sweet Revenge of Celia Door" contains similarities and differences to F. Scott
Fitzgerald's book,"The Great Gatsby". Both books present the theme of identity and gender and
individuality throughout their story. One similarity both of the books have is how the two characters
in the books represent the holder of power, control, and the desire to have popularity and fame to
make their lives worth living. In relation to the similarity, a difference that as well exists which is
the hold of power in Great Gatsby is Jay Gatsby whereas the hold of power mainly in the book is
Sandy Firestone. For example, in Great Gatsby, again women are basically dependent on men, men
are earning and making money for women or better as how men are in charge of everything and . In
in the "Sweet Revenge of Celia Door", it shows the female which is Sandy Firestone ... Show more

For the example conflict of how in Great Gatsby there is a fine divided line between the upper class
and lower such as upper class living in East or West egg, women are expected to wear fancy dresses
and luxurious jewelry, act modern and attend grand parties and meet other men and not allowed to
work. Men are expected to get more and more richer by earning the new money and have the old
money to show off. Lower class are supposed to be isolated from the upper class and be under the
rule of upper class.Compared to the society Celia is surrounded, the upper class would be the
popular students and lower class would be the less known or to describe them would be geeks or
nerds and etc. Girls such as Sandy Firestone have set up the standards of High school similar to
Great Gatsby of wearing fashionable clothing, certain people that should be near you, being fit but
instead of not working, Sandy and her followers don't do assignments as they seem as less important

Essay On School Violence

  • 1. Essay on School Violence On April 20, 1999 Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold opened fire on Columbine Highschool killing twelve fellow classmates and one teacher. School violence changes our youths morals. From bullying to peer pressure, youth are exposed to school violence everyday. What is school violence? School violence varies from accounts of "death, homicide, suicide, weapon related violence, in the US." (c1) School violence can occur to and from school, while attending a school sponsored event, on a bus, or at an activity. Violence in school goes back to the 1800s'. The first publicly funded schools for delinquents was built in Massachussettes during 1847. In 1899 Illinois "established the first statewide court for children". During the 1900s' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (d1) The National Crime Victimization Survey states that nearly two point seven million violent crimes take place each year, on school campus, or near school campus. Most children and teens are left home alone and unattended after school between three and seven pm. The current generation today are "latchkey children". When a child is left without adult supervision the child has the opportunity to get into trouble easier. Violent video games teach children to "kill or be killed".(b14) Modern entertainment allows youth to play games with cutting edge graphics and digital technology to enhance the realism of the game. When no parents are around to supervise the television it is not being monitored properly. The NIA has found that the ratings system is weak and parents are still complaining. Children see violence occurring in television, and also in movies. Movies depict scenes of violence whether it be , violent scenes, or violent action heroes. Some children do not understand reality vs. video game and movie fantasy. Problems and issues at home are commonly found when families suffer from family violence, divorce, drug abuse, poor income, unemployment, and illness. Bullies at school cause an impact on youth. Children and teens are harassed verbally and physically. Bullies usually suffer from a "delinquency case before age 13, low family income, poor school performance, psychomotor clumsiness, low non verbal IQ, sibling convicted of crime, ... Examples Of Stereotypes In The Breakfast Club Written and directed by John Hughes, The Breakfast Club is the first quintessential high school drama that has become one of the most significant regarding high school student images. As any typical high school stereotype, there is the jock, princess, geek, the basket case and of course, the bad boy, John Bender. The focus of the movie's characters is these five students, but Bender is the most outshining character of all. It is no doubt that the point of this movie is to prove that everyone may be different in their own way, but successfully convey that each of them have the same problem in common; contempt for the adult society and mostly image. Usually a jock and a princess befriending a geek, the social outcast and the bad boy, would not only be socially unacceptable, but would also be highly unlikely. Yet again, Bender manages to crush this barricade down. Although the friendship may have been forced at first, but what brought them together? He drives the characters over the edge. Without Bender being part of detention, the movie will have gone with the four characters just greeting each other, or not, and doing what they are told to do. As an emotionally wounded teenager, who is just blowing off some steam, his aggressive attitude creates a tension between their supervisor, turns a publicly opened room into a private one, initiates the arguments, sends each of the characters high on marijuana and eventually creates a domino effect of brutal honesty. On the surface, this looks as if it takes a turn for the worse; on the contrary, it provided an opportunity for all the characters to vent to each other while forgetting about their social category. Hughes succeeds in being able to perfectly mimic what goes on in the minds of teenagers. The intense scene when all five of them gather in a circle, and pour their hearts out to one another, for example, Bender feeling offended when Claire compares her life to his. Mean Girls Research Paper Ian Cumagun Jr. Professor Fox Sociology I July 30, 2015 Mean Girls Cady Heron is a 16 year old teenager who moved to a small town in Chicago where she also attended Northshore High School. She was homeschooled by her parents and they also stayed in Africa for about 12 years because of her parents job but since her mom got an offer in Chicago they have to move back. Since it was her first time going to a mainstream school, it was really hard for her to adapt especially her age. It would also be her first time dealing with a lot of social rules that many teenage girls deal with today. Her first friends that she met at this new school are pretty much complete outcasts, Janice Ian Dyke and Damien, later on she finds herself crossing paths with the three most popular girls in the school called, The Plastics. Regina George who's "The Queen Bee" of the group, leading this group of 3 girls, tries to make Cady be apart of this clique by introducing her to their crazy rules and luxury lifestyles. Even though in modern high schools popularity come in a factor but is not really a mainstream. I don't think that is truly desirable in a lot of schools. When the fight broke up in North Shore High between all the junior girls, compares to modern high school if something like that happened, I don't think that it would've been gotten crazy like in the movie nor handled calmly. The antagonist, John Bender, is the symbol to breaking the idea of stereotypical image amongst society. Bender takes the first initiative to annihilate his misunderstood "bad boy" image, he reveals that every teenage is fears the idea of being honest, uses his so called "image" to break down the barricade for a potential relationship and sparks a friendship deemed impossible. All this is broken down by Bender admitting the misconception of his image. "And these children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds are immune to your consultations. • 17. My Trip To Doylestown The following is 100% true. It happened a while ago, but I'll do my best to put everything in as much detail as I can remmeber. It's a story of the funniest thing that ever happened to me. I believe I was 19 years old. My best friend Nick was 17 at the time. One day we took a trip out to Doylestown, PA. The main reason for this was to go to the comic book store in town – Cyborg One Comics. Obviously this was back when I was still collecting comics. Nick had told me that the store was one of the best in the area, so on one weekend (I don't remember if it was Satorday or Sunday) we took a trip up there. I couldn't tell you today what book I bought from there. I was never one for statues or other memorabilia but, I know that I bought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only Wendy's in Doylestown is on Main Street. At the time, the Wendy's wasn't an overly large building. We go inside and order lunch. Minor details escape me in this story. I can tell you that what I remember next is something that I affectionately call "The Wendy's Incident". I don't remember what we had for lunch, how many people were in the dining room or even what time it was. What I do remember makes me break out in laughter even today and it's something that I occassionally try to recreate (to a degree). During lunch, I felt a burp coming on. I let loose with it and took my hands and pushed on my stomach as the burp happened. The issue with this is that the burp kept coming and the volume seemed to increase exponentially with the length of the burp. All I can remember is that the burp was almost inhuman and at the time, the crew was in the back of the restaruant in the kitchen. If you're ever seen the movie Revenge of the Nerds II, think of the scene where Booger meets Snotty and Snotty burps and shatters the mirror in his room. This was one of those ... • 21. The Theory Of Natural Selection Life is evolution. Humans continuously try to keep up with the latest trends in an attempt to remain relevant in society. In the past ten years, humans have evolved immensely with the introduction, development, and integration of technology into their culture. Virtually everything can be found on the internet. Pictures and documents are being shared through cloud storage rather than being shared directly with a physical document, and doing homework online is now the norm. People have adapted to the new age, and those who have not adapted are being left behind––this is where the theory of natural selection meets modern cognitive science. Steven Pinker, the author of How The Mind Works, argues that the concept of natural selection is not as linear as society may think it is with today's information. There is more to evolution than straightforward "survival of the fittest". Using his background knowledge in cognitive science and the social sciences, Pinker links the biological approach to evolution with his cognitive science approach in an attempt to generate a new perspective to the theory of evolution. Steven Pinker supports his claim that the concept of natural selection is more than a simple biological adaptation, but rather a combination between biological adaptation and an adaptation to the "cognitive niche", with historical observations, analogical evidence, and exploitation of archaeological evidence. Throughout "Revenge of the Nerds", Steven Pinker uses historical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In what ways do Student Academic Clubs and Student Organizations in college help students fit in, to achieve a sense of belonging? There are many ways student academic clubs and student organizations help with a sense of belonging in an academic setting. On the North Idaho College campus in Coeur d 'Alene, Idaho we have English club with the mission statement through North Idaho College "The North Idaho English Club is a group of intellectual individuals who strive to provide the North Idaho College with literary insight and events". The N.I.C has Philosophy Club their mission statement "Our mission is to provide aspiring intellectuals on and off campus with a constructive environment in which to learn and grow together". These are just a few of the North Idaho College Academic Clubs, there are many to choose from. It depends on where the student feels a liking to or a sense of belonging, a connection. Kimberly F. Case is part of Center for Intercultural Teaching & Learning, Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana talks about "Participating in campus clubs and organizations is one way for students to become purposefully involved in their educational experience. As students participate in these groups, they can expect to experience gains in a variety of areas: cognitive skills (Gellin, 2003); self–confidence and interpersonal skills (Huang & Chang, 2004); a variety of developmental ... Next to his older brother, Tadashi, Hiro's closest companion is Baymax, a robot whose sole purpose is to take care of people. When a devastating turn of events throws Hiro into the middle of a dangerous plot, he transforms Baymax and his other friends, Go Go Tamago, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Fred into a band of high–tech heroes. All of them fight to beat the masked man from taking over the entire world. Some majors themes in the movie are friendship, anger, and creativity. He gets mad at Callaghan for what happened to his brother and feels the need to seek revenge on him. His friends encourage him not to kill Callaghan because of what happened to his brother. Listening to his friends, Hiro does not kill Callaghan and it turns out to be a great decision that he made. This theme in this movie is relevant today because many people often feel the need to seek revenge if something bad was inflicted upon them. For example, when my brother punched me in the stomach randomly just to inflict harm on me, I felt the natural want to punch him back for what he has done. In hindsight, it is not good to seek revenge because it just made the situation worse, both sides wounded after the brawl. While many may believe that seeking revenge is the way to settle disputes, in many cases, people tend to end up getting hurt like I did myself. Another moral in the story is friends and family help each other. After the event that happened to his brother, his family and friends helped comfort him. Baymax, his personal healthcare robot, diagnoses Hiro and finds out that his emotional health is low, so it prescribes Hiro with support from his family and friends. Regina feels as if because she has a lot of money and the freedom to do whatever she wants, that she can take advantage of other people who she feels are less than her because of their social status as a "nerd" or "unpopular". During this scene, a critical part in the movie is brought to attention. "The Burn Book" which is a book that "the plastics" have put together that features pictures of all the people at their school that they don't like and/or want to get revenge on. Next to their pictures are nasty comments about them, which later backfires after Regina is excluded from "the plastics" and decides to take Karen, Gretchen, Cady socially down with her by turning "The Burn Book" into the principal's office. Once she speaks to the principal, she explain how she had nothing to do with "The Burn Book" and how Karen, Cady, and Gretchen are the sole creators of the book because they're the only ones who aren't in it. Regina then copies all of the pages in "The Burn Book", handing out the papers around school so everyone can see the lies and rumors spread about them. This film created controversies in the content that it delivered. The credibility of adolescents is questioned greatly in this film. Mean Girls taught us that popularity isn't all it's cracked up to be, in fact, they taught us that it's actually meaningless. Through extreme character development, this movie shows the viewer that at the end of the day, all of the teens are the same. They all struggle to fit in, and that's really the moral of this hilarious, but raunchy story. The vulgar jokes, some of the content matter, and some of the strives that Cady makes to seem popular are wince–worthy moments every single time. (Mark Waters, 2004) This movie is a comedy full of memorable quotes, witty characters that some can relate with, and a lot of laughs but realistic plot line, but what some people do not know is that some of the actions from the "Plastics" can ruin their reputation and life choices.Mean Girls is about a girl named Cady that has been home schooled in Africa all her life and is now attending a public school for the first time, where she runs into the "Plastics." If you picture an image of the "popular" kids, you quickly realize that they have power but are not all liked so well by many kids and teachers. Relational aggression – subtle and indirect aggression that involves gossiping about and ignoring or excluding others. (Page457) Indirect aggression such as gossiping about and ignoring others, even presumed friends, although boys engage in more direct aggression than girls, girls tend to engage in more relational aggression, at least in adolescence (Smith & Rose, & Schwartz–Mette, 2010). From the 1970s to the present they have been represented through movies, TV shows and live–events; such as, Comic–con. They have predominantly been depicted as featuring characteristics in which other individuals usually stray from in order to better fit in with society; for example, wearing braces, dorky glasses, geeky hair cut, and usual nerd attire. Furthermore, nerds have been depicted in popular media as individuals who lack popularity and possess an above average intelligence. The character of Steve Urkel is a good representation of nerds in popular media because he displays almost all of the nerdy characteristics such as the nerdy glasses and clothing. Furthermore, ... Popular culture has adapted and appropriated nerd culture. Super–hero movies, and television have taken nerd culture into a status were it is the popular culture. The Big Bang Theory is a prime example of nerd culture being appropriated by pop media. The actors in the show play nerds when they are not necessarily ones, and they popularize the culture in which they are appropriating. A similar situation would be Weird Al' Yankovic; he is a musician who parodies music by popular artists and makes the original music into something comical. This is apparent by the music video White & Nerdy in which he is appropriating nerds and their culture. Influences such as these have caused the popularity of nerd culture to become a widespread phenomenon. The appropriation of nerd culture by modern mainstream culture has removed the negative appeal of nerd culture; thus, having a positive affect which nerd culture more enticing to individuals. Nerd culture has been predominant within the recent decades and such had gradually begun to receive a great following. This point is illustrated throughout Paper Towns by John Green as main character Quentin searches for his childhood friend Margo Roth Spiegelman. Throughout the novel, he has several life–changing revelations on both himself and those around him. The characterization and misconceptions between main characters Margo and Quentin represent the deeper ideal that a person's true self is hidden from the world. In the novel, every one of the characters have a different view of Margo; some consider her to be the popular chick, or the mysterious lone wolf. Quentin sees her as something akin to a goddess, almost obsessing over her in his search. To Margo, the town that she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These views are further solidified when Margo takes Quentin out on a night of revenge and crime, with that assurance that "The cops could charge us with breaking, and they could charge us with entering, but they could not charge us with breaking or entering" (Green 40). This is just one of many demonstrations of Margo's otherness. In spite of this, as the novel progresses and the characters begin to flesh out, Quentin gains more depth as a person and other characteristics are seen of him that were not noticed before. Conversely, Margo is dissected further, as her character and being is picked apart and shown to have been not quite what she seemed. At the very end of the novel, Margo reveals that, to her, Quentin had simply been a storybook character, "fearless and heroic and willing to die to protect me" (Green 175). some sort of dashing prince to fit with her own spoiled self. A real life example of the strife between the two men, is the Prep vs. La Salle tug–of–war. Just like how the resentment between the Miller and the Reeve is not just some normal disagreement. Margo needed: Vaseline, six–pack Mountain Dew, one dozen Tulips, one bottle of water, tissues, and one can of blue spray paint. The reason Margo needed that stuff was because she was trying to get revenge on her friends and ex–boyfriend. Why?, Because he was cheating on her with another girl and her friends knew all along and they didn't even think of telling Margo that he was cheating on her. I think the theme of this book is, to get revenge on people for not telling you bad things so later on they won't hurt you, like in this case Margo's ex–boyfriend. I think this is the theme because if Margo's friends have told her sooner, she wouldn't of been doing this to all her friends and her ex– boyfriend. The conflict is mostly Man Vs. Society like as Quentin tries to solve the clues she left and finding her. It's also Man Vs. Society as Quentin is trying to find Margo because she disappeared and he feels guilty. These four traits are vision, group living, use of hands, and hunting. Pinker provides each trait with several reasons and factual evidence, including a chart, on its contributions to casual reasoning. Pinker believes the last main contribution was hunting. His main reason for this claim is the nutrients that hunting provides. Pinker mentions evidence to this statement by stating all of the advantages to eating meat, including that this pure protein contains amino acids, energy–rich fat, and dispensable fatty acids, as well as stating how the act of hunting requires a lot of skill which helps with brain development. So what reasons wouldn't give us the mind set of trusting someone that's experienced the high school life? This is why his ethos is so important in opposing the other side. He also uses pathos very well through the columbine shooting."The enemy is other teens and the social system that they impose on one another." The teens that impose such a system are the ones that were named in this essay. And this system is imposed through insults. But one can only take so much, and that is what happened in the Columbine shooting. These "gothic" kids were under attack by the popular group, and pushed them to the edge to where they believe that doing such cruel acts could somehow with the satisfaction of revenge. It is horrifying to realize that teens are so heartless, but that is what has happened. This is not only emotionally effective to the reader, but also logically. This movie argues that violence is not something natural but rather a learned behavior, we must be "reprogrammed" to accept it. The rest of the film reinforces the idea of the characters to find ways to stop the villain without using violence. The best of the villains are the ones who believe that what they are doing is a just cause. In "Big Hero 6", the masked man's motive for having stolen Hiro's microbots is understandable: he needs them to save a life. It is also a time of increased freedom, where students learn more about themselves and who they are as people. The main character Chris Brander was an evolving character he went through some pretty big changes both mentally and physically. As the movie starts, Chris is seen as this overweight, unpopular nerd in high school. He is in love with his best friend Jamie Palamino, a popular girl, who has officially "Friend Zoned" him. Being Friend Zoned is the one thing every guy on the face of the earth dreads. Once in the Friend Zone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chris leaves his hometown with the intent of never returning. He mistakenly returns a decade later as a different person. This is surprisingly normal in real life; people leave home after high school and go through some life altering change while away. They return and sometimes the people they return to are happy with the change, and then they may not like the change they see. Chris returns as a fit and slim womanizer who is arrogant and rude. Guys are not born jerks and womanizers they turn into them, because of their experience with girls. They start off as nice little boys who likes the girl who only likes the Jerk who pulls her hair. Chris turns into the jerk who pulls the girls hair because he thinks that is guy that Jamie wants. This notion is based on the guys she dated in high school not the guys she dates ten years ... The Breakfast Club, directed by John Hughes and released in 1985 and Elephant, directed by Gus Van Sant and winner of the Palme d'Or in 2003 are two teen movies taking place in this universe (IMDb). The first one tells the story of five high school students that spend a Saturday together in detention and end up realising that they have more in common than they imagined (IMDb). The second one follows the routine of different students in their high shcool in Portland while two others prepare a shooting to get revenge from years of bullying and marginalization (IMDb). Some people would say that it's better to make fun of people who do bad things rather than the ones who are trying to accomplish great things. Joseph Addison states "If the talent of ridicule were employed to laugh men out of vice and folly, it might be of some use to the world; but instead of this, we find that it is generally made use of to laugh at men out of virtue and good sense, by attacking everything that is solemn and serious, decent and praiseworthy in human life." I partially agree with Addison's statement because ridiculing someone for their positive actions can persuade them to stop doing them and become insecure. I disagree with this statement because making fun of jerks and bullies won't make them stop, and intelligent peoples with good ideas should be determined no matter what. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In many high schools, students that try to achieve are often laughed at because it's not the "cool" thing to do. High school students have to become so accustomed to putting down the "nerds" and over–achievers that only a handful of them remain in each grade. By putting down these students, it has swayed them towards the back of the crowd instead of leading it and being a good example. This results in grades being lower because the intelligent students aren't leading by example anymore so no one has any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kids crunching through as many leaves as possible, a pumpkin spice latte in one hand, and their iPhone in the other. It's 8:30 and first period starts. "Ashley Jameson, your phone is mine, you can come pick it up at the end of the day. This is the third time it's happened in the last week." said Professor Hugh. "WHATEVER, fine" replied Ashley, sassily. "Yeah, Ashley" said Dylan, in a sarcastic tone, smirking. Consequently, Ashley rolled her eyes at Dylan, and made the walk of shame back to her seat. Soon, lunch came and students ran to get the best seats. The scent of testosterone, sweat, and packaged beef filled the air. The jocks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Ugh, WHATever, anyways, I'll invite him over. If he messes it up, it's your fault. Later that night, John went through with a plan. He knew exactly where Ashley lived, he knew what time her parents came home, he knew what time she walks her dog, and he knows what time to strike. The clock struck 3 P.M, and the Jameson household has no clue about a mischievous burglar that just got in. John had a major adrenaline rush at this point, he just broke in Ashley's room. "Ha, taking a couple notes really helped me out here in there." John said to himself, and he swiftly picked the lock into her room. The television show is based on the social lives of four friends who are professors, and socially classed as Nerds. It is presumptuous on first encounter that the show will present with all the similarities of the 80's hit movies "Revenge of the Nerds." In fact, their daily interactions mimic those fashioned as such. They exemplify "social awkwardness, sexual failure and mathematical intelligence," all characteristics of a nerd, discussed in a thesis done by Marina Kunert (p. 1). The lack of social skills, which often leads to clashes between them and other people, makes them very interesting people. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Penny being a part of Big Bang Theory brings common sense and social interaction into their otherwise, socially disconnected environment. The series starts with Penny, the attractive neighbor, moves in next to the nerds Leonard and Sheldon and immediately becomes a potential love interest for Leonard. Raj and Howard constantly struggle with girls but express the desire to be in a romantic relationship. However, they all seem to form a circle of friendship. Idealized images of relationships can create a more positive image about relationships (Kunert, p. 11). The link between two people can shift from being friends to being lovers and vice versa. On the Big Bang Theory, Leonard and Penny become friends first for a long time before becoming lovers. After breaking up they remain friends. Big Bang Theory has exceeded the expectations of many. It is definitely not what people thought it was going to be. The four main characters are not the average nerds. While all intelligent in their own right, their individual personalities are what defines the show. I believe this is how the show maintains its popularity. Although the very first season did not get great ratings, the show picked up and has become one of the highest–rated on television in the United ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personal Narrative: My Glucose There once was a time when when I had so much self doubt it could fill an entire ocean, it was the 4th grade, and it all started by a kid named Joe, Joe was the meanest kid in school, Joe wasn't just a kid he was like some super villain, and I guess in this particular story the superhero doesn't win. It was the first day of the 4th grade, I walked in as confident as ever, because of my brand new fire truck red cape and a blue rubber mask, as I walked into school Joe lll approached me and said "Hey stupid" so I responded with " how dare you think you can talk to a superhero like that" and this was about the time that I realized not to mess with joe, because later that day I would regret ever saying a word to him. Regina feels as if because she has a lot of money and the freedom to do whatever she wants, that she can take advantage of other people who she feels are less than her because of their social status as a "nerd" or "unpopular". This creates chaos throughout the social classes in the school, everyone ends up fighting (mostly the girls) and that's when everyone realizes that their mental representations of other people are just as shallow as the lies and rumors being spread about ... • 149. The Computational Theory Of Mind By Steven Pinker The computational theory of mind explains that our brains are made of information processors. Every part of brain–neuron's axon and molecules, all these nerve cell's propose is to be an information carrier. The neurons are like sophisticated chips and with billion of neurons, you ended up with one powerful computational device, which is brain. Brain is one hunk of matter that is intelligent things that allows human beings to have cognitive equipment to processes of human perception, problem solving, and decision making. The "demons" is a system that contains a memory and reflexes. These demons are triggered by information and connected to sense. The mind is a product of natural selection and in that sense, the mind is our ancestor's past. Our ancestor's beliefs and desires are information, as part of our brain. The computational theory of mind allows us to keep this information (beliefs and desires) in our explanations of behavior. By doing this, the meaning ended up to cause and be cause. Steven Pinker believed that computational theory of mind came about through natural selection in order for our ancestors to solve and problems with the new conditions such as figuring out of how to defeat the plants' and animals' defenses before they counteract. The software that we inherited from our ancestor has ability of natural computation due to the goals and desires that are preprogrammed. Our minds are calculating the costs and benefits of decisions with our ancestor's past ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both books present the theme of identity and gender and individuality throughout their story. One similarity both of the books have is how the two characters in the books represent the holder of power, control, and the desire to have popularity and fame to make their lives worth living. In relation to the similarity, a difference that as well exists which is the hold of power in Great Gatsby is Jay Gatsby whereas the hold of power mainly in the book is Sandy Firestone.
