3. *Mast Head
The masthead is the title of the magazine. The title of this magazine is NME. The title stands out because ‘NME’ is wrote in capital
letters and it is in bold. The colour of the mast head is red, red is a bright colour which makes the masthead stand out more on the
grey background.
*Main Feature Story
The main feature story is a quote by ‘MIA’ that says “lady gaga sounds more like me than I f**king do”. The feature story stands
out because it has a pull quote within it. The feature story defines the audience of the magazine by saying the F word on the front
cover which would point out to people that this magazine isn't suitable for children as it has swearing in it. The feature story would
persuade the reader to read the magazine as she mentions another artist ‘lady gaga’ who is a well known singer. Mia
relates herself to gaga which would interest the audience because they would be curious what she sounds like and why she
relates herself to Lady Gaga .The artists name ‘MIA’ stands out as it is similar to the masthead. It has capital letters in bold and it is
in bright red writing so her name stands out to the reader.
*Skyline
The skyline is normally above the masthead but in NME it is next to the masthead. The skyline would attract the reader because it says
the magazine is limited edition and it is the 8th one out, out of 10.
*Main Image
The main image is MIA as she is the main feature story. Mia is looking directly at the audience, which draws them in because of the
eye contact that she is making. She also has a cigarette in her mouth which tells the audience this magazine isn't appropriate for kids
as she has a cig in her mouth which could be seen as advertising smoking. She looks like she is leaning against something and her
arm is supporting her which gives the impression she is relaxing whilst having a cig, this could give her a stereotypical tag of a
‘bad girl’ as she is smoking and she is looking at the audience like she isn't bothered.
*Feature story
The feature story of this magazine is about the ‘state of music today’ and it has a lists of artists. It gives a list of different artists so if
the reader likes any of the artists, they would be influenced to buy the magazine and see what the article says about them.
*Barcode
The barcode is always at the bottom of a magazine, the barcode tells the reader the price of the magazine.
5. *Page number
On a contents page the page number is always next to a article to tell the reader what page to find the article that they want to
read. The page numbers that are next to the pictures stand out because they are in red and they are in a large font size. There is a
small column with other feature stories. The page numbers stand out on the small column because they are bold and black.
