The ?Controversial? Telephone ?Mr. Watson, come here ? I want to see you.? With these words
yelled into a mouthpiece on March 10, 1876, the controversy begins or more correctly, continues.
Although the telephone is the 5th top invention that affected the world and was crucial in the advent
of the internet, controversy has surrounded the telephone since Alexander Graham Bell rushed to the
patent office and got credit as the inventor when it was actually a collaborative effort of Professor

Graham Bell Motivation
Alexander Graham Bell was the inventor of the telephone. If Alexander Graham Bell never invented
the telephone the modern world would not be where it is now. The telephone opened a new age of
communication it connected people even the farthest distances apart. He also started one othe the
most successful telephone companies, he founded Bell Telephone or nowadays, American
Telephone & Telegraph Co. (AT&T). If all these accomplishments don't deserve Alexander a place
in history I don't know what does.

The advent of the lightbulb and the discovery of electricity hugely affected society during the 19th
century. For example, it allowed for people to see more clearly at night and to illuminate dark
factories or industrial locations. Although it is a quite obvious reason, it is still an extremely
important benefit that could not be created as well as the light bulb for that time. Additionally, the
invention of electricity and the lightbulb in particular helped protect everyday civilians. Because of
gas–fed street lamps, fire danger was much more common than with non flammable electric light

The Invention of the Telephone Have you ever felt like you couldn't ever use your phone and you
could only use letters to communicate? Well, lots of people felt like that before the phones were
invented. Some people had to use only letters or a telegraph to communicate and not much had the
telegraph or they didn't know how to use it. People say that they can't live without their phones but
they should stop and think about how older people felt before the phone was even invented. I think
the invention of the telephone changed the world a lot and that kids should be thankful for their
phones because if they were alive in the century before the telephone was invented they would feel
how other people felt when they had to use letters or telegraphs to communicate. The idea of the
telephone being invented was thought in 1874 by Alexander Graham Bell. Alexander Graham Bell
thought of the idea because he was influenced by the deaf and because he taught them when his
wife, also one of his students, and mother were deaf. In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell invented the

birth to Alexander Graham Bell on March 3, 1847 (Ross, 8). He would later immigrate to Canada in
1870 settling in Brantford, Ontario (Britannica.com). His mother was a portrait painter and an
accomplished musician and his father taught deaf people to speak (World Book Encyclopedia, 240).
His parents accomplishments influenced him as an inventor (World Book Encyclopedia, 240).
Alexander Graham Bell's invention of the telephone, his creation of the photophone, and his
development of the electrical bullet probe made him one of Canada's most prominent inventors.
Alexander Graham Bell is probably best known for his invention of the telephone. In 1870, he
worked with his father as a speech therapist for the deaf in Brantford, Ontario and this led him to

telephone comes from the Greek words meaning "far–sound" (Ross, 24). The telegraph itself was a
device created by a number of different scientists which involved passing electrical signals down a

Alexander Graham Bell's invention of the telephone got us so far in the world today. With phones
we can easily communicate through phone call or even text messaging, we can access the Internet
faster, and we can purchase or download music and apps for entertainment. The evolution of the
telephone, went from phones that hang from a wall with 10 foot cords, to bag phones, to other
cordless cell phones just a little smaller, to flip phones, then finally to the touch screen phone. The

The main need it fulfills is instant communication. Whether it be a phone call, a text message, or
even video chat, telephones have the ability to let the user communicate with anyone around the
world instantaneously, which is an amazing feature. Telephones are also able to fulfill the need for
entertainment. When using smartphones, consumers have the option to listen to music, play games,
watch movies/TV shows, and access social media. Sine phones are able to provide the consumer
with all these different types of entertainment, it eliminates the need for consumers to have multiple
sources of entertainment, because all these forms of entertainment are on a phone (i.e no need for an
iPod to listen to music to, because you can download music onto your phone). Another need a phone
can fulfill, is the need for a camera. Instead of carrying a bulky camera wherever you go, consumers
can just bring their mobile phone with them, and take pictures and videos. This is very convenient
because it reduces the amount of items you need to carry with you. It also eliminates the process of
downloading your pictures onto a computer to view them, because instead you can view them right
on the spot. The phone also fulfills the need for an alarm clock, a map, a compass and a calculator. It
also is able to keep track of your health, gives you current news updates, and you are able to keep

The Invention Of Alexander Graham Bell
Alexander Graham Bell was not an American born inventor. He was born in Edinburgh Scotland
March 3, 1947. His father was a formal speech teacher. This might account for his early interest in
speech and sound. As a boy he was so intrigued with sound he taught himself to play the piano.
When he was a teenager his mother began to lose her hearing, and this further perpetuated his
entrance and desire to explore sound. Bell was a very smart young man. At age 12 he invented a
machine to take the husks off grains of wheat. This became a very important invention at this time,
because processing wheat by hand was very time consuming. People began to notice that he was a
very innovative child. His friend's father who owned the grain mill appreciated his invention so
much that he gave him a small shop to work on his inventions. Alexander Graham Bell was home
schooled by his mother early in his childhood. As a child he received only three years of formal
education. He was only a mediocre student, but showed an amazing ability for problem solving.
This was around 1859 about the time his mother started to lose her hearing. In 1863, Bell first heard
a machine designed by a German scientist, that imitated the sound of the human voice. He was very
intrigued with this machine, and it probably provided the seed that led to the invention of the
telephone. He and his brother obtain the book written by the scientists, translated it from German,
and learn how the machine worked.

The Invention Of The Telephone
Most people use telephones on a daily basis, usually without the user considering what process the
inventors like Alexander Graham Bell went through in order to produce the first ever version of this
device. The telephone has served an important role in connecting people throughout the world with
the push of a few buttons. First beginning its journey in the 1830s, the telephone started out as a
simple telegraph, invented by Samuel Morse (history.com). According to Antonio, the telegraph was
the first seen form of long distance communication. The telegraph evolved slowly within the years
to come as Alex Graham Bell sought to improve this machinery and advance it in hope of creating
hearing aids for his mother (pbs.org). Throughout time the telegraph evolved into what today's
generation calls a telephone. Alexander Graham Bell was a Scottish American who first came to the
United States as an adult. (Farley). He served as a teacher for deaf students (pbs.org). His mother
was hearing–impaired. Graham sought to create a type of hearing aid in order to help his mother and
other hearing impaired students. Along the way while tinkering with the telegraph in hopes to invent
some sort of a hearing aid, Bell accidently stumbled upon the telephone. Therefore, instead of
inventing hearing aids, which is what he initially set out to do, he invented the telephone. First
