The students are expected to:
• state Newton’s first law of motion and
explain what it means
relate inertia to mass
• cite situations where the law of inertia
applies.
• Perform the activity..
• 1. Place the paper on the edge of a table
or countertop with most of the paper off
the surface.
• 2. Stack the washers on top of the paper.
• Perform the activity..
• 3. Hold onto the loose edge of the paper
and quickly pull down on the paper.
• 4. Observe what happens to the stack of
washers.
•What comes to your
mind when you hear
the word “Inertia”?
• Who is Sir Isaac Newton?
• What is he most known for?
Activity 2 on inertia. The
Egg Drop challenge
•
Activity 2 on inertia. The Egg Drop challenge
Activity 2 on inertia
• The Egg Drop Challenge
• Relate the activity to
Newton’s first law of motion
and present it in the class.
• picture scenario
• Two children playing
soccer. One child
has kicked a soccer
ball toward the goal.
• The other child is
attempting to block
the goal.
Soccer Game
• 1.Write an explanation of how
Newton’s first law of motion is
being described or illustrated
by the soccer player kicking
the soccer ball.
• What puts objects into motion?
• How do they stop?
• What if there was never a force
that stopped the object from
moving?
• Why seatbelts, headrests, and
airbags in automobiles are vitally
important?
• Create a poster illustrating
first Newton’s Laws of Motion.
Give a copy of the rubric
before beginning the project.
Present poster to the class
next meeting.

Editor's Notes

  1. If you pulled quickly enough, the stack of washers will stay stacked on the table. The coins are at rest on top of the table or countertop. When the paper is quickly pulled out from underneath them, they try to stay put. Ask each group to present their observation to the class.
  2. Inform the learners that today they are all going to learn about Newton’s first law of motion: an object at rest will stay at rest unless acted on by an outside force. -Ask students for their definition of inertia.
  3. After the activity, the teacher will discuss briefly some of his significant contributions especially in the field of Physics. -Who is Sir Isaac Newton? -What is he most known for? After introducing Sir Isaac Newton the teacher will begin the lesson by informing the students that although there are three laws of motion this lesson will only focus on the first.
  4. Ask the students to performed Activity 1 by group. Investigating Inertia which demonstrates how the inertia of an object affects its motion. p.11 Learner’s module.   Ask each group to present their output in front of the class.
  5. Teachers write the following questions on the board and ask students to copy and answer the questions in their notebooks:
