Institutional research into the Romantic Comedy genre in 2013.

2.  Comedy accounted for the highest
proportion of releases (22%) and took 14% of
the box office. The top earning comedy was
“The hangover part III”.
 153 comedy films were released in this period
and 34 Romance films were also released.

3.  £158.2 million – Gross box office (Comedy)
 £13.9 million – Gross box office (Romance)
 Romantic-Comedies are one of the most
profitable in the industry.
 The most profitable Romantic Comedy is “My
Big Fat Greek wedding” having a total USA
Gross of $241,438,208.

4.  “The hangover Part III” had the largest above
average audience share which shows that it
appealed to several different age groups. Many
comedy films were popular with men in the year
of 2013 in reference to “The Hangover Part III.”
 “About time” a UK film had the most west and
south west total audience with 6%.
 Titanic (Romance) is the top highest grossing
film in the UK box office in even though it was
released in 1998 and re-released in 2012.

5.  The average number of views at the widest
point of release for comedy was 102 and for
Romance was 59.
 268 of all UK and Republic of Ireland releases
were classified as rated 15. 225 releases were
classified as 12/12A.

6.  I will need to target my film at the right
audiences for example 12/12A or 15 as an age
classification.
 Analyse the wants and needs of my target
audience to find out exactly what they like in
a film.
 I will also need to incorporate certain themes
into my film which produce laughter.
