Tools of Research
TOOLS OF RESEARCH
* Research Tool – is a specific mechanism or strategy the researcher uses to collect, manipulate, or
interpret data. * Research Methodology – is the general approach the researcher takes in carrying
out the research project, to some extent, this approach dictates the particular tools that the researcher
selects.
THE SIX GENERAL TOOLS OF RESEARCH 1. The library and its resources
For thousands of years, the library served primarily as a repository of books and manuscripts. It was,
for the most part, only a slowly expanding universe of knowledge, one that could be comfortably
contained within masonry walls.
In the 20th century, the role of the library changed. An explosion of information occurred. Research
altered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, 40° C does not represent a temperature which has twice the heat of 20° C because the
zero on the Celsius scale is arbitrary, and does not represent an absence of heat. However, when we
consider the metric system for temperature (known as 'degrees Kelvin'), then there is a true zero
(called 'absolute zero'). Therefore, a measure of 40K (i.e. 40 degrees Kelvin) is twice as hot as 20K.
STATISTICAL PROBABILITY OF THE SCALE * Nominal Scale – enables one to determine the
mode, the percentage values, or the chi–square. * Ordinal Scale – enables one also to determine the
median, percentile rank, and rank correlation. * Interval Scale – enables one also to determine the
mean, standard deviation, and product moment correlation. * Ratio Scale – enables one also to
determine the geometric mean and percentage variation.
* VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY OF MEASUREMENT
Validity – the validity of a measurement instrument is the extent to which the instrument measures
what it is supposed to measure.
Reliability – is the consistency with which a measuring instrument yields a certain result when the
entity being measured hasn't changed. To apply these concepts to social research, we want to use
measurement tools that are both reliable and valid. We want questions that yield consistent
responses when asked multiple times – this is reliability. Similarly, we want questions that get
accurate responses from respondents – this is validity.

The Mayers Policy Analysis Model
The United States is one of the wealthiest nations in the world, yet due to many disparities in its
primary and secondary school system, it lags behind many of its economic peers, educationally. In
1983, the National Commission on Excellence in Education (NCEE) was chartered to review and
synthesize the data and scholarly literature on the quality of learning and teaching in the United
States. The resulting NCEE report titled, "A Nation at Risk," showed alarming results and called for
great changes. For the United States to be competitive with other industrialized nations, it has had to
transform its educational system, and thus politicians have been trying to raise the bar through
various laws, policies and reforms, especially during the last ... Show more content on

According to the Organization for Economic Co–operation and Development (OECD): although the
investment in early childhood education in the United States is relatively high, enrollment rates for
3– and 4–year–olds is still considerably lower than other developed countries. "The United States
ranks 5th among OECD countries in expenditure per pre–primary student (USD $10,010) at this
level of education; only Australia, Denmark, Luxembourg and New Zealand spend more, while the
OECD average is USD $7,428" (OECD, 2014–2015). In the United States, there is a tendency for
children to enter early childhood education at age 4. "Only 66% of 4–year–olds were enrolled in
2012 (the OECD average was 84%), while all 4–year–olds in France and the Netherlands were
enrolled. Only 38% of 3–year–olds in the United States were enrolled in early childhood education
in 2012 (the OECD average was 70%)." (OECD, 2014–2015). In the United States, preschool is not
mandatory nor is it free or equally made available to all. In Europe, there is universal preschool,
which means that school starts at age 3, giving parents the opportunity to work without worrying
about paying childcare expenses

Agency Structure The purpose of this paper is to provide the functional federal budget
classifications for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Coast
Guard, and U.S. Secret Service and identify each agency as an executive department or independent
agency. Furthermore, provide the appropriate subcommittee for budget requests and give a brief

Congress commissioned the construction of ten vessels to collect tariffs, enforce trade laws, and

Action Plan for Reporting Waste and Abuse in the Air Force
In fiscal year 2014 it is very clear that there needs to be a better reporting of all of the materials that
are owned and are held by the Air Force. It is important to make sure that there is a complete
accounting of all of the materials such as parts, ammunition, and other items that belong to the air
force so that it will be possible to ensure that in any location there is no issue that the materials will
be in the hands of anyone else. The allocation is supposed to serve through departmental roles, with
the chiefs of each department consenting to any requested sub–budgetary allocation requested by the
service men and women in their departments. The offices include the operations office, the general
counsel's office, the information and communication office and the human resource office. All
actions that will be recommended for this case might not show specific dates, since the military
requires a series of approval steps for any implementation, and delays might occur. In addition, the
air force is sometimes caught up in emergency situation that lead to freezing operations for security
purposes. It also leads to delays and rechanneling of allocated budgets to the emergency situation.
The 2014 budget is used in this paper, since it has already been implemented, therefore researchable.

Top Three Trends in your profession and associated industry–Annotated Bibliography
The top three trends in the Cyber Security field are salary, career advancement, and the need for
predictions of the future in how information is exchanged.
Cyber–crimes are becoming more popular and because of the many attacks that are happening much
more frequently it has caused for a higher demand in cyber security professionals. Companies spend
millions of dollars to correct security breaches within their organization. Back in 2008 the salary
range for IT security professionals were in the $80,000 to $90,000 pay range per year, whereas in
surveys from 2014 it shows these professionals earning $100,000 or more a ... Show more content

Email propagation of malicious code is the most frequently used technique by cyber–attackers .
Executives state that the majority of cyber threats originate from China and that organizations are
conducting periodic review of systems and administrative logs, and adopted computer security
policies, to counter cyber–attacks over the next two years. This article supports my third trend on
predictions of the future in how information is exchanged.
Ben–Asher, N., & Gonzalez, C. (2015). Effects of cyber security knowledge on attack detection.
Computers in Human Behavior, 48, 51–61.
This study investigates how knowledge in network operations and information security influence the
detection of intrusions in a simple network. A Intrusion Detection System (IDS) was developed to
examine how individuals detect malicious events and declare an attack based on a sequence of
network events. The results indicate that more knowledge in cyber security facilitated the correct
detection of malicious events and decreased the false classification of benign events as malicious.
While knowledge of cyber security helps in the detection of malicious events, situated knowledge
regarding a specific network at hand is needed to make accurate detection decisions. Responses
from participants that have knowledge in cyber security indicated that they were able to distinguish
between different types of cyber–attacks, whereas novice participants were not sensitive to the
attack

History, Philosophy And Miscellaneous Works
Literature Review
Libraries have a long history towards the ancient world as places used to keep important records
such as clay tablets, transcripts and many texts. Many records were destroyed in the course of wars
or purposely by some rulers with the changes in government. As a result, writing of literature as well
as record keeping was encouraged where classification schemes were initiated to preserve those
records of all times. The first formal classification was categorizing the writings into four types, the
classics, history, philosophy and miscellaneous works. (Library, 2016). However, these broad
categories didn't help much in guiding to access the increasing collection. The result was,
introducing Dewey Decimal Classification as a scheme for the classification of the documents/
materials. (Library, 2016).
Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC)
DDC was an invention of Melvil Dewey in 1876. He was an Assistant Librarian at Amherst College
when he published DDC as "A Classification and subject index for cataloging and arranging the
books pamphlets of a library". (Yoon, J. 2014). The system was formulated to organize the contents
of the library based on the subject areas divided into 10 main groups where each group is given 100
numbers. For example, Religion belongs in 200 – 299. (DDC, 2016). This numerical classification
gives identification for the item as well as a location tool which ensures the books under the same
subject are kept together in a common area. (Wiercioch,

mascara running down her face. A guy with a mask showed up on the screen, and said: "If you want

located at the back of the library past the reference collection and near the microfilms. There were
so many cabinets that had all kinds of maps in them. He remembered that his history teacher might

time and looked at each one carefully, however, he still had no luck finding a map that had Palestine

started looking at every map in it, but he had no luck. Jude got so frustrated with himself; he took a

IV. Economic Benefits of Legalizing Marijuana
The Controlled Substances Act (CSA) places drugs according to its medical value, how harmful it
is, and how addicting is can be. Schedule I is for the most dangerous drugs that can't benefit a
person medically whatsoever, which is the current classification of marijuana. "The Budgetary
Implications of Marijuana Prohibition" by Jeffrey A. Miron, Visiting Professor of Economics,
Department of Economics, Harvard University, which was published in June, 2005 concludes
certain facts about marijuana. "Replacing marijuana prohibition with a system of legal regulation
would save approximately $7.7 billion in government expenditures on prohibition enforcement, $2.4
billion at the federal level and $5.3 billion at the state and local levels. Revenue from taxation of
marijuana sales would range from $2.4 billion per year if marijuana were taxed like ordinary
consumer goods to $6.2 billion if it were taxed like alcohol or tobacco. "
Just one year's savings would cover the full cost of anti–terrorism port security measures required.
Also, our government takes an excessive amount of money from our taxpayers for it; It's been
reported that enforcement of state and local marijuana laws annually costs US taxpayers an
estimated $7.6 billion. The prohibition hasn't given the intended results of people not associating
with it. Total US marijuana arrests increased 165% during the 1990s. California alone saves

outlined their reasoning behind changing their pejorative headings. "Alien" and "illegal alien". The
Public and Standards Division of the Library of Congress cited outcry from the immigrant
community, as one of their major reasons for their reevaluation. In response, on May 10, Tea Party

Legal terms try normalized the fluidness of language. Discontent arises when these terms are
perceived as to become hate speech. In the context of immigration terms such as "illegal aliens" are
metaphorical attempts to cognitively grasp social discourse surrounding immigration (Cunning Ham
2). The term "illegal alien" origin is quite complex. In Impossible Subjects, Mae Ngai explains that
the term is used to indicated one's origin in a legal context. Ngai finds that the use of term "alien" is
rooted in American law. Typically, the term "alien" refers to a person who is foreign to their current
geographic setting but, in the United States legal system, it indicates one's lack of citizenship (Ngai
X). Discussion and debates about immigration terms rise in the 1980's.
Systematic policies primed the political arena in the United States to pass the Immigration Act of
1924, which solidified the term "illegal aliens". That 1924 Act solidified the term "illegal aliens" by
outline means to criminalized these groups. The terms "illegal aliens/alien" are used to defined those

they erode American society. American society can historically be interpreted being white American
values and practice. They lack the ability to assimilate to "American society" (Ngai 57).

The constitutional answer to the aforementioned questions is no; the press has the ability and
freedom to publish and release whatever they see fit. However, lives are at risk. Through academic
and philosophical inquiry, it will be made clear that national security should be valued higher than
freedom of the press when the national security and the freedom of the press conflict. Before
delving into the reasons to value national security above the freedom of the press, it is first crucial to
provide a definition of national security. According to USLegal Definitions, national security is
defined as the following:
"National security is a corporate term covering both national defense and foreign relations of the
U.S. It refers to the protection of a nation from attack or other danger by holding adequate armed
forces and guarding state secrets. The term national security encompasses within it economic
security, monetary security, energy security, environmental security, military security, political

Part 2
The book, "Ceremonial songs of the Creek and Yuchi Indians" is unique because it fits comfortably
under classifications of history as well as music. For example, the provided Library of Congress
Classification number shows it categorized with folk music from the American Indians and the
Dewey Decimal Classification makes no reference to the musical aspect instead emphasizing the
ties to the Creek Indians. This is problematic because if someone is not aware of the full topic or
title and is seeking the book, they may disregard the music and be unable to locate the book in their
search. Retrieval requires solid metadata, especially in these instances where one subject or
classification is not enough to adequately describe the "aboutness" of the work. This is one argument
in favor of increasing the reach of the semantic web and Linked Data to alleviate some of these
problems. As seen in Part 1, achieving coextensivity is not easy when there can only be one DDC or
LCC call number, but multiple LCSH headings assigned.
Part 3 The assignments for this course were certainly eye–opening for someone who intends to do
cataloging and classifying work in the future. I naively assumed going in that there would be some

Mitochondria Are The Powerhouses Of Every Cell
Mitochondria are the powerhouses of every cell in our bodies. According to the United
Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, the mitochondrial produce most of the energy for the body
(United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation). When this process is interrupted or does not take place
then cellular damage begins to occur (United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation). Rolf Luft, Lars
Ernster, and Bjorn Afzelius are credited with the first diagnosis of mitochondrial disease via muscle
biopsy in 1962 (DiMauro, 2011). Succinctly, it is a "defect in the respiratory chain (DiMauro,
2011)". Since mitochondria are in every cell in the body, and cells are specialized to the organ
system to which they belong, the disease will manifest different symptoms in different individuals
based on the organ system(s) affected (United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation). Symptoms can
be present from every organ system, however, depending upon the actual genetic encoding affecting
the mitochondrial can determine which disease classification a patient may fall within (DiMauro,
2011), (United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation).
Once thought to be a rare genetic disorder, Allen and Dassler cite a prevalence of nearly one in
5,000 births in the United States (Dassler & Allen, 2014). DiMauro cites an even larger prevalence
of possibly one in 200 births ((Elliot et al. 2008) (DiMauro, 2011)). Nonetheless, it is still difficult to

Data Mining And Machine Learning

Nowadays, data mining and machine learning become rapidly growing topics in both industry and
academic areas. Companies, government laborites and top universities are all contributing in
knowledge discovery of pattern recognition, text categorization, data clustering, classification

perspectives and reveal the hidden gem behind the enormous amount of data. With the explosive
growth of data collections, it becomes time–consuming less effective to extract valuable information
from massive databases through the use of traditional data analysis methods. An alternative way to

Additionally, social networking website Facebook, stores approximately 40 billion photos in total.
("Data, data everywhere", 2010) Besides enormous data that generated from daily operational
company transactions and social networks, the price drop of the data storage is also a strong factor
triggering the fever of "Big Data". For example, Google Drive – a cloud based data storage service –
had a price drop of approximately 80% from March 2014. This price drop is considered a marketing
approach to attract more computer users to adopt Google's cloud service, which provides a more
convenient and efficient way to access and store daily–used files. Although emerge of enormous
data provides us opportunities to conduct further investigation and benchmarking, valuable
information are not fully extracted and the potential power of using "Big Data" is undermined. In
order to achieve thoroughly extraction of useful information from databases, many professionals in
the academic field devoted into the study of data analysis and identified two of the most important
drawbacks of traditional data analysis, which lacks of predictability and is less flexible in scalability.
For traditional data analysis, it may lose some more in depth information or interesting patterns from

teenagers and children in America. Statistics has shown that about two in every three adult in
America is Obese or over weight. The children and teenagers are not left out also; the obesity
prevalence is three times what it was in the previous years between 1970s and 2000 (Klegal, et al
2002). The occurrence of obesity has resulted in genetic, political, sociological and economic
consequences (Hong T., Glazer G., 2005). Several institutions have been implicated by the
government, for example, schools, family and genetics all play a part in the obesity epidemic.
Certain policy determination caused by urbanization and has reduced the number of individuals

formulated to support and encourage farmers and protect consumers from high priced agricultural
food prices has resulted in food excesses and overproduction (Hong T., Glazer G., 2005).
Technological advancement has reduced the number of workers that go to work daily and as such,
some people work from home in the twentieth century; this has further reduced the daily activities
performed by individuals (Hong T., Glazer G., 2005). Improvement in food processing and

Education
I am graduating with a B.A. from the University of Toronto on June 1st, 2016. I double–majored in
Criminology and Socio–Legal Studies and French Studies, two programs that have allowed me to
build on my research skills. Moreover, a Social Seminar in Social Institutions course that I took in
fourth year gave me the opportunity to conduct my own research on the topic of multiculturalism. I
am proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly in Word and Excel, as I use both programs for my
writing and for data entry respectively. My undergrad studies have also honed my organizational and
planning skills. Having taken a full course load every year, I worked under multiple, strict and tight
deadlines. I would have multiple midterms and assignments due in the same week. My excellent
organizational and planning skills have allowed me to work under such circumstances: I prioritized
the assignments that have an earlier due date, while ensuring that I plan the outline for the
assignments due at a later date. I have thus never missed a deadline thanks to my excellent planning
and organizational skills.
Furthermore, I have excellent verbal and written communication skills in both French and English.
The French courses that I have taken in University provided me with the opportunity to improve my

The Explusion Of Subordinate Groups In The Human Condition...
in 1789 when the French revolution abolished the rule of the first estate and established collective
sovereignty for its citizens (Britannica, 3). It is evident to note that as societies became increasingly
heterogeneous, a cross–class alliance forms, thus disempowering actors who stood external from the
public sphere such as women and people of colour. Nonetheless, economic power silences the
marginalized (Guidry and Sawyer, 274). Participating in political ventures appeared to only validate
those who belonged to the elite. That is to say, public spheres tend to benefit dominant groups while
denying the subordinate groups from debating their needs, objectives and strategies, thus depriving
them of fulfilling their zoon politikon. An example of the exclusion of subordinate groups is
exhibited in Hannah Arendt's novel, The Human Condition (1958). Arendt identifies 3 fundamental
sectors which she believes defines the human nature of being. The categories of labor, work and
action exist as the main focus of her perceptions of scopes that directs human nature. Positioning
action as the leading step to reaching plurality, expanding the public sphere and acquiring eternal
freedom, she trivializes labor and work as classifications of "sub–humans" arguing that people who
dwell in these realms do so intentionally. Arendt dismisses the notion that people located within
these sectors are manipulated to adhere to systematic ploys to retain a hierarchy that benefits the
wealthy, yet

Software for Disabled Operators For individuals without the proper aids, a physical or
developmental disability can hinder their ability to live a productive life. In today's technology–
dependent world being unable to access a computer or other mobile device is not only inconvenient,
it can seriously inhibit access to employment and services, as well as social media. Assistive
software designed to bridge the gap between the user and the interface is crucial to helping those

Emile Durkheim’S Book Elementary Forms Of Religious Life
Emile Durkheim's book Elementary Forms of Religious Life serves as a religious guide from the
perspective of primitive societies by focusing on understanding the key principles of religion by
studying these groups and drawing similarities to major ideologies based off of their key elements
and rituals. His goal from this research was to figure out the origins of religion itself. His study
focused on the aborigines, the indigenous people of Australia. He wrote the study in a way so a non–
believer could understand religion and yet find none in error, allowing them to believe that each
religion was a mere branch on a much larger tree. This theory holds elements of the idea of
coexistence, theorizing no society has the wrong idea. All ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In layman 's terms, he perceives religion as firstly a society questioning how they arrived at said
point and from where they started, allowing the praise to go to a higher power. Edward Burnett
Tylor states, "the ordinary condition of the savage is the result of degeneration from a far higher
state" saying that our most primitive forms are reflections of the gods themselves. The second says
religion is a tool used for formulating societies throughout the ages and our world today, our
geographic distribution, has been accounted for based off of the religious identities of our past
societies.
Opposers of Durkheim's ideas hold religions to be of unequal standing, saying all religions do not all
have the same measure of truth. To them, Durkheim argues that to understand his approach one must
reach beneath the symbolism, grasp the reality it represents and understand its true meaning. In a
sense, he is saying that by understanding one religion, you have the capacity to understand another.
To achieve the author's goal, he utilizes Aristotle's categories of understanding –time, space, number,
cause, substance, and personality– all corresponding to universal properties. This became a popular
system for classification as he believed religion itself served as a universal property. The article
utilized the concept of time as a key to understanding religion. A summation of the example would
be that time does not define itself, we define it. We define what

Controlled Vocabulary Paper
Introduction The organization of information is the part of the human psyche, we begin organizing
images into "categories" from birth; and as we grow up we develop more complex organizational
skills to "sort" out daily information (Taylor & Joudrey, 2009, p, 1). From there we are able to
retrieve the information we have stored in our brains, when needed. Using that knowledge, how
does one create a system that is capable of retrieving information for any particular user based upon
their needs and ability? Since there is no two people just alike in mind or behavior, the idea of
organizing the information into a functional system that will make sense to most people seems
impossible. There is however, a few key methods that a cataloger, one ... Show more content on

In McCutcheon's (2009) article, the concept of controlled vocabulary "relies on recognition from
provided terms" (p. 63). When controlled vocabulary is put into the process of organizing
information, especially in the subject field, then the user can significantly locate the information
they are seeking faster. Without controlled vocabulary the natural language that each person uses
will be too chaotic to find any collocation within the collection. Natural language, according to
Susan Feldman (1999), is referring to the way humans have learned to speak, pronounce and spell
words in various ways. It's the way a New Yorker may talk or write in comparison to a Texan or a
British person. With controlled vocabulary, just like with name authority control, it tells the
cataloger(s) how to list the book or item, under a specific subject heading. Once the information is
in the system, a user can be linked to other controlled vocabulary terms similar to the term they
used, to find their

the valued resources other developed countries have to offer. Migration occurs mainly for the
purpose to gain better opportunities and life chances. In most cases, depending on an immigrant's

The Afrikaners created the National Party and this ethnic group of dominantly white politicians
became fearful of the South Africans as numerically they were out– numbered. In order to remain
the dominant group and continue to hold political power, the Dutch Afrikaners created 317
government laws which were related to ethnic segregation and restrictions based upon race. The
purpose for creating the discriminating laws were to maintain the white domination of the society
and laws were designed to acknowledge the rights of the white people but at the same time deny the
rights of those who were non–white. The first order of business for the Nationalist Party was to
separate the population of South Africa according to race, geographic locations, social and political
separation. According to the Library of Congress, apartheid's legislation states that the Population
Registration Act of 1950 in which the organization in charge of the racial classification was
conducted by the Department of Home Affairs, designed to divide the country's population
according to race. The Department of Home Affairs was responsible for recording people by their
racial group and as a result of the group members were treated differently. This law formed the basis
of apartheid and under the legislation terms of the population registration act, "all residents of South

"It has been my aim to place within reach of the inhabitants of a town, in which I have lived long
and pleasantly, the means of learning, if they are disposed of to learn, the marvelous development of
modern thought, and to enable them to judge of the destiny of the race on scientific evidence, rather
than a metaphysical evidence alone." (Lockwood, 11) Forbes' wishes reflect the didactic, reformist
tendencies of the19th century because in the quote mentioned above, he clearly states that he wanted
the people on his hometown to develop modern thought and actually form their own opinions based
on the facts they have learned rather than blindly following a popular opinion. His aspiration is seen

African American Stereotypes In Porgy And Bess
The Effects of Music on African American Stereotypes in Porgy and Bess
There is no official definition of a folk opera. One can consult the New Grove Dictionary for Opera,
and find not a single article. Sure, it includes comic operas and their light subject matter, Neapolitan
operas revolving around mythical heroes, and the spoken Opera Comique. But nowhere will there be
a mention of a folk opera. Then whey is Porgy and Bess seemingly the only opera labeled as such?
Sure some believe this differentiation is the result of its black focus. The musical portrays low class
citizens, and the broadway–esque music can not be likened to accepted operas. The term is, " just
used to deny the quality and importance of this piece" (Metcalf). Regardless ... Show more content

Opposed to Davis' eagerness to star in this film, Poitier did everything in his power to avoid this
role. He thought the character was degrading, and refused the part. Goldwyn searched for others,
and when they said no, he threatened to sue Poitier for violating a verbal contract, so Poitier had to
accept. Additionally, Poitier did not sing, but rather, "Robert McFerrin [did] his musical chores"
(Crowther). Despite setbacks, Poitier brings a loyal, kind–hearted, layer to Porgy. He is not just a
cripple , but rather a compassionate human in love with Bess, "as sensitive and strong as one could
wish" (Crowther). Unlike Crown who claimed Bess, Porgy sings about how he can be with Bess
since she loves him. "Bess, You is My Woman" is not a claim to Bess, but rather a profession of
love. When no one else would, Porgy offers Bess a place to stay, and murders for her to protect her
from Crown's evil ways. His loyalty it Bess is apparent, and can be likened to the loyalty a Tom to
his master. Unlike the Tom, Porgy has no master, just a love for Bess. For the majority of the picture
he has a docile nature, but does turn violent when Bess is jeopardized. His relation to the Tom
character is through loyalty. Poitier portrays Porgy as a loveable guy, madly in love with Bess. Even

Protest Rhetoric
Introduction:
The rhetorical functions of protest videos are important to study because they enable us to
understand and learn from opposing ideologies that are expressed. Music has a lot of power than we
realize, it can express every feeling, mood, or desire. It has many genres and holds a broad and
diverse listening audience. It also has the power to rally different people's backgrounds, cultures,

the trend is not new, it has started as early as the late 18th century (Library of Congress). However,

each of them – Reagan, who was the first to invite him to the White House, Bush–senior and Bill
Clinton at whose inauguration Jackson performed and whom he apparently liked the most. But all
this had nothing to do with politics (Johnson, B.(n.d.). Moreover, as previously mentioned, this time
period was facing, the police attacking African Americans, the military crackdown on the protest in
the Tiananmen Square, the Ku Klux Klan, war crimes, genocide, execution, martial law, and were
just some the issues occurring. On the other hand, with that aside, Jackson too had issues of his own.
Jackson was accused of sexually abusing a 13–year–old boy and was in and out of court for this
case. Jackson settled the case out of court for $22 million with no wrongdoing and no liability
(Nolasco, S. 1994). This time period had a lot of going on and Jackson used one song to address it

The Map of Art History Uses Order and Classification by...
The Map of Art History essay is about how art history uses disciplines in societies to represents
itself through order and classification. From many observations and theories it considers three
subject: first is the listing of fields in art history, second is the library system is for categorizing art
books, and third is the plotting of space and time in art history from survey texts. Also in the
discussion the writer talks about the geography of art history such as where does the idea appear
from? Other questions he asked was how and why do disciplinary classifications aspire are global

In the subject of field for art history Robert pointed out the art is found in all categories except for
the unknown era of the Renaissance all the way to the 19th and 20th century in Europe also the
African Diaspora. In this part of where he is examining the fields Robert shows the history of how
art progress through the globe and similar styles of art like the European art are shown in the north
and south of America. He also calls forth the Art Criticism and Theory which is to be the only
category to be critical and theoretical. Criticism in art is what demonstrates the discipline in art
history for rejection or approval of the work. According to Robert's argument he also claims that the
library system is for categorizing art books, his statement was that "every book creates order,
individually and collectively. The order of a single book is a function of its written discourse, but the
order of a group of books is greater than the sum of their texts. " (The Map of Art History, 30). By
his statement he meant that books are disciplinary and hold so much order and control over society
because of the knowledge it provides in history. Mevil Dewey was a leader of the classification
movement and the creator of the system that holds his name, stretching the educational mission of
new public libraries, because of his mission,

Essay on LLCs and Taxes
As with any kind of business formation, there will always be, to some extent, negative aspects
associated with the creation. To this date there is no perfect form of business entity. When deciding
on which entity is best suited for a business, there are many things to be considered. Prior to
deciding on a business structure, some major points to be thought about are both the legal and tax
ramifications associated with the entity chosen. Another criteria that should be considered are the
costs connected with the entity type. These cost include the cost of formation as well as any
continuing administrative cost that may be incurred. ("Choose Your Business," 2011)

The social security taxes, which are currently at a rate of 10.4% and Medicare taxes which is
currently at a rate 2.9%, total 13.9% down 2 percent from the previous year. This decrease in the
self–employment tax rate is due to the 2010 tax relief act past by Congress. (Internal Revenue
Service, 2011)
A Social Security tax is paid on the first $106,800 of income that is earned but anything thereafter is
not exposed to this tax. Taxes that are paid in for Social Security are most commonly known as
going towards old–age benefits that are received when retirement age is met. It also goes towards
survivors, such as the spouse or young children of someone who has passed, and disability
insurance. The taxes paid in for Medicare go towards the medical insurance of those who are over
the age of 65 or those who meet other decisive factor. The Medicare portion of the self–employment
taxes is not subject to any restriction on earnings and as a result all earning will be accountable for
this tax. (Internal Revenue Service, 2011)
Breaking down self–employment tax can be classified into two realms. First being in the form of an
individual's income derived by their trade or business and the second being the income or loss by the
individual's partnership of said trade or business. This self employment tax is levied on income in
excess of $400 and is in exclusion of real estate rentals, dividends, interest, capital gains tax,

Tools Of Research

  • 1. Tools of Research TOOLS OF RESEARCH * Research Tool – is a specific mechanism or strategy the researcher uses to collect, manipulate, or interpret data. * Research Methodology – is the general approach the researcher takes in carrying out the research project, to some extent, this approach dictates the particular tools that the researcher selects. THE SIX GENERAL TOOLS OF RESEARCH 1. The library and its resources For thousands of years, the library served primarily as a repository of books and manuscripts. It was, for the most part, only a slowly expanding universe of knowledge, one that could be comfortably contained within masonry walls. In the 20th century, the role of the library changed. An explosion of information occurred. Research altered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, 40° C does not represent a temperature which has twice the heat of 20° C because the zero on the Celsius scale is arbitrary, and does not represent an absence of heat. However, when we consider the metric system for temperature (known as 'degrees Kelvin'), then there is a true zero (called 'absolute zero'). Therefore, a measure of 40K (i.e. 40 degrees Kelvin) is twice as hot as 20K. STATISTICAL PROBABILITY OF THE SCALE * Nominal Scale – enables one to determine the mode, the percentage values, or the chi–square. * Ordinal Scale – enables one also to determine the median, percentile rank, and rank correlation. * Interval Scale – enables one also to determine the mean, standard deviation, and product moment correlation. * Ratio Scale – enables one also to determine the geometric mean and percentage variation. * VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY OF MEASUREMENT Validity – the validity of a measurement instrument is the extent to which the instrument measures what it is supposed to measure. Reliability – is the consistency with which a measuring instrument yields a certain result when the entity being measured hasn't changed. To apply these concepts to social research, we want to use measurement tools that are both reliable and valid. We want questions that yield consistent responses when asked multiple times – this is reliability. Similarly, we want questions that get accurate responses from respondents – this is validity. ... • 3. The Mayers Policy Analysis Model The United States is one of the wealthiest nations in the world, yet due to many disparities in its primary and secondary school system, it lags behind many of its economic peers, educationally. In 1983, the National Commission on Excellence in Education (NCEE) was chartered to review and synthesize the data and scholarly literature on the quality of learning and teaching in the United States. The resulting NCEE report titled, "A Nation at Risk," showed alarming results and called for great changes. For the United States to be competitive with other industrialized nations, it has had to transform its educational system, and thus politicians have been trying to raise the bar through various laws, policies and reforms, especially during the last ... According to the Organization for Economic Co–operation and Development (OECD): although the investment in early childhood education in the United States is relatively high, enrollment rates for 3– and 4–year–olds is still considerably lower than other developed countries. "The United States ranks 5th among OECD countries in expenditure per pre–primary student (USD $10,010) at this level of education; only Australia, Denmark, Luxembourg and New Zealand spend more, while the OECD average is USD $7,428" (OECD, 2014–2015). In the United States, there is a tendency for children to enter early childhood education at age 4. "Only 66% of 4–year–olds were enrolled in 2012 (the OECD average was 84%), while all 4–year–olds in France and the Netherlands were enrolled. Only 38% of 3–year–olds in the United States were enrolled in early childhood education in 2012 (the OECD average was 70%)." (OECD, 2014–2015). A Intrusion Detection System (IDS) was developed to examine how individuals detect malicious events and declare an attack based on a sequence of network events. The results indicate that more knowledge in cyber security facilitated the correct detection of malicious events and decreased the false classification of benign events as malicious. While knowledge of cyber security helps in the detection of malicious events, situated knowledge regarding a specific network at hand is needed to make accurate detection decisions. • 17. History, Philosophy And Miscellaneous Works Literature Review Libraries have a long history towards the ancient world as places used to keep important records such as clay tablets, transcripts and many texts. Many records were destroyed in the course of wars or purposely by some rulers with the changes in government. As a result, writing of literature as well as record keeping was encouraged where classification schemes were initiated to preserve those records of all times. The first formal classification was categorizing the writings into four types, the classics, history, philosophy and miscellaneous works. (Library, 2016). However, these broad categories didn't help much in guiding to access the increasing collection. The result was, introducing Dewey Decimal Classification as a scheme for the classification of the documents/ materials. (Library, 2016). Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) DDC was an invention of Melvil Dewey in 1876. He was an Assistant Librarian at Amherst College when he published DDC as "A Classification and subject index for cataloging and arranging the books pamphlets of a library". (Yoon, J. 2014). The system was formulated to organize the contents of the library based on the subject areas divided into 10 main groups where each group is given 100 numbers. For example, Religion belongs in 200 – 299. (DDC, 2016). This numerical classification gives identification for the item as well as a location tool which ensures the books under the same subject are kept together in a common area. (Wiercioch, ... Revenue from taxation of marijuana sales would range from $2.4 billion per year if marijuana were taxed like ordinary consumer goods to $6.2 billion if it were taxed like alcohol or tobacco. "d" Part 2 The book, "Ceremonial songs of the Creek and Yuchi Indians" is unique because it fits comfortably under classifications of history as well as music. For example, the provided Library of Congress Classification number shows it categorized with folk music from the American Indians and the Dewey Decimal Classification makes no reference to the musical aspect instead emphasizing the ties to the Creek Indians. This is problematic because if someone is not aware of the full topic or title and is seeking the book, they may disregard the music and be unable to locate the book in their search. Retrieval requires solid metadata, especially in these instances where one subject or classification is not enough to adequately describe the "aboutness" of the work. This is one argument in favor of increasing the reach of the semantic web and Linked Data to alleviate some of these problems. As seen in Part 1, achieving coextensivity is not easy when there can only be one DDC or LCC call number, but multiple LCSH headings assigned. Part 3 The assignments for this course were certainly eye–opening for someone who intends to do cataloging and classifying work in the future. According to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, the mitochondrial produce most of the energy for the body (United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation). When this process is interrupted or does not take place then cellular damage begins to occur (United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation). Rolf Luft, Lars Ernster, and Bjorn Afzelius are credited with the first diagnosis of mitochondrial disease via muscle biopsy in 1962 (DiMauro, 2011). Succinctly, it is a "defect in the respiratory chain (DiMauro, 2011)". Since mitochondria are in every cell in the body, and cells are specialized to the organ system to which they belong, the disease will manifest different symptoms in different individuals based on the organ system(s) affected (United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation). The Explusion Of Subordinate Groups In The Human Condition... in 1789 when the French revolution abolished the rule of the first estate and established collective sovereignty for its citizens (Britannica, 3). It is evident to note that as societies became increasingly heterogeneous, a cross–class alliance forms, thus disempowering actors who stood external from the public sphere such as women and people of colour. Nonetheless, economic power silences the marginalized (Guidry and Sawyer, 274). Participating in political ventures appeared to only validate those who belonged to the elite. That is to say, public spheres tend to benefit dominant groups while denying the subordinate groups from debating their needs, objectives and strategies, thus depriving them of fulfilling their zoon politikon. An example of the exclusion of subordinate groups is exhibited in Hannah Arendt's novel, The Human Condition (1958). Arendt identifies 3 fundamental sectors which she believes defines the human nature of being. The categories of labor, work and action exist as the main focus of her perceptions of scopes that directs human nature. Positioning action as the leading step to reaching plurality, expanding the public sphere and acquiring eternal freedom, she trivializes labor and work as classifications of "sub–humans" arguing that people who dwell in these realms do so intentionally. If a mortgage originator sells the mortgage in the secondary mortgage, the purchaser of the mortgage could choose to hold the mortgage itself or to securitize it in a pool of mortgages. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac securitize mortgages that conform to their criteria. Ginnie Mae guarantees MBS made up exclusively of mortgages insured or guaranteed by the federal government. Other financial institutions issue PLS that do not have an implicit or explicit government guarantee. Emile Durkheim’S Book Elementary Forms Of Religious Life Emile Durkheim's book Elementary Forms of Religious Life serves as a religious guide from the perspective of primitive societies by focusing on understanding the key principles of religion by studying these groups and drawing similarities to major ideologies based off of their key elements and rituals. His goal from this research was to figure out the origins of religion itself. His study focused on the aborigines, the indigenous people of Australia. He wrote the study in a way so a non– believer could understand religion and yet find none in error, allowing them to believe that each religion was a mere branch on a much larger tree. This theory holds elements of the idea of coexistence, theorizing no society has the wrong idea. All ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In layman 's terms, he perceives religion as firstly a society questioning how they arrived at said point and from where they started, allowing the praise to go to a higher power. Edward Burnett Tylor states, "the ordinary condition of the savage is the result of degeneration from a far higher state" saying that our most primitive forms are reflections of the gods themselves. The second says religion is a tool used for formulating societies throughout the ages and our world today, our geographic distribution, has been accounted for based off of the religious identities of our past societies. Opposers of Durkheim's ideas hold religions to be of unequal standing, saying all religions do not all have the same measure of truth. To them, Durkheim argues that to understand his approach one must reach beneath the symbolism, grasp the reality it represents and understand its true meaning. In a sense, he is saying that by understanding one religion, you have the capacity to understand another. To achieve the author's goal, he utilizes Aristotle's categories of understanding –time, space, number, cause, substance, and personality– all corresponding to universal properties. This became a popular system for classification as he believed religion itself served as a universal property. The article utilized the concept of time as a key to understanding religion. Controlled Vocabulary Paper Introduction The organization of information is the part of the human psyche, we begin organizing images into "categories" from birth; and as we grow up we develop more complex organizational skills to "sort" out daily information (Taylor & Joudrey, 2009, p, 1). From there we are able to retrieve the information we have stored in our brains, when needed. Using that knowledge, how does one create a system that is capable of retrieving information for any particular user based upon their needs and ability? Since there is no two people just alike in mind or behavior, the idea of organizing the information into a functional system that will make sense to most people seems impossible. There is however, a few key methods that a cataloger, one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In McCutcheon's (2009) article, the concept of controlled vocabulary "relies on recognition from provided terms" (p. 63). When controlled vocabulary is put into the process of organizing information, especially in the subject field, then the user can significantly locate the information they are seeking faster. Without controlled vocabulary the natural language that each person uses will be too chaotic to find any collocation within the collection. Natural language, according to Susan Feldman (1999), is referring to the way humans have learned to speak, pronounce and spell words in various ways. It's the way a New Yorker may talk or write in comparison to a Texan or a British person. With controlled vocabulary, just like with name authority control, it tells the cataloger(s) how to list the book or item, under a specific subject heading. It is important to make sure that there is a complete accounting of all of the materials such as parts, ammunition, and other items that belong to the air force so that it will be possible to ensure that in any location there is no issue that the materials will be in the hands of anyone else.
