Alexander Graham Bell Impact On Society
Imagine sending a letter every time you had something important to say. That letter could take days to reach the person you trying to get it too.
There was no trucks to send mail there were only couriers. For example couriers would walk or ride horseback for days do deliver a message.
Therefore, one casual day on March tenth 1876 Alexander Graham Bell had changed the way of communication. He invented the first telephone called
the bell telephone named after its creator. Some people say the mobile new phones is addicting or brainwashing children. For example imagine
spending a day without you iPhone or Samsung. It's hard. But who said staying with your phone on you could be terrible. What if you need a ride and ...

Ever since that one day in 1876 are way of life has changed to socialism and security. Also we have security because we can call 911. We can order
food instead of having to go out and get and everything has been going fine since the phone was invented. So far more and more phones are coming
out. First of all, the telephone has a long history of impacting society from 1876 to 2017. The telephone began from Alexander Graham Bell it was
the bell telephone. Telephones began as large, clunky devices capable of transmitting, and receiving voice messages over short distances. The
telephone evolved into lighter transportable cellular devices capable of enabling communications over large distances. Today's mobile phones would
be a dream to the 1900s. Furthermore, the telephone impacts our lives today. It gives us security, music, entertainment, navigation, and more. If you
have a phone you can understand how it impacts our lives. For example, socialism is an important feature of humans and sometimes you might not get
to at home so you can text them and talk to them. You can also use your phone for food. Like Jimmy Johns for example you can order them so fast you'll

ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL
History ISU – June 16, 2017
By: Andrew Monaghan In Edinburgh, Scotland, his parents, Melville and Eliza Grace Bell gave birth to Alexander Graham Bell on March 3, 1847
(Ross, 8). He would later immigrate to Canada in 1870 settling in Brantford, Ontario (Britannica.com). His mother was a portrait painter and an
accomplished musician and his father taught deaf people to speak (World Book Encyclopedia, 240). His parents accomplishments influenced him as an
inventor (World Book Encyclopedia, 240). Alexander Graham Bell's invention of the telephone, his creation of the photophone, and his development of
the electrical bullet probe made him one of Canada's most prominent inventors. Alexander Graham Bell is probably best known for his invention of the
telephone. In 1870, he worked with his father as a speech therapist for the deaf in Brantford, Ontario and this led him to work with how sound was
transmitted and received (thecanadianencyclopedia.ca). The word telephone comes from the Greek words meaning "far–sound" (Ross, 24). The
telegraph itself was a device created by a number of different scientists which involved passing electrical signals down a wire (Ross, 10). It was this
telegraph that led Bell to first begin experiments for the telephone in 1872 (World Book Encyclopedia, 240). Originally, Bell did not try the
transmission of speech electrically; however, on a single wire he attempted to send multiple telegraph messages all at once. (World Book

Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3rd, 1847. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He went to Edinburgh Royal High School when he
was eleven years old. Bell had left school when he was fifteen, he never actually graduated. He also attended the University of London for college
but his time in college was cut short due to him and his family moving to Canada in the 1870s also causing him to not fully graduate from college as
well. They left to Canada because they had lost two children to tuberculosis already. They thought that the only way they could keep Bell from getting
tuberculosis and losing him to it as well they had to leave their home in England. When he was younger he was really into learning about the world.

Graham Bell had found a way to send a simple current. He had received a patent for the invention on March 7th, 1876. Five days after he had
found a way to send a simple current through a piece of wire he had actually found a way to send actual speech. He had talked through a telephone
speaking to his assistance, Thomas A. Watson, in another room. That was the time the now famous words "Mr. Watson, come here. I need you." was
said. The most valuable patent that has ever been issued is actually the patent for the telephone. Bell gets a lot of the credit for inventing the
telephone but there are also a bunch of other people that contributed to the process of inventing it. Graham Bell was the first to patent the invention
of the telephone though. It as a very confusing thing to deal with. It was a confusing collection of counterclaims and claims. It was made even more
confusing with the lawsuit trying to resolve the patent claims of many individuals. Bell's grandfather, father, and his brother had all been associated
with work on speech and elocution. Both his wife and his mother were deaf. Therefore, Graham Bell was engaged in teaching teachers how to instruct
deaf people that didn't know how to talk how to speak, as well as experimenting with Leon Scott photography in recording the vibration of speech
while he was a professor of Vocal Philosopher at Boston University. Also, when he

The aim of this research paper is to give the history of Alexander Graham Bell, centering on his life, education, and the invention of the telephone.
Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3, 1847, in Edinburgh, Scotland and died on August 2, 1922, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Alexander Graham Bell in his early years was home schooled by his deaf mother until high school age. Bell then attended Royal High School
(1858–1862), Weston House Academy (1863–1864), University of Edinburgh (1864–1865). In 1865 Alexander and his family moved from Scotland to
London and there he attended the University College London (1868–1870). July 1870 the family settled in Brantford, Ontario, Canada due to the loss
of two of Alexander's brothers to tuberculosis. His father believed America's environment was healthier. In 1872, Alexander Graham Bell went to
Boston, Massachusetts where he tutored deaf children. Alexander Graham Bell was granted the first official patent for thetelephone on March 7, 1876

In 1877, construction of the first regular telephone line from Boston to Somerville, Massachusetts was completed. By the end of 1880, there were
47,900 telephones in the United States. Transcontinental service by overhead wires wasn't until 1915. The convenience of having a telephone can
help police, firefighters, and medical crews receive reports of accidents and fires faster and possibly save lives. Telephone styles have changed and
more functions were added over the years from rotary dial phones to touch–tone buttons. By the 1970's the first cordless telephone was introduced and

In 1877 AT&T was created by Alexander Graham Bell after he created the world's first telephone. There were a bunch of new weapons created in
WW1 and WW2, like the gatling gun, flamethrowers, and In 1945 the first atomic bomb was created and ready for testing, with the help of Albert
Einstein. Steve Jobs created the first touchscreen smartphone. There was a lot that I did not know about engineers that I know about now. In 1859,
young Alexander Graham Bell was working in a mill with his friend Ben Herdman and his father, when he was trying to invent something that
would help them get work done faster. Bell had eventually created a homemade device that used wooden paddles and nail brushes to help him to
dehusk things around the mill. Mr.Herdman gave both boys a small workshop in the mill so they could invent things to help them get more work
done. This sparked an interest for inventing things in young Bell's mind. Later on in life he began to experiment with sound. As early as 1863 was
when Bell started to do experiments with sound. In effort to try to understand sound more, he actually moved the lips and manipulated the vocal cords
of the family dog to get it to produce a crude sounding "How... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Alexander Graham Bell, born in Edinburgh, Scotland, was a man with many titles and accomplishments. Some of his titles include: inventor, scientist,
and teacher. While pursuing teaching, Bell began to research methods of transmitting several telegraph messages over a wire, which would ultimately
lead to Bell's invention of the telephone. This research was intended to help the deaf learn to speak through sound waves.
In 1874, the idea of creating a device to transmit speech through an electrical current formed in Bell's mind. He spent much time experimenting and
designing a device that fit the image expanding within the confines his head. Two years later he applied for a patent, which was granted on March 7,

Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray: A Race for Credit
A mass of people wonder who was Alexander Graham Bell and who was Elisha Gray. Some say that Alexander was just some person that invited the
telephone; Elisha Gray was a person that wanted to be the inverter of the telephone. Alexander was not just some person without him or Elisha Gray it
would probably be a long time in until someone thought of the invention. Alexander Graham Bell (1847–1922), the Scottish–born American scientist
and innovator best known as the person who invented the most device people use, the telephone. Alexander worked at a school for the deaf while
seeking to invent a machine that would broadcast sound through electricity. Alexander was acknowledged the first official patent for his telephone in
March 1876. Bell continued his scientific and amazing work for the rest of his life, and used his success and wealth to establish various research
centers nationwide.(article) Alexander was home schooled by his mother that was deaf so that is one reason that inspired Bell to teach at a school for
deaf. At age, 12 when playing with a friend in a grain mill Bell noticed how slow the process of husking the wheat grain. Therefore, he went home and
built a device with rotating paddles with sets of nailbrushes that dehusked the wheat. It was his first invention. Elisha Gray (1835–1901), inventor and

To make sure that the student knew what part of the head the teacher was talking about, the teacher would point to a particular part of the diagram and
have the student touch that part of themselves.
When the diagram was up on the black board there were also darkened symbols on certain parts such as the tip of nose, upper and lower lip etc. The
next step was to erase all other lines and have the student do the same procedure as before but this time they had to know where all the symbols
were. The purpose for learning all of these symbols was so that the teacher would be able to get into more detailed diagrams and actually show the deaf
student what part of the throat and mouth to move to pronounce a particular sound (Bell 51–54).
Another way that he was able to teach his students was using the manometric, pressurized, capsule, which enclosed a gas flame. The capsule
worked when the vibrations of a voice acted on a membrane that would expand the gas flame and result in a flickering "like the teeth of a saw"
(Mackenzie 66). The flickering would resemble the characteristics of a particular sound. The reason that Bell wanted to use this device was to see if
he could discover the "shape or form of a vibration that was a characteristic of the elements of English speech" (Mackenzie 67). Then he could
represent this information on paper for the use of his deaf pupils. With this device he could have a pupil put his

We use our phones many times to access the Internet. A phone is easier than using a computer because its smaller and more accessible. Sometimes
they can even come with their own weather app, which can be very useful. Phones can also be used for social media and interacting with other people.
Some examples can be, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, twitter, etc.
The telephone, of course, is still around today. It became such an important thing that people felt like they needed it. It was easier for communication
and it impacted the world in huge ways. We use it to entertain us, which can have its pros and cons. We can become to attached to our phones that we

Alexander Graham Bell's invention of the telephone got us so far in the world today. With phones we can easily communicate through phone call or
even text messaging, we can access the Internet faster, and we can purchase or download music and apps for entertainment. The evolution of the
telephone, went from phones that hang from a wall with 10 foot cords, to bag phones, to other cordless cell phones just a little smaller, to flip phones,
then finally to the touch screen phone. The phone has come so far in the world. If it wasn't for Alexander Graham Bell, where would we be

invention, the telephone. The famous telephone wasn't created just for fun; it had a purpose in which Bell saw that it would be useful to whoever used
it. Bell had a long life and achieved many things throughout it. Alexander Graham Bell, being the second son, was born on March 3, 1847, in
Edinburgh, Scotland. Bell's hometown was know as the "Athens of the North" due to the fact that it was influenced by its culture of arts and
science. One of his earliest inventions was created at the age of 12 that was a device with rotating paddles and nail brushes that easily removed the

Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3, 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. He was raised by his mother Eliza Grace Symonds Bell, who was
nearly deaf, but was an accomplished pianist and encouraged Alexander to undertake big challenges, and his father Alexander Melville Bell. Alexander
Graham Bell was one of three children and was home–schooled until age 11. He did not do very well in school academically, but he did enjoy science
and had a great ability to solve problems. Growing up, Alexander became very interested in his father's business, which focused on oral education for
the deaf. The business focused on Visual Speech, which was a system of symbols to aid people in speaking words in any language even if they had
never heard it before. Alexander Graham Bell had high hopes for oral education and communication, and wanted to learn more about it. During his
college years, Alexander Graham Bell received his education from the University of London where he studied under his grandfather who was a noted
speech teacher. Over the years, Alexander made his way around the world, teaching people about, and promoting, oralism. During this time, Alexander
attracted parents of deaf children who wanted their children to speak. Alexander truly believed that without the ability to speak, deaf people would
never be able to fully participate in society. Alexander Graham Bell took it upon himself to find the most appropriate way for oralism to be the main

He was born to Alexander Melville Bell and Eliza Grace Symonds. His mother was almost deaf, and his father taught elocution to the deaf, which I

though he would later face years of legal challenges to his claim that he was its sole inventor, resulting in one of history's longest patent battles."
When he got his machine to work, he offered to sell his patent to Western Union for 100 thousand dollars. Western Union turned down his offer
because the telephone did not really hit it off at first. So Alexander decided to make his own telephone company. "The Bell Telephone Company, a
common law joint stock company, was organized in Boston, Massachusetts on July 9, 1877, by Alexander Graham Bell 's father–in–law Gardiner
Greene Hubbard, who also helped organize a sister company – the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company." Once the telephone hit off and

The Greatest Mistake: Alexander Graham Bell
The Greatest Mistake The most popular technology today was accidently invented and turned into what we know now as the telephone. Alexander
Graham Bell once said, "Mr. Watson, come here, I want you." The few words that Bell said would change the way of communication for the better.
Through his devotion to helping others, his intelligence, and his perseverance, Alexander Graham Bell, one of the best inventors of the 1800's, invented
the telephone, which impacted technology in the years to come.
Alexander Graham Bell was involved with helping the deaf.
Although Bell was a great inventor, he saw himself primarily as a teacher of the deaf.
Bell followed in his father and grandfather's footsteps who were educators of the deaf. Bell's father was the inventor of Visible Speech, which was a
sequence of symbols that taught the deaf how to speak. Alexander Graham Bell was an assistant to his father while he was a professor in college. This
allowed Bell time to become more interested in helping the deaf ("Alexander Graham Bell").
In 1871, Bell taught Visible Speech in Boston, and within a year he opened his own school for the deaf (Noonan). In 1873, Bell also began to teach
vocal physiology ("Alexander Graham Bell"). Learning more about communication and speech led him to research how sound traveled over ... Show

91% of adults use cellphones, and without his invention of the telephone, there would never be cellphones, and the way we communicate with the
world would be entirely different. (Pewresarch) Michael Hart's book The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History ranks Alexander
Graham Bell as the forty second most influential person in history and he is one of the most influential persons in history. Alexander Graham Bell's
influences of his father and grandfather caused him to take interest in the human voice and imitating its sounds. Although he is known for his invention

His talking machine shows that he did enjoy inventing things, and it foreshadows the telephone.
Alexander Graham Bell had some good mentors when it came to his inventing. "Bell also spent much of his time inventing. Along with many other
innovators of the 1870s, including Thomas Edison, he worked om the multiplex telegraph– a machine that would send and receive more than one
signal over an electrical wire at the same time" (Streissguth). The fact that he worked with Thomas Edison, who is one of the greatest inventors in
history, shows that people had faith in him and believed that he could accomplish great things. He had some excellent role models to look up to. He
had some amazing influences that helped lead him to the invention of the telephone.
Alexander Graham Bell has many different achievements, such as the Volta prize, President of the National Geographic Society, and a regent of the
Smithsonian Institution. He also invented things such as, the air conditioning system, the hydrofoil speedboat and aerial transportation.
"In 1880 the French government awarded Bell the Volta prize of 50,000 francs for inventing the telephone."(Monkeyshines on America). His wining
this award was helpful with his career. He used his prize money to help further his career and his inventions. He was appreciated for his
accomplishments by a country that he was not really affiliated with, which proves that his invention of the telephone really did mean something to
other people. He was

and everywhere. First and foremost, Alexander Graham Bell was a prolific teacher of the deaf. This is what he considered to be his true life's work,
but only one of the many important things he did. Through his research of speech and sound, and his creative mind, he would become one of the most
influential inventors in modern history. His own definition of an inventor, "A man who looks upon the world and is not contented with things as they

Early in 1874 Bell met Thomas A. Watson, a young machinist at a Boston electrical shop. Watson became Bell's indispensable assistant, bringing to
Bell's experiments the crucial ingredient that had been lacking, his technical expertise in electrical engineering. Together the two men spent endless
hours experimenting (Paschoff 43,44). Although Bell formed the basic concept of the telephone using a varying but unbroken electric current to
transmit the varying sound waves of human speech, in the summer of 1874, Hubbard insisted that the young inventor focus his efforts on the harmonic
telegraph instead. Bell wanted to continue his work on the telephone but he complied. When he patented one of his telegraph designs in February
1875, he found that Elisha Gray had patented a multiple telegraph two days earlier. Greatly discouraged, Bell consulted in Washington with the elderly
Joseph Henry, who urged Bell to pursue his "germ of a great invention" speech transmission (Grosvenor and Wesson 55). Back in Boston, Bell and
Watson continued to work on the harmonic telegraph, but still with the telephone in mind. By accident on a June day in 1875, an intermittent
transmitter produced a steady current and transmitted sound, when Watson tightened or loosened a particular screw it produced a sound that would
vary in pitch. Bell had proof of his 1874 idea; he quickly

Imagine the excitement, pride, and incentive to invent, when Alexander Graham Bell felt, at age 12, when he found a way to help a mill owner
separate the husk from a kernel of wheat. Bell had no idea that this would be the start of a long journey to fame. His great–grandfather thoroughly
enjoyed finding the secrets of science. He had spent his life wanting to find ways to improve quality of life for people everywhere. Of course, the

He loved his science classes and he learned more and more about speech. Aleck also spent hours studying sound. He studied the way a piano
works; how its strings vibrated back and forth. The elder Bell encouraged Alexander and instilled an appreciation for learning and intellectual
pursuits. By age 16, he had joined his father in his work with the deaf and soon had full charge of his father's London operations. In July, 1870, the
family settled in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. There, they had set up a workshop to continue his study on the human voice. In 1871, Bell moved
to Boston and he began to work on a device that would allow the telegraph transmission of several messages set to different frequencies. He found
financial backing through two local investors. These local investors had been Thomas Sanders and Gardiner Hubbard. At this time, a device called
the telegraph was the fastest way to send messages. Between 1873 and 1874, Bell spent long days and nights trying to perfect the telegraph. Bell
wanted to make the telegraph work faster and to find a way to send more than one message over a wire at a time. While he was working on that, he
got an even bigger idea. What if voices could travel by wire from place to place? That would be faster than the telegraph. Bell was not good at building
things. He needed someone who could turn his sketches, or drawings, into a working machine so Thomas Watson become his assistant. Watson

scientist, inventor, engineer and innovator who invented the first telephone. In his later life, Bell did outstanding work in designing optical
Telecommunications. Bell also contributed to other inventions as well, he designed a precursor to modern day air conditioning, he also contributed to
aviation technology, and his last patent, at the age of 75, was for the fastest hydrofoil yet invented. In 1888, Bell was designated as one of the
founding members of the National Geographic Society. Bell and his son–in–law, Gilbert Grosvenor, redesigned the society 's dry journal and added
beautiful photographs and interesting writing –– turning National Geographic into one of the world 's best–known magazines. He is known as one of
the founders of Science magazine. Bell died on 2nd August, 1922. On the day of his burial, all telephone service in the US was stopped for one
minute in his remembrance. Bell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, enrolled in the University of London to study anatomy and physiology, but his
college time was interrupted when his family moved to Canada in 1870. When Bell was eleven years old, he invented a machine that could clean
wheat. He also learned a lot of things from his grandfather, Alexander Bell, a noted speech teacher. He assisted his father by teaching elocution and

This was a distance of 5 miles. The other people at the end heard faint noises, but could not hear what Bell was saying. In the next test, Bell
shortened the distance to 4 miles. The people concluded that they could hear a distinct and audible voice. This event proved that Bell's telephone
would work for any distance. Bell's colleagues offered to sell the patent for $100,000. The Western Union said it was nothing more than a toy and
they would not pay that much. Later, his partners said to Bell that he could sell his patent for about $25 million. Bell thought it was too late and
decided not to sell it and to keep his company. Bell began to show the world his revolutionary design. One of the more famous demonstrations was
from New York to Chicago in 1892. Queen Victoria showed excitement and said, "Most extraordinary!" The positive advice Bell had received made
him proud of his prototype design. Elisha Gray had similar prototypes with his liquid transmitter idea. In another prototype, Bell looked at Thomas

He traveled around the country giving speeches on the benefits of oralism, accompanied by Deaf students that learned how to use speech. He goes on
to argue that the use of American Sign Language in regional residential schools, the development of Deaf clubs and programs, and the exposure of
young Deaf children to Deaf adults and administrators were encouraging the pattern of Deaf–Deaf marriages. His goal was appeared to be to make
Deaf people less noticeable in society. Saying that without a Deaf Community, people would be forced to integrate into society. He assumed it would
integrate hearing and Deaf people together more, and the change could appear as education reforms rather than discrimination against the Deaf race.
However it just instilled anger into the Deaf Culture, which caused many debates to start up. Bell did gain success; he sent the memoir to anyone and
everyone involved in deaf education yet it still continued to fail. He was ultimately trying to eliminate their culture because he thought everyone should
be alike in a way. American Sign Language was their language just like English, Spanish, and French, and so on.Alexander Graham Bell and his
father's goal was to help the Deaf. They wanted to make them to feel like they are apart of a society; however, while doing that they were also
dehumanizing them in a way. The Deaf Culture takes pride in being deaf, and the work that the Bell family was doing was taking away their true
deaf identity. His father published a variety of works on the subject, several of which are still well known, especially his The Standard Elocutionist
(1860) and treatise on Visible Speech, which appeared in Edinburgh in 1868. The Standard Elocutionist appeared in 168 British editions and sold over
a quarter of a million copies in the United States alone.

The first electrical telegraph lines had been built forty years earlier, in the 1830s. These allowed electrical clicks Morse code to be instantly
transmitted over great distances. Bell wanted to transmit human speech instead of clicks, and he was getting close to doing it. He had found that
human speech came in wave like patterns. He now hoped to produce an electrical wave that would follow the same patterns as someone's speech.
After a while he won financial backing from Gardiner Hubbard and Thomas Sanders, two wealthy investors. Hubbard also brought in Anthony
Pollok, his patent attorney. In 1875, Bell was 27. Bell and his investors decided the time had come to protect his intellectual property using
copyrights. Bell had a copyright written for transmission of speech over an electrical wire. He applied for this patent in the UK, because in those
days UK patents were granted only if they had not first been granted in another country. Bell told his attorney to apply in the USA only after his
patent had been granted in the UK. By 1876, things in the USA had become darker. In February of that year, Elisha Gray applied for a US patent for a
telephone which used a variable resistor based on a liquid: salt water. On the same day, Bell's attorney filed his US patent application.
The money enabled Bell to hire Thomas Watson, a skilled electrical engineer, whose knowledge would help Bell's research.Alexander Graham Bell's
experiment wasn't a walk in the park, he ran into many obstacles on the way. Some obstacles involved were Alexander's two sons dying of Tuberculosis
during his inventing process. Another rough time for Alexander was the time, effort, and work he put into the telephone throughout his timeline.

The Invention Of Alexander Graham Bell
Alexander Graham Bell was not an American born inventor. He was born in Edinburgh Scotland March 3, 1947. His father was a formal speech
teacher. This might account for his early interest in speech and sound. As a boy he was so intrigued with sound he taught himself to play the piano.
When he was a teenager his mother began to lose her hearing, and this further perpetuated his entrance and desire to explore sound. Bell was a very
smart young man. At age 12 he invented a machine to take the husks off grains of wheat. This became a very important invention at this time, because
processing wheat by hand was very time consuming. People began to notice that he was a very innovative child. His friend's father who owned the
grain mill appreciated his invention so much that he gave him a small shop to work on his inventions. Alexander Graham Bell was home schooled by
his mother early in his childhood. As a child he received only three years of formal education. He was only a mediocre student, but showed an
amazing ability for problem solving. This was around 1859 about the time his mother started to lose her hearing. In 1863, Bell first heard a machine
designed by a German scientist, that imitated the sound of the human voice. He was very intrigued with this machine, and it probably provided the seed
that led to the invention of the telephone. He and his brother obtain the book written by the scientists, translated it from German, and learn how the
machine worked.

that he had a talent for music and always encouraged him to play (Matthews 12). Alexander Melville Bell, his father, was a "Professor of Elocution,"

Bell could now make a copy of the pattern and keep one for himself and give one to his student so that they could practice with it until they were
able to resemble the same type of pattern (Mackenzie 68). Aleck taught by day and invented by night. He had some rough sketches on how the
telegraph could actually be improved. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was able to lend him a laboratory for him to experiment in.
The main reason why he was doing this was he thought that this machine would be able to help him better teach the deaf (Matthews.) The main man
that Aleck worked with was Thomas Watson. The two tried dozens upon dozens of electric current configurations and on top of everything they did
not have directions or blueprints to follow. Aleck stated to Watson, "if I can get a mechanism which will make a current of electricity vary in its
intensity, as the air varies in density when a sound is passing through it, I can telegraph any sound, even the sound of speech" (Mackenzie 85.) Bell
knew that in order to produce sound to transmitting through a wire he would need more then one transmitter, but having several transmitters in a series
would send the current at different rates. When the current was sent at different rates it just blocked the wire up and in return was useless. The two
men were skeptical about building the telephone because

Alexander Graham Bell was a notable scientist and engineer that changed the world with his invention of the telephone. Without the telephone,
everyone would not have a reliable communication device. Alexander Graham Bell is considered one of the most influential people in human history.
Early Life ~ Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3rd, 1847 at his family home, 16 South Charlotte Street, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was
born to Professor Alexander Melville Bell and Eliza Grace (nee Symonds). He had two brothers, Melville James Bell and Edward Charles Bell, both
who died of tuberculosis. Bell originally did not have a middle name; he was allowed to adopt the middle name "Graham" for his eleventh birthday,
after pleading with his father. To friends and family, he was known as "Aleck".
Bell, from a young age, displayed a level of intelligence. He was known to experiment and collect plant specimens, and invented a wheat–dehusking
machine for his neighbor. While Bell attended school, though, he often skipped school and had poor grades. He dropped out of high school when he
was fifteen. However, Bell had a great interest in multiple areas of science. He earned a renewed thirst for learning after spending a year with his
elocutionist grandfather. Bell soon earned a job in elocution and music and attended the Universities of Edinburgh and London.
Later Life ~ After the tragic deaths of his brothers, the Bell family and his brother's widow Caroline decided to move to the "New

Alexander Graham Bell And The Deaf People
Just as hearing people have their own culture, so do deaf people. Marriage is pretty normal for deaf people who marry other deaf people. They
would have the same challenges hearing people would have in any relationship. According to Gallaudet University's Biology Department, at least
85% of deaf people, marry another deaf person ("Marriages among the Deaf"). However, back in the late 1800's, this was greatly discouraged,
especially by a man named Alexander Graham Bell. He is most well–known for the invention of the telephone. However, most people do not know the
story behind it. His mother and wife were both born deaf. This led his interest into speech and hearing and encouraged experimentation with hearing
devices. He then started to teach deaf people how to speak orally through a universal alphabet invented by his father called "Visible Speech". He was
one of the leaders of the oralism movement in the deaf community. His goal was to ban sign language and remove it from existence. He believes that if
an individual was in America, they should only speak English and participate only in American culture. Therefore, it worried him when he noticed that
deaf people had been forming such a tight–knit group with their own language, clubs, social events, and through marriage. He wanted to outlaw it all
("Signing, Alexander Graham Bell and the NAD").
Bell was also very interest in heredity. He viewed being deaf as a major defect and wanted to correct it through oralism and not

Alexander Graham Bell Has Changed The Way Our World
Alexander Graham Bell
Have you ever thought about life what life was like when communication was hard? If you were far away from someone you would either have to
write or walk, and both of those would take a long time to get a message somewhere. The introduction of the telephone changed the way our world
worked. If you have used a phone anytime in your life, and almost everyone has, you need to thank the creator, Alexander Graham Bell. Alexander
Graham Bell has changed the way our world works, thanks to his many famous and important inventions.
On March 3, 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland, Alexander Bell, the teacher of the deaf and Scottish–born American inventor was born. Alexander's middle
name "Graham" was not added until he was about ten years old. He added his middle name because he also wanted one like his brothers. His
father gave him his middle name as his birthday present. He was the middle child and both of his brothers passed away from tuberculosis later in
his life. Tuberculosis is a fatal disease that attacks the lungs. His grandfather was an elocution professor and his father was an expert on elocution
and the mechanics of the voice. Elocution is the art of public speaking. He was homeschooled for most of his life by his mother and he got one year
of schooling at a private school and two years at Edinburgh High School.

Alexander Graham Bell's Impact on Communication

  • 1. Alexander Graham Bell Impact On Society Imagine sending a letter every time you had something important to say. That letter could take days to reach the person you trying to get it too. There was no trucks to send mail there were only couriers. For example couriers would walk or ride horseback for days do deliver a message. Therefore, one casual day on March tenth 1876 Alexander Graham Bell had changed the way of communication. He invented the first telephone called the bell telephone named after its creator. Some people say the mobile new phones is addicting or brainwashing children. For example imagine spending a day without you iPhone or Samsung. It's hard. But who said staying with your phone on you could be terrible. What if you need a ride and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ever since that one day in 1876 are way of life has changed to socialism and security. Also we have security because we can call 911. We can order food instead of having to go out and get and everything has been going fine since the phone was invented. So far more and more phones are coming out. First of all, the telephone has a long history of impacting society from 1876 to 2017. The telephone began from Alexander Graham Bell it was the bell telephone. Telephones began as large, clunky devices capable of transmitting, and receiving voice messages over short distances. The telephone evolved into lighter transportable cellular devices capable of enabling communications over large distances. Today's mobile phones would be a dream to the 1900s. Furthermore, the telephone impacts our lives today. It gives us security, music, entertainment, navigation, and more. If you have a phone you can understand how it impacts our lives. For example, socialism is an important feature of humans and sometimes you might not get to at home so you can text them and talk to them. You can also use your phone for food. Like Jimmy Johns for example you can order them so fast you'll ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Inventions Of Alexander Graham Bell ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL History ISU – June 16, 2017 By: Andrew Monaghan In Edinburgh, Scotland, his parents, Melville and Eliza Grace Bell gave birth to Alexander Graham Bell on March 3, 1847 (Ross, 8). He would later immigrate to Canada in 1870 settling in Brantford, Ontario (Britannica.com). His mother was a portrait painter and an accomplished musician and his father taught deaf people to speak (World Book Encyclopedia, 240). His parents accomplishments influenced him as an inventor (World Book Encyclopedia, 240). Alexander Graham Bell's invention of the telephone, his creation of the photophone, and his development of the electrical bullet probe made him one of Canada's most prominent inventors. Alexander Graham Bell is probably best known for his invention of the telephone. In 1870, he worked with his father as a speech therapist for the deaf in Brantford, Ontario and this led him to work with how sound was transmitted and received (thecanadianencyclopedia.ca). The word telephone comes from the Greek words meaning "far–sound" (Ross, 24). The telegraph itself was a device created by a number of different scientists which involved passing electrical signals down a wire (Ross, 10). It was this telegraph that led Bell to first begin experiments for the telephone in 1872 (World Book Encyclopedia, 240). Originally, Bell did not try the transmission of speech electrically; however, on a single wire he attempted to send multiple telegraph messages all at once. (World Book ... • 3. How Did Alexander Graham Bell Contribute To The Discovery... Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3rd, 1847. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He went to Edinburgh Royal High School when he was eleven years old. Bell had left school when he was fifteen, he never actually graduated. He also attended the University of London for college but his time in college was cut short due to him and his family moving to Canada in the 1870s also causing him to not fully graduate from college as well. They left to Canada because they had lost two children to tuberculosis already. They thought that the only way they could keep Bell from getting tuberculosis and losing him to it as well they had to leave their home in England. When he was younger he was really into learning about the world. This leads him to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Graham Bell had found a way to send a simple current. He had received a patent for the invention on March 7th, 1876. Five days after he had found a way to send a simple current through a piece of wire he had actually found a way to send actual speech. He had talked through a telephone speaking to his assistance, Thomas A. Watson, in another room. That was the time the now famous words "Mr. Watson, come here. I need you." was said. The most valuable patent that has ever been issued is actually the patent for the telephone. Bell gets a lot of the credit for inventing the telephone but there are also a bunch of other people that contributed to the process of inventing it. Graham Bell was the first to patent the invention of the telephone though. It as a very confusing thing to deal with. It was a confusing collection of counterclaims and claims. It was made even more confusing with the lawsuit trying to resolve the patent claims of many individuals. Bell's grandfather, father, and his brother had all been associated with work on speech and elocution. Both his wife and his mother were deaf. Therefore, Graham Bell was engaged in teaching teachers how to instruct deaf people that didn't know how to talk how to speak, as well as experimenting with Leon Scott photography in recording the vibration of speech while he was a professor of Vocal Philosopher at Boston University. There were a bunch of new weapons created in WW1 and WW2, like the gatling gun, flamethrowers, and In 1945 the first atomic bomb was created and ready for testing, with the help of Albert Einstein. Steve Jobs created the first touchscreen smartphone. There was a lot that I did not know about engineers that I know about now. In 1859, young Alexander Graham Bell was working in a mill with his friend Ben Herdman and his father, when he was trying to invent something that would help them get work done faster. Bell had eventually created a homemade device that used wooden paddles and nail brushes to help him to dehusk things around the mill. Mr.Herdman gave both boys a small workshop in the mill so they could invent things to help them get more work done. This sparked an interest for inventing things in young Bell's mind. Later on in life he began to experiment with sound. As early as 1863 was when Bell started to do experiments with sound. • 7. Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray: A Race for Credit A mass of people wonder who was Alexander Graham Bell and who was Elisha Gray. Some say that Alexander was just some person that invited the telephone; Elisha Gray was a person that wanted to be the inverter of the telephone. Alexander was not just some person without him or Elisha Gray it would probably be a long time in until someone thought of the invention. Alexander Graham Bell (1847–1922), the Scottish–born American scientist and innovator best known as the person who invented the most device people use, the telephone. Alexander worked at a school for the deaf while seeking to invent a machine that would broadcast sound through electricity. Alexander was acknowledged the first official patent for his telephone in March 1876. Bell continued his scientific and amazing work for the rest of his life, and used his success and wealth to establish various research centers nationwide.(article) Alexander was home schooled by his mother that was deaf so that is one reason that inspired Bell to teach at a school for deaf. At age, 12 when playing with a friend in a grain mill Bell noticed how slow the process of husking the wheat grain. Therefore, he went home and built a device with rotating paddles with sets of nailbrushes that dehusked the wheat. It was his first invention. Educating the hearing impaired is what he wished to be remembered for. Bell was born on March 3, 1847, in Edinburgh, Scotland. His mother was a painter of miniature portraits and also loved to play the piano even though she was nearly deaf. Aleck's mother knew that he had a talent for music and always encouraged him to play (Matthews 12). To make sure that the student knew what part of the head the teacher was talking about, the teacher would point to a particular part of the diagram and have the student touch that part of themselves. When the diagram was up on the black board there were also darkened symbols on certain parts such as the tip of nose, upper and lower lip etc. The next step was to erase all other lines and have the student do the same procedure as before but this time they had to know where all the symbols were. The purpose for learning all of these symbols was so that the teacher would be able to get into more detailed diagrams and actually show the deaf student what part of the throat and mouth to move to pronounce a particular sound (Bell 51–54). Another way that he was able to teach his students was using the manometric, pressurized, capsule, which enclosed a gas flame. The capsule worked when the vibrations of a voice acted on a membrane that would expand the gas flame and result in a flickering "like the teeth of a saw" (Mackenzie 66). The flickering would resemble the characteristics of a particular sound. The reason that Bell wanted to use this device was to see if he could discover the "shape or form of a vibration that was a characteristic of the elements of English speech" (Mackenzie 67). Then he could represent this information on paper for the use of his deaf pupils. With this device he could have a pupil put his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was raised by his mother Eliza Grace Symonds Bell, who was nearly deaf, but was an accomplished pianist and encouraged Alexander to undertake big challenges, and his father Alexander Melville Bell. Alexander Graham Bell was one of three children and was home–schooled until age 11. He did not do very well in school academically, but he did enjoy science and had a great ability to solve problems. Growing up, Alexander became very interested in his father's business, which focused on oral education for the deaf. The business focused on Visual Speech, which was a system of symbols to aid people in speaking words in any language even if they had never heard it before. Alexander Graham Bell had high hopes for oral education and communication, and wanted to learn more about it. During his college years, Alexander Graham Bell received his education from the University of London where he studied under his grandfather who was a noted speech teacher. Over the years, Alexander made his way around the world, teaching people about, and promoting, oralism. During this time, Alexander attracted parents of deaf children who wanted their children to speak. When he got his machine to work, he offered to sell his patent to Western Union for 100 thousand dollars. Western Union turned down his offer because the telephone did not really hit it off at first. So Alexander decided to make his own telephone company. Together the two men spent endless hours experimenting (Paschoff 43,44). Although Bell formed the basic concept of the telephone using a varying but unbroken electric current to transmit the varying sound waves of human speech, in the summer of 1874, Hubbard insisted that the young inventor focus his efforts on the harmonic telegraph instead. Bell wanted to continue his work on the telephone but he complied. When he patented one of his telegraph designs in February 1875, he found that Elisha Gray had patented a multiple telegraph two days earlier. Greatly discouraged, Bell consulted in Washington with the elderly Joseph Henry, who urged Bell to pursue his "germ of a great invention" speech transmission (Grosvenor and Wesson 55). Back in Boston, Bell and Watson continued to work on the harmonic telegraph, but still with the telephone in mind. After a while he won financial backing from Gardiner Hubbard and Thomas Sanders, two wealthy investors. Hubbard also brought in Anthony Pollok, his patent attorney. In 1875, Bell was 27. Bell and his investors decided the time had come to protect his intellectual property using copyrights. Bell had a copyright written for transmission of speech over an electrical wire. He applied for this patent in the UK, because in those days UK patents were granted only if they had not first been granted in another country. Bell told his attorney to apply in the USA only after his patent had been granted in the UK. By 1876, things in the USA had become darker. In February of that year, Elisha Gray applied for a US patent for a telephone which used a variable resistor based on a liquid: salt water. On the same day, Bell's attorney filed his US patent application. The money enabled Bell to hire Thomas Watson, a skilled electrical engineer, whose knowledge would help Bell's research.Alexander Graham Bell's experiment wasn't a walk in the park, he ran into many obstacles on the way. Some obstacles involved were Alexander's two sons dying of Tuberculosis during his inventing process. Another rough time for Alexander was the time, effort, and work he put into the telephone throughout his timeline. Alexander got through many of his obstacles by doing things he enjoyed like working with the deaf and being around family and people he cared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Invention Of Alexander Graham Bell Alexander Graham Bell was not an American born inventor. He was born in Edinburgh Scotland March 3, 1947. His father was a formal speech teacher. This might account for his early interest in speech and sound. As a boy he was so intrigued with sound he taught himself to play the piano. When he was a teenager his mother began to lose her hearing, and this further perpetuated his entrance and desire to explore sound. Bell was a very smart young man. At age 12 he invented a machine to take the husks off grains of wheat. This became a very important invention at this time, because processing wheat by hand was very time consuming. People began to notice that he was a very innovative child. His friend's father who owned the grain mill appreciated his invention so much that he gave him a small shop to work on his inventions. Alexander Graham Bell was home schooled by his mother early in his childhood. As a child he received only three years of formal education. He was only a mediocre student, but showed an amazing ability for problem solving. This was around 1859 about the time his mother started to lose her hearing. In 1863, Bell first heard a machine designed by a German scientist, that imitated the sound of the human voice. He was very intrigued with this machine, and it probably provided the seed that led to the invention of the telephone. He and his brother obtain the book written by the scientists, translated it from German, and learn how the machine worked. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Alexander Graham Bell Essay 10 Alexander Graham Bell, a man who best known for inventing the telephone. Most people don't know he spent the majority of his life teaching and helping the deaf. Alexander Melville Bell, his father, was a "Professor of Elocution," Art of public speaking (Bruce 16). Due to the fact that his father was a very knowledgeable man and a professor, Aleck obtained most of his education from his father and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bell could now make a copy of the pattern and keep one for himself and give one to his student so that they could practice with it until they were able to resemble the same type of pattern (Mackenzie 68). Aleck taught by day and invented by night. He had some rough sketches on how the telegraph could actually be improved. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was able to lend him a laboratory for him to experiment in. The main reason why he was doing this was he thought that this machine would be able to help him better teach the deaf (Matthews.) The main man that Aleck worked with was Thomas Watson. The two tried dozens upon dozens of electric current configurations and on top of everything they did not have directions or blueprints to follow. Aleck stated to Watson, "if I can get a mechanism which will make a current of electricity vary in its intensity, as the air varies in density when a sound is passing through it, I can telegraph any sound, even the sound of speech" (Mackenzie 85.) Bell knew that in order to produce sound to transmitting through a wire he would need more then one transmitter, but having several transmitters in a series would send the current at different rates. When the current was sent at different rates it just blocked the wire up and in return was useless. The two men were skeptical about building the telephone because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Alexander Graham Bell Research Paper Alexander Graham Bell was a phenomenal inventor, he invented the telephone because he wanted something better than a telegraph that only sent two telegrams at once. He hypothesized different methods until he discovered a reed did the job. Bell also invented a metal detector, a breathing machine, and an audiometer. He always had the interests of other people in his inventions. He created the breathing machine to help people with breathing problems and the audiometer for those who had hearing problems. Bell was very companionate about helping people with hearing problems. He said that all his inventions could not compare towards his work he had done in Boston School for the Deaf. Bell believed that everyone should keep fighting through their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The study is also a science and this one is extremely important because it saves countless lives. There is always a cure that needs to be found and scientists are always looking for it. They hypothesize what chemicals would work together to destroy the disease or infections. They make predictions based on the patterns they have observed with different experiments. • 36. Alexander Graham Bell Alexander Graham Bell was a notable scientist and engineer that changed the world with his invention of the telephone. Without the telephone, everyone would not have a reliable communication device. Alexander Graham Bell is considered one of the most influential people in human history. Early Life ~ Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3rd, 1847 at his family home, 16 South Charlotte Street, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was born to Professor Alexander Melville Bell and Eliza Grace (nee Symonds). He had two brothers, Melville James Bell and Edward Charles Bell, both who died of tuberculosis. Bell originally did not have a middle name; he was allowed to adopt the middle name "Graham" for his eleventh birthday, after pleading with his father. To friends and family, he was known as "Aleck". Bell, from a young age, displayed a level of intelligence. He was known to experiment and collect plant specimens, and invented a wheat–dehusking machine for his neighbor. While Bell attended school, though, he often skipped school and had poor grades. He dropped out of high school when he was fifteen. However, Bell had a great interest in multiple areas of science. He earned a renewed thirst for learning after spending a year with his elocutionist grandfather. Bell soon earned a job in elocution and music and attended the Universities of Edinburgh and London. Later Life ~ After the tragic deaths of his brothers, the Bell family and his brother's widow Caroline decided to move to the "New ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Alexander Graham Bell And The Deaf People Just as hearing people have their own culture, so do deaf people. Marriage is pretty normal for deaf people who marry other deaf people. They would have the same challenges hearing people would have in any relationship. According to Gallaudet University's Biology Department, at least 85% of deaf people, marry another deaf person ("Marriages among the Deaf"). However, back in the late 1800's, this was greatly discouraged, especially by a man named Alexander Graham Bell. He is most well–known for the invention of the telephone. However, most people do not know the story behind it. His mother and wife were both born deaf. This led his interest into speech and hearing and encouraged experimentation with hearing devices. He then started to teach deaf people how to speak orally through a universal alphabet invented by his father called "Visible Speech". He was one of the leaders of the oralism movement in the deaf community. His goal was to ban sign language and remove it from existence. He believes that if an individual was in America, they should only speak English and participate only in American culture. Therefore, it worried him when he noticed that deaf people had been forming such a tight–knit group with their own language, clubs, social events, and through marriage. He wanted to outlaw it all ("Signing, Alexander Graham Bell and the NAD"). Bell was also very interest in heredity. He viewed being deaf as a major defect and wanted to correct it through oralism and not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you were far away from someone you would either have to write or walk, and both of those would take a long time to get a message somewhere. The introduction of the telephone changed the way our world worked. If you have used a phone anytime in your life, and almost everyone has, you need to thank the creator, Alexander Graham Bell. Alexander Graham Bell has changed the way our world works, thanks to his many famous and important inventions. On March 3, 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland, Alexander Bell, the teacher of the deaf and Scottish–born American inventor was born. Alexander's middle name "Graham" was not added until he was about ten years old. He added his middle name because he also wanted one like his brothers. His father gave him his middle name as his birthday present. He was the middle child and both of his brothers passed away from tuberculosis later in his life. Tuberculosis is a fatal disease that attacks the lungs. His grandfather was an elocution professor and his father was an expert on elocution and the mechanics of the voice. Elocution is the art of public speaking. He was homeschooled for most of his life by his mother and he got one year of schooling at a private school and two years at Edinburgh High School.
