1. Parts Of Speech
The words in English Language are grouped into parts of speech according to their meanings and their
functions. There are eight parts of speech.
1. Noun
Noun is a word that used as the name of anything such as person, animal, object, place, situation, quality
or idea.
Example :
- Take your book, please !
- I met a man yesterday.
- They saw tiger in the zoo.
2. Pronoun
Pronoun is a word that used as a substitute for a noun.
Example :
- He is my friend.
- This is my car.
- What must we do now ?
3. Verb
Verb is a word that tells of an action or state of being and the time of when it is.
Example :
- Alvian studies Grammar.
- We are walking to the school.
- They looked so tired.
4. Adjective
Adjective is a word that qualifies a noun or pronoun by describing it.
Example :
- Harun is a diligent boy.
- Rahman has two books.
- We study English lesson.

Adverb is a word that modifies or describes a verb, adjective or another adverb.
Example :
- Ali runs quickly.
- He speaks English well.
- They walk slowly.
6. Preposition
Preposition is a word that put before a noun or pronoun to show its relationship to some other words in a
sentence.
Example :
- I cut meat with knife.
- She goes to cafeteria.
- The book is on the table.
7. Conjunction
Conjunction is a word that used to connect one word to another word, or one sentence to another
sentence.
Example :
- Rudi and Ali came yesterday.
- She is intelligent but lazy.
- He is very handsome and smart.
8. Interjection
Interjection is an exclamatory word or phrase to express a sudden feeling of mind or emotion.
Example :
- Oh my god, save me !
- Well, you must go now !
- Oh, look at the time !
