Megan Hughes proposes a photography project to document restaurants in Manchester City Centre through landscape images. She plans to take a minimum of 50 photos using her Canon EOS 1100D camera, adjusting settings like shutter speed, f-stop, and ISO. Her goals are to skillfully capture well-focused, interesting images showing the variety of cuisines available through techniques like rule of thirds and depth of field. She cites photographers Paul Winch-Furness, Francesco Tonelli, and Mark Carr as inspirations for photographing different restaurant styles and tastes in unique ways. Megan will use JPEG format and techniques like rule of thirds, depth of field, and varied shutter speeds to convey different moods and aspects through her

Theme: Architectural Exploration of Manchester City
Centre - Landscape
Predicted final outcome
For this project I am going to take a minimum of 50 landscape images of
buildings (in specific, restaurants) in Manchester City Centre. This will show
the types of cuisine they offer in Manchester. I will use my camera skills to
adjust the shutter speed, f-stop and ISO settings and apply techniques such
as rule of thirds and depth of field to create well-focused, interesting and
fresh images.
Reasons for selection of theme (including inspiration from the work of others)
I decided I wanted the theme of my landscape images to be photographs
of restaurants because I thought it was something different and unique to
capture. The images will show the types of cuisine within the town centre
and prove there are a large variety of different style restaurants. I will
actually enjoy the comparison of the higher end restaurants that are posh
and modern between the ones of a lower standard that aren’t that
popular.
3 other photographers that do work like this are: Paul Winch-Furness,
Francesco Tonelli and Mark Carr.
Each of these photographers shares the interest of photographing the ins
and outs of multiple different restaurants with different styles, cuisine and
taste. Their work is fascinating to me and it is unique compared to other
photographers work.
The photo imaging equipment and medium that will be used and why
The camera I will be using to photograph my project is the Canon Eos 1100D
which is great for taking high quality pictures. I am undecided whether I will
use a tripod yet until I see the conditions of the locations where I will be
taking the images in the City Centre – it might be useful to ensure they are
sturdy and focused. The digital photographs I capture will be in JPEG format
which is one of the most common to use.
2. Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual
message
E.g. framing, styles, shutter speeds, etc
I will most likely use the rule of thirds and the depth of field techniques within
my images to make them look more professional. I will adjust the shutter
speed so it changes the amount of light that gets into the lens when
capturing the photograph to set different moods for each image I take. The
angle I shoot the pictures of the restaurants from will change almost every
time to convey a different visual aspect.
Manchester City
Centre
Manchester City Centre is a very busy, historic area.
There are many restaurants, churches, pubs, clubs
and shops around within the streets, in which most of
are well known and a common place to visit.
