The Telephone And Alexander Graham Bell By Chloe and Katie
How it was invented Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone on March 7th 1876. Although people say he was the inventor, Antonio Meucci was the first man to have a telephone. Alexander Graham Bell was the one who “re-made” it. Alexander wanted a simpler way to communicate over long and short distance. The first thing he said on the telephone was to his assistant, Thomas Watson. "Watson, come here! I need you!” Were the exact words.
About Alexander Graham Bell Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3, 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was the son of Alexander Melville Bell and Eliza Grace Symonds. His mother, was a portrait painter and accomplished musician. His father had a world wide reputation as a teacher and author of textbooks on correct speech, and as the inventor of "visible speech." Melville’s Visible Speech helped to guide the deaf in learning to speak and Graham became an expert in its use for that purpose. He had two older brothers, but they both died from Tuberculosis when Alexander was 11. When his brothers died Alexander’s parents felt it was safer to move. So they went to England.
About Alexander (Continued) At the age of 29 Alexander created the Telephone. In 1877 Alexander and Mabel Hubbard were married. During the time they were married they had 4 children, 2 boys who died in infancy and 2 daughters. He died on August 2, 1922 from Pernicious Anemia. On the day of his burial, all telephone service in the US were stopped for one minute in his honor.
