3. NC Digital Learning Plan
Questions to be Answered
• How does NC transition from funding for
textbooks to funding for digital material?
• How does NC provide educational resources
that remain current, that are aligned with
curriculum, and effective for all learners by
2017?
• What is the IT infrastructure needed to
support robust digital learning in public
schools? And what is the current state of
things?
4. The DL Plan IS…
• A plan that addresses State, District, school,
and classroom level requirements for an
effective digital learning transition
• An asset inventory/needs assessment
• A feasibility study
• Aligned with emerging E-Rate
modernization
• The first State defined model of its kind
• A deliverable to the NC SBE – and ultimately
the General Assembly - that will inform policy
and funding
5. What the DL plan IS NOT…
• A school-by-school implementation plan (yet)
• Simply a 1:1 tablet deployment plan
• Focused on a single district model
• A solution to rural broadband deficits
• Going to be a burdensome data collection
exercise for LEAs
• Going to be Implemented completely by 2017
