Throughout this assignments I will discuss how business and business educate was handled during
the formal Regency period. This period took place from 1811–1820. During this period there were
many gender rolls, norms, and values for both men and women to follow. The specific work that I
will be analyzing is Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austin originally wrote this work. A film was then
developed in 2005.
The main roll of men during this period was to handle business and earn money to support the
family. The men in the film are always formally dressed and ready to conduct business representing
their social class. Men during this period were well educated to conduct business and a groomed to
become the patriarch of the family, as they got older.
The women during the Regency period had far different rolls then men. In the film you often see the
women dressed trying to impress the male characters using garments such as ribbons and fancy
dresses to make them appealing to men. The norm for women at this time was for the man to

This paper was prepared for
Student involvement in research activities in U.S. business schools used to be primarily offered to
graduate students. However, many universities are now offering undergraduate research
opportunities that can provide students with a deep understanding of the academic environment.
Research allows the exploration and questioning of significant issues in today's world.
This type of learning can provide students with more understanding than can be taught in a
classroom or read in a textbook. Research challenges students to engage in the process of
identifying and evaluating major issues and trends impacting businesses and society. Students also
explore potential business implications that can drive innovation (The Boyer Commission). One
goal of business school research is to enhance the prestige of the business school where the research
is done. There is evidence that research does achieve that goal, as "research has, historically, been
regarded as the primary determinant of a school 's prestige" (Armstrong, 1995: 103). For example,
Business Week magazine has added a research influence measure in its ratings of business schools.
If a school scores highly on that measure, it enhances the overall prestige ranking.

The Great Debate Liberal arts education, with relation to the business field, has brought about much
attention in the last thirty years. The scope of the liberal arts field with relation to the business
environment, while discussed in length for over a century, has just recently established itself as a
larger debate than otherwise thought. The theory behind the liberal arts philosophy is the betterment

Over the years, schools of business education had not seen the need to incorporate liberal arts into
their programs. In the past, employment rates for liberal arts majors had been generally low, which
caused the school of business to turn away from the major and not want anything to do with it.
According to a study conducted at Georgetown University, liberal arts majors were found to have
one of the top unemployment rates at 8.4% (Dumbauld, 2016). They have not provided great job
opportunities and have left their students paying off large amounts of debt with not a lot of money

industry leaders had been able to adapt to the changing times and supplied mostly the communities'
needs. Entrepreneurship produces financial gain and keeps the economy afloat, which gives rise to
the importance of innovation in entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs are innovators of the economy. The
importance of innovation in entrepreneurship is another key value for the longevity of a business.
