A Science Model Lesson Plan
Waves: (introduction)
Class:Preparatory two
Date:1 st/3 / 20 17 Duration: 45 minutes
Class profile:
40 boy students, ages13– 14. Their proficiency in the English Language is good but their scientific and general knowledge are
partial.
Time-table fit:
 In the previous lessons the SS learned about periodic motion and the oscillatory motion as a type of periodic motion, etc………
 In this lesson, they will learn about waves because of oscillatory motion .And how the wave can transfer energy through matter
or spacefrom one location to another. In addition, waves types.
 In the following lessons, the SS will learn more about wave's properties.
Measurable Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, the SS should be able to:
 Use necessary lab tools to Investigate that waves transmit energy, not matter, through disturbances or vibrations
(Cognitive domain 4: analyze)
 Classifythe waves depending on their characteristic as. (Cognitive domain 4: analyze)
 Distinguish Between longitudinal and transverse waves. (cognitive domain 2: understand)
 Appreciate the value of cooperative and team work.(affective domain)

Anticipated problems:
Academic:
1. SS may not remember or understand the background information needed for the lesson.
Solution: Remind & clarify during the leaden and recycling stage.
2. SS may find carrying out the investigations difficult.
Solution: Demonstrate and monitor (giving guidance when necessary).
Disciplinary:
3. SS may become too noisy and hurt themselves in the class.
Solution: Alert to follow instructions and rules & Keep a careful eye on the naughty SS and away them from Each other.
Materials and Visual Aids:
 Lesson plan notebook, White board markers, laptop, (Data show),
 Laboratory tools and objects: spiral slinky, Tuning fork.

T: a joke related to the lesson.
Teacher shows a photo for jelly. In addition, ask who
loves jelly.
T: yesterday I felt thirsty then I went to the fridge to drink
but I found the jelly oscillate vibrate very hard and very
disturbance
I said to jelly "do not be afraid I am just come to drink not
to eat you"… it is a joke laugh. Laugh. Laugh.

Focus SS minds
on the lesson ahead
T: You got one minutes to share with someone beside/
behind you About waves in the life. Give for examples
T: discus SS answer and show a slide that ended by: we
leave in world of waves.
World of Waves
There are lots of waves all around us in everyday
life.
You can drop a rock into a pond and see waves form
in the water( water waves).
Sound is a type of wave that moves through matter
and then vibrates our eardrums so we can hear.
Light is a special kind of wave that is made up of
photons that helps us to see.
We even use waves (microwaves) to cook our food
really fast.

to Investigate that waves
transmit energy, not matter,
through disturbances or
vibrations. And Classify
the waves depending on
their characteristic as.
 The SS will do an activity with teacher's help to
conclude a definition for waves.
 scientists use to classify waves into various categories
T: we can classifiy waves acoroding to oscillation
direction to energy travel direction into two types :let we
investigate them throughthis activity and this flash:
While you see the flash T ask SS todiscribe the direction
of the oscillation to the enrgy travel direction
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubRlaCCQfDk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtlxBODxWHc
 And we can classifiy waves acoroding to the ability of
wave to transfer through spaceand matter
Some waves require a medium to transfer through it
We call it mechanical waves. If a wave can travel without
a medium, (for example, through space), we call it an
electromagnetic waves.

Lesson plan for the wave's lesson

  • 1. Page - 1 - of 9 A Science Model Lesson Plan Waves: (introduction) Class:Preparatory two Date:1 st/3 / 20 17 Duration: 45 minutes Class profile: 40 boy students, ages13– 14. Their proficiency in the English Language is good but their scientific and general knowledge are partial. Time-table fit:  In the previous lessons the SS learned about periodic motion and the oscillatory motion as a type of periodic motion, etc………  In this lesson, they will learn about waves because of oscillatory motion .And how the wave can transfer energy through matter or spacefrom one location to another. In addition, waves types.  In the following lessons, the SS will learn more about wave's properties. Measurable Objectives: By the end of this lesson, the SS should be able to:  Use necessary lab tools to Investigate that waves transmit energy, not matter, through disturbances or vibrations (Cognitive domain 4: analyze)  Classifythe waves depending on their characteristic as. (Cognitive domain 4: analyze)  Distinguish Between longitudinal and transverse waves. (cognitive domain 2: understand)  Appreciate the value of cooperative and team work.(affective domain)
  • 2. Page - 2 - of 9 Anticipated problems: Academic: 1. SS may not remember or understand the background information needed for the lesson. Solution: Remind & clarify during the leaden and recycling stage. 2. SS may find carrying out the investigations difficult. Solution: Demonstrate and monitor (giving guidance when necessary). Disciplinary: 3. SS may become too noisy and hurt themselves in the class. Solution: Alert to follow instructions and rules & Keep a careful eye on the naughty SS and away them from Each other. Materials and Visual Aids:  Lesson plan notebook, White board markers, laptop, (Data show),  Laboratory tools and objects: spiral slinky, Tuning fork.
  • 3. Page - 3 - of 9 Outline of the lessonstages: Stage Aim Procedure Students' interaction Time warmer reduce tension& capture the students attention to the new lesson Greetings T: a joke related to the lesson. Teacher shows a photo for jelly. In addition, ask who loves jelly. T: yesterday I felt thirsty then I went to the fridge to drink but I found the jelly oscillate vibrate very hard and very disturbance I said to jelly "do not be afraid I am just come to drink not to eat you"… it is a joke laugh. Laugh. Laugh. T↔SS Friendly dialogue 2 minutes Recycling To make sure that SS have the needed background knowledge(recapping)  Before we start our lesson let, we do a small revision.  What is energy?  Can we do work or make a change without energy?  How can we transfer energy from one location to another?  Our lesson today about waves  Showing the slide of objectives T↔ SS T elicits& SS guess 3 minutes
  • 4. Page - 4 - of 9 Stage Aim Procedure Students' interaction Time objectives  By the end of the lesson students will be able to:  Use necessary lab tools to Investigate that waves transmit energy, not matter, through disturbances or vibrations (Cognitive domain 4: analyze)  Classify waves the depending on their characteristic as. (Cognitive domain 4: analyze)  Distinguish Between longitudinal and transverse waves. (cognitive domain 2: understand)  Use the internet to write an essay (1-2 pages) about the value of waves in our life (Cognitive domain6: create).  Appreciate the value of cooperative and team work.(affective domain Lead-in Focus SS minds on the lesson ahead T: You got one minutes to share with someone beside/ behind you About waves in the life. Give for examples T: discus SS answer and show a slide that ended by: we leave in world of waves. World of Waves There are lots of waves all around us in everyday life. You can drop a rock into a pond and see waves form in the water( water waves). Sound is a type of wave that moves through matter and then vibrates our eardrums so we can hear. Light is a special kind of wave that is made up of photons that helps us to see. We even use waves (microwaves) to cook our food really fast. 4 T↔ SS T elicits & SS guess 3 minutes
  • 5. Page - 5 - of 9 Stage Aim Procedure Students' interaction Time Presentation stage: Wave definition& types to Investigate that waves transmit energy, not matter, through disturbances or vibrations. And Classify the waves depending on their characteristic as.  The SS will do an activity with teacher's help to conclude a definition for waves.  scientists use to classify waves into various categories T: we can classifiy waves acoroding to oscillation direction to energy travel direction into two types :let we investigate them throughthis activity and this flash: While you see the flash T ask SS todiscribe the direction of the oscillation to the enrgy travel direction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubRlaCCQfDk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtlxBODxWHc  And we can classifiy waves acoroding to the ability of wave to transfer through spaceand matter Some waves require a medium to transfer through it We call it mechanical waves. If a wave can travel without a medium, (for example, through space), we call it an electromagnetic waves. T↔ SS T elicits& SS guess 15 munities Concept checking To check that SS understood 1. Waves are simply different means for transferring energy. Is that true? 2. Waves created when a source of energy causes a medium to expand. True or false? T ↔ SS T checks & SS respond 5 munities
  • 6. Page - 6 - of 9 Stage Aim Procedure Students' interaction Time 3. Why? 4. Waves carry matter with it. Yes or no? 5. Why? 6. How the particles of the medium are vibrate to the wave direction in the sound waves? 7. Transverse wave's Parts are compressionand rarefaction. True or false? 8. Why 9. Light needs matter to move. True or false? 10.Why? concluding To give SS material to refer to later T: Now let us put this in writing. T elicits the summary (show slide power point). T ↔SS T asks & SS answer 5 minutes Guided Production To make SS apply what they learned with T’s help T: Now It is time to apply what we are learned. It's quiz time(group working) S↔S SS work 7 minutes
  • 7. Page - 7 - of 9 Stage Aim Procedure Students' interaction Time & guidance T:Directions:  From the next slide answer the question  You are going to work in four teams of three students each.  Write T if the statement is true or F if the statement is false.  If the statement is false, change the underlined word to make it true. Write your changes on the lines provided. As the ex: 1- Morad is the tallest one in the class 2- Mohamed is the tallest one in the class 1- T 2- F (Morad ) Write your answers in one sheet for each group. We have 5 minutes to run the activity. T checks instructions,(T↔SS) T: start now 1. Mechanical waves are waves that move through matter or empty space. 2. Sound is a mechanical wave travels only through matter. 3. A wave in which the disturbance is perpendicular to the direction the wave travels is called a together
  • 8. Page - 8 - of 9 Stage Aim Procedure Students' interaction Time longitudinal wave. 4. X-ray an electromagnetic wave can travel through empty spaceor through matter. 5. Light is a wave, which the energy moves, perpendicular to the direction of the particle movement. 6. A wave in a rope consists of compressions and troughs. 7. transverse waves consistof a series of crests and rarefactions Less guided Production To make SS apply what they learned with minimum T guidance Work in Pairs to complete this work sheet. We have two minutes to finish our work. What is a wave? Describea difference between longitudinal and transversewaves. T↔SS discuss 5 minutes Unguided Production To give SS a home assessmentto make them relate between the previous lesson and the next lesson T:For the next session answer this question (your answer not more than one sheet Explain How we can differentiate between tow longitudinal waves or between tow transverse waves. In other words, how can we differentiate between two waves T →SS T writes & SS copy 2 minutes
