Addiction treatment problems are reaching even further out into society with new synthetic drugs that mimic marijuana, cocaine and many other

Many aspects contribute to an individual's ability to resist drug use and most importantly addiction, significantly fueling the debate whether it is nature
or nurture that is the primary consideration in understanding addiction (Crofton, Zhang, & Green, 2015). Addiction is a disease based on the ability of
drugs and their use to alter a person's brain and behavior whereby they compulsively seek drugs despite any other associated risk (Stanis& Andersen,
2014). Drug use is thought to alter the brain's dopamine surges where receptors for dopamine are reduced (Stanis& Andersen, 2014). However, despite
substantial research that supports addiction as a disease, controversy exists in that it is usually the individual who initially chooses to use drugs.
Numerous observers support that is this primary voluntary choice that makes it difficult for some to see drugs addicts as anything other than

Drug addiction is a crippling problem in the United States, and has the possibility of affecting every single person. May it be from someone in the
upper class, to a single mother who is living in poverty, this form of substance abuse is becoming more and more abundant in recent times.
Unfortunately, many people who have never dealt with or looked into substance abuse often blame the individual for what happened. The sociological
imagination, on the other hand, says otherwise. According to C Wright Mills' sociological imagination, private troubles, such as substance abuse, often
have a root in public issues of social structure. Sadly, the societal roots of many issues are not seen by others, causing the individual and their choices
to be seen as the cause of their problem. In turn, this view may support a punitive perspective against the person in question. In the case of Brittney
May, her drug addiction had started at a relatively young age, and as a result of it, she had ended up in prison. Although she has been released after her

Good education and sport resources can prevent youngsters to deviate wrong ways. Besides, government should clean school areas up from teasers,
because as Cahit Ozer said, youngsters and young adults are specifically at hazardous periods for drug abuse. To prohibit drug deals among

Narcotic production and distribution is not an easy to do. Dealers need to be organize, arm, money and a power to protect them and monopoly the

Drug abuse cases heartache and pain to many families. My brother lied, stole, and deceived me many times to get high. To this day he would still
say he does not have a drug problem. My brother is in a state, known as denial. Denial is a common defense mechanism that everyone uses to some
degree. It is an automatic response to avoid something uncomfortable. The kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar will say, when confronted,
something like, "I was just seeing if any cookies were left" or "No, my hand wasn 't in the cookie jar." Snap answers are a way to avoid admitting

There is a contradiction within each person who has a drug addiction. The drug is helping and yet destroying the person at the same time. It helps by
being a coping mechanism that takes emotional and sometimes physical pain away for the individual. It destroys by causing the individual harm. It
affects the brain and the heart and over time can harm the kidneys and liver. It hurts relationships with family and friends. Drug addiction is a form of
self–harm that hurts internally more than externally.
Some of the most addictive substances are prescribed by doctors, usually for pain or for sleep. Children are being exposed to powerful stimulants to
manage ADHD and this has led to many kids trying other illegal substances when they get too old to take Ritalin or Adderall and the doctor stops
prescribing it. According to Psychology Today, "Addiction is a condition that results when a person ingests a substance (e.g., alcohol, cocaine, nicotine)
or engages in an activity (e.g., gambling, sex, shopping) that can be pleasurable but the continuation of which becomes compulsive and interferes with

It is an obvious assumption that drugs have an effect on the mind, but what exactly goes on and how do these substances affect your brain and change

Pain Pills are a very common drug that is used in society these days. Most pain pill drug addictions are long term. A long termdrug addiction can put a

Drug addiction and drug addicts are everywhere. We always see and hear on the news that people on the streets get arrested for possession of drugs.
What we don't see or hear is the person's story of why they use these drugs, because they're immediately charged with possession of illegal substances
and taken to jail. There are some people that deserve to go to jail for possession of drugs. Most of the people who use drugs use it for personal
consumption and most of them are struggling with addiction. Sending a drug addict to jail isn't going to help him/her because as soon as they serve
their time behind bars, the first thing they're going to do is seek the drug again. It's a process that is bound to repeat itself. Drug addicts should be
sent to rehab, some place where they can get help to become sober and detoxed. Every addict has a reason for using drugs, most of them use drugs
to deal with a problem at home, to relieve pain or to feel better because of depression. Maybe they just did them for fun at first but soon found
themselves addicted. All they need is help, they need to be sent to rehab so they can find another way to deal with whatever they might be going

Of course it has negative things associated with it itself. Methadone is also addicting, so the person who is using it can easily abuse it. If methadone
is used as prescribed, it does not create that high feeling and there is not a possibility of the person becoming addicted to it. The person using
methadone would have to take higher dosages purposely than suggested, they would get a high feeling, and just like their original drug addiction to
opiates, they could then become addicted to methadone.
